We stayed here the night after we got married...

The rooms are tiny. My wife liked the "homey" feeling. I was claustrophobic. I thought it was OK, but NOT worth the price we paid.

I'd actually give it 3 stars, BUT the made to order breakfast the next morning was really good. The eggs benedict was the best I've tasted by FAR! (5 stars for that)

I wonder if you can just stop in for breakfast?!

This was the hotel we used for my bridal suite before my wedding, and as our honeymoon suite for my husband & I after our wedding. The place is beyond relaxing! We had a beautiful view of the water from our room, the grounds are perfect for pictures (we took a ton there and they turned out great), and the staff is so accommodating.

After our wedding reception my husband and I returned to the room to find champagne, fruit, chocolate covered strawberries, two engraved champagne glasses for us to keep, and a really sweet note from the staff congratulating us. The next morning we got up early an enjoyed their breakfast by the fire looking out onto PCH and the ocean. Our stay couldn't have been better! We plan on coming back every year we can to celebrate our anniversary with them.

In answer to Francois, I am in total agreement to his comments.  I just want to add one more thing and that is I left two dresses in our haste to get back to the Bay Area for another engagement and Casa Laguna graciously sent them to me pronto!   Thanks again Casa Laguna for a wonderful stay!

Stayed here a couple nights for a 5th Anniversary.  Very professional staff, friendly, knowledgeable.

We arrived early, our room was not available.  We walked around the grounds, found the slightly hidden bell tower for some nice cool shade.  They called my cell when the room was ready.

The room was nice, decked out, but still old.  Bed was nice, patio was nice (we had a great room, front, facing ocean).  The jacuzzi tub was great.

Breakfast was amazing...took pictures each meal.

We did a dual massage...very nice room.  Small, smelled nice, dark, water flowing, soothing music.  This was followed by the use of their "executive" jacuzzi.  It sits above the main pool area...private cabana/chairs, champagne, flowers, complimentary glasses.  Great way to spend a summer day.

We caught the free summer shuttle system into town for dinner/shows.

The parking was a bit strange, but fine.  Watch out for the hill of death and the tight parking lot.  Bring a small car if possible.  The Accord was fine.

Price was high...but felt reasonable.

Since the early 1970's I've stayed in a variety of hotels and bed and breakfasts in Laguna Beach. Some were good, some were (and still are) really run down. About five years ago we discovered Casa Laguna Inn and it's been our favorite little hotel every since. It has all the quaintness and unique feeling of a B&B without the downside of feeling like you're staying in someone's house. Nor does it have the rubber stamped and musty feeling of the hotels crammed up against one another in downtown Laguna. Quite frankly, you have to visit the hotel to get the full experience. Then again, the web site paints a pretty accurate picture.

We stayed in The Cottage the first time (before the recent remodel) -- can't wait to try it now that they've upgraded it even more! The most recent trip we took the kids and stayed in The Balboa Suite and our kids went nuts. For starters, they've never had someone personally take you to your room. We've stayed in some very nice places and they just don't do that anymore. So as the desk agent began showing the kids around the room all they could say was, "Wow! -- Look at this Mom!" It didn't matter what they pointed at -- it was high quality. Our kids keep begging us to take them back and why not, the it was a two-room suite with plenty of privacy, separate baths (Jacuzzi tubs in each room!), etc.

Things I love about Casa Laguna Inn:

Location:
It's on the quiet South side of Laguna Beach but still close to downtown.

The Rooms:
The ocean view rooms are a delight. So romantic in the late afternoon!
Wow these beds are comfortable! Forget those terrible hotel beds -- these are top notch and you'll never sleep this good at a big hotel!
High quality amenities, Jacuzzi tubs, TV's, etc. Very well done.

Other:
The cozy Spanish architecture.
The setting of the pool -- beautiful!
The included wine and cheese hour, yum.
Breakfast. Oh, did I mention breakfast?!? Worth waking up for!!
Good value for your money.
The staff is so professional and sweet.

Negatives:
It's on PCH. Then again, what hotel in Laguna Beach isn't?

