2 reviews for Casa Tropicana Boutique Beachfront Inn
My husband & I are staying at the Casa Tropicana Inn right now. We're spending 4 nights of our honeymoon here. Our room & the inn itself wasnt what I was expecting... the inn's web site led me to believe that it was going to be super posh & classy. The inn is great... just more open & casual than i was expecting. But our room is really nice... just not super fancy like i was expecting, for lack of a better term. We're staying in the Casita Estrellamar room. I chose this room b/c it's an ocean front room. However, now that I'm here & can see the set up of the hotel, I realize that an ocean front room really isnt important. The deck that over looks the ocean & the pier has an AMAZING view. Anyone can access the decks on each floor, so there's really no need for a room w/ a view. Since the room is right on the main common area deck, we had to keep our blinds closed alot anyway. My husband & I are both young (25) & stayed up kinda late each night, so people talking on the deck didnt bother us; but I think that may be a problem for older guests who are expecting peace & quiet.
There is a train that goes by RIGHT IN FRONT of the inn. It didnt bother my husband or I b/c we are not light sleepers, but I can see how it might bother some.
Breakfast is set up on the 2nd floor every morning between 8:30 & 10AM-- pastries, scrambled eggs, breakfast burritos, fruit, etc.
The mini fridge in your room gets restocked every day w/ juice, wine, candy, crackers, & other goodies.
There is no elevator, so your luggage has to be carried up the stairs. The woman at the front desk is super helpful & friendly and she demanded to carry my suitcase upstairs for me. So lack of an elevator wasnt a problem. All in all, a great inn w/ an awesome view, right on the beach. But definitely not a quiet, super peaceful inn if that's what you're looking for.... & we weren't... so we really enjoyed our stay.

My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary last year, and the hotel/B&B itself is great.
I would have given this place 5 stars, but there's one big problem, and unfortunately not something they can do anything about: they are right across the street from the train tracks, and various freight and Amtrak trains go by there and blow their horns around the clock.
Not the most relaxing atmosphere.
We spent two nights there, and I think we got sorta used to the horns and the building rumbling as the trains went by, but if you're super sensitive to that kind of thing, I'd recommend something more inland.
We stayed in the "Casita Estrellamar" which was a terrific room, right in the front of the building overlooking the street, patio (where breakfast is served, so if you want some more privacy beyond the blinds, choose another room,) the SC pier and the beach. Our room had one of those run-and-jump-up-on-it high-up beds; I was 8 mos. pregnant at the time and was afraid I was going to need a forklift.
The room also came with complimentary sodas, wine and snacks (candy bars, chips, etc.) plus some beach chairs and a beach umbrella for my butt whiteness and my fry-to-a-crisp tendencies.
All in all, I think they've tried really hard (and succeeded) to make this a nice place with really nice decorating and superb service, despite the locomotive running through your room...
