I stayed here in the 1st week of August for a friends wedding. I lived in Santa Cruz for 4 years, so I'm familiar with the beach area. However, my stay here at Casa Blanca was not the bizness! I gave it 2 stars only because of its location. The rooms were very quaint. The bathrooms were not that great...now I know its not a 4 star but that doent mean you dont have to keep the showers clean. We had 3 rooms and each room was rather different. Unfortunately, our bathroom was the worst and smallest out of the bunch. The thing that REALLY got me was their bedding! Our first night there we had to use tshirts to cover the pillows...and there were black stains on the sheets.
We didnt make a huge deal about it, but the next day they came to "clean" the room and when we went to bed that nite there was a red stain on our white comforter...EWWWW!!! We called them and they came down with more blankets (not down comforter) . I will NOT stay here ever again...but they do have a nice view of the beach, which is why they even recieved the 2nd star.
"NO ROOM FOR YOU. You were a problem on the phone & you are going to be a problem all night."
Please... keep reading:
We made the reservation on the phone 2 hrs before heading down. On the phone, we were asked for address, DL# & email for a confirmation #. Sorry- our computer is shut down, what's the # & we'll be there in a bit.
Showed up 2 hrs later... we again, were asked for address, drivers license, copy of drivers license, please sign & intial this large form that you won't destroy our hotel room. Wow- ok, so much stuff? Do you really need to copy the license too? Why do you need that? It's a law in Santa Cruz. "Wow- lots of identity theft?"
Then we get: "NO ROOM FOR YOU. You were a problem on the phone & you are going to be a problem all night."
We were asked to leave. OMG!! I'm a grown adult, clean, etc... & we were denied lodging. Well, turned out to be lucky for us. We found a place around the corner (Bay Front Inn).. were greeted with a smile, an awesome price! & walking distance to the wharf.

Wow, where to begin. I planned a romantic weekend here with my wife (both in our late twenties). We booked a room over a week in advance and got there at about 11 am on a Saturday and checked in. They told us our room wouldn't be ready till 12 so we left our bags and hit the boardwalk. When we got back to the hotel at 4, they were still checking in guests in front of us. We got up to the counter and they told us they'd found a plumbing problem in our room that morning that they couldn't fix and oh...they just checked out their last room to someone else.
After much complaining they agreed to call around to try to find us another room. They found one at a "very nice" motel up the street and gave us directions there. We went up there to find a bunch of broken down cars, a cracked empty pool, and a number of weekly special types smoking various substances while working on the cars. Great.
We head back to the hotel to explain that the room was not what we had in mind. While I call some other hotels one of the staff took my wife to look at a run down apartment that still had a pile of trash and a stained mattress in it from the previous tenants.
It's pretty clear to me that the hotel wouldn't have treated us this way if we were the older, sweater-draped couple checking in in front of us at 4pm. The whole experience was pretty surreal. We ended up finding one more open room at another hotel but it didn't have any windows. Or a bathroom. At that point we decided to just get in the car and drive back home.
At the end of the ordeal after much complaining they gave us a $50 gift certificate to their restaurant. (which we still haven't used because we never want to go back there). Thanks a lot. How about giving me my weekend back.
We drove up north on a whim, and stayed here because we couldn't find any other rooms under $200 (we paid $165 for a room w/ a double bed).
The rooms are teeny tiny and little sparse (tile floors), but man - you can't beat the location! You are directly across the street from the beach, and a few minutes walk from the Boardwalk and the Wharf. And there is great people watching from the Balcony.
Definitely not a frou-frou hotel, but a good, clean & safe place to stay in Santa Cruz if you want to be near the Boardwalk. Careful staying anywhere just east of the Boardwalk, parts of the "beach flats" neighborhood can be a little sketchy at night. Of course, if you're from LA then nothing in Santa Cruz can feel sketchy.
Excellent choice in Santa Cruz. Not cheap, but it seemed like with some of the other options nearby (for not much less) you were going to be stuck with no balcony. And a balcony was imperative to drinking some vino and watching the sunset on our night in Santa Cruz. The manager John was incredibly helpful not only in assisting with our many inquiries but to others guests as well. I mean the kind of helpful, cheerful attitude that makes you look twice these days because sadly, it has just become so rare. I'd give the place 5 stars if it weren't for an obnoxiously squeaky bed and the fact that our balcony was nasty dirty. It did the job I just had to keep my sandals on. There's a restaurant on site but we didn't manage to make it to dinner. BONUS: There's a computer in the lobby for you to yelp away the evening. Recommended.

very nice view of the boardwalk! i loved how you can hear the ocean as you sleep. the rooms are alright, the beds are comfy and it's close to the beach which was fun. however, for the price i payed i expected something a little bit nicer. i'd still go back though, even if it is just for the view.
