"Man this place is a simple bliss - I mean to get away from the CHAIN restaurant feel/vibe. This is the place to go. Their drinks and chips…" read more »
i remember the food being good, but what i remember most is there being a mariachi band going from table to table during the night! the food could have tasted like shit! i think they play like every thursday or friday night. check it out!
More like 3.5 stars.
Coming from Richmond, the prices seemed a little high to me.
($11 and up for most dinners) But there is a coupon on their website offering 50% off a second entree).
My hubby loved his veggie fajita platter-a large sizzling dish of onions and peppers with whole beans and rice with a side of tortillas.
Our friend L ordered chicken enchiladas and I ordered the mole enchiladas. Both of us enjoyed our meals....not outstanding but very good.
The chips and salsa were tasty. I wish we could have gotten a refill on the chips. Our waiter was friendly but disappeared during our meal.
We went to this place by default. We couldn't find our first choice restaurant so we settled on this place. We would try this place again.

Just got back from this fine establishment. The decor is kinda worn in a good way but there are several semi private booths. Service was excellent and prompt. Portions can be huge, my BW ordered a chicken burrito and could only finish half. The salsa and chips are excellent. I like the whole beans instead of the refried. A good eatery at a respectable price.
Like this place alot.
My partner always tells me "You can tell a good Mexican restaurant by their Salsa" ...She's right again! :) The food is wonderful, Love all their sauces: Red; Green ; Mole., whichever you choose you'll thoroughly enjoy. Top shelf Margarita's are the bomb! Great comfort food. It's also nice to have a pet friendly restaurant for those of us with a tag along Pooch :)
I love the booths in here. They are semi private, and you can get up to all sorts of mischeif in certain spots...;) There are also a lot of murals on the walls. Some of which seem odd and almost scary...there's one with a lady and a guy and a chicken and another guy...I don't know what they are doing... I stare at it every time.
The food here is very good. I have a tendency to be a bit of a "Sally" when ordering Carne Asada. I like green chili sauce on it. But not the green chili sauce with pork in it (chili verde). The waitress/waiter never gives me a dirty look or anything, they just bring me my carne asada SWIMMING in green chili sauce! YAY!
The margaritas are well done, and the chips and salsa always have just enough kick to keep you sipping the margaritas.
There used to be a really loud mariachi band that played on Fridays. It made conversation a bit of a game.
ME: "Tickle your ass with a feather?"
HIM: *Surprised look* "What?!?!"
ME: *naughty grin* "Particularly nasty weather, huh?"
HIM: *Somewhat suspicious* "Uh yeah..."
I haven't seen the mariachi band in months.
They let you have your dog outside on the patio, that effing rocks.

Came for lunch on a weekday. Got a pork tamal/tamale with black beans and rice ($6-7ish) which was good. The chips and salsa were fresh. The corn tortillas were ok.
The exterior and interior both need some updating. The interior is dark so it feels cold inside.

If you're in the mood for Mexican but not the typical taco, enchilada, burrito fare, check this place out. They do have the aforementioned items but we really have enjoyed their specialty dishes.
They give you plenty of chips and salsa to start - and it's good salsa with a nice kick. I've had their margaritas and sangria - not bad. My husband loves the "Pipian" dish - diced chicken in a pumpkin sauce (I think)... I know, that sounds different and it is and it's good! I'm a big fan of the Arroz con Pollo - it's a ton of food that you'll probably have to box up but hey, that means you'll get seconds!
The service has always been friendly and even let us sit outside one evening even though everybody else was sitting inside (they have heat lamps on their patio). You know service is good when your waitress doesn't forget about you and you are the only one of her tables that is sitting outside!
This place is definitely worth a visit.

