I've tried this place before several years ago at a friend's bday party when she had food catered by them. So when it came time for me to decide where I wanted to get some Mexican food for a party, I decided to come here. I decided on getting a platter of chicken enchiladas and a platter of beef enchiladas. It was about $30 a platter (pretty reasonable I think). The real test was when my family got to tasting them. My picky cousins all agreed that they were really good and full of tender meat. Yay! I will definitely come back here when I want to get party food! =)
I honesty didn't see the big deal. My fiance brought me here, after insisting that the food here was really good. (I'm mexican, I dont pine after mexican food so much after eating it for over 22 yrs of my life)
I had the house burrito. It contained of rice, beans, and thick carne asada .
The tortilla for this burrito were not hand-made. They tasted like an all too familiar tortilla I had all my life. I love the rice, the beans were cooked fully and not hard like other places. The Carne Asada was fuckin awsome, hella thick cut with the intense flavor.
Maybe I need to give the place another chance. The employees don't look too happy. the bathrooms are clean and I also enjoyed reading about the minimum wage law on the wall and the radio station stickers as I was washing my hands.
A lil pricey here. But the fixin's inside are worth it.

My mom cringes at the fact that I call this Mexican food....as it is not authentic.....however, I am never disappointed in my fare here. I LOVE their homemade flour tortillas (these are better than my mother's----shhhhhhhh). The staff are always great and up for some conversation unless they are super busy. Their birria (sp?), tamales, roasted chicken & enchiladas are yummy. We go at least 1x/week!!!!! They are great for catering too.

The only time I've had better hand-made tortillas was when I was in Mexico and my grandma...nothing can compare to my grandma's but damn do these come close. Really good burritos and tacos. Chiles rellenos are great, too.

i love me the quesidillas (sp?) the chimichangas are legit. and free refills are awesome.
the waitress was on point with all our orders and was super nice.
I love Casa Vicky's! They have the best hand-made tortilla anywhere. They are also a great place to get a great inexpensive dinner.
This place has great Albondigas, Cocido, homemade tortillas & chile rellenos. Mmmmm.....I think my favorite so far is their chile relleno burrito.
While you're waiting for your order check out the bakery section they make churros while you wait and they make great bunuelos! If you're not familiar with bunuelos.....they are fried flour tortillas covered with cinnamon and sugar....super yummy!
We didn't learn our lesson, we kept thinking maybe they just had a bad day...Heres this cute neighborhood restaurant which looks nice on the outside and in and then you are quickly disappointed by the unfriendly staff and untasty food! I swear all these reviews must be friends of the family....If the workers arent happy and the food tastes awful... then I'm not returning. The food is pricier than most taquerias, and we dont mind paying more, but then we expect at least a better taste. Their guacamole tasted awful, the only thing good in there is the chips which arent really that good. The rice and beans have terrible flavor and just overall disappointing dishes....Also,their pastries are heavy and stale... I really hope that the owners read this and hopefully treat their workers better and work on some New Recipes!
I've been here a few times for lunch, and it's nothing too special... But, not all that bad either. The food here is what you'd find in typical small Mexican establishments, but the service has been nice so far. It's not really a fancy place, but the friendly service and decent food makes for a decent lunch option. The location of this place isn't all that typical, though, since it's nested in a residential neighborhood, away from the busy downtown SJ area. If you want a lunch option away from the busy part of downtown SJ, and have a chance at finding some parking, this might be a pretty nice option for you. I'm not a huge fan of this place, but I think I'd probably return every now and then...

I've been eating Casa Vicky's food for 15years. The food is delicious, my favorite Mexican food in the South Bay. The homemade tortillas are the crowning touch
the first thing we heard about this place was how good their tortillas were. figured we'd dine there one day. i guess that's not the strength of this place. food was generic and average. after 3 trips we decided not to eat lunch/dinner there again unless in a pinch. however, we had breakfast one day -- eggs and cactus -- and that was pretty good. lunch and dinner stuff? i can't recommend it based on our few trips. we'll try the breakfast again and probably will need to pick up some of those tortillas everyone keeps talking about.
Their family pack beats El Pollo Loco on taste. For ~$18 you'll get a whole mesquite chicken + rice + beans + salsa + dozen homemade torillas. The chicken is excellent and the tortillas aren't anything like the store's because they are made fresh.
It's much cheaper if you do not want the condiments but I love beans and mexican rice.
Go to the store and buy some avocado, lime, onions, cilantro, cheese and you've got yourself a party.
If they had a more convenient location, guaranteed that this place would be packed all the time...

Been there a few times for dinner. Place has great food. I mean some of the best Mexican food I've ever had. Parking can be a little tricky (I don't know the area at all). Prices are amazingly good. People are friendly, and they even make some killer fresh tortillas. =) Awesome!
I can't wait to go back!

