Review Highlights
Who knew Andersonville had such cute shops? Not I! I need to head up this way more often, if only to come to places like Cassona.
After brunch Sarah B and I walked around for a bit, and we popped in here to look around. They have lots of great modern but classic furniture (which is what I like) at really inexpensive prices. I immediately found many, many things that I loved... but then my wallet remembered I'm unemployed. (That's *really* starting to crimp my style, yo.)
I actually found some really cool coasters that match some prints I have hanging in my living room so I ended up buying them since they were so inexpensive.
The man working here was SO nice, and fun to talk to. While we browsed and I admired a couch he pointed out some fun features of it (yeah, I'm SO coming back for it when I get a job!), and while he checked me out we talked about traveling. When I said I was German and Irish, he laughed and said I must know how to party. Hehe. He was super fun, and I'll definitely be coming back here when I have paychecks again.
This review is based mainly on the great service I received. I've never actually visited the store; this is an online purchasing story. Here's what happened. Desperately in need of a bed frame, I'd scoured many affordable furniture stores in Chicago only to come up empty. Then, I found one I really liked at an outlet store in Evanston, but the price wasn't right. (I'm not spending thousands of dollars on a queen-sized bed frame that I'm exchanging for a king as soon as my bedroom gets bigger.) Back to my story. On a whim, I searched online and found my bed at Cassona -- and for much less! So, I called and Angel was so helpful with the order and scheduled the delivery within a couple of days. The delivery men arrived on said day promptly and were very professional. The bedframe was beautiful, but after they left, I noticed an imperfection in the staining of the wood. I called Angel and he ordered me a replacement, which was delivered about four weeks later. Based on this great service, I'll be back to Cassona for my next furniture purchase.
Things I love about cassona:
1. Personalized attention.
2. Good deals. Well priced, good value.
3. Interesting designs & mix of furniture.
4. Not your cookie cutter type pottery barn dreadful showroom furniture
5. Home being definitely cozier after a few purchases at cassona, &...
6. Home delivered. They even set up your furniture for you! Wow!
Got a couch and chair here with the fabric I wanted for about 1/3 the price of Crate and Barrel / Room and Board equivalents. Delivery was prompt and as promised.
A minor complaint - when they delivered the couch it baaaaarrrrely fit through our hall and scratched our wall. Their initial call was to tell us that "our delivery driver told you it was a tight fit and you said to go ahead so we shouldn't be responsible." Well, there was a language barrier there, so I'm not sure how that conversation could have occurred. I just hate when, before getting the whole story, a store manager sticks up for their employee at the expense of the customer.
It took a couple of weeks, but at the end of the day the owner from the Evanston store came by to look at the minor damage and it was fixed appropriately at no cost to us, so was just a small deal in an overall smooth transaction.
If I needed something else to furnish my place I would probably check Cassona first and hope for another good deal.
This is a place that I really really like their style of furniture. But there were some issues with out couch that caused the drop in price.
My fiance and I buy a couch. We select the style and fabric really really fast. We already did research online and knew what we wanted. Then we go and put a down payment. We are given a 6-8 week window for our couch.
3 weeks pass (we're on vacation in Oklahoma visiting her family), and we get a call saying that the fabric we chose is from a fabric mill that is closed. So we head back to Cassona right after we get back home. We are informed that the manufacturer did not even start building the wood skeleton to put the fabric over so once we select the new fabric it will be another 6-8 weeks.
Then comes 4th of July week and the furniture maker is closed that entire week, and apparently that does not count as part of the 6-8 week deliverable window.
All in all we get the couch about 12-14 weeks after we ordered it. I do not think I will purchase from them again, unless there is a dirt cheap price.
Cute furniture and different home decoration type of things - better yet, the customer service here is quite awesome - the employees are all very friendly and extremely helpful - no harassment here. You are free to roam around. Items are a bit pricey/standard, but there is a sales/clearance table towards the back, and there are some cute votives as well as bird figurines. One of many stores to check out if you're in the neighborhood.