Yay! My 50th review on Yelp! :)
I've always driven past this restaurant whenever I want to go to Central Fremont. So, on Sunday, when I was craving Mexican food, I suggested to my husband that we try Casa Robles.
It "looks" dead from the outside. And I made sure that I saw the "open" sign before stepping out of our car. Once inside, I was impressed by how roomy and inviting it was. We were seated immediately. I asked for a high chair for my 8 month old and was relieved to find it clean.
Food was decent +. Since I can be a lightweight sometimes, I was/am grateful for their extensive a la carte menu. I ordered the avocado tostada and it was the perfect portion. It was actually pretty good but I would probably ask them to hold the refried beans next time.
They were generous with their warm chips and salsa.
Service was friendly, attentive and efficient.
Wish I could give them a higher rating, but their sangria prevents me from doing so. I was very disappointed. It was bland, already watered down and they still served it on a ton of ice. I had to add a packet of sugar. OMG! I can't believe I did that!
Overall, a satisfactory first visit. Next time, I'll try one of their margaritas - hopefully they're better. :)

This restaurant is interesting because the business sign is soooo ghetto but the restaurant is much nicer. The outside reminds me of a 1970's building and the inside reminds me of a cabin. Weird huh? The restaurant is pretty big. There's a lounge/bar area and then some more seating which include cool high wall booths.
For me, chips & salsa is a reflection of how the rest of the food on the menu will be. Chips & salsa here were so good!! I can only describe the chips to be "soft crunchy" because it doesn't have the usual hard crisp when you bite into it. They came out very warm. The salsa was nice and spicy (probably a 6.5 on spiciness level). But in terms of food... it was not even close to how their chips & salsa tasted.
I ordered the "one enchilada" combo from the lunch specials ($6.75). It is one enchilada (duh), beans, cole slaw, rice & tortillas. He brought out our dishes first and then asked if we wanted corn or flour tortillas. I was actually unsure as to how I was suppose to eat these... mix stuff from my dish into it? or eat is separately?
Enchilada - sauce tasted very generic & almost canned. My friend & i both agreed that the cheese on top was really weird... "bad stringy" is all we could think of. Rice - dry. Beans - nothing special, flavor was bland & it was also topped with the weird cheese so I didn't feel like eating it. Cole slaw - oddly sour.
For Price Range, I put 2 dollar signs even though I paid less than $10 because overall, the food is pretty pricey. I would say that the average cost of a dish is $12. I won't be coming here again unless there's a REALLY good reason.
For Mexican restaurants in Fremont, I still prefer El Patio.

I'm extremely mixed on this place. I tried it years ago as "Fernando's" and it was pretty poor. I tried it recently as "Casa Robles" and it was quite tasty. However, I think it's the same place, because they have the same name on many of the menu items (such as the El Loco mixed drink).
On my original trip, the cheese enchilada is what I really didn't like. The cheese was like some kind of processed cheese spread. Not good at all. However, on my most recent trip, the food was excellent, but took forever to get to us. And the service was worse than average. The refried beans were the best in Fremont, and the fajitas were quite good, too. Chips were overcooked, though. It's the type of place I'll go to once or twice a year. Hopefully it continues to improve.

Everything I have ordered from here has been soooo good! This place has more than just your ordinary tacos and burittos. Bacon wrapped prawns and crab enchiladas are just a sampling of what they offer. I think they have live mariachi music on weekends but I have yet to check it out. Great neighborhood restaurant.

This place has some of the best mexican food I've ever had. It used to be Fernando's, but has now changed ownership. Everything I've tried on the menu has been FANTASTIC! I urge all mexican food lovers to check it out. Make sure to try something that you don't usually order- the Sopitas are awesome, as is the Arroz con Pollo. Chips are Salsa are excellent as well, the salsa is fresh, chunky and has the right amount of heat! The margaritas are good, but make sure you try the El Loco (or something like that).

ok, now i feel dumb.
we have lived right by this restaurant for almost two years and just dined here for the first time about a month ago. we walk right by it all the time but it always looks empty and kinda dark... both big red flags in our book.
anyway, tired of our usual haunts, i looked to see what other yelpers have experienced here and of course, was reassured again.
yummy, authentic mexican food!!! i don't berieve it!!!
yeah, we're coming back here.

The four starts in not for the food, but despite it. The stars are primarily for the entertainment - fantastic mariachi band! We go to Casa Robles every week just to see them, and eat dinner there because it allows us to feed the little ones & stay to listen as long as possible. If the food were great I'd give it 5 stars. The food is passable Mexican fare at best, though if you like seafood the seafood salad has PLENTY. If it's just about the food there are better places, but go check out the band! They are there every Friday night from 7 - 10 pm.
