Emeryville, CA
More like 3.5 stars.. but I'm willing to give it a 4 because I will come back.
The place is worth it if you're able to get a deal. On the way back from Southern Cal, we decided on a side trip and purchased a deal through Orbitz for $135/night. The hotel is located smack dab in the middle of Monterey, south (?) of Fisherman's Wharf and Cannery Row. They say it is walkable -- I'm sure it is. But with a bratty 11 year old and a little 9 month old -- can can prove to be challenging!
Our room was appointed with very nice linens and pretty nice beds. I believe it was two double beds. Flooring was so so.. you could tell this was once an older motel that had been redone top to bottom. The bathroom was nice with L' Occitane lotions and shampoos, etc. All and all, we liked the hotel. It served it's purpose for one night, at not too high a cost.. and was close to everything nearby that we wanted to see. Rooms are smaller, but cozy.
Only advice here.. get a top floor room. I should have asked, but was lazy. So when our neighbors upstairs finally checked in, we could hear them stomping in with their bratty kids (hey, I don't like any one else's kids but my own... ). But there is a "quiet time' at the hotel and that is after 10:30p... so it was nice.
Definitely will return, with more requests next time. There's a gym, along with a nice restaurant and spa. Didn't get a chance to visit either since we were out exploring the town of Monterey. -

We did a spur of the moment getaway and this place is a tremendous value!! The Tappas at the Restaurant were great and our room was wonderful. Ask if they are doing any specials...
They threw in two aquarium tickets and the 2nd night half off regular price. The value was tremendous staying here. I will be back. -

So, my review would probably be five stars, but I have a small bone to pick. Here goes:
We got a great deal on a king room w/ fireplace, + discounts for the spa and restaurant, via LivingSocial. $130 for all of that, yay (by comparison, a standard room was going for $110 on Travelocity). AND there's a heated pool!
I have absolutely zero complaints about the room - it was clean, comfortable, and warm. The parking was convenient, the location perfect (most of the other hotels are closer to the water, and are priced accordingly), the restaurant fantastic.
My only complaint is thus: We decided we wanted to stay a second night...unfortunately, there were no king rooms left, but they offered us a chance to look at a queen room (sans fireplace) instead, so we did...
...And it was awful. Scuzzy bathroom, tiny room, no fireplace, tiny TV. For the same price, $130 (though we probably could've scored it on Travelocity).
The key here? Book the king room. -

I love Casa Munras! I went twice in 2011 and will go again this month. I saw in some reviews complaints about the room size. The first time I stayed there it was on a deeply discounted deal and we had a small room, which I can understand - they're going to give the best rooms to those who are paying more. I get that. I paid more the next time because we needed to accommodate 3 people and the room was bigger, etc. Even at the higher rate, it was still a steal for Monterey! I think those who have been unhappy are not fully aware what hotels charge in Monterey. Plus we really love the restaurant - Esteban. It might actually be my daughter's favorite restaurant. We've only been there for dinner but have enjoyed it very much each time. So great to have it right on the property. Landscaping is also very pretty. Enjoy!!!

Mountain View, CA
I was here a few months ago and the experience was horrible.
The check-in process took over 30 minutes because the front-desk lady decided she was going to give a 5 minute rundown of Monterrey for every guest. Normally that would be awesome, but not when there are 5 guests waiting!
When I was finally checked in and found my room, I opened the door to see someone else's luggage, shoes, and stuff all over! Umm....
So I go back to the front desk, wait another 20 minutes for the lady who keeps talking to finish, get another room assigned + breakfast credit (that's it?).
I didn't even get a chance to eat the breakfast because I was literally there as they closed the door and they refused to let me use the coupon.
Never again. Next time, I'll stick to the Marriott or Intercontinental. -

