When I told my Seattle friends that this was the most amazing potato burrito ever, I believed myself, because I remembered having one, at one point, and it was good. But holy mackerel! I finally came to Bellingham once again with the potato burrito in mind, and it surpassed my memory's expectations. I mean, I KNEW it was good, but I didn't remember HOW good. My favorite part about it is that they fry up the potato chunks so it gives a good crunchy texture when it's inside the tortilla mixing with all those sauces and cheese and beans that could potentially mushy up the tater, and that's an added plus if you're vegetarian and are bored of the same ol', same ol' BRC (bean, rice and cheese).
The cantina in the back is also BEAUTIFUL. I think they have rotating art on the walls (which was also amazing-some simple mirror and paint works), but the bar has been decked out to look almost like an undersea grotto. The liquor bottles glimmered and twinkled when I walked in. Simply gorgeous. Too bad we couldn't sit back there with my friends' baby, but I did order a cheap Cuba Libre which also turned out to be rather strong, too.
Yum! I can't wait to be back in Bellingham for one of those potato burritos!
Oh, by the way, is service always that..."caution: slow children ahead"?
I found the hygienic state of the place a complete turn-off. It's hard to believe that any of the meat-free dishes could be authentically vegetarian given the filthy state of the place.
I'll certainly give them another shot at some point but not for a while.
Now, with wireless internet!
I did have a bite of the famous potato burrito, and if you are a vegetarian, I'm pretty sure that you already know about it. If you don't, head in and give it a go. They do have a bar in the back, and the help was friendly in letting me know that the beers were 2.50 on a Monday. Much, much better than that 'other' burrito place down the street.
This is my favorite restaurant. I try to stop here every time I go through the area, and have introduced it to several friends - most love it about as much as me.
Number one suggestion: Substitute black beans if ordering the potato burrito. It makes it even more amazing.
Number two suggestion: Do not get the mexi-cola (I think that the coke with tequila). Coke and tequila do not mix.
A few years back, there was a gasp across my office. It turned out that Casa Que Pasa had closed down (something about not paying taxes). Several of my coworkers were also former WWU Vikings. We were all almost in tears. We were SO incredibly happy when we found out that they reopened. We actually made a trip up for their potato burritos (which have shrunk considerably in size) and their delicious secret sauce.
The only thing, don't look at the kitchen. It is kinda nasty looking, so just ignore it. Avert your eyes for the burrito!
I would rather of lost the $25 i spent there on the ground, I would have been a lot less pissed at myself. The food is beyond bland and blah
Being from San Diego, I totally expected something awesome. Turns out it's just a cheap hipster hangout with crappy Mexican food. Maybe I'm just spoiled by awesome San Diego Mexican food. Everyone keeps telling me how great of a place this was, but I just don't buy it. Maybe it's hit or miss?
Maybe I'm being too judgmental on the merits of it's food and not the establishment as a whole. For the area, I guess you can't get any better than this place, but I was really disappointed.
Love the potato burrito! We hit this place after getting into town on a Friday night and we were starving from our drive. After two margaritas and a potato burrito, we were more than satisfied (and pretty drunk). We probably should have saved this for after snowboarding, but it sounded so good, we couldn't resist.
2 words. Potato Burrito.
Eat it. Dump a bunch of their great selection of salsas, eat it up.
Yum. Things have changed as people have said, but considering it's been pretty consistent for over 15 years, I still go and love it.
I was sad to see it close and excited to see that new owners reopened it. However, it's not the same. It makes me sad to rate Casa as a three but it's just not the same with the new owners. The service and quality are inconsistent and the margaritas taste awful.
I ate here often when I was in school but I don't get up to Bellingham too often these days. I still remember my cousin ordering my first rancho for me. I was skeptical of it but after one bite I was a fan.
I love Casa when I need a dark, divey place to hide out, drink and eat. The food is cheap, plentiful and creative. Their specials change every day and almost always include something vegetarian and yummy.
Food: I usually get the Green Magma quesadilla. Beans, cheddar and cotija cheeses, plus peanuts, sprouts, lettuce and a ridiculous green hot salsa. Sometimes I get the Lite Lunch, which is beans, rice, and tortillas. It's about three bucks, if you can believe that. Hubs loves the potato burrito almost as much as he loves me. He gets it with sunflower seeds and tortilla chips, plus extra special sauce. It's as big as the plate they serve it on.
Drinks: Casa is known for tequila. I am not a connoisseur, but I'm game to try just about anything. My tequila-drinking friends love the selection. I like their Margaritas just fine. In fact, I had three of them last night. Not a good plan. The Tequila Sunrise is a bargain, and there are usually six or so beers on tap that I like.
Casa's atmosphere is bright up front, where you order from the counter, and dark in the back, where there is wait service, and the bar and jukebox keep things lively. Up front is for families, and the back is for drinkers.
