My 50th birthday celebraton (January 8th 2012) was a four-day excursion of exhaustion at the Disneyland Resort (California Grand Resort, separate review). Never having experienced Downtown Disney before, I had low-level expectations, but when my son suggested Catal based upon his rushed previous experience, I said "sure" -- because I figured I'd be having my 50th in a franchise restaurant or fighting lines at some Disneyland faux high-end restaurant.

Gosh, what a surprise, First off -- the kids (7 mos and 3 yrs olds)  fell asleep for the duration of dinner (Yay!)... Second, the waitress started out with a totally L.A. wine suggestion "it's a Cab, Sauv, Pin blend... blah blah blah" (Oh no!) ... but she redeemed herself nicely when we apologized for rolling our eyes at this (and ordered a Spanish Rose... Yum!) and advised us expertly through the menu, and showed her capability of handling assholes (us) as well as being professional in spite of adversity. She was also very knowledgeable about the menu and clearly they train their staff well in their menu offerings.

Really, though. The food is awesome, the prices entirely reasonable and the portions substantial. We ordered the Mezze plato -- a sinful, beautiful plate of beautiful salumi, Spanish Abrogado, chorizo, cheese and olives... seriously, at $28 for a plate meant to serve two people this is substantial, authentic and wonderful. Four of us were very happy with the quality and quantity.

    Our entree orders:

Me: Blackened Veal -- blackened with squid ink! Wow! amazingly rich, moist, succulent... an unexpected interpretation of "blackened". Served atop a perfectly executed polenta.

Son-ray: a pork confit -- I cannot describe this adequately, but suffice it to say, if a pork product could be bacon, roast, crispy skin and pork belly and all other manner of good piggie things, this dish reigns supreme (as pork should, in my opinion).

Husband/Secret Squirrel: Seafood paella w/ lots of fish and a beautiful, immaculately cooked lobster tale. The picture alone speaks only mere whispers of it's taste. Perfection.

Daughter-in-law: the grilled fish of the day - can't remember the fish, but it was served beautifully and she devoured it.  I didn't get a chance to taste it.

No room for dessert, but they were compelling and looked divine.

Really, the atmosphere removes you from the chaos of Disneyland and constant scent of churros and kettle corn, the noise and mayhem. The service was impeccable, no rushing, no loud ambient noise... just blissful peace, nice wine, and a spectacular meal, as well as superb service, even with the L.A. foreshortening of wine grapes. The prices are entirely reasonable considering the quality of the dishes and unique preparations. Coming from the S.F. East Bay's plethora of amazing eateries and fine dining, I can safely say that Catal would hold it's own - and then some -- right here in my turf.

What a lovely experience, Catal -- thanks for a beautiful transition to my next half century!

Came here on a random Saturday night. The wait wasn't too bad for the UVA bar - the downstairs area. they have a short menu and I would recommend the street fries if you're not worried about your diet.  E tuna tartar taco was good as well. Our mushroom flatbread was bland... Thr mussels dish didn't impress either.

Service is not exactly friendly. Weird for the happiest place on earth... I don't think I would come back again if given the choice.

Got up early for a day of magic at Disneyland and California Adventure but decided to have breakfast first cause we were both STARVING. The last time we were at Disney we happened to walk by this place it was one of the only places that was open at 9. The menu looked really good so we went right in.
It was still early so we were seated quickly out on the terrace. I ordered iced tea and my friend just watered. It took forever just to get our drinks. We both ordered the same thing basic eggs, toast, home fries, bacon, sausage, and English muffin.
So here is the one good thing and the only good thing. The food was delivered quickly which is the part that is so confusing because the home fries were so burnt on the outside you would have though they were cooking for hours, they were close to inedible. The bacon was totally over cooked. The eggs were just eggs. I got scrambled and it would be pretty sad to mess that up. My English muffin I'm pretty sure wasn't even toasted!
Don't waste your money and look elsewhere for breakfast.
    Enjoy & Happy Eating.

