Review from Ninette C.
Seattle, WA
My friend took me here during my visit because I wanted seafood and this was the first restaurant he went to when he moved here.
This restaurant is the perfect size. It's not obnoxiously small where there's a huge wait out the door, but it's not so large, you feel like its a cafeteria. There is also an outdoor deck which was covered tent-style on the one outside wall and heated. The problem was that we sat between two heaters and it was really warm! Just our luck.
The menu is small but I still wanted everything. We settled on:
Appetizer: Tuna tartare
My entree: Seafood stew/cioppino
His entree: Lobster alfredo
We also each had wine, but I can't remember what.
The tuna tartare was alright and nothing to write home about. Both entrees were very good. My friend said he wasn't crazy excited about his pasta, but liked it. I thought it was nice that it was a little bit lighter of a sauce. My seafood stew exceeded my expectations. I am often hesitant to order this in restaurants because I feel like its full of odds and ends, but this stew had nice mussels, clams, fish, oysters, shrimp, fish and other yummy things. The broth was very comforting and the serving huge. I felt very satisfied.
I thought the service here was fine, but my friend was a little miffed that our waiter never told us the specials (we heard another waiter talking about therm). I think if they improved this and offered a fresh sheet, it could really elevate this restaurant. For the time being, Catch is a good place for good food, a nice atmosphere and reasonable prices! -

DINNER DATE: 02.04.12 @ 5:45 PM
On a cold nippy night in San Francisco (which could possibly be almost year round) and you are finding yourself craving a hot bowl of liquid comfort; but you are not really feeling ramen or pho......
FOOD:
Let me tell you--Catch's SEAFOOD STEW $22 will warm them cold bones and fill thy belly. http://www.yelp.com/bi...
*This ciopinno in tomato broth is loaded, I mean, loaded with mussels, clams, shrimp, scallops and fresh fish. The menu says it includes crab meat but I think I was too busy to notice since worse than a starving alley cat I licked this bowl clean. But unlike other cioppino that I had, this stew was not fishy but I remember the fish pieces being melt in my mouth.
It might be pricey at $22 but believe me, this bowl was huge! It came with 2 cheesey toasts but I gave them to my man, Instead I drunk the complimentary warm bread which was so good they could have been Acme or Acme's sister. I have been very good at not eating bread at restaurants but there are certain situations where you just have to welcome carbs at your dinner table like your long-lost friend. Paired with warm bread soaking up the broth doused in Tabasco (I did this on my own), every spicy bite was like heaven!
My man wanted the beef ribs but I told him that if a seafood restaurant, order seafood. He listened and ordered the FETTUCINE WITH MAINE LOBSTER MEAT IN GARLIC CREAM SAUCE $ 23.00. He truly enjoyed his dish and liked the chunks of lobster meat in his pasta. http://www.yelp.com/bi...
APPETIZER: http://www.yelp.com/bi...
My man ordered the FRIED MIX OF THE TIGER PRAWNS, CALAMARI, ROCK COD AND GREEN BEANS WITH TARTAR SAUCE 11.50
*A big platter of fried greasy seafood. Aside from the tiger prawns which was crispy battered in cornmeal I believe and were the only ones that were not greasy, I did not like this plate at all.
DRINK: http://www.yelp.com/bi...
The POMEGRANATE MARGARITA $11 but so worth it since it was made with Patron Silver was like nectar and gave me the nice buzz that gave me a nice healthy appetite for dinner.
DESSERT: http://www.yelp.com/bi...
BANANA SPLIT $7.50 is ever my man's favorite. A good choice since it was sweet way to end a sweet dinner.
AMBIANCE/DECOR: http://www.yelp.com/bi...
Catch is spacious but cozy. It looks like it was decorated by Pottery Barn next door. Brick walls, high ceilings, oil lamps on every table and beautiful colorful contemporary art work. There are two sections--the enclosed patio and the main dining room that are separated by glass which gives a sense of continuity between rooms.
We were seated by the glass and metal gas fireplace with faux wood in the center of the patio. It was indeed very warm and cozy. This would be a nice spot to drink your cosmo or one of the signature drinks. http://www.yelp.com/bi...
The long bar is also attractive as well as the dimmed dining area.
VERDICT:
A cozy classy casual place in the Castro to have a seafood dinner and enjoy a round of drinks. A nice place for romantic date nights or dinner with your friends, even family dinners. Service was very friendly and very attentive. A server was constantly filling our water glasses.
CHECK: $88 before tip
Thanks to Groupon, our final tab was only $64 including 20% tip. A great deal!
ADDICTIVE FACTOR: 5 Catch's Seafood Stew is freaking unforgettable! I want another bowl, pronto!
GOOD TO KNOW:
*Difficult parking in the Castro but possible.
*1000 points on Opentable are available at certain times. -

