You have to either be a serious Yelper or know someone from the mountain to hit this place up. Ok, I know hole in the wall places, but this is totally off the beaten path. I don't think this is a place you just stumble into. We were looking for it and had a hard time finding it. A co-worker of mine who grew up in Arrowhead recommended this place and my wife and I are very thankful!
We both ordered the bacon cheeseburgers and two shakes to go. We would have eaten there, but we were on our way home and decided our little Jordan needed her nap in the car, so we ordered out. Starting with the shakes: Yes, a bit pricey for a shake, but it was really good. Thick with a great taste. They were awesome; if that was it, I would have been very satisfied.
The burgers? Well, we didn't get to start eating them until we were down at the bottom of the hill, but man....they were some of THE best hamburgers we've ever eaten. Some thing in the sauce was just great! Not your typical burger with Thousand Island. They were big, greasy, and well flavored. The bacon wasn't wimpy either! It was thick and added a great flavor to the rest of the burger.
All in all, we'd go back in a heart beat. Looking forward to going to Arrowhead again soon!
Awesome burgers and fries. I've eaten here a couple of times and it never disappoints. Come here during non peak hours, otherwise you'll be waiting for a while. My favorite is the mushroom swiss, just simply delicious and juicy. You can't go wrong with any of there burgers. This places has a nice 50's feel diner to it. It's a shame they don't have a joint like this down in the city.
It's been quite a while since I worked here, but I hear things are still kickin' like they used to! The food here - mostly burger-style fare - has always been above average.
I'd recommend the "Low Rider", or whatever crazy name they're calling the Ortega swiss burger nowadays. Golly, that's a fine burger! I've yet to find another one quite like it.
Last I checked, the shakes and malts here and made the old-fashioned way: usually vanilla ice cream with the appropriate ingredient(s) mixed in. This makes for a mighty fine shake!
Sometimes I am amazed by some of the places that have yet to have a review. This place has been around since 1946 and there is a good reason. I found myself in Cedar Glen after several years of absence. I used to stay at a cabin around the corner before it burned down, so I am well acquainted with their shakes and malts. I am giving the 5 star rating for the shakes themselves. They are a little pricey at $3.75, but pay the extra 25 cents for the extra thick shake, which is more than enough for two people. Black cherry is my personal favorite. I don't think that I have ever really had any of the food here, except some french fries, but the name of the game is big messy burgers and sandwiches. If you are in Arrowhead or Cedar Glen, don't miss out.
This is a charming little 50's type diner that I've been eating at for years. I love the decor and great music. It's a great place to come to in the summer. I especially love the fries/onion rings combo and chocolate shakes. One of my friends used to work here years ago and I think of him when I stop in. I like bringing my friends from down the hill here, they love it.
If you like killer malts and shakes then look no further. I moved up to the mountains about 2 years ago and I can say that there is not a better shake/malt on or off the mountain. Their burgers are nothing to laugh at either. I noticed one of the other reviewers recommended the Low Rider burger and I wholeheartedly agree. It's loaded with ortega chilies and swiss cheese and topped with a jalapeno. For my money it's the best burger on the mountain. Their fries are really fresh as well. The decor is styled after a 50's diner and is simple but works well for what this place is. Check it out.