Taylor took good care of us even though we came in late without a reservation. We sat on the patio overlooking Downtown Disney. The heaters provided plenty of heat, until one went out later in the evening, but the experience was still enjoyable at Catal. It was a Spanish-influenced menu, which had tapas. I loved the goat cheese peppers. It was like a high-end jalapeno popper. Good variety of textures and flavors that popped. I had the Brussels sprout and duck sausage pasta. It was really fresh and tasty. I loved how peppery it was. You could tell the sausage was made in-house. Overall, I liked Catal, but the menu wasn't 100 percent my style. I think I'll be back if we're in the mood for paella or tapas. Thanks to Taylor for fantastic recommendations on dishes!

I'm heartbroken to give just a 'Meh' review of this place but here goes...

When checking in you have the option to either dine at Catal or the Uva Bar as both offered different menus. Reading from the Yelp reviews we decided to go with Catal as we are fond of Mediterranean cuisine.

Unfortunately, at the time, they only offered a prix fixe menu for the holidays. So we gave it a whirl anyway.

I don't know if I missed something, but nothing seemed Mediterranean on the selection.

What I ordered: First course, Little neck clams. Entree selection, Slow-roasted Angus prime rib. Dessert selection, Gingerbread pudding.

When the first course arrived it was cold. It had four pieces of clam on top of whole wheat linguine. I'm sorry to say that this was probably one of the most flavorless dishes I've had in memory. Next up, the prime rib was cooked to perfection and overall had a good flavor. The mash was awesome. What made me jump up out of my seat was the Gingerbread pudding. The wow factor hit me yum!

Now I am giving this place the benefit of the doubt and will consider dining here again in the future but never if it's prix fixe at fifty bucks a head!

Good wine selection and service considering that they were pretty busy translated to a well-deserved star.

I asked my wife about her experience? SMH...

As other reviewers have said, it's nice to have a getaway that's a relaxing, somewhat upscale place to escape and dine while at Disneyland.  My friend kept raving about the salad she had at Catal last time so we visited.  I was definitely impressed by the food.  She had her manchego salad and I got the butternut squash flatbread with applewood bacon.  Delicious and portions big enough to split!  We actually came back a couple days later and I got the mushroom flatbread- it was ok, not as good.
The place gets 3 stars though because the service was pretty terrible.  We couldn't get any attention from wait staff for drink refills or cutlery even though it was brunch, staff were standing around, and the place was not busy.  Even if your food is good, your service needs to be too.  I'd recommend the Cajun place over Catal.

After a long and exhausting day of park hopping between Disneyland and California Adventure, we decided to take a break and have a nice sit-down dinner in Downtown Disney - this was, of course, after trying (and failing) to get a table at both the Blue Bayou and the Trattoria in California Adventure.  It was a particularly crowded day and all the restaurants within the park were completely booked. But it was meant to be, because the meal we had here at Catal was just what the doctor ordered.

We started out with some much needed drinks at the bar (for Disneyland is unfortunately a dry park) before heading to our lovely table on the balcony overlooking the vibrant strip of Downtown Disney.

We had the mussels, short ribs, and the homemade pasta with duck sausage. All were totally excellent.  The pasta itself, I believe, was the star of the dish, remarkably outshining the duck sausage.

Personally, I found the service to be wonderfully friendly, as one would expect from anything Disney related. The whole dining experience was very positive and really recharged our batteries for our remaining 4 hours we had at the parks.

One of the best places in Downtown Disney, although I can't say I wasn't biased after several days of the usual Disneyland fast-food. Our hotel concierge recommended this place and made reservations for us.

We left the kids with my parents and enjoyed a nice dinner out with another couple. The food was surprisingly really good! I had the paella and the others had steaks, which for a non-steakhouse were pretty darn good! Our server really knew the menu and provided great suggestions. The desserts were also generously sized for sharing and very tasty.

The only hiccup was our to-go boxes were switched around and we didn't realize the switch until we were back to our hotel.