Just not very good. Service was pushy and kept trying to upsell us.
Food was pretty bland and unimaginative. Couldn't really taste the fish much, which is the point.
Oysters weren't great either, and the mignonette was pretty sad.
Wouldn't recommend it. There are better places for fish in the city. -
Review from Jason B.
Stew on this.
No need to choose one fish over another. The outstanding seafood stew has them all. Clams. Shrimp. Scallops. Crab. Fish of the day. Tomato broth. Do not miss.
Dungeness crab cakes were not as epic but good. Really liked the unique Italian tomato salsa on top.
Side of grilled asparagus comes dry with a lemon aioli for dipping. Perfect.
Decor included lots of art I wanted to steal and refreshing blue tones throughout. Clean, modern and welcoming. Service was just as nice.
Fourth star sealed with the price. Some of these dishes can be found for close to thirty elsewhere. Here they are closer to twenty.
Plenty of quantity. No sacrifice in quality. Catch is quite the catch.1 Previous Review: Show all »

So I really wanted to go to Frances- I've heard great things, they serve Acme bread and it has a Michelin star; unfortunately, reservations were not available so I was left to my own devices of finding a good restaurant in the city for a 7pm dinner. Of course there are many amazing eats in the city so I wasn't looking for long. I narrowed my choices down and decided to go with Catch. I definitely am happy with my choice as were my friends.
Strong 4 stars for dinner in the city. Make your reservations on Open Table, its 1000 points! Parking is not horrific and right now, Tuesday special is 50% off on bottles of wine. That's right 50% off and one more thing...they serve Cakebread Chardonay, that means we paid a whopping $29 for our bottle, split 3 ways, well I'm no mathematician but that's an epic deal for Cakebread. This made up for the crowded tables and my chair kept getting bumped by other guests and servers. However, I must say that our server was quite good.
Moving onto the eats:
Appetizers:
House Bread and Butter: amazingly fresh bread from local SF bakery, not Acme, but very good quality, great outside crunch and soft inside
Friend Jalea Mix: tiger prawns, calamari, rock cod, green beans, fennel, tartar sauce
Entree:
Catch Seafood Stew: tomato broth, mussels, clams, shrimp, scallops, crab, fresh fish served with garlic, cheesy pesto-ish bread
Two of us ordered the Catch Stew and my other friend ordered the special of butterfish on a bed of creamy risotto which I had a bite of- flavorful, lots of butter and bliss.
I nearly died after this meal because I was so full of food and wine bliss. -

we were very happy with our experience at Catch. the food was great, portions generous, service attentive enough. Fish stew was a huge bowl of yummy--i have enough for breakfast this morning. the mass of fried fish appetizer hit the spot, i liked that there was also lemon slices and green beans in the mix. a couple of the fish fillet entrees were spot on--and again very generous. we will most def return. i understand the chef is Jeremiah Guerra, but can't find anything about him in the chef data base or online anywhere.