This review is for the hotel, not the spa or restaurant.
Pros:
Dogs allowed for $50 per night
Heated pool (we swam when it was only 60 or less degrees outside)
Got a good deal on a king bed ($189 after dog fee)
Basic amenities given, including robes
Comfortable beds
Walking distance to restaurants, wharf
Cons:
Way overcrowded, almost cramped, in every way--tiny rooms, parking crowded and not ample, can hear neighbors
Dirty carpets in both rooms we've stayed
Hotel staff is nice and very helpful but they seem understaffed at desk and restaurant
We'll probably come back for the right price -

-Hella noisy early in the morning (why the f was there a huge truck backing up with the stupid beep beep sound at 4 am on a Saturday AND Sunday???!!!)
-Nice helpful staff.
-Gym was so so, small but did the job. ( once you've acquired the body of a god it doesnt take much to maintain it )
-Location is pretty close to everything so thats cool.
-Room was decent.
-Cheap bike rentals from the front desk.
Overall wasnt bad, but i might not give it another shot though just cuz of the effing noise. -

Loved staying at this quaint little hotel. First time here and would stay again. Room was clean with a large flat screen tv and you can rent for free movies at the front desk. Heated pool was nice and for $12/person you could use the amenities at the sap-sayna, showers and outdoor hot tub with fireplace.
The restaurant Estevab in the hotel is great. We got some tapas and a bottle of wine to take back to our room. Driving to the Monterey Bay Aquarium took about 7 minutes. Great location-would definately recommend!! -

Loved everything about this hotel. The best part about it was the front desk staff. Especially Maria, Sabrina, Bob, and Roberto the Bell Man. They all went out of there way to make my stay great!
The rooms were perfect and the beds were really comfortable. It was just a short walk down to the wharf.
I can't wait to come back again. The location to the staff was all right on for my vacation to Monterey! -
Review from Mark H.
Didn't have a great stay here - nothing overly wrong about Casa Munras, just not really worth the price. My room was renovated (meaning repainted) with new furniture, etc., but it still had the feel of a '60's motel. No bedside table or light. Bathroom was small. Room was kinda drafty, too. The common areas seem 'happening' but maybe not laid back enough for Monterey. I enjoyed my stay across the street at the Hotel Abrego - much better room at least.

Don't be fooled by the price and the photos; this place is a motel 6 with a little lipstick and rouge. The lobby looks nice and so does the room but it is a motel, so don't expect to sleep in. At about 8 am we could hear bags being rolled across the walkway, heels clacking, seagulls squawking, and the exact words of people talking above us. Also, the bed looks nice but has one of those waterproof mats on it so it feels like sleeping on trash bags. There is no jacuzzi, unless "the spa isn't busy, you can pay $12 to use it." The fireplace in the room was nice but made the room hot and there is no A/C. Location is so so. $10 cab ride to cannery row. We could have stayed at the Hyatt golf resort for the same price but I picked this Inn (motel) b/c of the reviews. Do not make the same mistake.

Studio City, CA
Casa Munras in Monterey, California thinks it's a boutique hotel, but if that's true, my expectations for what a "boutique" hotel should be and what Casa Munras offered were not the same.
Overall, it's a clean and perfectly acceptable hotel. However, I do not think the value (in this case, $200/night for a King Bed with fireplace) was in line with the product. On the surface, it's a great deal: fireplace in the room, King bed, L'Occitaine bath products, all at a "Larkspur Collection Hotel." The staff was exceedingly friendly and professional. However, for me, it's the details that take it from the level I would expect from a La Quinta-type hotel to a "boutique" hotel that's worth paying $200/night.
First, the security lock on the door was hanging by a single screw, and probably could have been pulled off completely if I had tried. This shows me they don't do regular maintenance of the rooms (or if they do, it's not very thorough). There were water stains on the chairs in the room, and a crack in the surface of the bathroom vanity. There were also two tiny holes in the bedsheets that, if they hadn't been at the very top by the pillow, might have gone unnoticed. It seemed like a hotel that was past its peak.
The L'Occitaine bath products did make it feel more "up-scale," but I used all the lotion the first night (tiny bottles and it's dry in California... what can I say?), and it wasn't replaced the next day. Also, there's a recycling bin in the room (yay - a hotel that recycles!) but it was the blue plastic kind... not a very classy addition to the room decor.
As I said - nothing dramatic. Overall, it was a clean and comfortable place to stay. But there were too many little details that were just a little bit off (like holes in the sheets and a door lock that's broken) for me to recommend this place to others. I've had just as good a stay at a lower-cost chain. -

