Support a local business and go to Casa!
I dare you to find a movie they don't have. Grab some popcorn, polish your sense of irony, and wander around. Their selection is unparalleled and the employees know their stuff.

One warning - make sure you return your movies on time. The late fees are pretty pricy! I'm a habitual late-returner and I've rung up late fees of up to $50. But... I'm willing to pay it, because I love Casa and I fail at doing things on time. I'll keep coming back!

I was a frequent customer in college. Whenever I needed to see something for class, or a movie I wanted to see, Casa was definitely the place to go...always! They have nearly everything I looked for, even movies in odd genres. Casa has two floors of the biggest collection of cinema I've ever seen in a rental store.

They have free popcorn, ample parking, ample on movies on reserve just in case it's a popular new release, low prices, used sales, and a very knowledgable staff

I was spoiled in college for the fact that I found the world's greatest video store.  Video stores are a dying breed due to PPV and netflix, etc.  Rumor is Blockbuster is getting ready to fold (fingers crossed).

Here is why Casa's the greatest...

1.  Free popcorn
2.  Collection of 80s cartoons on VHS (i.e. Transformers)
3.  Largest collection of foreign films I've ever seen.
4.  Movies grouped together by director or by classic actor/actress
5.  Largest random horror and sci-fi collection
6.  Always weird characters fumbling around
7.  Great documentary section.
8.  Complete Twin Peaks series.

Casa was great to find the most random videos of all time.  I dedicated once summer to renting Sci-fi / horror movies that had cool box covers.  It was a fantastic summer indeed.

Casa is the only great independent video store that I know still exists.  I hope it can survive in a market where all other video stores seem to fail.

Being of the I'd-rather-support-local-businesses variety, I'd most definitely rather go to Casa than Blockbuster. Every single time I've been in there, they've had exactly the video I've wanted (or didn't know I wanted until it was suggested) and have provided great customer service. They're friendly and helpful and seem like all around fun people. I enjoy browsing their vast selection of films. Pretty great.

Awesome local video store. If you've found this you likely already know. I have moved from midtown to the West side and I still head out to Casa for videos. It's just so nice to go to a place that feels like video stores should feel. And no blue or yellow neon lighting. Everyone in Tucson should have a membership here.

Casa Video is a first choice for taste in the wasteland of Blockbusters, a place, now vanishing around the country, where you'd love to browse and peruse the isles looking for that morsel of video big chains forgot about when they started carrying fifty copies of "300."

You can find almost anything here (although I've had some trouble with rarities) - the selection is the best in town, especially for classics, b-horror, and foreign film. They have new releases, sure, and with hours until 1 AM I've made more than one trip on the way back home when the overwhelming urge to watch "The Brain That Wouldn't Die" (or with MST3k commentary, even) nibbles at me.

As a bonus they have a pretty lucrative VHS selection as well, something that is sadly also going away. Sometimes you just don't want to watch the Marx Brothers in clear, high fidelity. Sections by director, and a Criterion Collection section are also incredibly useful, if not a relentless draw to rent far too many movies - which you can, with I believe two nights a week two-for-one specials, and fifty-cent extra charges for a week rental instead of three days.

With the recent inclusion of Blu-Ray rentals and revamped online database viewing and rental (I think they're including mailing soon too), I can't see how anyone can avoid this Tucson landmark and local business.

Well, I suppose there are the late fees, of course, but as I see it I'm doing nothing but supporting this haven for home moviers when I keep "The Buddhist Fist" a few days over.

Casa Video is truly unique. It retains that traditional movie theater feel with their free popcorn and huge variety of movies unlike any other video rental in town. You have to go here at least once.

They have an amazing collection of Anime, foreign films, and oldies. If I can't find a movie at Blockbuster I almost always find it at Casa.

Just a star off for being too far from home. If only these guys were closer. I would be a regular visitor. And I agree about the late fees. Blockbuster does not charge for late fees anymore, I don't have to worry about keeping it for a couple days in my hectic life.

Still Casa remains a gem. Come on Casa expand already!

I am only giving casa video 3 stars because of their outrageous late fees. I understand that this is where the money comes from, but it's not right. Variety be damned, I was so mad about how much money they charged me that I went to netflix.

also, it should be noted that the late fees were films from the 40's, not new releases. figure out a sliding scale based on demand, people!

Hands down, Casa is the best place to rent that impossible-to-find film!

