FUCKING AWESOME. I can't wait to come back and stay here for longer. Casa Kenwood really made our visit to Austin that much better. We stayed in Studio Azul--couldn't believe we had the whole place to ourselves, to just watch VH1 Classic before bed, to blast our iPods while getting ready to go out, to read magazines, sip beers and make coffee in the morning. Not to mention the outside gardens....totally gorgeous with a swing, BBQ, chairs, hammock, all on the edge of a forest filled with fox dens. Peaceful as hell and perfect for your vacation state of mind. And the bed was extremely comfortable.
Andrew is really cool--if you don't know much about Austin, ask him a bunch of questions and he'll real talk you and tell you what's cool, what's a tourist trap, etc. He and his family also have really, really cool dogs who we loved and invited into our cottage and brought back bones for after each meal we ate BBQ. Teddy Bear is an angel who will love you like no tomorrow, and Larry is a calm soul with kind eyes.
Best of all, Casa Kenwood is a healthy 1 mile walk to South Congress, which is totally do-able and safe after a night of drinking, and a lovely way to start out each day. Highly, highly highly highly highly recommended. -

This unique and special place really provided the experience of staying in Austin as a local. The neighborhood was beautiful and quite convenient. We walked several times across the Congress Bridge to a lounge on 4th Street and it was 1.9 miles. The great shops on South Congress are just under a mile away. That said, if you're not a very active person the location may be a bit too far for walking, but cabs are quite easy to come by and of course, it is very driveable.
We stayed in Casa Azul and were very pleased by all of the attention to detail. It had the warmth of staying at a (much cooler, more stylish) friend's place while they were away. Instead of the sterility of a hotel room, there were touches like magazines, plants and kitchen items like coffee, sugar, etc. The backyard was lovely with plenty of places just begging you to sit and have coffee or a beer. I'm sad it was so hot while we were there because we definitely would have enjoyed that. The good thing is, the air conditioner works very well!
I dealt with Andrew throughout the reservation process and it was a breeze! They really allow you your privacy, yet make themselves very available if you ever need anything. We only saw them on the last day as we were leaving! This place will help create great memories for your stay in Austin and will be comfortable and inspiring as well. -

Stayed here last weekend. Excellent place, half the price of a hotel. Secluded yet really close to everything to do in Austin.
Came into town late on Friday night and could not find the place, the owner (Andrew) was nice enough to answer my call at 2 am and give me directions and not make me feel like an A-Hole for calling at 2 in the morning. -

quiet-hidden-private-awesome!
i thoroughly enjoyed my 4 nights here. saw the owner when i was walking up and he was very friendly but not pushy or quizzical. i hate pushy and quizzical.
the casa is behind the property and it is like a cabin/retreat with a beautiful view of the very green Travis Heights. it was extremely cold when i was visiting-like 40 degrees or something-but the heaters in every room kept me warm throughout my stay. you can't go wrong with this place. i promise.
+++it's also a stones throw away from the Chain Drive (Austin's answer to the leather question) -

I got back from a trip to Austin yesterday. We stayed at Casa Kenwood. Our stay was three nights in the Casita Roja for $95 per. I can't imagine finding a better bargain. I would recommend obtaining a car when staying here, but that goes for most of Austin.
Describing what you'll get here is actually a bit difficult. The easy word, the cop-out, would be to call the place "funky," but I'll try to do a bit better than that. What you're getting when you stay here isn't a pillow-top memory foam mattress, turn-down service, and heated marble floors. Instead, what you'll find is artistic, a bit tongue-in-cheek, at peace with nature, genuinely friendly, and above all, filled with little surprises that make you smile if you take a moment to notice them.
The guest houses are run by a local photographer and film-maker (copies of his movies are available for viewing in-room; he's behind the iconic picture of the Continental Club on S. Congress). From the blue christmas-light-rimmed arch you walk through as you enter to go around back to the cozy, bungalow style suite with bedroom, shower, and porch (closed up and with heater/insulation during the winter months) with kitchenette, you get a little bit of everything that I think of when I think of Austin.
From the hill the house is built on, you can look out into the woods for foxes, hawks, etc. The newly-redesigned waterfall provided a relaxing background noise and was audible from the porch in its closed winter mode. From the gravel path down the hill to the small statue hidden under an outcropping to the lights and local fauna, the grounds were replete with the small, whimsical wonder that I associate with the city.
The owner, his family, and his friendly dogs were perfect hosts. As we were arriving, he pointed us to some great local stuff, including recommending a beer store that my Austinite friends had been raving about. They were constantly, unobtrusively making improvements to the place, and I will look forward to using more of the outdoor space when I come back in warmer weather.
The Four Seasons, it ain't. But I truly have no idea why one would come to Austin with that goal. Instead of presenting a hotel that insulates you from your surroundings, Casa Kenwood is a great combination of immersing you in Austin while providing a perfect place to relax. -

Casa Kenwood was great. My husband and I stayed here for a weekend and had a wonderful time. The location is convenient. The details were nice. We loved the outdoor seating area. It felt private and comfortable. We will stay here every time we come to Austin.