We've kept this little hotel as our private secret for years but I guess we'll share it with you ;-)

What a beautiful and relaxing retreat.  The Inn is located right between downtown Laguna and Dana Point, so it's perfectly situated between a lot of stores, restaurants, beaches, etc.

The Innkeepers and other staff we encountered were so helpful and friendly.

The view of the ocean is beautiful and from the room we were in, #12, we could see a gorgeous sunset.   The grounds are well landscaped and there are places to sit all around the grounds that offer privacy or a view.

The breakfast was so good...you get to start off with a scone or fruit, I chose fruit and there was a nice variety of fresh fruits, beautifully arranged.  You then have a choice from a number of entrees, I went with a simple dish and was pleasantly surprised by the mushroom sausage, yum!  Plus, you have the option of eating outside (near heat lamps if it's chilly); it was a good and relaxing breakfast.

The room had everything we could ever possibly want, including chocolates, a whirlpool bath tub with great showerheads, an incredibly comfortable bed that you don't want to get out of in the morning, even a tv/dvd player tucked away and a library of dvds in the lobby area.

I had zero complaints and wouldn't change a thing.  I only wish we were able to attend wine and cheese and had remembered our bathing suits!

Excellent choice for Laguna Beach, or anywhere - we recommend Casa Laguna very very highly.

Pros include:

- Beautiful buildings, gardens, pool, etc. with a unique, 'romantic getaway' character.
-  Well-appointed rooms, very comfortable, great bathtubs.
- Fantastic breakfast - you will definitely eat here every morning of your stay (included w/price).
- Wine and cheese hour very relaxing and gracious - had a good time talking with fellow guests and each other each evening.
- Dog friendly - we don't have one, but like them, and several guests had very cool dogs.

Cons:

- It's not cheap.  Definitely think it's a fair and good price for what you get, but certainly a choice for special occasions (for most people out there).
- A bit difficult to walk from the Inn anyplace - on the highway, so a walk to downtown Laguna is do-able but takes some time, and shouldn't be attempted, say, at night after dinner.

We have been there twice and will certainly return - if you are on the fence but considering splurging and would like someplace that won't let you down, this should do it.

I took my wife here for Valentine's Day a few years ago before we were married. We stayed in The Cottage, based on the luxurious photos and description found on the website, and the fact that they are dog friendly. Overall, the stay was a pleasant one, but it wasn't the perfect getaway that we were expecting/hoping it to be.

First of all, let's get to the good things. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, and I got the feeling that they really tried to be hospitable. The food was tasty, especially the breakfast.

However, not everything was roses. The actual facilities and our room were a bit of a disappointment. It's like when you look at the menu at McDonald's, and the Big Mac looks so juicy and delicious in the photo, but when you get it and open up the box, it just looks flat and unappetizing. This is what The Cottage was.

For those of you who do not know, The Cottage is the pimpest room in the whole place. It's detached from the rest of the rooms, and it has it's own private gate, patio, balcony, etc. It's essentially a private, ahem, cottage. The photos made it look like "The Palace", but when we saw it with our own eyes, it looked more like "The Hovel." Okay, so it wasn't that bad. Nothing was in disrepair. But it just didn't have the same luster as it did in the photos. It felt dingy. The place was clean, but there was an ant problem outside on the private patio and there were spiders in the bed! Also, we couldn't figure out how to get the bath/spa to work, and there were no clear instructions.

Another negative was that although they were dog friendly, it didn't seem like there were many places to actually take your dog around the area within walking distance. We ended up walking through some back alley residential area up the hill.

Would I recommend staying at Casa Laguna Inn? Yes, but I wouldn't necessarily splurge for the Cottage, and I personally wouldn't return since there are better B&Bs around.

