Review from Stefanie E.

I was about 15 the first time I ate at Casablanca. My family and I have been going there ever since. It's not exactly in the most ideal of locations, and really, if you drove past and happened to see that there was a restaurant in the dingy strip mall near Northwest Plaza, you would surely never believe they had the best hummus in town. Nor would you believe their pita is the most melt-in-your-mouth kind, and it scoops up the hummus, which is itself velvety, nutty and smooth, in the most seductive of ways.
Then there's the chicken kabob. I don't quite know how to explain it, other than to say the chicken is wonderfully moist, and sits on top a bed of rice, grilled peppers, onions and mushrooms, mingling with a sauce that tastes like a mix of soy sauce and chicken stock. I'll never know for sure. The owner refuses to share his secret. He must know the power it has. After all, if it could keep a family coming for well over a decade, it must be good.
My dad loves the baklava and the pies here. But by the time I'm done with my meal, which comes with a loaf of bread, a soup or salad and a vegetable, I have no room. Casablanca is one of those places that will totally surprise you. Half their menu is Mediterranean and the other half is American - greasy, fried and laden with gravy (oddly enough, they also have frog legs, and I've never seen anyone order them). I can't attest to this side, as I only come here for the more exotic fare. I've been told, however, that the four-cheese chicken is great, and I have sampled the pot roast once, which was fall-off-the-bone tender. It's a good place to go if you've got a lot of people who like different things.
One note: depending on who is there at the time you go, the place can be very smoky. It's a tiny place with about ten tables, so even if someone is smoking on the other side of the room, you'll know it.Listed in: Top Restaurants