During our engagement weekend, my Fiance took me to Catch, which I had been dying to try out, based on several colleagues reviews. It lived up to every expectation and more, I would say its one of my favorite restaurants.
We called and made reservations, which I would recommend, as our table was ready as soon as we walked in. I would plan for about an additional 10 minutes or so to find parking, as its a little difficult to find parking on a Saturday night. As soon as we walked in I knew it would be a great experience, the host greeted us and took us to our seats right away. The restaurant's ambiance was great, low lights, romantic feeling. The tables are a little close together so it can be a bit noisy.
To start the bread they bring is freshly baked and amazing, I could have eaten it all night. I would recommend the following items, all of which we had:
Soup: lobster bisque, crab, crème fraiche $12.00 =SO TASTY
ENTREE'S:
Beer-battered fish and chips with cole slaw $16.00 = AMAZING... everyone on Yelp recommended them and they were great. They give you so much you can almost not finish it.
Cabernet Braised Beef Short Rib - fettuccine pasta, white corn, spinach, black truffle oil cream sauce $24.00 = HANDS DOWN THE BEST SHORT RIBS I HAVE HAD!!!! THEY WERE PERFECTLY COOKED AND MELTED IN MY MOUTH. THE PAIRING OF FETTUCCINE AND CORN WAS HEAVENLY!!!! A MUST TRY ITEM!!!!
I couldn't stop talking about this place, so a coworker went there this past weekend and she thanked me for recommending it and said it was just as good as I tried to explain. I would highly recommend eating at Catch!!! We will be back soon! -
Review from George A.
I came her for some dinner with some friends and thought it was pretty solid.
It was a pretty nice night when we came so we sat out on the patio (it was a little chilly) so we were sitting right near a heat lamp. Our waiter had no issues turning it off when it got too hot...and on again when it got too cold...and off again when it got too hot, so I have t give him kudos for that.
As far as food goes, three of us decided to split a few appetizers as a meal. Although nothing necessarily stood out as "OMG this is the best _fill in the blank_ I've ever tasted!" everything we ordered was very good.
So what did we order? The grilled artichoke w/a lemon dipping sauce. It was pretty standard, but I LOVE artichokes so standard is good. The tuna tar-tare. Surprisingly, I thought this was very good. Even though I love tuna tar-tare I say "surprisingly" because when it was served it almost looked a little "over-prepared (if that makes any sense)," but it tasted fresh and I really liked the bread that was served with it (they serve bread & butter upon request at Catch, and I suggest it, because the bread is yummy). Mussels. I LOVE mussels and when they're prepared properly (and these were) it's hard NOT to like them! The twist they use at Catch is serving them in a chorizo broth (also excellent w/bread!), which added a nice little kick. We also ordered these duck dumplings that I though were very good.
We ordered a couple desserts as well, which I thought were both FANTASTIC! The apple crisp in particular was very good! While I'm not usually a huge creme brule fan , my dining companions were so we ordered it, and I really like it, so go figure.
The service and atmosphere at Catch are nice. I didn't think the prices were too bad (we also ordered a couple bottles of wine) given the quality of the food served. I wouldn't rush back here necessarily, but I certainly wouldn't be opposed to it ;) -

Again if u want to throw a party from 5-on to 50 like I did I say call Catch and have them make your party the biggest ever .. I came here for brunch when I had a huge craving for seafood and I was thoroughly satisfied. I got the mussels with spicy chorizo harissa sauce with fries. I usually choose things based on spiciness and if it's somewhat healthy but on this day I was not concerned about the healthy part. I'm not a big fan of mussels but the combination of these mussels with the spicy chorizo helped me enjoy the flavors.
Service was awesome! We thought we would be discriminated against for being the youngest people in the restaurant but they proved us wrong & earned a good tip.
Try this place next time you want a fancy plate of seafood. -

This place was great! Lets start with GREAT service! Atmophere is great, ask to sit on the patio, great people watching and view of market street.
The artichoke hearts appetizer was delicious! I had the polenta meal which was FANTASTIC, im not even a vegetarian and it was delicious. We also go the special which was the swordfish, cooked perfectly, with just the perfect garnishes!
I will def be back when I get to san fransicso again! -

Had a wonderful dinner here on Christmas Eve. I started with the tuna tartare which was something you don't see very often and was quite interesting, raw chopped tuna mixed with mint and oil, to be spread on toast. Not something you want every time, for sure, but delightful.
The main course was the extraordinary part - fettucine with lobster meat. I was expecting to have a minimal amount of lobster meat, and was delightfully surprised that it was *loaded* with lobster. That plus a lovely sauce made for a wonderful dish, not to mention that the volume was so great that I brought home half and got to enjoy it a second time. Highly recommended.
My companion, a light eater, had a salad and the crab cake appetizer. The crab cakes weren't completely successful, but good.
Dessert was a really fabulous rhubarb, strawberry, and apple cobbler with vanilla gelato - definitely recommended.
I don't know if it's normal but on a small stage suspended above the dining floor, a pianist spent the evening playing Christmas tunes, which was a nice addition. -