What a find! This place lives up to the reviews. My husband I stayed a night here and it was so nice we will be coming back. The people at check in were helpful. They toured us through the entire Inn to show as everything (pool, spa, coffee bar).
We stayed in the Courtyard Room #9, the most inexpensive room type ($160, pre tax). It was nice, clean but VERY small. Especially the bathroom and shower. I'll mention the worst part (and why it's only 4 stars) here...we had to take COLD showers in the morning!
After check in (3:00) they have a wine and cheese happy hour from 5-7. They had 4 different wines, olives, different cheeses and pate, veggies and dip as well as chips and homemade salsa.
We were surprised to find out that a FULL breakfast was included in the price of our stay. You can sit inside or out and there is a menu as every place. Upon sitting they bring you a warm fresh muffin and fruit plate. The menu has 6 or so choices and you can get as much as you want! My husband had the fresh waffle with strawberries and bananas and bacon, I had eggs with homemade sausage and we finished with lemon crepes...as was DELICIOUS! This breakfast would have easily been $40+ out in town.
I hate to share this place but it's so wonderful EVERYONE should stay here!

This vintage hotel is a must if visiting the southern California coast. Adorned with beautiful gardens, I soon found myself meandering down stucco corridors and winding pathways.  Pausing briefly to glance through an overgrown archway or to enjoy one of the many bubbling water features dappled across the property. It seemed like around every corner I found myself climbing a staircase with an amazing oceanic vista. After making the ascent I would be constantly rewarded with a quiet corner and an inviting seat.

The cozy rooms are well appointed. Towels were always abundant and within an arms reach of the jetted tub. Spa quality soaps and lotions lined the wall above the sink. Q tips, makeup remover towels, and other bathroom necessities abounded as did a lighted shaving mirror that could magnify every zit and nose hair X 10. French doors welcomed you from the bath into the main room. A great fireplace was there when the storms from the pacific brought cold weather as well as a ceiling fan and AC for the typical Laguna beach weather. The room was spotless and continued to be well cared for by the staff my entire stay.

Every morning brought sun and after tasting the chefs food the first day an anticipation that only a crab stuffed rosti topped with a perfectly poached egg smothered in tomato hollandaise can bring. I was never let down as I made my way through the menu.

Paul and the staff were always available to call a taxi or make an appointment at the spa. They even hand delivered a document I was down loading and printing from the business center. They do have wireless but I had planned on escaping from the world so I didn't bring the laptop.

As I was laying around the pool soaking in the sun and gazing at Catalina Island I knew I had found a rare venue that I would be returning to and recommending to people for a long time to come.

This is perfect for a weekend get-a-way. That is exactly what we were looking for. So when we came across Casa Laguna we knew we just had to stay here. We stayed in the courtyard room. Our room was kind of small but cute. There was a slate smell but only noticed for a second. It didn't bother us during our stay. Our bed was very comfortable. The mattress molds to  your body. You will not want to get out of bed. The TV and DVD players needs to be updated. They are kind of old school. The bathrooms were small but it was fine. The bath products (shampoo, conditioner, lotion, body wash) were fancy and from London. I loved them and smells so good. The garden area was well maintained and had beautiful flowers. The pool was nice and was heated. It was nice and quite. Not too many people around. I thought this Inn was much closer to downtown Laguna. It was not walking distance to all the shops and restaurants. Parking spaces are too tight so if you have a large car/suv/van it probably won't fit in the parking spaces. To get to the parking lot you will need to go up very steep hill. Victoria Beach is walking distance from the Inn but be prepared to walk about 1.5 mile. Walking back sucked because it was uphill and there were many stairs to climb. Breakfast is served from 8:30-10:30am. It was very tasteful and was super fresh. Staff is very friendly and very accommodating.  We will definitely stay here again but will get a bigger room.

First rule: Don't stay here UNLESS you can book an OCEAN VIEW ROOM!

There is nothing worse than smelling the ocean, feeling the salt on your skin and not being able to see ANY of the ocean. None of it. Nada. Nunka.. *SOBBING*

Second rule: If you have any back issues or body issues, disabilities or you're just plain lazy.... Yea, this place isn't for you either.

It's a GORGEOUS mission-style Inn... on a nice BIG honking steep hill. That hill, that lovely mountain of a hill really becomes an issue when the minuscule parking lot is full and you have to park your rental on the side of the inn. Oh good God! You better hope your rental car has some excellent brakes.. Or you're going to end up with a pancake rental.

Third rule: You have to go try the breakfast! It's scrumptious!