I booked Hotel Casa Munras from http://Priceline.com because it had fantastic photographs and was described as a boutique hotel. The hotel has a very nice appeaarance but there were a couple of things they don't tell you on their website. First, the room was very small. It was clean which was great, but not very spacious at all. You could also hear the neighbors and running water from rooms close to us. Secondly, the hot tub is not near the pool - it is located at the Spa and you have to pay an additional 12 dollars per day to use it! I have never heard about that in my life! I feel that Casa Munras needs to advertise that or take away that ridiculous fee (however I do like the fact that the hot tub is for adults only. The hotel is also close to a lot of points of interest, which is great since we did a lot of tourist type things.

Novato, CA
Stayed 4 nights in the King Concierge room. It was on the corner of the 2nd floor so noise from neighbors wasn't really an issue except for the 1st morning when super noisy kids paraded by (luckily they left that day). However our corner was next to a fairly busy street so the occasional motorcycle or truck distubed us. No view to speak of. Good location in terms of being close to food and activites.
Our room was remodeled in 2007. Nice high ceilings, fireplace, A/C with a fan only option (must be the cheaper rooms missing AC, glad I had it), TV was a flat screen (Philips brand), comfortable bed with nice linens and 6 pillows (down I think, wife LOVED them), small fridge (kind of noisy but not terrible), nice radio/alarm/Ipod dock, rolling office chair + small comfy seat with large foot rest. A desk area next to a closet and the room came with robes and slippers.
The bathroom had pros and cons but it was pretty.
pros - nice floor to ceiling tile with high ceilings
Large soaking tub big enough for two (even a 6 ft 2 guy like me)
Glass enclosed shower with two shower heads
cons - toilet was one of those really tall ones, might be nice for an older person but even for a tall guy like me it was uncomfortable. A short person would be really uncomfortable
The ceiling fan comes on with the light automatically (wise choice for the managment, but slightly annoying to guests)
the drains were VERY noisy when draining, and the tile/high ceiling echo made that worse.
The bathroom door was a glass pocket door (the bathroom should be private yes/no?), which made a loud bang noise when opening/closing.
The staff was helpful and nice and in the lobby there were free apples and fruit infused water most of the time. The free cookies are only out from 3:00 to 5:00 and the one time I was in the lobby during that time they were gone :-( There was a small DVD library with a decent selection but nothing very new. I never went swimming but the pool looked a little small. There is a Spa and Restaurant on-site but we didn't go to either. The only problem there was our hallway always smelled like fish, but the smell didn't make it into our room. -

We did find the Living Social deal for this hotel, but we were not disappointed! The place is very clean, and the rooms are very roomy. We did have a king bed, with a fireplace, and a room with a pool view. The beds were actually very comfortable, unlike other sketchy hotel beds. L'occitane bath products made it even more enjoyable!
Oh, and don't forget to go into the lobby on your way in/out, cause there was always a refreshing complementary drink and/or apples and cookies!
Also, check with the concierge when pondering where to eat. They'll give you coupons!! Thanks for the recommendations, Norm! -

