It's true, if you are one of those people who likes little doggie accessories and such (or know one of those people and need gifts for them) then this place does in face give you a cause for paws. yuck yuck yuck.
They have a large selection of fun dog related items of all sorts and the people are very friendly and helpful.

These people are the best. They really love animals. I have seen them lovingly pay attention to every dog that comes in. They even took some pics of my guy for the store wall.
They are very friendly and helpful. The always suggest the best things for the pet.
I find the selection great, I know I can go in there and get everything I want, and I feel great that I'm supporting a small business and not PetSmart.
Not bad. They have a cute selection of toys that we can't really find elsewhere...but everything else seems overpriced. And the space is small as well.
The owners are nice enough, but I kept bumping into things every time I turned around, there is just too much crammed into a small space.
I hate to be a negative nelly but I am just not impressed with this shop. I found it outrageously priced. I often order from the wholesaler that they order much of their doggy clothing from and Cause to Paws' mark-up is outrageous. But that is their choice and I know Coolidge Corner rent is high so really that is the least of my complaints.
What bothered me most was the little dogs that reside there. They were NASTY to my little pup who is only four-months-old and was in my arms. They growled and lunged at him. And the owner said to me "oh she doesn't like dogs under a year and a half old" (about one dog in particular). At the same time she picked up her dog, and it lunged out of her arms and came within milimeters of biting my puppies nose. WTF!?
I'm sorry, I know it's their store but I think it's in appropriate to give a dog free reign that might hurt a puppy. That is just screwed up.
Also, the owner started giving Daemon treats without asking me. I know the gesture was sweet, but she really should have asked. He has some stomach issues that we have had to sort out over many weeks and I would not have been happy if they started up all over again because she wantonly decided to feed him.
They were really nice women and they did have some nice products but my experience just wasn't very good and I won't be back.

Cause to Paws has a large selection of dog (and some cat) goodies, but are very overpriced. The great thing about it though, is that the owners are the most helpful salespeople, which makes the experience worthwhile. It's their knowledge and helpfulness that makes shopping here much better than any other pet store. It's one of those neighborhood stores that knows their clients personally.

I stopped in on Saturday, which turned out to be their 2nd anniversary party.
There were several people there, obviously close to the two owners of the place, who were all extremely friendly. The owners are *very* friendly and really seem to just enjoy having customers around and meeting their dogs.
Quite a bit of dog clothing and toy selection, but it's pretty pricey. Especially when I received a PetsEdge magazine which showed all the items I eyed there for less than half of the on sale price.
If you're just looking for toys and treats for your dog, I'd go elsewhere. If you're looking to have a nice shopping experience or you're crazy into dog clothing, you should stop by. Leave anyone disturbed by dogs in clothing at home.

They have the largest selection of dog clothes I've ever seen. Winter coats, slickers, T-shirts, Sox jerseys, etc are packed into this place in all sizes and colors just for Fido. Now your dog can be high as high fashion as you are.

The owners are fabulous and they have the greatest selection of clothes and toys. Our dogs love going in here. They also will gladly order things for you if you need it in a different size. Be sure to check it out.

I have to say that this store - Cause to Paws - has got to have the largest and most unique selection of dog clothing and toys I have seen - what a find - I love coming to check out what's new - and I can always find great gifts for my friends who have dogs - AND Cats. The owners make it fun to visit and they are always helpful........... and not pushy. If they don't have something their often offer to order it or tell you where you might be able to get it - that's customer service.
Another reason to go to Coolidge Corner
nice shop, outrageously pricey, as you can imagine based on their beacon street location. one of the sisters was running the shop yesterday when i stopped in to find a first wedding anniversary gift for my friends who also just bought a house. what could i give them that would celebrate both achievements? a dog poncho and a george bush biscuit! they really love their beagle, i'm sure this will go over big.
the store is a bit cluttered but they really do have a great selection of dog clothing and toys, and a cool confection counter filled with designer dog cookies! they've actually had to put a sign on the case saying "these are for your DOGS" because they look so tasty.
so the dog clothes are super expensive, which maybe wouldn't bother a dog person, but it bothered me. my friends live in CT and i really wanted to get them a red sox dog jersey but it cost $41!!! the poncho was a good compromise, 50% off and pink and adorable. my friends have boots for their dog too, they are sooo weird.
at the register i saw these fantastic biscuits in the shape of gw bush with a sticker of him looking particularly retarded. across it it said "chomp chomp...and he's gone!" that is something my republican bf will just love. heh.

