5 reviews for CDF Therapeutic Bodywork
So, I went to see Craig last week. The massage was nice, as always, and I got to say hello to his pet fish, "Red Fish."
After leaving, I realized I was in SUCH a better mood. I got kinda freaked out! I was saying "Hi!" or smiling at people who I don't know, and if you're in Boston, you know that ain't normal. I was feeling all peaceful, and didn't even grumble at the parents and new undergrads who were clogging the Green Line... WTF!?
Craig must have found all my secret hateful zones and massaged away all the tension because I'm normally a much less-plesant person ;)

I've been a client with Craig for many years, and his massages have always been exactly what I… Read more »
Yay! Now that I know Yelp probably won't delete my review (they don't tell their users or businesses, but users who only have one review will have their postings ELIMINATED without warning or explanations) I am happy to post a 5 star review for Craig Faucher and everyone that works for him at CDF Therapeutic Bodywork.
The most important things about Craig that set him apart are the fact that he is extremely results-oriented in his approach to treating you, and he is passionate about doing a good job for his clients. During the [full hour - not 50 minute] session Craig will hunt down the cause of problems you may not even realize your body has, and take aim at them with as many techniques and tools as it takes to make an improvement. What he charges is extremely reasonable compared with other therapists in the area, showing he is as committed to his profession and his clients as he is to operating a sustainable and successful business.
BTW, if you call Craig and end up with one of his other therapists, don't worry; you are in good hands. I have been treated by others at CDF besides Craig, and I feel that Craig makes very good and careful choices about who he allows to work on his clients. So skip a dinner out every once in a while and go see Craig, and then tell everyone you know how different it is from going to a spa. It's not throwing $$ away on "pampering." It's a worthwhile investment.
My husband and I went to see Craig after a two year hiatus from getting a massage and he quickly reminded us why it should be a regular thing. Craig is clearly skilled and was able to employ some serious (and I mean SERIOUS) deep tissue massage to me and a not-so-deep massage to my other half. Now one week later, both of us have been raving about the benefits....a less sore back and a more flexible neck. On top of a fantastic massage, Craig is a nice guy who we felt completely comfortable with.
Craigs methodology includes one of the most important things about muscular therapy and massage, which so few therapists do. Asking questions. He was able to figure out that I was having displaced pain in my shoulders, and worked areas that I didn't think would even help some upper back pain.
A few hours later and the pain had subsided, after he worked out knots in my shoulders and back using various techniques. The space in which he works is comfortable and relaxing, and he's very easy to get a hold of to schedule appointments.
Too bad Yelp doesn't allow 5+ stars.
If you've got enough disposable income to eat out and buy cool clothes, you can afford a massage and you'll be glad you did. I get a lot of the shoulder tension of your typical office slave and typically have some tightness from working out as well, so I look forward to a solid massage treatment.
I've had massages at several of the conspicuous spas on Newbury St. and Craig (the boss) is much better. To me the differentiator is that he demonstrates a superior understanding of the body. Also, he uses a much more extensive set of techniques than the average professional, including active stretching.
Definitely a fan and have already scheduled my next appointment!
Specialties
CDF Bodywork specializes in advanced techniques to help the body heal from pain and chronic tension. We pinpoint the discomfort AND the underlying dysfunction using postural, movement, and hands-on assessments.
Treatments in our toolbox include deep tissue massage, neuromuscular and structural therapy, cross fiber frictioning, active stretching, and sports massage.
Many of our clients are referred from doctors, physical therapists, athletic trainers, and chiropractors. We enjoy working closely with them to help the clients heal faster or improve their sports performance.
Clients will often be asked to participate in their healing through stretching, icing, and light exercise.
Under the name Craig Faucher Massage Therapy we offer more general but equally satisfying massage services such as relaxation, hot stone massage, and pregnancy massage.
History
Established in 2003
Founder Craig Faucher began offering massage therapy in 2003 upon graduation from the Muscular Therapy Institute, now Cortiva, in Watertown. Craig continued to study Orthopedic or Clinical massage techniques while building his practice and combined these studies with direction from chiropractors, doctors, and physical therapists.
He adopted the name CDF Therapeutic Bodywork in 2006 to reflect the clinical direction of his work, and has since added other therapists to round out services from Swedish Massage to Reflexology.
"CDF Therapeutic Bodywork" and "Craig Faucher Massage Therapy" are still used interchangeably. Up to four therapists are on staff depending on the day, but Craig continues to make all the bookings and perform the injury assessments.
In May 2009 CDF Bodywork/Craig Faucher left the "Bodyworkers of Boston" collective on Tremont Street to join with Nicole Ricci and "Saldare Body Therapy" at a new location on Clarendon Street.
Meet the Business Owner: Craig F.
Hi, this is Craig D Faucher of CDF Bodywork. The company as it stands today employs several great therapists, but here's my bio:
I left an earlier career as a business journalist to have a more meaningful connection with people after eight years of over-the-phone interviews and CEO book reviews. Now with a business of my own I love the feeling of ownership behind every decision and those years of writing came in handy.
The massage training really spawned an interest in human anatomy that I didn't know was there. I was fascinated the way everything was made to work together and what happened when it didn't.
Nothing clears the head better than a general deep tissue or Swedish massage and I still love doing them, but evaluating a specific problem and then creating a treatment plan is what gets me into work and continuing to research.
Other background...I grew up in Maine, studied Poly Sci in PA, and fish whenever possible.