It's complimentary and the atmosphere is fabulous.. BTW, the eating area DOES have an ocean view. A very nice one. The sparkling pacific ocean is the perfect backdrop for your breakfast dining experience. The smell of freshly baked scones and French bread drifts through the open hallways and corridors of the Casa Laguna. The service is polite and somewhat comical as they attempt to navigate around the local blond floor rug..

Yes, it's furry and very sexist. I am not being mean, so calm down! I am referring to the owners Golden Retriever. He loves, LOVES, LOVES women but is extremely NOT found of men. He kept snubbing my boyfriend, however mister picky Golden Retriever would run over to my every call and whistle. *Sigh* I loved that doggy..

Back to the dining experience... *ahem*.. Everything was served in a timely manner and delicious. I mean, lick your lips, lick your plate, find someone else's plate and lick theirs. Yea, a true success with your taste buds. You should probably also go find the chef and thank them. It's really that good! So, don't miss breakfast!! You'll miss out BIG time!

Fourth rule: Enjoy ALL the "small touches" that the boys have put time into finding or preparing for your room. They definitely want it to feel like a romantic get away. Even the bathroom has a small touch with a BIG result. They have included a magnified mirror. Let me tell you, there are some things that a person could go a life time without seeing on their own face! EEK! But, it's great for finding all those pesky eyebrow hairs....

So enough with the rules. Just go book a room with Casa Laguna.. Abide by my first rule and get an ocean view... unless you really don't want to see the water.. which is just weird. Oh and make sure your rental has good brakes and you have good stamina.

Minus 1 star for the parking problem and lack of handicap access.
4 stars for excellent service, comfort of home feeling and wonderful food!

I'm giving 3.5 stars, but erring on the stingy side due to personal experience.

This little place is fantastic on the outside.  The views are magnificent, enhanced by the nice little cushioned benches outside the uppermost rooms.  Every room is different, which adds a bit to the charm and kitsch.

I was with my fairy grandmother, who happens to not be particularly mobile at the moment.  There is not a room accessible without steps, not to mention the inaccessibility of the front desk.

My aunt sent me in to check-in...  BIG mistake.  Apparently you have to know which people will be in which room ahead of time (for security purposes).  The woman did not let me know that until after the 2nd time I'd run out to the car to see which of the 4 reserved rooms we were checking into.  The woman had no patience with me and was fairly condescending (along the lines of a "Why don't you let your aunt do this, little girl" without words).

The staff...  was incredibly friendly in passing.  I never passed an employee without a smile on their face.  All was well until breakfast.  The breakfast was delicious, and all would have been well had I not walked behind the curtain, so to speak.  I went to get a refill of my tea only to hear the staff OPENLY COMPLAINING about my table.  I nearly interjected, but saved it until we left and figured I'd just write it up here...  bastards.

So overall, saccharin-sweet employees and great views.  Just don't look too closely and all will be well.

Arrived late at night in the rain and parking lot was full so it was a hassle getting to room in the rain. Parking can be an issue. Room was small, very small! Some of the rooms pictured here will obviously cost you more than the base rate and it can get pricey to very pricey depending on the time of year. First night didn't know about breakfast but found out next day. I am not a big breakfast person but it is excellent as others have posted. Small but nice pool. Didn't like that the hot tub was for Spa customers only. Good location but a bit of a walk into town. Although I had a so so experience I want to try it again and would still recommend.

An absolutely must visit inn in Laguna Beach. Can't say enough great things about it. It's a mission-style architecture complete with old Spanish-style mosaics plastered on the walls. Everywhere you look are meticulously landscaped gardens and floral arrangements. The best ocean view is from the swimming pool up above the main lodge. But it gets better. A few steps up above another level is this semi-enclosed hot tub with flowing water. Looked like a large bowl designed for 2 people enclosed in a wrought iron gazebo. And throughout the hotel are little 'private escapes' for 2 people to either chat, read a book, or just lounge.

The staff is great, very helpful and very courteous. They also have an in-house gourmet chef that prepared our delicious breakfast every morning.

It's about a mile from downtown Laguna, so it's a bit of a walk to get to the main strip. But well worth it, because the strip can get really busy and loud with the traffic.

It's a little on the pricey side, but with what you get, I feel it's well worth it.

