6 reviews for Casa Malibu Inn On the Beach
When they say "On the beach", they aren't lying! We stayed two nights in room 101, which is a corner ocean front room. If anything, it's almost too on the beach if such a thing exists. People will be sunbathing within feet of your deck. The view though, is awesome. You'll see nothing but Pacific ocean and the newly reopened Malibu pier from your deck.
Make no mistake, this is a funky place to stay. If you want 5 star service, valets or a day spa, you might want to go up the road. What you'll get here is as close to a true Malibu experience as you can get. The waves are loud but don't keep you awake at night. The bed is comfortable, the TV is a smaller Vizio, the fireplace is electric and adds a nice touch, although the ticking from the timer is distracting at night. The room service from Marmalade's is outstanding. The parking, although free, is cramped and limited. The small fridge is next to the toilet(!) and the WiFi worked sporadically. The hosts are welcoming and wonderful. The chaise lounge on the deck however, had got to be the most uncomfortable piece of furniture ever created.
Midday summer rate was $400 a night, which may seem steep, but if you figure in the free parking (other hotels charge $38 a night just to park your car) the Continental breakfast, and the view, it'll seem like a bargain.
Its a amazing quaint Malibu experience. I didnt mind shelling out extra to stay at this inn which is literally on the beach! Who needs a spa, valet, or concierage when the nice woman at the front desk hands you fresh beach towels and gives out muffin and orange juice for breakfast. Once you experience Casa Malibu, your definition of relaxation will be completely transformed. With a private beach, deck overlooking the ocean, and all the best malibu has to offer within a few miles. Basically I could move here and be happy.
I knew my stay here was going to be special, when a few days after I made the reservation on the phone - I received a HAND scrawled confirmation letter, infused with delight and excitement "about meeting" me. Huh? Enlightened, appreciative customer service... My brain does not compute.
This hotel/motel/villa/bed and breakfast doesn't disappoint. It remained a solid 5 stars from the second we pulled into the parking lot. You walk in, you see lush gardens, quaint charming brick walkway, and an ocean view that just doesn't quit.
The room itself was like a shabby chic chalet, with white painted distressed furniture and a vaulted beam ceiling. It was clean, inviting, comfortable - and had a crisp beach feeling... Big windows overlooking the whitewater view. And a large cozy deck, that you could fish off of.
The morning of our departure, Flipper and his friends decided to frolic RIGHT in front of our room. Almost an hour of zany dolphin fun. Fuck you Sea World, I am just going to check into Casa Malibu. Wifi, dolphins, and superb customer service. It doesn't get any better.

What a very special place. It is an oasis of old-fashioned hospitality and relaxation among the craziness of the greater Los Angeles area. The rooms aren't luxurious, but they are clean and comfortable.
The innkeepers are perfect mellow laid-back Malibu surfer types that will make you feel comfortable and welcome, but otherwise will just stay out of your hair. The best part is the overall atmosphere... it is a little slice of retro paradise. Practically the entire place is covered in ivy and tropical plants. It isn't sleek and new, but classic and comforting. You feel like a movie star from the 50's getting away to your bungalow between days of film shooting.
There is a great patio that overlooks their private beach which is combed clean and smooth every morning. It isn't the cheapest place you'll stay, but you'll feel like you should be paying a lot more for solitude and relaxation.

Guilty. That's what I was when I stayed here on business. It's a business trip, man. You're supposed to be at a Hampton or a Courtyard. Someplace with a gym you ignore on the way to Cheesecake Factory, and a business center to print off shit for your meeting.
But no, I would stay at the Casa Malibu. Where my cell phone didn't work and they shut off the switchboard at 11. Where the free wi-fi sometimes just stopped working. Where the sound of the surf could sometimes drown out the sound of PCH traffic. You couldn't reach me and I felt bad about that but not completely bad.
In the morning I'd go say hello to the gracious innkeepers, grab a pastry, coffee and OJ in the lobby and sit on the brick patio watching the sun coming up over Santa Monica. I knew I should iron my shirt and go to work. But I'd sit there another 20 minutes almost everytime. Guilty guilty guilty.
Ms. A and I made a special trip out to Malibu just to stay there again this week. Nothing had really changed. The fires got close last Fall and the storms have washed a lot of the beach away this Winter, but these things happen. It's Malibu, man.