I have to say that the fava bean and hearts of palm risotto is beyond amazing! I went here with a local friend on Saturday night. The crowd was mixed and fun. Parking is a bit of a pain...but once we were in, I loved the ambiance.
Our waiter was a bit slow...but overall, I can't wait to go again!
I had the prawns with the risotto and my friend had the halibut...both were AMAZING! Duck pot stickers for an appetizer. The drinks were strong and I loved the vibe.
Can't wait to try this place again! -

Catch is a nice restaurant located in the heart of the Castro. It's a fun place to grab a drink and feel like you're eating at an upscale restaurant. Although it's not overly expensive the prices creep up on you, but the food is well worth it.
Be sure to grab a drink from their extensive list, whether it's wine or booze you're after. The Room outside the main restaurant but still within an enclosed plastic overhang is nice. you sit close to a fire and watch the people walk by. It's a neat a beautiful space. Check it out for yourself. -

Let me start by saying parking is so difficult in this neighborhood. Now about the food, from the appetizer to the entrees, everything was on the salty side. The seafood was only mediocre, which in itself is disappointment considering they specialize in seafood and there are so many great seafood restaurants in the city around the same price range. The waitress was nice and friendly but not much when I got to meet the owner. He obviously isn't caring of his customers or his staff for that matter. Needless to say we won't be back.

Birthday dinner stop #3: Catch.
Came here on a Saturday night to end my three-day birthday dinner rendezvous with my favorite bitchez and hoez. Coming to Catch was definitely the best way to end my birthday celebration!
So I'm going to admit: as much as I purport myself to be a foodie, there are some things that I have not yet tried-- one of them being oysters. I used to work at a tourist seafood restaurant in Santa Cruz and, trust me, it ain't pretty seeing unfortunate-looking tourists from Modesto chomp down on a dozen raw, slimy oysters... per person. But the mood was great and I was feeling adventurous, and the person whom I was with suggested that we try one of each oyster that was on the menu. That was perhaps THE best culinary decision I've ever made because each one was absolutely delicious. They were very fresh and not as fishy tasting as I had expected. I'm no oyster connoisseur and the oysters I had may not have been the best ones out there, but Catch has gotten me hooked and I'm ready for more!
For the main course, I had the halibut, which was also amazing. It was also not too fishy tasting and was very moist and not too dry or firm. The veggies and pancetta that came with it were superb and complemented the halibut very well.
I'm becoming more and more surprised by the amount of good restaurants there are in the Castro. Catch is definitely the star of the Castro by far! -

Had been wanting to check this place out for a while and finally made it here...and decided to come back for my birthday dinner it was that good! Each time we've been here we were seated right away and had our choice of sitting inside or out...we like it outside so we can be by the fire and people watch. The service was helpful without being pushy and the food was really delicious! The fish was tender and tasty, definitely not "fishy" and my hubby got non-fish dishes and said they were well prepared. Also I highly recommend the artichoke appetizer to start. Yum!

On the positives this was a relaxing place for Sunday brunch and the menu offers some interesting additions to the usual brunch fare of eggs with various accompaniments.
I had the mussels with chorizo, harissa in spicy coconut broth with french fries a dish I'd been salivating at the thought of all week. It was tasty, though I still don't understand why people insist on serving chorizo as bits of sausage meat instead of a in small slices, salami style as it should be. The broth was rich, quite thick but not as spicy as I expected but here's the thing that irked me, the fries were dumped on the top of the mussels. This meant it was very difficult to eat the fries without them falling into the sauce and becoming soggy. Also the dish was served just *just* warm enough. My own preference, food should be hot.
A friend had fish and chips which she said was delicious though as a Brit I always boycott this dish in the US because the chips are fries and the fish is always two or three goujons instead of a proper battered fillet.
My wife ate the soft shelled crab sandwich. Feedback for this was that it was bland tasting mainly of just "fried stuff".
The waiter happily brought us fresh bread to mop up the mussel sauce and I have to say the bread was delicious. I'm not a huge fan of sourdough and struggle to find real French bread, but this baguette was close to what you'd pick up in a Parisian boulangerie. Light fluffy bread with a a crunch crisp crust. The kind of bread that will be stale by lunchtime but is delicious fresh. That's the way the French roll.
Service was attentive and friendly.
I wont be racing back simply because there's so many other places to try in SF but I would think for an evening meal here, especially on a warm night, this place would come into its own. -

