2 reviews for Castle Gwynn
Castle Gwynn is owned by the same guy who hosts the Tennessee Renaissance Festival on his property. During the time of the festival he busses people over for tours of the castle. He has made it his life-long mission to build this castle as authentically as possible, from the same kitchen set up to the narrow winding staircases. He has hand laid much of the brick and invests his money into slowly adding on to his project. Last time I was there they had a large dome built for the top of the castle that was lying on the grounds waiting to be lifted into place.
It's a pretty cool chance to see an "authentic" castle if you can't afford the trip to Europe.
Anyone who has visited friends who live in Williamson County by accesing the newish 840 Interstate system has seen this castle, yes I said castle, towering over the tree line somewhere between Rutherford and Spring Hill and wondered "what in the world is that place?" shortly after exclaiming "Holy ****, is that a....castle?!"
It is a castle, my friend, and it's no real purpose other then making people exclaim that very thing while driving past it either on the way to, on the way back from, or somewhere in Williamson County's more rural areas. The renaissance festival is put on by the same guy that own's this masterpiece of architecture, and yet this freaking CASTLE is not even a part of that festival? For this logic-defying feat I must bump this modern day manor down to 4-stars. Share the wealth, guy!