After two hours in the park and nothing open for breakfast, I venutred out to downtown Disney with two kids under 4, grandma in tow and a hungry husband in search of something edible.  We had a second floor table and nice servers who didn't seem to mind the little ones.  I expected a "decent" breakfast but instead got something very different!  Everything was amazing!  The coffee, hot cocoa, the eggs, bacon, sausage (amazing), pancakes, muffins, and the potatoes (which I normally skip but ate them all here).  I live in LA and don't remember a better breakfast.  Can't wait to do lunch or dinner here!

Alright. I mean, you're in downtown Disney, expect Disney prices. $9 shooter but it was 2-3 shots worth. The chocolate cake shooter was great! Got a little tipsy I admit. Bartender was nice about us sitting down right at closing, answered any questions, great service !

I wanted a snack so I popped in. I ordered mac and cheese.

Someone please tell me how it is even possible to screw up mac and cheese? Seriously. In a place that is right next to Disneyland where there are many children how could they even think of serving such disappointment? I mean I know its not a fancy dish but it could have actually tasted like something.

After I had that tasteless mac and cheese I have never wanted to go back. The service was slow and snobbish almost.

I've had better food out of a box...you know what? My boxed mac and cheese was cheaper.

Had the most AHHHH-mazing and wonderfully delicious ricotta cheese salad here.  I had ordered from the prix fix menu and had the ribeye steak as my main course and choco molten cake and espresso creme brulee as my desserts.  Everything i ordered and tried were all ABSOLUTELY delicious, but it was the homemade buttermilk ricotta cheese salad that stole the gold for me. Let's just say, that the first words that came out of my mouth the next morning were: that salad was damn good.

With a healthy serving of ricotta cheese, the greens consisted of: marinated celery leaves and string beans.  The marinated greens went exceptionally well with the ricotta cheese.  The serving of cheese to greens was a little un proportional,  but i just ended up using some of the delicious cheese on my complimentry bread and i splashed some oo and vineagar just for good measure. It was so so good, i'd use profanity to describe it.  But, in order to keep the integrity of this review, i will resist the temptation.

My rib eye steak was cooked a perfect medium rare. The seasoning was just right and the meat was so tender, my boyfriend who is currently in a sling (broken clavicle) was able to cut his own steak with ease.

I had both the chocolate molten cake and espresso creme brulee (stole my bfs) they were both decent on their own, but perfection when paired together.  The molten cake was just a tad dry, so i ate it with my creme brulee and before i knew it, both desserts were gone.. vanished into not- so- thin air.

This review is for the Uva Bar outside.

This is a new discovery for my boyfriend and I. We had walked by it for years and never stopped in because it's affiliated with Catal Restaurant which we consider pricey. We decided to bite the bullet a few months ago when Trader Sam's was really busy and we didn't feel like going to Hearthstone Lounge at the Grand Californian.

Instead of sitting at a table we chose to sit at the bar because we like watching bartenders make drinks and seeing what other people order. We had noticed another couple next to us ordering a red, white and blue martini multiple times. We asked bartender Justin what it was and he said they were ordering Astro Pop martinis. Okay, we've never had one so we both order it. It tasted exactly like an Astro Pop Popsicle! Not only that but he had made the drinks really strong!

Next round we order a Red Roster which includes Red Bull. This is the type of drink that will knock you on your ass. They don't cheat you on the liquor on this drink either. Since we knew we were getting buzzed pretty fast we decided to order some type of food. Multiple people were getting the fries in a cone so we ordered some. The fries come with ketchup and mayonnaise type dipping sauce. I don't know if I was hungry or pretty gone by that time but they tasted like the best fries I have ever had!

We have been back multiple times and always go out of our way to come here if Justin is working since we think he makes the best drinks. We always get the fries so I don't know how the other food on the menu is. This place doesn't come cheap though, each drink will set you back about $11.

For New Year's Eve, my boyfriend decided to take me out to Downtown Disney. We ate at Catal for dinner and had an amazing time. We opted to sit at the Uva Bar and not the restaurant because that's where all the excitement was. Downtown Disney was packed that night.