Also the food is absolutely delicious and not too pricy considering the quality and that it is seafood.
Ambiance is also great. -

I have been to catch several times now, and have been nothing less than pleased every time! There are several key reasons for this effect:
~Firstly, the ambience that Catch has established is one of "comfortable sophistication." The welcoming front atrium offers a nice balance to the more dimly lit, but sleek interior. Combine that with decent music, a lovely bar, and an open-face kitchen, and you have a recipe for an accessible, yet high-end restaurant environment.
~In addition, the food (at least the dishes I have eaten) is quite delectable, and fairly priced for what you get. I always like when food is cheaper, but this is worth it. You get a great mix of subtle flavors and spices, that blend well with the food they adorn.
~Lastly, the service has always been great, the bathrooms nice and clean, and not once have I been rushed from the table.
~Taking all of these things into account, I happily give Catch 5 stars and two thumbs up! I'm certain this place will become a usual spot for me! So, what are you waiting for? Go check this place out! It's a CATCH!
~Cheers -

The service was friendly, attentive and a little flirty. I love that!
I took my mom to a casual lunch in the Castro because I know the neighborhood is doggy friendly and I had a groupon to burn.
As starters, she loved her asparagus soup and I my artichokes.
I had breakfast for lunch and she had a soft-shell crab sandwich. She really didn't care for the crab but that was more of a personal things than a restaurant issue.
Overall it was a great lunch, very casual and good service - I will be back if in the gay-berhood again. -

This review is for the bar only.
For being in the middle of the Pink Party, Catch was busy, yet chill. The bartenders kept their cool and quickly doled out my two glasses of Prosecco at 9 dollars a glass (basically on par with average prices) as we hung around the small area in front of the bar.
Truthfully I'd say that'd be the only downfall of the bar area, is that once busy, because of the partition that separates it from the dining area, it''s quite hard to move from the front door to the restroom and vice versa. The small seating area on the walkup was fabulous and their service impressed me so much I've actually wanted to come back and try their dining.
4 stars. -

I love Catch and Catch loves me. A chic, urbane sidewalk seafood bistro close to Castro and Market, ground zero here in Oz. And a window table provides people watching that is unequaled for diversity, disgustingness and dumbfoundedness. Before I mention the nude guys proliferating so rapidly in the Castro who all gather at the new mini park at Market and Castro where the trolley's pick up and let off passengers, let's talk about this very good seafood restaurant. It's also a see and be seen place and when you throw in really good food and service in a charming, tasteful setting, you've got some good things happening.
Catch feels like two separate places with the windows from floor to ceiling in the sidewalk dining room facing Market and Castro, and a warm, inviting room and bar inside. It's not garish and doesn't have old nets and bottles dangling from the ceiling just collecting dust and spiders. Not a single life saver or taxidermied sea creature threatens the chill decor and serene nature of this gracious joint. My last three visits I've had their addictive fish and chips, battered, ultra fresh premium white fish, flaky, tender, clean smelling and just plain scrumptious. Served with a pile of not to thin, crisp, fresh cut fries and a great tartar sauce, this is almost a perfect meal. I've often had various salads they offer and my favorite is the grilled Salmon which is a generous steak grilled to perfection atop some fine greens and hard boiled egg plus other tasty goodies.
The service has always been very good, except for the deaf dwarf with the crooked smile and grabby right hand that kept trying to pickpocket me. Full bar, nice wine list, and such good food really make me a happy camper. I highly recommend Catch. -

Oysters good.
Fish and chips - way too heavy on the batter and grease
Paella - more like risotto
I made the mistake of ordering the Cucumber and Cilantro cocktail. It was like drinking a coriander bush, obviously I drank it anyway
Way too pricey for that standard of food. -

Made reservations here for Christmas Eve dinner with my family and Bryan and had an amazing time. The restaurant was pretty packed and we were able to get a table pretty quickly with the reservations...which is always a bonus in my book. The food was delicious...everyone really enjoyed what they ordered. For appetizers we got the grilled artichokes, fries with truffle oil and the fried jalea mix which had tiger prawns, calamari and rock cod. I seriously could have gotten 2-3 more of these plates and just have this for dinner and be completely satisfied. For entrees, Bryan and my sister got the special fish of the day with risotto. My mom got the grilled prawns with risotto, brother got the talapia, dad got the mix grill of fish and I got the seafood stew. All of it...was delicious! We ended with two desserts, the creme brulee and the cobbler, with the cobbler being the better choice. I definitely recommend this place for a great date or a family meal. Have to try the lobster with fettuccine the next time I go!