I have been here many times for dinner. It is really good Mexican food and here homeade tortillas are so good! They also have a great bakery so you can take home stuff to eat later ;)) Prices are really good and the place is super clean. Parking can be challenging sometimes depending on the day you go. I need to go there again ;))
This place cannot be missed, right at the corner of Julian & 17th St, though be aware that E. Julian is a one-way street (we were circling around and around trying to figure out which corner CV was on). You can find parking on the local residential streets; no parking meters! There really isn't much of atmosphere, as it is more like a fast food joint... The menu is expansive, with mole as well as meatball soup, and the dessert/pastry counter is quite tempting.
I found the food to be plentiful and quite flavorful, from the chile relleno to the carne asada. Plus, my rice was moist and fluffy, just the way I like it. The horchata was quite delicious--not too cinammon-y and fairly strained. What really topped the sundae off was the tres leches cake...I can't even begin to describe this homemade goodness replete with creamy milkiness.
Service was affable, and the ladies came around our table every so often to check up on us or take plates away. You do order at the counter, but since they offer table service, make sure to leave a tip! Almost all the tables were two seaters, but you can just push a few of these together to accommodate larger groups.
What makes this place better than other joints is the cleanliness. Everything is spotless and gleaming, no malodorous smells wafting from the bathroom. The ladies make sure to clear off tables as fast as they can, and they also use table mats and give out plenty of napkins.
I have absolutely no complaints about this place, except for it being somewhat in the boonies.
I will definitely be back if in the area, especially to pick up pastries, however, I won't be going out of my way just to eat here.
P.S. Their catering is also quite popular.
What a pleasant surprise!
We took the directions to this place to expect a small taqueria and a bakery. We were taken aback (pleasantly) by the size of the store. The store is split into multiple sections, but before I get there, I MUST say that this store is extremely CLEAN!
1- Bakery: Nice selection of baked goods are placed behind two glass counters. They have some desserts as well, as well as breakfast items. They also serve fresh Churros, made to order. Unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to try any, but will surely be back
2- Cafe: Nice selection of items, with a few vegetarian options.
We ordered their Veggie Burrito, which came with beans, rice, sour cream and salad/veggies. This burrito was so good! It was simple, and wasn't loaded with veggies or other stuff, but was just delicious. We were in the mood of eating some simple food, and this perfectly fit our bill
They also serve Chips and Salsa with the meal. Their Chips are one of the best I've eaten (I am not well traveled, but this is based on my experience :P). Salsa was mild, but flavourful
My wife ordered their Hibiscus Flower Horchata, which was nice as well
I ordered the Strawberry Margarita, and it came in a small beer like mug. They made a little extra, so they gave that to me too. That was nice and of moderate strength. But was definitely good.
Service definitely deserves a mention. Folks were helpful, smiling and courteous. Place, extremely CLEAN. Food very good
Was contemplating between 4 and 5 stars, and decided to give it a 4. I'll probably revise it once I visit their bakery and try out some stuff.
They also have a room, which can be used for parties.

After all the hype from Yelp and my friends, I finally went last Sunday for some good'ol breakfast! Walking in, my hopes were up as the place was clean, there was a lady making FRESH tortillas, rotisserie chicken, mmm!!
Ordering the chicken tamales, egg & chorizo breakfast plate, and menudo (yes, I was with someone else!) .. we were licking our chops as our eyes feasted on the pastries and steamy food.
However, when our plates arrived .. everything tasted bland and overly sauced/cheesed. Really, not that it was bad but it was just nothing to be excited over ... my taste buds don't remember much. Even from a hearty (HUGE) bowl of menudos .. it didn't taste like much - even after adding onions, lemons, chili flakes ...
So, it was a let-down and my hunt for a Latin breakfast venue continues ...
The food was mighty tastie and the homemade corn tortillas yummy! We went for breakfast the chorizo and eggs are a must order!
I came into the restaurant not feeling very hungry so I split a Super Burrito (flour tortilla filled w/ choice of meat, rice, beans, garden salad cheese, guacamole, & sour cream - $5.75) with a friend. The burrito turned out to be a lot smaller than we expected; it's practically a regular size burrito at some other places I've been to. I liked how they included guacamole because surprisingly, I've encountered many places that charge extra for it. The large Horchata ($2.75) was good, very cold and had a stronger cinnamon flavor.
Initially, I wanted to order the Carne Asada Fries ($9.95) thinking that it was the inside of a burrito but just layered on a bed of fries when in fact, it was broiled steak simply served NEXT to some french fries. I suggest they add Carne Asada over fries to their menu - it's typically a favorite among other Mexican restaurant patrons (especially in Southern California).
However, the sight of my friend's order left me salivating. He ordered two huge tamales (beef, chicken, or pork filling, wrapped in masa & steam-cooked in corn husks - $2.75 each) and three mini soft carne asada tacos (topped with cilantro and onions - $1.95 each).
One of the positives about this restaurant is definitely the different sizes you can get your tacos/burritos in: mini, regular and super. Most Mexican restaurants only have huge portions and sometimes, you just don't want to eat unntil you feel like throwing up. And this way, you can have a little bit of everything.
The restaurant is fairly clean and spacious - big groups would do well here. I'd give the cleanliness of the bathrooms a five out of ten (ten being spotless/bacteria-less). If you eat in, they actually bring your plate to you which I have not experienced often. I went on a Saturday afternoon around noon and it was not packed at all. Prices are reasonable and the menu offers a great variety which would make return visits a great possibility, if I'm in the area that is.