Our waiter was very friendly and sweet. We shared appetizers and ordered the Belize Shrimp...Crostini, the steamed Prince Edward Island mussels, Uva street fries and the house pinot grigio white wine. YUM! I especially loved the mussels. It was served in the most fantastic white wine broth with chorizo and pearl pasta. To die for! The Uva Street fries were ingenious. I thought the shrimp crostini was just okay. I believe crostini is supposed to be crunchy, but the bread was soggy by the time it got to us. Their house pinot grigio is a California wine and I thought it was delicious. Complemented our food very well.

We would come here again. It was so much fun!... With all the music, the lights and the people. It was so foggy that night that we felt like we were in a totally different place.

I met a good friend here for a late breakfast on a Tuesday morning, and we practically had the place to ourselves.

We had a table inside on the second floor, a cozy spot where we could have some girl talk. There is also seating on the outdoor patio, which overlooks Downtown Disney below.

I ordered the Pancakes with Bacon. There were 2 large, fluffy pancakes topped with berries and a dusting of powdered sugar. The pancakes were okay; what really stood out were the raspberries - so fresh and sweet! Surprisingly, I didn't care for the bacon, it just wasn't crispy enough. :(
    http://www.yelp.com/bi...

I took a bite from my friend's plate of Eggs Benedict and it was pretty good! The Hollandaise sauce could've been better though, there was hardly any flavor to it.

Despite the nearly empty restaurant, the servers didn't come back to fill our water glasses often enough....oh well, at least they were friendly.

I can't remember how much everything was because my friend treated me...but essentially it's more expensive than your average meal because you're dining on Disney property.

Overall, I wasn't particularly impressed but Catal is a decent choice for a sit-down breakfast in Downtown Disney.

I had reservation for 5 people and everything went according to plan.

This is a nice restaurant within Downtown Disney and definitely a must try if you have time to spare for a nice dinner.

We got the charcuterie platte appetizer and it was fun and sociable. The presentation on the plate was easy for everyone to try a bit of everything. They had a good selection of cheese, dry cured meats, and olives.

My favorite was the deconstructed s'more that was available. it was AMAZING. The homemade marshmallow was so soft and fluffy and not overly sweet. They had Valrhona Crunchy Chocolate Peals that basically gave the texure of a crunch at every bite. The homemade graham cracker spinoff was nicely done as well. There was an added element of the ice cream, which basically melted in your mouth.

The prices are reasonable for a DownTown Disney resort.  The food is excellent, but if you've spent a long day in the park and are hungry, then this isn't the place for you as the portions are on the smaller side.  The bar is good and I really like their custom drinks.  The Purple Haze is amazing:  but be careful!  You can't really taste the alcohol.

A very nice place to wine and dine.

I've been there for lunch and dinner, and dinner is by far the best time to go for the best menu selection.  It's also the only time the second floor is open which, in my opinion, makes for a very classy dining experience.  Of the few times I've been there, I've never been disappointed by my food selections.

It's best to make reservations, as this place gets packed at night just like any other restaurant at Disneyland.

I may be a bit biased due to the fact that tapas are my favorite type of food and any place that has decent tapas on their menu is at the very least a decent establishment. Hence, Catal is unquestionably the best place to eat at in Downtown Disney.  The tapas here are good enough where I might actually stop by this place just to eat and not because I was already at Disneyland wondering where to eat later in the day.

Which tapas should you try? For just one person, 3 dishes should be more than filling. My rule of thumb is 2 tapas dishes for every person in your party plus one extra dish. You should have plenty of food.  I recommend the ranch olives (even if you're not a fan of olives, you should try it), the ahi tuna tartare avocado roll, steamed mussels, croquettes, and lamb sausage.  The rest on the menu is pretty good as well, but I prefer those that I just mentioned.

If you're not a bit tapas person, you can enjoy the pastas & paellas here.  The paella comes with lobster and chorizo mixed with saffron, peppers, and paprika aioli. Yum! For pastas, I'd recommend the homemade duck sausage. Prefer surf or turf dishes?  The pig confit or prime rib here is well cooked. The steaks are good nothing special.  My favorite non-tapa dish here is the lemon grass baseball cut swordfish.  The citrus flavored went perfectly with the thicker tougher texture of the swordfish.  Sadly, Disneyland has a habit of removing great items off their menu.  See my review on Steakhouse 55 to understand what I'm talking about.