[W] First off, if you're hungry than this is the place to be. Catch gives a healthy portion of pretty much everything that fills your appetite! Normally I'm against going to neighborhoods that have hard to find parking spots but we were totally lucky and found a spot smack dab in front of the restaurant. It's right on Market St. so if you're not too lucky like we were today, you might be circling for a little while.
We had the TUNA TARTARE, SMOKED SALMON PIZZA, and the MUSSELS WITH FRIES. I have to say that everything was quite good but the entrees were kind of missing one thing. The TARTARE [http://www.yelp.com/bi...] was definitely delicious and would order that again the next time we come. It was very meaty and again had a healthy serving that me and Mona didn't have to fight over.
For the main entrees, the SMOKED SALMON PIZZA [http://www.yelp.com/bi...] had enough salmon that I felt like I just got a whole bag from Safeway. The only thing that I didn't really enjoy about the pizza was the pita bread it was on. It was a little on the dry side when I usually prefer it to soak up the sauces a little bit.
As for Mona's MUSSELS AND FRIES [http://www.yelp.com/bi...], the sauce for the dish really didn't hit the spot. It was still good but it felt like a 2nd place dish to me. I think that dish can still use a little improvement in the sauce area but the yumminess area still got 5 stars.
The prices here are very fair compared to the amount and quality of food that you're getting so try this place out! -

During my most recent visit to SF a few weeks ago, I was graciously treated to lunch here at Catch by my friends Mark and Ruben. (Thank You Guys!!) It was a Friday during Lent so we came with the intent of feasting on seafood. :)
It was pretty empty on a Friday at noon, but soon filled up with an older clientele when we left by about 2pm-ish. So I agree with a previous Yelper who opined that this may not be hip for anyone in their mid -30's or younger, i.e. for a date, etc. Then again, maybe the vibe is different at night time?
I, however, had a FABULOUS time with my friends and enjoyed the dark wooden masculine patio decor http://www.yelp.com/bi.... I'd definitely return again because I enjoyed the food and service.
THE ORDER:
- Cucumber cooler ($14.00) 3.5 stars
- Fried Onions ($3.50) 5 stars
- Seafood Salad ($16.00) 5 stars
- Seafood Stew ($19.00) 5 stars
- Grilled Salmon ($16.75) no rating
THE YUMMY:
CUCUMBER COOLOER http://www.yelp.com/bi... with the mint leaves and vodka over ice looked a lot like a mojito. Not as strong as I had expected but it was very yummy and refreshing. Be sure to order easy on the ice to really enjoy the alcohol in this drink, especially at the spendy price of $14 each. My friends really enjoyed their drinks and highly recommend it. I'm on the cheapy side, lol, and would have preferred more alchy for the price which is why I rated it a 3.5 stars.
FRIED ONIONS' http://www.yelp.com/bi... batter were so light, buttery and flavorful that they barely were even attached to the actual onions inside. My friend Ruben was spot on in remarking how much he enjoyed that he could bite into it and just enjoy THAT portion in his mouth without the remainder of the onions in his hand coming apart from IT'S batter and into his initial mouthful. (Does that make sense?) Truly, we were all quite impressed with this "air spun" like concoction of onion fries. Kudos to Mark for ordering this and sharing with us.
SEAFOOD SALAD http://www.yelp.com/bi... with the prawns, scallops, salmon and avocado with boiled eggs was something I spied our neighbors having, so my eyes convinced my stomach to order this! My taste buds were thankfully not disappointed. Wow!! It was super filling, as it was bigger than any of us had anticipated, and the sweet chili dressing was delicious. The prawns were on the med/large side and were dry charbroiled for flavor. I really enjoyed the scallops the most as they were moist and tender. Salmon was tasty even when I ate them as left overs several nights afterwords.
SEAFOOD STEW http://www.yelp.com/bi... http://www.yelp.com/bi... was the overall winner. It's HUGE and I'm glad I split it with my friend Ruben. We were quite impressed with the split portions which I suspect was due to the generosity of our waiter, Alberto. The split soup portion literally could have stood alone as an entire meal!! It's incredibly filling. The red broth was so zesty and savory with TONS of clams and other shellfish which I fail to remember due to my overzealous enjoyment of this stew at the time ;p. Both Ruben and I really enjoyed the generously sized toasted seasoned bread that accompanied our stews. YES, DEFINITELY GET THIS AT CATCH!! I'd definitely order this every time for sure should I return here.
GRILLED SALMON with ASPARAGUS RISOTTO IN TRUFFLE VINAIGRETTE http://www.yelp.com/bi... was my friend Mark's. I do remember tasting his dish but don't remember it enough to give it a star rating. I do know that he enjoyed his entree very much. His grilled salmon was very similar to my grilled salmon in my SEAFOOD SALAD.
THE OVERALL:
It sure helps to have friends in the know :) and my friends definitely picked a winner in Catch since they've been here before. We really enjoyed our luncheon and especially the company we had in each other. Service, ambiance, food - everything was awesome at Catch.
Huge KUDOS to our waiter Alberto for his generosity in our portions, excellent service and most especially for allowing me to charge my iphone conspicuously and safely somewhere in the restaurant while we dined.
SF - you literally kill me with the sheer amount of good restaurants and seafood you all have at incredibly reasonable prices. :)
Thank you Mark and Ruben for treating me and for coming out to spend the afternoon with me in the Castro. I had a fabulous time with you both! Catch was definitely one of my dining favorites in SF.Listed in: San Francisco Adventures, My Hot List, SF - Castro, Castro!!