this store is so cute! the women in the store are so nice and helpful. their dogs are adorable and greet each customer. they have a good selection of stuff you need for your doggy or kitty (bowls, leashes, shampoo) and the fun stuff that you're really there for like the desserts, rhinestone collars, bows, and dog clothes (lots of different sizes too). none of the prices seemed that unreasonable- like really, it's not like your puppy needs a frilly dress in the first place, so you shouldn't go in expecting to not spend some money. and the harness i bought there was actually more expensive at petco!
don't forget to bring your own pet. i didn't bring my pumpkin the last time, and they asked me so many questions about him, and genuinely wanted to meet him!

This store is sooo delightful! Browsing in there is always a completely relaxing experience, the owner always says hi and makes sure to ask whether you need help or not, but otherwise you get to look at all the goodies without feeling pressured to buy something. The two little dogs that spend their day in there are almost always wearing some cute outfit and are happiest when other dogs stop in to play with them. The owner was very helpful and patient when it came to helping me choose the best harness for my dog. Now I can't wait for baseball season to start to give my shar pei mix a chance to wear some of their Sox gear!

the prices at this place and others like it have nothing to do with location, it's just the nature of the beast. i mean come on, it's a dog "boutique." people will pay that kind of money for outfits, collars/leashes, toys, etc because it makes them feel like they're better than the people who shop at petsmart and that a higher price tag means a better product. oh well, i'm over that - if you're looking for the lowest prices on pretty much anything for your pet, check out drs. foster and smith online.
so now that i've told you i pretty much loathe the clientele in places like this, i can move on to all the good stuff! the two women that run the place are absolutely wonderful and clearly love their jobs. hell, i wish i had their jobs! they have a couple of bichons, one who's very sweet and the other who is sometimes banished behind the cash register when lots of people invading his "house" gets a bit much.
i've been in here twice, out of curiosity and necessity. the first time i went in was on halloween a couple years ago when i lived around the corner in brighton. my dog moxie was only a few months old at the time and i hadn't planned on dressing her up until a friend of mine invited us over for some horror movie watching and insisted i bring her along. i showed up to a VERY crowded cause to paws. of course i had no idea they were having a costume contest that night, so the place was packed with dogs and their owners, a photographer, etc. they had laid out refreshments for the customers - both with fur and without. even though i wasn't part of the contest they insisted i help myself and the photographer was very interested in taking photos of moxie, but not in a way that scared her. he was super nice and gave me his card afterwards so that i could see the pictures when they got posted.
i found a bee costume, the only one left, and they let me take it out of the package to try it on her. it fit perfectly and since it was already halloween everything was on sale so i got it for under ten bucks! she wore the costume the rest of the night and as we were leaving the owner whispered to me to stick around, they wanted to give her an honorable mention! they made up some certificates and gave her a little goodie bag of home baked cookies and such. very cute.
i came here a second time when i learned the hard way that spending the extra money on a good harness *does* make a difference. thankfully no puppies or humans were hurt in that lesson but i rushed right out to cause to paws knowing they carried the line of puppia harnesses and i wanted to try them on her as opposed to ordering blindly off the internet. when we walked in they recognized moxie and i immediately, and even remembered every little thing i had told them at the halloween party, even though it was really crowded and hectic that night. after i picked out the right harness, we were the only ones in the store and the ladies spent at least another hour giving moxie treats to "test" and playing dress up with her. moxie couldn't be happier about all the attention. in the end i felt guilty for not buying something else [totally my own guilt trip however] and bought a silly coat for way too much money that i later donated to an auction for pug rescue, so at least it eventually went to a good cause.
now that i live out on the south shore this place isn't exactly convenient but i highly recommend stopping in with your dog if you live in the area, you won't be disappointed and the owners will treat you like gold!