I haven't been to Vicky's house in a few years but I was glad to see it had not changed. Even more pleasant was that the food is still delicious. I had a chicken enchilada with a chile mole sauce. It was very good. It is definitely a level above any taqueria I go to. They make their own tortillas!!! It was fresh, delicious, and cheap. Highly recommend it.

One stop shopping, I love it. They have food and pan dulce, what is not to love. My dad lived a block a way when I was growing up and when I would visit him on the weekends this was our spot. My stepmother (that sounds so Cinderella) would take like two hours to get ready so my dad and I could go grab something from Casa Vicky and head to the go cart track. Let me start by saying because I am an freak about places being clean, this place is super clean all of the time, I mean the floors, walls, counters and even the bathroom. That is a super big plus for me. The food is great, I have never had anything I didn't like from them. The service is very friendly. Plenty of places to sit and relax, decor is nice. The pan dulce is great. Home made tortillas are great and sometimes I come just for those and some pan dulce.
Good food, Love the fresh torts. I go there all the time. If your in the area Its worth a stop.
Everything I try here is yummy. I don't recomend the taco's to go unless you put the meat separate as they get too wet. Still way tasty though. Love the barbacoa and the carnitas. Both tasty and tender.

The Best Torillas around. They make them fresh daily and sell them by the doz. I live in Morgan Hill and somethimes drive to San Jose just buy these tortillas. The corn tortillas are huge and thick - almost like flour tortillas. they are awsome.
I used to come here for breakfast with a good friend that used to live around the corner.
They also have a wide selection of pastries.

I attended a large birthday celebration over the weekend that was catered by Casa Vicky. The food and service were excellent!!
The servers were polite, attentive, and not overbearing. The carnitas were scrumptious and tasty, the rotisserie chicken was moist, flavorful, and generally divine. The sides of beans and rice were delicious. I would certainly consider using these guys for my own event in the future.

I used to buy a pastry for breaksfast at Casa Vicky every morning before school. My friend Monica lived at the next corner so I would walk over to meet her and we would stop here together on our way to San Jose High. The home made tortillas are the best!

The place is super clean and nice! I think I may have ordered the wrong plate though. I ordered the chicken enchiladas with green mole, but I didn't like the mole sauce. It was really salty. Once I scraped off the sauce I liked it.
The plate was a lot of food -- beans, rice, small salad and two enchiladas.
I only wish I would have been hungry enough to eat some of those delicious looking pastries in the case on the way in.
My brother dragged us in here to pick up a couple dozen of their tortillas and we were so impressed by the quality of their fresh homemade tortillas and their traditional mexican baked treats that we came back later to dine. So utterly disappointed with whatever it was we had: my wife had carne asada - meat was okay beans and rice were blah - the whole presentation and food experience was lacking. I think I had the carnitas and it was insanely dry and felt like the plate was forgotten under a heat lamp for 40 minutes. The margarita was rubbish. We will always go to Casa Vicky for tortillas but though I was willing to give their food a second chance the wife was not so forgiving.
The tortillas are a real highlight, and the pandulce is good. The menudo is tasty with a nice, clean both that you can really season yourself. Some of the sides and main dishes I'm not as fond of, but when I'm in San Jose, it is definitely on my short list of places to grab a bite (esp. for breakfast). The restaurant itself is super nice, in a hollowed out house, and on a nice sunny morning grab a window seat in the room where the fireplace is, have your pan y chocolate (o cafe) and you just feel at home...
They have the best fish taco. The sign said the fish was halibut, the fish was fresh battered, moist and flaky actually reminded me of dungeness crab :) . The only thing on the taco however was a swipe of refried beans. I would have liked some cabbage on it for some crunch.
We sat outside today but one of the patio umbrella's was kinda broken and kept hitting us in the head. Tamales were kind of flavorless and dry. Carne asada soft taco was ok, again no lime to go with the taco . We were not given hot sauce to go with our food either. We did have our margarita's from their slushy machine that is always running. that's a huge perk.
fish taco, soft taco, pork tamale and margarita came to about 13.30 it was way too much and i pretty much just left most of the tamale there.
Really good, solid Mexican food. First time I've eaten at the restaurant (bought tortillas and tamales once before) and really enjoyed it. The food was very good and the service was friendly. The tortillas (corn and flour) and tamales are terrific. Beans and rice are solid. The prices aren't bad either and you get a lot of food.
There really isn't much atmosphere but that's OK. It's a great place to bring kids and parking is very down-towny (if that makes sense) - some parking but you might have trouble if it's very busy.
My wife and I visit this gem monthly.
I always get the Carne Asada Platter (recently raised to $15.95). It's a nice bone-in thinly cut steak with beans, tortillas, rice and salad. Very filling and tasty...a good deal too....
They have all the standards and a couple of nice mole dishes too...
There's an on-site bakery with all kinds of nice lil' treats. Try the pineapple empanadas...delicious and cheap!!
**** 4/11/08 update***
Boy has Vicky's gone downhill. My usual order of Carne Asada was pretty bad. Near frozen fries, steak not cooked to order, inspid beans and rice. Usually my wife is very satisfied with the Enchelada De Casa....but today she told me " No Beuno".
5 stars just became 4 stars.