Dined there Friday, August 26 2011 at 7:30 pm.
Lets start with the good. The host was nice and we were seated quickly. Server was there promptly and was really friendly.
We ordered the pork belly special and the mussels as starters. Pork belly very good. Mussels awful. Tough, overcooked and small. Sauce was ok.
Entrees were prawns with risotto and scallops with risotto. Scallops were small and a bit rubbery and risotto had an "artificial" flavor to it. Sort if like artificial saffron. Shrimp was AWFUL. It was way under cooked - still grey and mushy. Risotto served with it was good but not enough to make up for horrible shrimp.
We told the server that the shrimp were terrible and he took them away without question. Soon after the host (owner?) came by and asked us more about the problem and told us that he had talked to the chef and was taking the entree off our bill.
They were really pleasant about the whole thing, but only one item out if four was good. At about $20 an entree, you need to be better and consistent, there are a lot of similarly priced places in the neighborhood that are.
I've been there for drinks a number of times and they used to have really good bartenders, so I might stop there before going to eat somewhere else. -

Wow! What great seafood!! This is definitely my new favorite seafood restaurant. The layout was so great and the service was fantastic. I ordered the fettuccini with crab and I about died. The server was always attentive and came at respective times. Great job you guys!!

I love this place! A favorite restaurant of the bf and mine whenever we get a chance to go to the city. We've had the catch seafood stew and the the New York steak. The stew is a huge bowl of seafood deliciousness - generous portions/mix of mussels, clams, shrimp, scallops, crab, and fish in a rich tomato broth. Seriously - really good if you're seafood aficionado. This entree will set you back $22.
The stew is great and all, but in all honestly, the bf and I have dreams about the NY steak. OMG so good!! Huge slab of meat, perfectly marinated and well cooked (medium for me!) with green beans, cauliflower and French fries on the side. The green beans and cauliflower are sort of drenched in oil, but oh well. Still vegetables, right? And the French fries are really good too - the shoestring potato type, just the right amount of saltiness and crispiness. This piece of heaven on a plate will set you back $29.
The service has been wonderful every time we've been here. And we're usually seated in the front section of the restaurant near the fireplace, which is nice and romantic.
The only reason I hesitate to give this place 5 stars is the price. As you can tell, it's pretty expensive. The only way that the bf and I could afford such delicious steaks in SF is because the bf has a Passport discount card which is good for one free entree (with the purchase of another entree - so, buy one get one free). We're milking this discount card as much as possible :)
I'm not sure we'd come quite as often if we had to pay full price for both entrees (meaning, 2 orders of the steak, haha), but man, this place is really great if you're looking for a nice sit down place with good quality and well made food. Last time they even had a live pianist playing, which was very cool and hip! :) -