I'm a media student at the U of A, the entire department uses Casa Video as its mecca for screening material of all kinds (as well as students who rent older films for analysis projects). Casa also has a great selection of foreign and anime films upstairs.

Stick it to Blockbuster and check out Casa. You won't be disappointed, and you'll likely find anything you are looking for.

Free popcorn to munch on as you browse.

Get stuck watching the movie playing on the screens throughout the store.

Extensive foreign film selection (extensive anything selection).

2-for-1 rentals on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

If you're around UA at the start of the semesters, grab a UA student coupon book and use the 2-for-1 rental anytime coupons.

One of THE coolest Indie Video stores ever!

I swear...in a world of Internet media, etc....it's such a blessing to see that Casa Video is still in business!

I work in the entertainment industry and have had my fair share of having to track down a movie or two, and boy, at times like those, I wish that Casa Video was in Los Angeles!!  I mean...LA has it's share of obscure movie places, but in my estimation...none of them beat CV.  They have THE largest section of off-the-wall and main stream flicks...

No need to go to Blockbuster...support the little guy and head to Casa Video.

This place is a service to the Tucson public.  It should be government subsidized.  School children should take field trips here.  Slightly disabled people should be given an endowment to stand outside a shoo away birds that may defecate upon its windows.

If God and Gandhi wanted to rent A Chorus Line, they would go to Casa Video.

You have to respect a video store that can thrive in the days of blockbuster and netflix. They have the largest selection of blu-rays in town and blockbuster orders only a few copies. Plus they have just about any movie that has even been released.

Casa Video is by far the best video store I have ever visited.  It may also win as the best video store to have ever graced this earth's existence.  The selection is unparalleled.  Their HUGE selection of independent films makes any trip there worthwhile.  BUT, top that with a new release section that never seems to be out of the big name films, free popcorn, and great movies playing, and I'm not sure you can go wrong.  And finally the kickers: Casa is open until 1a, even during the holiday season, and the number of days provided for rental is great.

The staff is usually apathetic and sometimes unfriendly.  But, you know what - that just adds to the atmosphere, and it's one of the few places where I think apathy is a true asset.  It's perfectly priceless.  I would appreciate a few more female employees though!!!

Be sure to go on Tuesdays and Wednesdays to take advantage of the two-for-one special.

We love Casa, and we take any and all visitors to the greatest video store of all time!

The thought of Casa makes me weep because I no longer live in Tucson and thus can no longer rent videos at my favorite store.
Casa Video is one of the many stores that makes Tucson Tucson. It has a HUGE selection of movies, vhs and dvd (yes I said vhs for those of you who still have a vhs player). They have something for everyone. You like teeny bopper movies? They have it. Or maybe you're a fan of obscure foreign film, they have that too. Plus they offer wonderful deals like 2 for Tuesday . Oh and my favorite part, aside from the free popcorn, they don't give you one of those damn movie cards. Because the last thing I want is another one of those stupid plastic cards in my walled taking up space next to the Albertson's/Safeway/Fry's card that I'm already forced to have. They just ask for you id. That makes the place feel even homier. Ahh Casa, I love you.

foreign cinema:

One of the only places to find foreign cinema of any value in Tucson, there are also thousands of other titles to rent. Great ambiance inside, cheap titles and it beats the corporates on every level  I don't think CrockBuster or Nit-flix carries "Sartre:  The Interview" et al.  Yeah, everything is now on DVD but I was going there when nothing was available except at Casa Video on lovely VHS.  Always great to enter it, free popcorn, browsing is fun as well.  Employees are scruffy, not like those robot clean goons at CrockBuster.  Good 'rare' titles upstairs.

I used to rent Herzog/zombie/horror flicks at the long closed mini Grant rd. location.

Compares to Kim's Video (NYC) and Le Video (SF).