San Francisco, CA
I will start by saying that the staff at Casa Munras was absolutely welcoming and friendly, and the encounters and interactions I had with everyone from the reception desk to housekeeping were always pleasant.
Unfortunately, the rest of hotel as well as the amenities don't' quite live up to the standards that I've come to know in Larkspur hotels, and although most of the rooms were renovated, some of the rooms seem as if they were left half furnished, lacking even simple necessities like a dresser or work table.
The bathroom was depressingly small and tattered, and the condition was no better than a motel. The room that we were in didn't even have a bathtub, only a shower, and even the l'Occitane products that everyone has raved about didn't help to spruce up the place.
The worse part of it, as most guests have already commented, is the level of noise, as due to the maze-like layout of the rooms, sounds seem to verberate throughout the property, and if you're unlucky enough to be staying in or near a building with late partiers or a horde of tour bus groups who shuffle out at the crack of dawn, be prepared to be awaken along with them. -
Review from Johnna B.
Booked it through hotels dot com and got a really good deal. 3 nights, two rooms for around 600 plus I got a free kindle. I've been looking for a way not to pay for one of those for a while.
The service here is really top notch. You call for something and they're there, in a snap. We called for a fan as it is SO quiet that baby could not sleep. We also called for shampoo and service arrived with 3 bottles. I have a lot of hair. I also made a mistake booking online and the front desk did the best they could with no issue.
The toiletries are l'occitane, which is nice for hotel toiletries.
The rooms are very clean and it's the perfect distance from all the chaos of tourist-ey Monterey. My young sister-in-law from Indiana said it was the nicest hotel she's ever stayed at, which made me feel good.
It's not as conveniently located as the Marriott but at less than half the price Casa Munras is definitely doable. And just to warn you, parking is a bitch if you're a late arrival, but it's free (unlike the Marriott.) -

Pittsburg, CA
I would give Casa Munras one star but they deserve at least two because their staff is wonderful, warm and friendly.
Like other reviewers my biggest complaint is the noise level. Rooms 117, 118 and 1119 are directly across from the dumpsters. We were in room 118, and the garbage truck came to empty the dumpsters at 5:30 am on Sunday. There was a lot of yelling, machinery noise and slamming of doors and lids.
The rooms are clean but old and musty smelling. Someone else called the bathroom spacious. My husband and I would not be able to get ready at the same time, the sink area and tub are small.
When you think of Casa Munras, think of f a large inexpensive chain motel room with L'Occitaine bath products -

We came here in November which I think is off season. The prices were great and I loved the look of this cute and modern hotel. The staff is so sweet and most of them greeted me and my husband by our first and last names. They gave us great recommendations on places to eat too! We had a super king room with a fireplace. It was quiet and had a little table for us to play scrabble. They also gave us wine for my birthday! Location is good too. You can easily walk to the wharf or even Cannery ROw like we did. WIll be back for sure!

Review from John M.
The girlfriend's father flew in from San Diego, so we were off & running on a frenetic weekend NorCal sightseeing spree.
Winding down our day in Monterey after the previous day's mad dash crisscrossing of San Francisco, the girlfriend & I settled into our room at Casa Munras. Thanks to Living Social, we got a great rate on the room.
Casa Munras is another somewhat recently renovated motor lodge near downtown Monterey similar to another place we recently stayed nearby on Abrego Street.
Parking is free & spaces run along the driveway that snakes between the numerous bungalow-style buildings. Because there is no central parking lot, we ended up having to park fairly far from our room because all the close spaces were taken.
The room itself, noticeably having been remodeled not too long ago, was reasonably nice & clean, but there was an interesting mishmash of the good & the not-so-good:
There was 1 long bare wall that made the room feel Spartan. A dresser there would have made the room look & feel better.
The windows had plantation shutters, a few of which had broken louvers.
There's free Wi-Fi in the room! So many hotels get this wrong, it just boggles the mind.
There's L'Occitane products for the toiletries. I don't customarily pay too much attention to hotel bathroom items, but that L'Occitane stuff worked really well for me.
All in all, Casa Munras was A-OK. A clean room, free parking & free Wi-Fi are what I appreciate the most. The rest was sort of good & sort of not-so-much.
Comparing Casa Munras to the other nearby hotel I stayed at just 3 months prior, I prefer the hotel near the corner of Abrego & Fremont. Future stays in Monterey are more likely to be there than here. -