If you're thinking of stopping by, you should come when they have a special pre-fixe wine pairing promotion.  For example, next week this upcoming week there's a four course meal with G Duboeuf Beaujolais. Hmm, makes me tempted to come dine here..

Oh and for all of you that like to get a little alcohol in your system before hitting the theme parks, mixed drinks here are well made as well.  And if you get a drink here, you can get an extra two hours of free Downtown Disney parking for those that do not have a Mickey and Friends theme park parking pass.

My family's food & drinks were both wonderful, though our friends did not enjoy their prime rib (even after sending it back for being cold). The caesar salad was very fresh & flavorful (all diners agreed) and my mushroom soup (sans the thyme) was the best I've ever had. The children's "pot pie" was neither a pie nor traditionally seasoned & your child will only enjoy it if they are adventurous (mine is), but the kid's mac-n-cheese is homemade & delicious.

I was a little put off by the fact that we were evacuated for a false fire alarm shortly after getting our drinks & ordering, but the manager did not offer so much as a free round or dessert for our hassle. The other two tables of six to our sides were almost done & simply took it as an opportunity to skip out on their bills, though, so he was probably distracted by those & presumably other losses. However, I think he should've done something for those of us who came back & ran up a hefty bill of our own after waiting in the cold (albeit only about 10 minutes).

We have enjoyed a few other meals at Catal before & will surely eat there again.

Quick review since we only went to Uva bar and didn't eat at Catal at all but we enjoyed our mid-afternoon drink and snack!  The beer selection is decent and they had a few unique beers that I hadn't had before.  We asked the server for recommendations on a flatbread and unfortunately he suggested the most boring of the bunch.  It was tasty but I think I would have liked the others better.

Perfect place to sit back, grab a drink, and people watch though!

The standalone Uva Bar has a great beer selection, which makes me feel weird to say considering it's smack dab in the middle of Downtown Disney. Some craft beers on tap, and even more in bottles.

I was famished after a morning of wedding activities, so I ordered a flatbread with Cotija cheese and roasted butternut squash. It comes with applewood smoked bacon, but I passed on that and it tasted just fine. The price was steep ($14), but it's Disney... so I was expecting that. The server was also nice enough to let me order a half manchego cheese salad, which was arugula dressed with dates and apples in a light vinaigrette. It all tasted fresh and so good. Especially combined with my Alaskan Amber Ale.

I'd recommend this place for a light nosh and good drink over the other restaurants in Downtown Disney if you're not looking for something quick and tasty.

Boyfriend surprised me for a dinner and show for our anniversary...
I've been to some restaurants in DT Disney, but not this one.

He made reservation at 8pm, and he requested the special table at the balcony. So that was the surprised "show" part.... fireworks...
It was very cute, he did plan it well. Thumbs up for my bf.

    Pros:
    - great atmosphere... enjoy the fireworks show (make sure you sit on the balcony though), they place heaters out side, so it was very comfortable.
    - great wine selection
    - ordered duck sausage with pasta - the best grilled Brussels sprouts ever, and very delicious home made pasta. A little bit oily and sausage was a bit salty
    - good service

    Cons:
    - tried bf's chicken paella. It was okay.
    - pricey... but it is down town Disney.

This is the bar and cafe area of Catal restaurant. They serve food and drinks in patio style seatings.

I like this place a lot, it's very casual and the food is reasonable priced, good for afternoon snacks, or late night snacks, of course a few glasses of wine or cocktails too!

Mediterranean cafe food, wide range of cocktails, wine by glasses, many to choose from, so yummy!

One of my favorite places to have a few drinks at downtown Disney! Casual and relaxing!

We had a nice table outside, an attentive waitress, and a fine wine list. The experience went downhill from there. The red wine was cold- not chilled - COLD. The roast chicken was too salty for me to eat. The waitress explained that the chicken had been "brined" and offered a substitute. Neither the waitress nor the the manager seemed to understand that red wine shouldn't be cold. Each assured us that the temperature of the wine refrigerator had been turned up.