Nothing fancy, but you can't beat Casa for a casual hideaway with decent food and good drinks--for cheap!
Gawd! The Potato Burrito is amazing!! Actually, that doesn't do it justice. It's out-of-this-world and I ain't no vegetarian. There is this creamy sauce that comes with it and THAT is the cherry, on the icing, on the cake.
I'd consider this a Bham staple if I lived in the Ham. Friends of mine make Casa one of their priority stops whenever they visit, and sometimes I'm lucky enough to come along for the ride.
You have to come to Casa and try the Potato burrito if you are in Bellingham - it's just basically a must.
I like this place enough to have my mom FedEx me burritos to California for my birthday. The food is excellent ...really unique. It's hard to imagine that you can make Mexican food so different that it shouldn't really be called Mexican food anymore - but Casa Que Pasa does just that. I'd rather live in a universe with a Casa on every street corner instead of a McDonalds/Sawbucks, but I'm stuck here instead. ---sigh---
Check out the cool local art that's usually hanging on the walls and get yourself a Potato Burrito - half rice/half beans, extra sauce...mmmmm.
great place, the ambiance really is right up my alley. Pretty funky, unpretentious and comfortable.
The staff they have now is great, whoever is hiring is doing a great job. Very attentive and friendly. The crowd it draws is friendly and varied, great scene.
The food is pretty good, but I don't don't go to CASA fof that. They have great drink specials; tight wad tuesday is sick and i have struggled through many wednesdays due to its being sooo sick. They just have a good think going right now....
Really enjoy frequenting CQP.
There is nothing - NOTHING - in the world that beats the potato burrito after a day of snowboarding at Mt. Baker. Or hiking in the N. Cascades. Or climbing at Washington Pass. Or sitting on your butt driving in between Canada and Washington. Nothing. Seriously. I basically can't move away from Washington because Casa que Pasa is only 150 miles away. I can't, however, attest to anything else on the menu becuase after the first bite of potato burrito, I was hooked for life. If there's something better, I don't want to know about it.
Not enough can be said about Casa Que Pasa the best, best potato burrito ever. Maybe the best burrito ever. I love this place with all my heart. Plus 2 margaritas, a burrito, and a beer for $17 hmmm.
Great Mexican food! Good service too. The portions are huge and they have cool art on the walls.
Located across from the Bellingham bus terminal this is a good place for a yummy afternoon snack. I always get the same thing bean taquitos topped with sour cream and cheese, 5 big ones for $3.75 this is the closest to San DIego I have had. They have a good salsa bar here too with, my favorite, hot carrots mmmmm. The rest of the menu looks good too and I hear they have a good tequilla bar too.
I only ever get the Potato Burrito so I can't speak to the rest of their menu items, but even if that was all they had I would still eat here all the time. The restaurant itself is ok, a little too hip for a big nerd like myself.
But oh man do I ever love their Potato Burritos, the sauce they come with is so damn good.
All depends on what you want. If you're looking for lots of food for a small price, this might be the place. I had the chicken/bean/rice burrito...at best, it was ok. Still, it was huge and only $6 after tax. Still, when I have options like Taco Lobo, Casa will lose out every time...but like I said in the opener, it all depends on what you want...which is why I'm the only one giving it a low rating. You'll find lots of locals here, mostly college age...sticky tables, not much atmosphere, and not a real family type place.
Passable Mexican food made by dirty, stinky hippies. By no means authentic and not nearly as good as La Pinata was. Anyone else from the Ham remember La Pinata? Their Pollo Asado was the bomb. Still Casa beats out corporate burrito joints like Chipotle.
$6 burritos that's the size of your forearm and free wi-fi, what else can you ask for? Great place for a college student looking for good food on a budget. Their potato burritos are so good that I always try to stop in Bellingham on the way up north. Pan fried potato cubes mixed with beans and cheese, serious yum!
Good tequila (they have too many different kinds to count, including a nice tequila that goes for over $10 a shot) and super greasy, hardcore Mexican food. I'm talking eight pound super burritos, deep fried and filled with potatoes, beans, rice, mounds of guacomole and sour cream. Sounds amazing, but it provides killer gut-burn. They have this amazing sauce there that we all call "crack sauce" because it's so good and addicting. I'd recommend it if your drunk or if you feel like cleansing your digestive system. Almost always packed on the weekends and filled with college kids.
I recently moved to Portland after living in Bellingham for four years and oh how I miss Casa! I'm becoming convinced that there is no other potato burrito in the world that even deserves to be called a potato burrito when compared to Casa's. Order extra sauce just to be safe.
i'm mainly giving a good review because of the awesome margaritas there, super strong which makes me happy. i tried the vegan burrito for fun, i'm sure the meat ones are better but it was pretty dang good for vegan stuff.
potato burrito. . . YUM