When I was forced to move to Tucson by my significant other, I was afraid I would be in a cultural wasteland. Mostly, this is true, but Casa Video is my beacon of hope in an otherwise dull town.
Seriously, they have a VAST selection of DVDs and VHS tapes that rivals the big Blue and Yellow soulcrushing chain.
Plus, unlike that terrible chain, there are many really good documentaries of political and controversial nature. Plus there's porn, for you perverts who can't find it on the 'net.
Would that other businesses in Tucson were the shining standard that is Casa Video.

this is the Best video rental place of all time. I am so so so sad I don't live within biking distance anymore. I mean, I love LA, but no matter where I live or travel I can't find a single place that compares. I wouldn't even think of going to a corporate store instead. I would drive the 6 hours just to explore the upstairs documentary section.

best video store in the southwest for sure. competes for best video store EVER. seriously.

place has thousands of titles and will order almost anything you want them to. they almost always have it. want "Best of Backyard Wrestling Banned for TV".. tell em to get it and they will. nasty-ass porno? they got it. hong kong action films with subtitles you could never read? yep. all the current hollywood garbage too.

open til 1am everynight and that is when your dvd is due. beat that!

tuesday and wednesday are 2-for-1 and people crowd in. you can pretty much rest assured that you're gonna have do a stop-and-chat with that girl who dated that guy who is friends with that other guy.

they raised their prices recently, but still.. fuck blockbuster or hollywood and all that other crap. Casa is a local shop for local people. we'll have no trouble here.

a big difference between casa and lots of other indy video stores is the employees aren't total jackasses. they won't try to impress you with their obscure knowledge of bettie page stag films and won't treat you like the piss boy if you didn't know that stockard channing was 34 when she starred as "rizzo". but they will totally be down for you if you can't find the vhs copy of Koyaanisqatsi.

i can't believe they still rock free popcorn. that's rare even in bars these days.

another feather in tucson's cap for sure.

As far as I know, this is the best video rental store in existence.  The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, but the selection really sets it apart.  Suppose you want to rent the newest release and a VHS of the best hockey fights of the 1970s...They would probably have both available at a very low cost.  I only wish that there was a place like Casa Video in Chicago.

Casa is the best video store I have EVER experienced. I have lived in a dozen or so places, even in NYC, and they have the greatest selection---the documentary section alone could keep me occupied for a season (it's upstairs---don't miss out!). If they don't own a movie, you can put in a request and they are really responsive to their customers' desires. Yes, it's a little rundown inside, and there's a couple of wicked vents that blast freezing air on you in certain sections. There's free popcorn to make up for it. They also have the best deal ever---two rentals for the price of one on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. If you opt for older movies, that means you can rent early in the week and enjoy them on the weekend. Yes, it sucks that they have some one-day rentals on new releases, but hey, they have to make money somehow. Besides, the one-days turn over superfast, and within 2-3 weeks of release become 3-day rentals. It blows my mind that anyone would even think of going to crappy Blockbuster when Casa is just a few short blocks away and so, so, so superior.

Aside from the vast selection and great deals, the staff is also incredibly nice---no film snob jerkoffs who are going to roll their eyes if you opt for season 4 of "Sex & the City" or "Jackass: Number Two" instead of the latest David Lynch. They're more likely to be playing "Fletch" or a Mystery Science Theater 3000-worthy sci-fi flick than some tortured, subtitled, avant-garde short on the in-house television. Cheers to that. Honestly, I think I was so spoiled by Casa that there is no way I will ever be satisfied with another video store.

I would agree with the other reviewers that the selection at Casa Video is quite extensive, especially in foreign films and more esoteric genres. However, terms such as "best video store in the southwest for sure" and "low prices" are hardly fitting.
I would like to say that one should always do their best to return videos on time. It is in the best interest of the video store, as well as the other patrons, that videos be returned in a timely manner. But as life is, things sometimes do not happen as perfectly as we would like them to. I misplaced a video, an old 1970s VHS movie, and went to pay for a replacement. Little did I know my pocket book would be violated in this process. Even though they charged me a ridiculous price for it, (I searched online and found the same movie for 1/4th of the price they quoted), I still understood that that may have been the price they paid, and are entitled to a reimbursement. But on top of that high price, they charged me a late fee! A similar occurrence happened to a friend of mine- he went away for the summer to help with AIDS relief in North Africa, and when he came back, he found a bill from Casa Video for over $100.  Most other video chains cap the fees at the cost of the item. To me, this is not the way to foster the type of atmosphere their "free popcorn" would have you believe they aim for.
The service is inconsistent as well. The first time I went there, an older woman helped my friend and I find the movie we were looking for with great efficiency and was extremely friendly. The second time though, was a different story. I was ignored when I walked in (even the "big name" video chain makes an effort to say 'hello') and found the staff idly chatting with what appeared to be regular patrons.
Overall, I'd utilize Casa Video for the esoteric, and the "big name" for everything else.