I'm very surprised there are so few 5 star reviews...this place is wonderful!!

I have been here a handful of times and it never fails! Every time I go to SoCal I make it a point to go here. I have gone here from just casual dinner to lunch/drinks at the bar to NYE dinner before spending the last new hours of a year at Disneyland! This was also the first and only place where I had deer. DEER? Yes...deer! I was surprised myself but I went for it and so glad I did. I don't know much about deer but I feel like for it to taste good it needs to be done right and it was very tasty here so, I think they got it down. A must try here is also the compressed salad that has dates and apples and just full of yummy-ness! The drinks are also always good and have a good selections of wines.

When it comes to service I have always been pleased. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones that always happens to get good service.

Oh yes...if your lucky enough to land a table on the balcony at night you can see the fireworks from Disneyland! :)

Hmmmm Uva Bar, I apologize now that it is going to be a small review, because to be honest I have never eaten at this restaurant or even at the bar. Most of the time whenever I am going to Disneyland or California Adventure, I usually always park at downtown Disney. Usually I always get a drink here at the bar, because you get 3 hours of free parking, and then with validation it becomes 5 hours!

They do have some really good mixed drinks here, some super fruity, and some really strong. I forgot what I got, but as I said I am very sory for this short review, its not like me yes I know, but there isn't much to say when I haven't really experience it that well!

Uva Bar has amazing drinks, what better way to validate your ticket for a free 5 hour parking pass, and also to start your Disney Adventure than to have a drink right?

Had dinner here this past New Year's eve while visiting Disneyland.  The food was good, I had the veal, my little girl had kids meal steak, and my friend had the pork confit.  My veal was tender and delicious.  The service was good as it should so nothing to rave there.  Ambience was good, nice atmosphere not too formal but not too casual either.  Although a bit pricey in my opinion.  We had the $75 per person four course meal, which does not include wine or cocktail. Overall, it was good

We had afternoon appetizers and wine outside and loved it. Dinner inside upstairs was nice too. I'd ask for the balcony if possible.

My friends and I decided to get some drinks at Uva bar because we had heard they had a cool thing mints shooter.  It was tasty but super strong!  We had great service and the food came out quick.  We ordered some drinks and appetizers to share and we all left pretty stuffed.  We ordered the trio hummus mediterranean dip, the roasted shitake mushroom flatbread, and soria chorizo flatbread.  Maybe it was because I was tipsy, or that I was starving, or maybe the food was just delicious, but it was soo good.

Its a great place to take a break and munch on some food.  It is a bit pricey though.

If your looking for a different spot than the usual Disney flare head upstairs to Catal. This place is right in the middle of Downtown Disney and has a great bar outside called the Uva Bar.

So Catal is a tapas restaurant and they do it right. Everything my group ordered was so flavorful and satisfying. My favorite thing was the lobster and chorizo paella. It even had the authentic crisp cooked rice on the bottom of the pan.

They view from the upstairs deck is fun and it's great to get up and away from the crowd to enjoy a nice dinner.

I have been to other tapas restaurants and they always miss the mark. Catal does it right and has a huge wine selection to go with it. My only gripe is the prices are a little high but hey it's on Disney property and they have to compete...also pay the lease.

This review is only for the cafe part of Catal and nothing else.

When you're hungry and you're looking for somewhere to eat while at Disneyland here's a nice a little spot to stop. First of all they are going to ask you if you'd like to sit in the upstairs patio or the cafe downstairs, now if you'd like to pay $20 and up for an entree that's a little more refined eat upstairs, if you're just looking for a nice bite to eat that's not going to be too expensive eat in the cafe.

We all had one of each of their flatbread pizzas, and I have to say they were all pretty tasty. They were fresh and you could tell it was just made. I loved the touch of grey sea salt on top of the fresh arugula salad on my margherita flatbread.

Other than the food, service was OK. Like I said I would come again if I was in Disneyland and wanted something simple other wise I wasn't too impressed with the place.