Berkeley, CA
Stayed at Casa Munras for a night getaway in Monterey and the room is adequate and pretty standard. The front desk staff on the other hand are amazing and very helpful. I would if I could, give them 4 stars just for their customer service...
Location wise, it is set apart from the heavily touristy traffic and forces you to have a nice walk down to Ocean Avenue through the downtown Monterey area. I'm not sure if I'd stay here again though. -
Review from Lyn C.
BOO:
-No a/c, but there was have a fan in the room.
-I'm not sure if the fan in the bathroom was not working or not existent, but that bothered me the most
-DVD player kept spitting DVDs out, but managed to get it to work
-Bathtub was small
-Free wifi was not always available.
-Mini fridge froze the cut up watermelon into one big icemelon!
YEAY:
+Besides those minor flaws, the place was very clean & comfy
+Got a great deal for 4th of July weekend on Travelocity's secret hotels for 3.5 stars list.
+The room was spacious
+L'Occitaine bath products-Most hotel bath products are too perfumey, but these weren't overly fragrant.
+Centrally located with a very easy walk to Trader Joe's, downtown, and the wharf
+Front desk was very friendly & helpful
The YEAY's definitely trump the BOO's and I would recommend Casa Munras to others for future stays, especially if you can get a good deal through Travelocity! -
Review from Kathryn L.
Dublin, CA
When we come into town, all we need is a place to sleep at night and this hotel does the job. The lobby area is very nice, as are the tapas restaurant & spa on-site, but the rooms are very simple...this includes the recent renovations. From our last stay, the rooms now have mounted flat screens & stone tile bathrooms. However, amenities haven't changed; no air conditioning (heater only), no microwave, iron, & refrigerator upon request only.
Still, the rooms are relatively clean & their featherborne beds are very comfortable. Also, the staff is extremely accomodating and provide 5 star service. They called when we arrived to make sure we were satisfied with the room. When we called to let them know the TV wasn't working, a repair guy showed up within 2 minutes. Because they don't have microwave in the rooms, they did offer to microwave anything we needed (food for the littles).
My fave thing about the rooms are the Verbena L'occitaine shampoo, conditioner, lotion, & soaps (LOVE IT!). For husband though, he doesn't care. Overall, we generally have pleasant stays with no negatives. I will say that if you have more than one kid 3 & under, you might want to opt for a hotel with bigger suites, which is what we'll likely do next time. -