We tried this place last night and liked it okay.
My boyfriend's vegetarian enchiladas without cheese were, he said, bland, but the tortillas were good. He was unimpressed with the beans, but he typically prefers whole beans to refried anyway.
My fiesta garden burrito was horribly dry without any salsa of any kind -- had I known, I would have tried to order some on the side. It tasted all right otherwise, and the vegetables (carrots, broccoli, cauliflower) were cooked pretty well.
We also tried the vegetarian tamale, which we didn't know came with a bunch of sauce and cheese on top. The filling appears to be chilies and some kind of greens, and I thought it tasted lovely.
Then there were the slushes. "Small" and "large" are not the words I would apply to the drink sizes here, unless I worked at a movie theater or 7-11 (i.e., a large is a big ol' 32-oz cup). The lemonade tastes like a Hi-C type of lemonade in slushy form; the strawberry was a bit better, but not great either. Icy liquid things are great on a hot night and all, but I wasn't too impressed.

I had their catered food at a recent grad party and it was awesome. They had a chile verde (green chile sauce over really tender pork) and the homemade tortillas are to die for! I've never had any Mexican food that good before.
I was told that their catered package also includes the servers, who set up everything, tend to the guests (they were very nice), clean up and serve the food. If I ever need catered food, this place will be my first choice.
Since I have yet to eat at their actual location their website offers a menu and price list of the items they serve there. I believe their website is www.casavicky.com

Finally good Mexican food! Not quite Tex-Mex ( I didn't see fajitas on the menu) but the best taqueria in North San Jose. And you feel safe eating there. It's a popular spot with the local cops.
the food is so so and the pan mexicano is a little overpriced.
where they do shine is in the super big corn tortillas. made fresh daily!!
According to my wife (who used to travel to Mexico on a regular basis) the dishes are very authentic and reminded her of eating in Mexico. The food tastes good, is well prepared and presented well. One orders at the counter and then the food is brought to your table. You can get sodas, beer, wine or marguritas with your meal.
My favorite dishes there are the vegetarian burrito made with a variety of vegetables or their vegetable plate with steamed vegetables, rice and beans. They offer all of the traditional dishes, (burritos, tacos, enchiladas, etc...) with a variety of meats. My omnivorous friends who've eaten there have been very happy with their meals.
In addition to their regular dishes you can get fresh tortillas and churros that they make while you wait.
Casa Vicky has casual seating spread out in three rooms away from the main counter and two outdoor sections that look out on either Julian or 17th Street. The prices are good and the portions are generous.
Casa Vicky is a neighborhood gem and well worth a visit if you're passing through.
this place is great. it opens early and the seating area is spacious. it's the order at the counter, find a seat, and they'll bring out your food.
the food has always been tasty and flavorful for me. i have tried the menudo, mole, burrito, mini burrito, burrito mojado, enchiladas, chile verde, breakfast items, you get the point. i like the menudo... it's plentiful with meats and hominy.
they serve beer, sangria, and margaritas. also, the bakery selection is abundant and like everybody else said, they have the best homemade tortillas. oh yeah! AND the mexican coffee is soooo good. warm, a little sweet, and cinnamon-y.
We really like this place. I've never gotten a bad meal here, and the counter service is pretty friendly. Their vegetarian platter, for $6.50, has rice and beans, veggies, a simple, basic salad, and all the fixin's (cheese, guac, sour cream, and tortillas).
They are know for their broiled rotisserie chicken.
They have a coffee bar as well, which I like. Great tempting desserts and plenty of parking. The only thing that would make this place better is a salsa bar.