I have to qualify this review by saying I'm not a fan of most seafood. Luckily Catch has tons of non-fishy options to make us land meat eaters happy.
I decided to share a bunch of starters and order a salad. The crab cakes were finished with greens and deliciously sweet cherry tomatoes. The grilled artichoke was simply prepared and perfectly great with lemon aioli.
The truffle fries are THE BEST FRENCH FRIES I'VE EVER EATEN. Crispy, thin fries are molded into a mound with little bits of parmigiano reggiano, binding the whole thing together. They're a revelation by themselves , but combine them with truffle aioli and they've single-handedly prompted me to get back on Yelp and start writing reviews again.
The only thing that stopping me from giving this a 5 star review is the salad, in hindsight it was a mistake to order it at all. I was full after sharing the starters, and the salad was basically a couple pieces of butter lettuce mixed with apple slices and a lemon vinaigrette. It was underwhelming. -

We had mussels for appetizers and they weren't very fresh.
Then I had their grilled fish with udon in miso broth. Thought that the fish was under cooked and that their soup was just soy sauce, too salty.
My friend had their seafood stew. The stew was lacking in flavor - it was blend.
Not worth the money nor time. -

I really enjoyed my dinner at Catch. From the cilantro cucumber drink to...
The mussels which is a MUST! The broth that it's in is to-die-for!
The special short ribs creamy garlic fettucine. Those words make my mouth water.
"mehhh okay's" are:
The lobster/crab bisque was good, but nothing special.
Smoked salmon flatbread LOOKS better than it is. I would not recommend it. -

Catch to me seemed like the kind of place to check out when you feel like being a little more spendy and want some great seafood.
Unfortunately, it really does not live up to its name.
The decor is nice and the staff were polite and attentive to our needs, but they didn't deliver on the food.
We ordered a mixed fried seafood to share to start along with some duck confit egg rolls. The seafood was really disappointing - what should have been crispy and golden brown on the outside and nice and juicy on the inside was just soggy all the way through.
Either they aren't using fresh seafood ingredients, or they need to get a better person in the kitchen preparing it. I've had better seafood at places who's name would not suggest it was their forte.
The duck confit rolls weren't too bad so it was not a total wash.
My main course was halibut on a barley ragout. The fish was fairly unexceptional, it certainly was not juicy and cooked to perfection. While it was seasoned OK and the barley ragout was relatively tasty, I was not wowed.
If I was getting a similar level of food at a restaurant one step down in pricing I would probably be happy, but I really expected higher quality for the money.
I admit to feeling just a little bit harsh giving Catch 2 stars, but my reasoning is that I feel that a 3 star rating would suggest that I would recommend you check the place out.
Honestly, I have a hard time recommending it when Bisou is right across the road and similarly priced.
If you truly can't stop yourself from checking the place out, go on a Tuesday evening - they have half price bottles of wine. -

It's Sunday.
With that in mind comes brunch.
It's a meal that I look forward to on the weekend, coming in a close second to late night eats.
Catch delivers with its solid seafood selection (craving for fish n chips, crab cakes, shrimp salad? they have it), casual chic atmosphere (fireplace in their patio) and good service. You really can't go wrong with the tuna tartare -- fresh pieces tossed with chopped red onion, caperberries and sesame oil. Mmm. Pile it on a crunchy pepper crostini for a great start to your meal.
The bf knows I love my mussels and pomme frites. Their version comes in a big bowl of spicy coconut broth sauteed with harissa and chorizo. If you're worried about the spiciness level of this dish, don't fret, it's tolerable. The flavor profile works and allows the freshness of the mussels to come through. The skinny fries were well salted and super crunchy. Their soft shell crab sammy was good as well, albeit a small portion.
While service was good, I do have to mention that our dishes took awhile to come out. Judging by the popularity of this place, that's understandable. I'll be sure to return a second time so I could check out their yummy looking cocktails on the menu, as well as those fine looking Castro men. Who wants to "catch" brunch with me next time? ;)Listed in: Simply Brunch, Plenty of Fish in the Sea!

Love this place! Some of the best seafood ive had in the city. Everything is always fresh and they have some amazing nightly specials. Ive had the most consistently good waiters here over any restaurant in the city. Check them out on Tuesdays, half off bottles of wine!