San Ramon, CA
Stayed for 1 night. Clean, looks like it's been recently renovated. Set up like a 2 story motel spread out. Not enough parking, you'll end up parking a few hundred feet from your room.
The room had the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on! Room was clean, had a large flat screen, a mini fridge, wireless internet included and plantation shutters. No view, just the building next door. We booked thru http://Hotels.com and got the room for $169, however we had a $100 coupon off. So, $69 was a bargain! I would not pay the full price.
About a 10-15 min walk to Fisherman's warf. A nice Spanish inspired restaurant within the property with other dining options close by. -
Review from Anita L.
Sunnyvale, CA
So I used the living social deal and booked a one night weekday stay for a king size, deluxe fireplace room. The room was clean and decently sized for two people, and the bed was very comfortable. They also have a DVD player in the room and a little library in the lobby where you can rent out movies to watch. You can switch the fireplace on and off as you please.
However, the fire never goes completely out. There is a little pilot light that always stays on, which I'm pretty sure is not the safest thing especially so close to sleeping people. The bathroom also leaked a little bit of cold air so my bf and I had to keep the door closed all night.
We ate at Esteban restaurant, and I thought the food was delicious. However, I will not be going back just because the dishes are so ridiculously overpriced. The recommended amount of food for two people was two appetizers and four "tapas" entrees, or so the waitress told us. So my boyfriend and I did just that and we ordered a little dessert each and the bill came out to $100! Good thing we had a $40 credit through living social. Yea, not doing that again, but definitely worth the experience.
We also took advantage of the $50 credit at Sano Spa, located right across from the restaurant. My bf wanted to get a massage last minute and they were able to accommodate us for a couples massage, which is great. However, when I had first booked my appointment, the receptionist had told me to come early and enjoy the facilities which included a hot tub and neck warmers. So we did just that, but there were no neck warmers and it was freezing out there! I thought there would be at least some space heaters but no. And there was no supply of towels out there so when I got out of the hot tub, I had to resort to using my bath robe as a towel and I was sitting there uncomfortably wet for a while. I had signed up to get the honey treatment massage but the lead masseuse who specializes in that treatment was injured and so they had asked me to downgrade to their signature aromatherapy massage and offered me a complimentary upgrade which was cool with me. However, they had told me that I was getting one of their best masseuses to replace the previous one, but I don't believe that was the case for me. My masseuse was great and was super friendly, but to me, it felt like she was still new at what she was doing and lacked the experience that I was told she had. All in all, it was a good massage, but I would probably go somewhere else that was a little cheaper.
Overall, Casa Munras is definitely worth visiting, especially when it is so close to attractions like Old Fisherman's Wharf and downtown Monterey. Enjoy! -
Review from Nique F.
Spent one night here while passing through Monterey on business and was delighted by the prime downtown location, drive-up motel-style rooms, beachy clean decor, and fireplace with an on-off switch! Now that's my kind of rustic.
The hotel has a Spanish feel, and the rooms are like cozy little casitas. I was upgraded to a fireplace room (127), a welcome bonus during rainy season. I was able to walk to the Tuesday farmers market, grab coffee at Peets in the morning, and hop on the freeway within 3 minutes. Although it's not a business traveler hotel, there are plenty of highlights that make it biz friendly.
Rooms are tasteful, simple, almost Pottery Barnish. Loved the feather-top mattress, plush bath robes, and large vanity area separate from the bathroom (for all the girl stuff). My room was facing Munras Street and got a little noisy at night, so request one further back if you are a light sleeper. Altogether, a lovely hotel experience in the heart of downtown Monterey.Listed in: Central Coast stuff you'll…

Review from Lauren O.
So...booked this hotel through hotwire's "4 star hotel for a 2 star price" deal. 4 stars is a STREEEEEETCH for this hotel. It's a nice 2.5 star that gets and extra star for it's location (walking distance from the wharf) and maybe an extra .5 star for having a spa on location. But the rooms are nothing special.
Everything about this hotel was "fine." We were next to some spring breakers and there was some noise. It's not like the kids were being especially noisy, but you could tell the walls were thin (we could hear the TV). There's no in room AC so we couldn't drown them out with the fan (which is my usual strategy). Called the front desk for a fan and they brought us a portable one, which worked just fine.
Had a headache the morning after and went to the front desk to see if they had any excedrin/advil/etc. and they didn't- they even checked their emergency kit, but to no avail. Le sigh.
The beds were especially comfortable, but everything else about this hotel was again, "fine" but nothing above and beyond. It's a nice place, just meter your expectations. -
Review from Brandie S.
Long Beach, CA
Overall grade for our stay back in June has to be C+ average.
YAYS: Rooms are pretty standard. They are comfy & room products are great. Room tip: get a room towards the back (it may cut down on the noise level, though I'm not sure, see my nay comments about noise levels) and with a fire place. Room has a DVD player and a mini fridge (great for storing water bottles, which you can stock up on from Trader Joe's around the corner). There's a turn down service too. Hotel is centrally located: you can walk it, cab it, or drive it anywhere!
NAYS: As many other reviewers mentioned, there is no AC, you've got to open the windows. Which would be OK, considering it was cold and who doesn't like a fresh breeze, however, like many other reviewers noted, the noise level is bad. You can hear EVERYTHING. The peeps in the room next door watching tv, flushing toilets, and even bathing! =/ You can also hear the peeps walking up and down the paths near your room and the dude who has to press his honking alarm a few times to make sure it's locked, EVERYTHING! Beware of that. I personally did not enjoy the onsite restaurant, Esteban's. We tried to grab a drink for their infamous happy hour, but they seemed to not be interested in serving cocktails. The outside patio area looked nice, but since the service was bad, we left to find another place. -