AMAZING PLACE! I just spent my honeymoon here over Memorial weekend. My husband and I stayed in the Newport Suite and the moment we left we already missed it. The room was perfect...bed was so comfy we spent most of the time in it. We loved our view of the ocean and even though we were right on PCH it wasn't that bad noise wise. The staff were very nice and I felt so welcomed the moment we got there. The breakfast was very yummy and sitting outside surronded by their greenary made the meal even better. Our stay at Casa Laguna was very relaxing, time felt like it stood still and the atmosphere was breathtaking. I can't think of one bad thing to say about this place. The suite we stayed in wasn't cheap and the Laguna Beach tax will bite you in the butt yet it was all worth it in the end. Highly recommended for a nice get away with a loved one. In regards to Rick's comment about the spa treatment...I was standing at the front desk when someone called about the spa treatment and I heard the employee at Casa Laguna explain the spa was just for the residents staying at Casa Laguna and she was helpful enough to suggest other local spas which I was surprised she even went out of her way to offer that. Rick, I hope you can check this place out again someday. This isn't any hotel - staying at the Casa Laguna, you feel as though you are in your own little world and if it got too busy with people it would take away from the quiet place it is known for.

My husband and I have been coming here on our anniversary for the last two years. Even though it's expensive and we can't afford it, even though arranging childcare is a total pain in the ass, we do it anyway.  We spend two nights in  this awesome oasis. The breakfasts are spectacular, the wine and cheese afternoons are awesome, and the togetherness spa package with the therapeutic soak is a must.  We only leave this place for dinner, and reluctantly at that.  Staff is friendly and helpful, library is equipped with DVDs for every taste.  If your goal is to unwind, relax, and forget the outside world, this is how to achieve it well.

This is an historic year for the two of us as it's the year we finally got married and what better way to celebrate this personal historic achievement with a stay at an historic Inn?  The Casa Laguna Inn & Spa treated us like special guests from the moment we checked in.  The front desk staff was bright, cherry and very helpful.  I couldn't decide what part of the property I liked better, the buildings or the gardens!  A note of caution for mobility-challenged guests:  The property is on a pretty steep slope and is historic...you're walking up and down hills and through narrow doorways to get around! The first building of the multi-structure propery is the beautiful, restored main building that felt a like a combination of a Santa Barbara mission house and a warm, cozy family room.  Outside, the gardens are spectacular!  The property hugs the hillside just up from Pacific Coast Hwy (PCH) and the Pacific Ocean.  The winding paths among the cute, terra cotta tile and stucco structures are literally bounding with gorgeous palms, begonias, ferns and all sorts of flowering plants.  I could have spent all afternoon exploring it all. The room (No. 6 to be precise) suited our needs well.  Though it takes up most of the floorspace, the white-draped bed looked comfy, but we had other plans for dinner first!  Did I mention that we felt like special guests?  The hotel owners had a perfectly chilled sparkling wine waiting for us in the room and it was delicious!  It was the perfect way to start off the culinary part of our celebration.  Admittedly a little tipsy from the wine, we went out to the gorgeous pool (and more gardens!) to enjoy the sunshine for a bit before heading out to dinner. With a little less wine in our systems, we headed for French 75, an almost-walkable distance from the hotel.  There we met amazingly nice people, savored delicious food and wine in a cozy, romantic atmosphere.  Three ladies celebrating a 60th birthday next to us even bought us our wine!  What a cool experience! Full of foie gras and more wine, we negotiated our way back to the hotel.  Thankfully, the bed was, in fact, as comfy as it looked!  In the morning we enjoyed the wonderfully large bath/shower and fancy bath products.  Having travelled extensively as a consultant for several years, I find myself making mental notes of which hotels have the best bath products.  It matters and these were good! After our shower we headed to the gardens (yay!) for breakfast.  Delicious!  I love breakfast in general and the Casa Laguna didn't disappoint.  We enjoyed fantastic eggs Benedict, fresh fruit and granola, sweet-tart fresh squeezed OJ and perfect, dark coffee.  Ahh... I think I'm definitely gushing in this review, but it was a magical experience for us both and I think we'll be back.
