My partner dragged me to this place for breakfast one Sunday a couple months back. I didn't want to go, I wanted Cornerstone or Fox and Goose. But we were on bikes, way hungover and Cassidy's is closer to our house.  The food ain't half bad and it is pretty friggin cheap. Now I've only been for breakfast, and I've only sat outside on the patio because the inside is populated by and smells like the elderly, but the awesome thing is that you can smoke. Sometimes they even bring you an ashtray, like the good ol' days. I highly recommend the Belgian Waffle, dark golden brown and crispy. The waitress there is sassy but prompt. They've got bloody marys and mimosas as well! So lately we've been skippin' the midtown crowds and hanging with the blue hairs Sunday mornings.

Overall, Cassidy's ain't a bad joint.  Solid, decent breakfasts and lunches, and the prices are reasonable as well.  It does have more than its fair share of older patrons - pretty typical for a place like this with a senior menu that's cheaper than dirt.

You definitely get what you pay for here. If you order the steak and eggs special, it will taste fine and be prepared to order (they are very accurate), but the meat will tend to have its sinewy/fatty bits you will need to cut around.  Nice little outdoor dining area which is sometimes 2nd-hand-smoke-kissed, but generally OK.  A short bike ride from the house, and bicycle theft seems less likely here than at say, Alonzo's.

Went there today and I must say they have come a long way in the quality of there food.  The pancakes were very fluffy and light.  The pork chops and eggs were good but one of the pork chop was a little on the pink side near the bone but I forgave that because they continued to give good service and very attentive as well.  The spinach omlette was flavorful and fluffy.  The hasbrowns were crispy and not too oily.  Now, I know its no Cornerstone but it was good and the service was good too.  If the ambiance wasn't so cookie crumbly, i'd give it 4.5 stars.

The new owners have been there for a year and they have improved it - was told the owner was a cook at Brookfields and much of the same is now on Cassidy's menu so give them a try one morning for breakfast.

Oh Man! What happened to Cassidys! When I first came to Sac and I was living in Midtown, I'd often skip Lucky or Cornerstone in favor of Cassidys. The Cassidys of old was WAY tacky, had sassy waitresses, and solid diner fare.

Apparenlty they've changed hands lately and now when you walk it, you'd hardly recognize it. It's sad......the charm is gone and now it looks fairly institutional.

The menu is the same but the current staff skimps on portions and the food is often left on the warming rack for long periods of time, with the end result being lukewarm, limp food.

I'm bummed.....I really wanted Cassidys to be around a long time and be "our place". I think it's just too far gone for that now.

A great place to go, if you happen to be over 60, and prefer your food soft & mushy.