Awesome place to stay in Monterey! I love the fact that it's right off the freeway and so near to downtown. And once you're there, check in, and you get to drive up to your room! Excellent for parents with active kids and massive luggage! Rooms are clean, up to date!
Staff was especially nice to our whole family and even our dog! We ate at their restaurant during happy hour, which was excellent as well! -

Charming taken to the next level. Seems like this place used to be a motel, but it;'s been refurbished and upgraded to the max. The rooms are sufficient, get a fireplace for sure! The suites are in a newer section and are everything you'd expect. They have everything you could want or need and withing walking distance of town.

San Mateo, CA
First of all, this place gets massive kudos for having an extremely helpful and polite front desk staff. I was lost in downtown Monterey at night with no idea where I was going so I decided to call for directions. Lady made a couple mistakes at 1st but quickly corrected herself and made sure I got there safely. The room was cozy, decently spacious, had free wifi, good cable and a very comfy bed. Oh yeah and a Revlon hair dryer for the lady, I had never seen that in any other room so that was definitely a big plus. I was definitely not complaining for $80 plus a free $25 gas card for my stay.
All I gotta say is, the pillows are comfy but damn can you give us any less?!?! That's by far the most pillows I've ever seen on any bed! I believe the amount of pillows hit double digits hahaha seriously like 10 or 12 big ass pillows taking up like 40% of the bed. Jesus, my girl and I got a kick out of that when we couldn't even see each other buried in the plethora of pillows laying side by side. -
Review from Zoe L.
Long Beach, CA
Cons: Room was tiny, no counter space in the restroom, not enough towel racks, no bathtub, no shelving in the shower other than the soap dish, and the shower door did not close. Pillows weren't that great either, and terrible for TV/movie watching. Furthermore, it was extremely noisy, even with staying in a room toward the back, and the flat-screen TV (nice, in theory), had serious color problems. Additionally, I attended an event at the hotel itself, featuring food from the restaurant, and it was remarkably average. They also wanted to charge $8.50/beer $9.50/glass of wine for the "cash bar" set up in the private event, when the hotel's own bar was 30 feet from the event room and the prices in the bar were $3-4 less per item.
Pros: great location for walking to Monterey wharf area, L'Occitane lemon verbena bath products (though I don't love smelling like Mr. Clean), and in-room DVD player. I've stayed in much, much better places for the same price or less. I was really disappointed. -
Review from Skye W.
Who would have known that the Intercontinental's prices would skyrocket the weekend before Valentines day? Based on trip advisors reviews we settled on Casa Munras. This hotel is located in the heart of Monterey, not on Cannery Row where the aquarium is.
It is not a large building, but rather several small buildings with each room exiting to outside. The room we got had a large comfy bed and a gas fireplace. The TV was way old school and small that we didn't even bother to turn it on.
My biggest pet peeve about this place was that the shower in our room did not DRAIN. or barely. GROSS. does not make up for awesome l'occitane products.
What is great about this place is the service. They go out of their way to be accommodating. We had a ton of trouble finding parking after dinner one night (i suspect that they don't have enough parking for the amount of rooms they have). He went to the front desk to complain, and right away someone came out and offered to walk around the parking lot while we drove to help us. In the end he let us park in an open handicapped spot.
The hotel also rents bicycles. YAY. and helmets. Double yay, They only have 4 bikes in 3 sizes, so you gotta go early to get yours. The rates are $20 for under 4 hours and $25 for anything over. The bikes are in decent shape. We wanted to bike the 17 mile drive, but the darn ATT golf tournament had it closed off to the public. Either way there are tons of bike paths along the coastline.
So overall the hotel itself was pretty meh but the service was great. -