We've been in Cassona several times since this past summer. Even though the first few times we were just browsing, we were greeted in an extremely friendly manner and made to feel welcome. There were some great art prints that I wanted but just couldn't afford this past summer. Yesterday, I walked in to find the paintings I wanted at a 30-40 percent discount. I bought three. The two gentlemen who work in the store are very personable, will chat with you about a multitude of topics, and be genuinely interested in anything you have to say. I really love shopping and supporting local businesses; I will go back to Cassona and purchase other items as I can afford them ;-)
(fyi-their fashionably classic items even non-sale priced are reasonably priced, but I'm on a budget)
I really have to give props to this place. Our sales guy, Angel, was not only patient and not pushy, he was truly helpful in assisting us in choosing some nice pieces, even dissuading us from several things because he didn't think we should spend that much, etc. The best part? After having already ordered a bed, sofa, and chair from Pottery Barn, we walked out with the same -- plus a rug and two lamps -- for $800 less than we spent at PB for those three items. (Needless to say, I cancelled my PB order and went out for a nice dinner!) Anyway, SUPPORT this local business -- you'll get a better deal, too.
Lots of the standard, practical furniture pieces most people need at least a few of (yeah, I'd love to fill my place with Eames and Nelson, but I've got two college educations to fund) but lots of unique stuff.
If you want something funky and modern but of decent quality, this is a destination store. I fell in love with the chair/bench made from a gathered bundle of vertical wood. Now that you know I'm not a furniture or architecture critic, check out the photo I uploaded - http://www.yelp.com/bi.... This chair was incredibly comfortable and designed like nothing I've ever seen.
Prices are fantastic!
Modern furniture at a cheap price!? Wooza! I love Room and Board but my check book does not. This place is also very much my style with a much better price point. I bought a fantastic black coffee table here that is modern, functional, and looks a lot more expensive than it actually was. I will return when searching for my furniture items.
My new 'Horizon' couch is perfect!
The guy who helped me pick it out was so great when I was shopping in July. He gave me his undivided attention and helped me with the color choices and really knew what I was looking for in a style.
I got a great piece of furniture, exactly the design I wanted, for a GREAT price and I had a wonderful 'In-Store' shopping experience!
Also, Cassona delivers and they delivered my couch early! I was told 6 to 8 weeks is the usual estimated time of arrival, but I got mine in only 4 weeks. The delivery guys were so nice (I live on the 3rd floor and it was around 90 degrees on the delivery date) and they were 30 min. early. No 'all day' delivery appointments like some places. They are on time, efficient and the furniture is worth the price.
Definitely check out Cassona for unique home furnishings worth the price and some great sales people to help you decide.
I've bought an end table that has a glass top and drawers, a cool coffee table that converts into ottomans and a shoe storage rack. The prices are fantastic. The quality is really great considering how reasonable they are. The furniture is stylish and well made. I also have to say that the service is great. I've bought at both the Evanston and Clark St. stores and have always had great experiences. In addition, one piece had a small defect in it. They ordered me a new one and replaced it, no questions asked and no problems.
I really think that this is a great alternative to expensive downtown stores, plus it helps keep money in the neighborhood.
I have bought 2 beautiful furniture pieces from Cassona, as well as a statue named Gorda. I love the furniture in this store. They were delivered very fast and on time. However, I tried to purchase an ottoman and placed the order. I put a deposit down and waited the 6-week estimated time. Then, I was told it would be another month. Then, I was told after that, another month. And so on, until 8 months passed and I finally got my money back because I was tired of waiting. The people are nice there, but the store needs to cut off their suppliers who can't produce. The store worked with me to decrease the cost for the delay and offered free delivery, but enough was enough. I'm bummed because I liked the ottoman. Long story short, I think the furniture is top notch. I wouldn't buy anything that wasn't in stock.
Purchased an ottoman/cocktail table from here and was told 6 weeks for delivery got it in 3! very helpful and friendly sales staff. I will be buying more furniture here in the future.
Fun furniture, great accessories. You will not find repeats of items found here- in other stores. Some very interesting wall hangings hand created by traditional artisans in Mexico. Fantastic colors in bed linens, custom orders. My favorites? Incredible, heavy, but well designed ceramic wall tiles in these funky red/mocha and bit of pumpkin colors with leaf designs. Sounds strange I know, but a fantastic accessory, they had 3 different tiles, at 19.95 each, they were an absolute steal! I WILL be back!!
Gorgeous furniture, v. unusual. Well made, sturdy - really unusual, creative pieces here.
We bought a large furniture item here, and the price and service were great. The price was not the cheapest out there, but the people that work here were so nice and helpful that it was worth the extra money. the cassona in evanston is also good, though I think the selection in andersonville is better.
