I love the Cayucos Candy Counter! Just a cute, small town candy shop!

My boyfriend and I always stop here for some taffy and ice cream when we visit Cambria :)

I don't care if this isn't the best candy shop in the whole wide world, it's Cayucos, a cool beach town to just hang out in. I found their English toffee to do the trick on my sweet tooth, and I love getting excited about candy.

    "Yay! I'm a fan"
Nothing wrong with this place, that's for sure. Problem is, I am really trying to "watch my diet". But, I did have a piece of dark chocolate covered carmel with sea salt, and dark chocolate covered sea foam. See the trend here? They say dark chocolate is good for your blood pressure....

Fun candy stop.  Excellent customer service.  And honey lavender gelato!!  Definitely worth a stop.  We make sure we stop here every time we're in town.

Ok, so if I were a Cayucos local and grew up there I'm sure I'd have some cute little story of how this place makes rainbows appear and makes the unicorns in my dreams come to life. However, this place is just like any old candy shop with less choices and more expensive prices. Granted, they are a specialty shop in quite a small beach town and their prices would be expected to be a little higher.

If you're in Cayucos to get candy, there are cheaper places to get it but with not as good of a selection. Candy Counter has an array of choices and exceptional customer service with a small town mom & pop shop type of feel (well, because it is a mom & pop shop).

Come here to visit some old friends (if you're a local) or if you want to support the small businesses. However, go somewhere else if you just want a cheap sugar fix (perhaps, Albertsons in Morro Bay).

Cayucos Candy Counter's longtime owner has moved on, but the new owners seem to be doing a great job carrying on everything she started; check out the line-up:

    - Ice Cream (including exclusive flavors like "Cayucos Candy Crunch"
    - Gelato Classico
    - Jelly Belly
    - Taffies & Dewar's Chews
    - A case of truffles & chocolate-coated treats...Oreos, haystacks, etc...
...and also assorted hard candies, holiday treats, little gift items--all kinds of stuff, cool & otherwise!

If I were to make a recommendation, it would be that milkshakes be added to the offerings.  On the other hand, though, why would I ever need anything more than gelato?

Definitely worth a stop if you're in Cayucos--and a welcome respite in between all the damn antique stores!

Great caramels at really sweet deal. You can buy per piece at 50 cents each or $4.00 per pound. The counter girls will totally figure out which way is cheaper for your purchase.

The caramels are HEAvenly....especially the nougat filled ones.

They also have an ice cream bar in the back. Haven't tried theat yet though....

Don't ever go here or take your kids here! The staff is unfriendly and rude. One of my kids asked them a question about the ice cream flavors and the lady mumbled something under her breath instead of answering him. Other than the crappy service, the candy selection is not great (barely more than you can get in a gas station, and their ice cream is not very good either. I was surprised of the good reviews for this place. MY ADVICE: GET AN ICE CREAM BAR AT THE GROCERY STORE AND GET MORE BANG FOR YOUR BUCK!

When the Candy Counter used to be part of the weigh station building it was the place to go after report cards were given out at Cayucos School, at least in my family. Depending on our grades we were allowed to pick out a certain amount of candy or an ice cream as a whoohooo!! This usually only took me about half an hour... candy and ice cream available and i need to pick one - AHHHH!! Also, the owners back then were very family oriented and always treated everyone in the town like part of that family - catching up the local gossip, etc.

Now that the CC has moved to a the "built up" section of the "main strip" it's gone down on my taste list. It's very sunny in that area and the candy is always near the window so sometimes it gets warm and soft. It just doesn't have the same like-a-bility that did years and years ago.

Best little candy counter with a world of Jelly belly's paired with delicious ice cream, chocolates, truffles oh my oh my.

just visited the new location after 20 years of frequenting the old establishment.  Much larger and easier to navigate although a bit hard to find as I thought it had closed down.  I was very excited to see that it was still open and alive.  Now the place has new owners which I met and were very nice.

My GF and I enjoyed an array of chocolate truffles at the end of the day and they were pretty good. Although the Espresso one did not have espresso but only a bean on top. Very misleading.

Good place, good people and lots of sweets for that sweet tooth.

Candy is pretty pricey, but I imagine its because of the touristy location. Its a cute little shop, and the staff is not too helpful, well at least not the oldy moldy behind the chocolate counter. Some things have prices, others do not so when I asked how much the giant peanut butter cup cost, she was rather miffed and responded by saying "we weigh everything" yes thanks but that wasn't the question.
$22 later, I had a pretty good giant peanut butter cup, a handful of ok taffy, wonderful delicious caramel pieces and a couple of turtle chocolate caramels. Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory is better.

Very cute little shop with friendly service!

We tried the Cayucos Special Chocolate Ice Cream and it was to die for... I'm not a very big ice cream fan unless of course it is Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia but this chocolate ice cream was amazing.  Just the right amount of sweetness with some sort of nuts and chews in it and a hint of tiny little chocolate mint chips... my honey still talks about it.
Can't wait to go back and have another scoop.

Excellent peanut butter cup gelato with a wide variety of tasty sugary treats.  The gelato is ultra smooth and creamy and the service was very friendly and generous with the scoops! Take your tasty treat and grab one of the tables out front in the sun.

Cute little place with candy counter and ice cream counter.  Although it didn't appear they made a lot of the items fresh there, it was still worth the stop to get some snacks.

My boyfriend needed a cup of coffee and we saw "COFFEE" on the sign of this place.  While he was focused with one goal (well two - with a bathroom request as well) in mind, I let my eyes wander to the jelly beans and chocolates and spotted (GASP!) Pop Rocks!  So many flavors to choose from!  But at $1.50 a pack I settled on the watermelon and brought myself back to childhood.

I always stop by here for a cone of Cayucos Candy Crunch ice cream when I'm in town. It's always fun to look around at all the goodies you can get. It can be a little pricey, but everything in Cayucos is. The gigantic peanut butter cup was SO yummy! Service is always okay. Not too good, but definitely not bad.

5 stars alone for the Cayucos Candy Crunch ice cream.  Chocolate ice cream with gooey fudge and caramel, and toffee-covered almonds - heaven!  Giant peanut butter cups are pretty awesome as well.

Mammoth amounts of candy, lots of ice cream, and they have a few sorbets with no milk.  I would sure appreciate more lactose free choices.  They stay open till 9 during the summer which is nice for a small bayside town that rolls up the sidewalks pretty early in the evening.

they've got Dewar's Chews from bakersfield (which are great) and they get their ice cream from places like Santa Barbara and Oregon. oregon?! santa barbara?! i have no idea, but the ice cream is pretty good. my personal favorite is the Cayucos Special or whatever. they get it mixed at Doc Burnstein's or however you spell it. it's right next to Hoppe's Bistro, too.