I just got back from Monterey and we stayed at the Casa Munras. One word TOP NOTCH. The front desk staff was very accommodating as the first room had a slight issue with the bed. They immediately moved us to room 119. That was it. Excellent room. Nice and big, bathroom was humongous and the fireplace and bed were great. Also a nice good size refrigerator. This room use to be the honeymoon suite years ago. Fully remodeled.
It rained most of the time we were there but the restaurant and the bartender were so nice. The grounds are kept up so nice the pool is a comfortable 80 degrees all year round. The spa was also very good just tried there services once. I was there for a site inspection as we do plan to send groups there. I would not hesitate one minute. Close to restaurant's, Lopez is a great Mexican restaurant literally a 2 minute walk and Rosinis blew us away that we had dinner there twice. Thanks Casa Munras and Safarina for a wonderful time.

Pretty decent for the price. A step above something like a Days Inn but not significantly.
They clearly spent some coin on redoing the lobby area, but not so much on the rooms. The room we were in was a bit worn and smelled somewhat like a pool. The no AC wasn't killer as we stayed in October. Location was fine and overall the service was fine, but I would only stay here again because it was the right price. -

I don't normally give out bad reviews. I may try to stay again to give them a second chance, however, I had one of the worst experiences ever at a hotel.
Wasn't because they lost a reservation or gave me someone elses room. Basicly, the hype wasn't what it is said to be and its so noisy! Most rooms are right next to parking lot if all. So like a no tell, motel you get noise from foot and car traffic. The walls are so thin you can hear everything! I was on a downstairs room and you can hear every footstep coming down the walkway and stairs. The rooms are very small and no AC. So even though Monterey is normally cool, your room gets warm and then opening windows makes it even more loud. Then if you take a shower, there is no room for the heat and steam to go. TV's are out of date. bathrooms are big enough for maybe one smal child. Only good things were the soap and shampoo, smelled great, and the bed was pretty comfortable. When you arrive you get this feeling that the place is very posh, but it is clearly brushed aside after you get to your room. I think they try to make it nice but for the money, I'd stay somewhere else.

First of all, I LOVED my stay here. Beautiful cozy room with BIG bed and lots of pillows, romantic fire place, convenient location, and L'occtaine bath products. It was perfect for a celebration at Monterey Bay Aquarium the next day.
HOWEVER, after I got back from the quick trip, I discovered my entire leg was covered in bug bites!! It was not mosquitoes or spiders but BED BUGS! Needless to say, the next few days were filled with scratch-ful misery and a few oozing bites.
Such an disappointing ending to a fun trip. I'm scarred by this experience and will be bringing lots of bug spray to the next few hotels I choose to stay in. -

Stayed here for the half marathon that is held at half a mile away. It was perfect since it was walking distance to the start line. I thought this was a decent hotel. The parking seemed limited but the room was perfectly fine. We were in room 150 and the pros were a comfy bed and mini fridge . The cons were the paper thin walls and lack of a view. Wouldn't stop me from staying here again though.
If you like to stock up on food, there is a Trader Joe's nearby. -

I loved staying at this hotel, and we got an Expedia deal for about $150/night. Next time, we'll make sure we get an upstairs room...the floors are thin..so if you are in a bottom room, you'll hear all the footsteps above and it will be a bit loud. Apart from that, the rooms were really clean and nicely decorated, the lounge and restaurant had a very good happy hour (perfect for our arrival) and inclusive hot breakfast (perfect for our departure). TV cable connections weren't great, but hey, we were on vacation...our DVR at home was keeping track of our favorites. The location and the professional staff could not be beat. It's not a resort hotel by any stretch of the imagination, but a good, comfortable place to rest after a day of wandering around Monterey/Pacific Grove or even nearby Carmel (10 minutes away). Beds were great and bathrooms had hot, highly pressurized water. What more do you want for a sleep nook?

Enjoyed our stay..I got the Living Social deal and really like the room and amenities. We slept well, which usually isn't the case for me on the first night in any hotel. I also liked the fact that it was downtown Monterey, where you could walk to Traders Joes or Peets or any other location. The room was clean and I really like the bathroom decor! I would definitely return!!
