10 reviews for Carolina Roadhouse
This is a great restaurant that is part of a large family of restaurants including the Tarvern in Phipp's Plaza in Atlanta, as well as numerous other restaurants in Myrtle Beach and throughout the SE.
1. DECOR. It's a big open restaurant right off of 17 in the middle of Myrtle beach. The restaurant is bright, there is a lot going on and other than the fact that there is a smoking section (it is SC after all). We watched the NCAA Sweet 16 at the bar before being seated.
2. MENU. This is a classic american food restaurant. Fresh fish, everything grilled you could imagine, plenty of specials and a decent kids menu.
3. GIANT RIB. I ordered the Single giant beef rib and it was VERY GOOD. We're vacationing here for a week and I'll likely go back and get it again. Perfectly cooked, great sauce and good sides.
4. SPECIALS. My wife got the spice creole special and really enjoyed it. It was very, very spicy.
5. SALADS / STARTERS. We had dinner salads, my wife had the house dressing which she said was very good. We had peel and eat shrimp as an appetizer, which was good but nothing to write home about. She and my son both really enjoyed their honey bread.
6. KID FRIENDLY. We had our 22 month old with us and they were very accomodating (we were also there at 5 PM with the over 65 crowd). He loved his chicken strip meal and honey mustard and when he spilled stuff all over us they quickly boxed our entrees for us allowing us to finish off at home after we cleaned up.
Overall a great restaurant and great experience. Not only would we go back, but I'm going to go try some of the other places owned by this same restaurant group - it was that promising.
NOTE
I have Celiac disease and follow a wheat and gluten free diet. The wait staff was very knowledgeable and they produced a standard menu which indicated what items were GF and easy for me to eat. They were very knowledgeable and accomodating.
This is a favorite local restaurant on the beach, even though it's often jammed with tourists. They are famous for their baked potato soup and their honey-butter croissants are to die for. The only drawbacks are that it can be loud at times and it can be impossible to get a table during peak summer hours.
A friend recommended this place to me so I gave it a shot, realizing full well that most restaurants in Myrtle Beach aren't worth crap. I was surprised when I entered the restaurant to find it was the exact same interior as Boundary House in Calabash. I wondered if the two restaurants are owned by the same people. The interior is a nice wood, large open dining area, large bar off center with high ceilings. Restrooms are in same location & identical.
The menu looked similar to Boundary House as well. That's where the similarities ended. The house salad at the Boundary House is great. Not so at Carolina Roadhouse. I stayed with basic southern seafood on my entree with fried oysters and fried flounder. The food was quite good but when they bring out your entree on a smaller than typical plate, you know you've been screwed. I wasn't looking to gorge myself on a buffet and I wasn't looking for a "carry me out the door" feast, but their portions are ridiculous.
Myrtle Beach is a long way from Calabash, so perhaps it's a decent choice for that area, but believe me. This is not the Boundary House.
Everything about this place is great except for the wait to get a table and they don't take reservations! The prices were very reasonable and the food was delicious with large portions and extras like salad and warm croissants included. Service was excellent and professional compared to the other places I've been in this area. I will be back for sure!
Great restaurant. The food is pricey and most of the time you will end up waiting a while for a table, but other than that everything is excellent. It is a very open restaurant so you don't feel confined or stuffy. I go here every time I am at my place in Myrtle Beach.
Took my reps there last week while in town for a show. I had the oyster Po Boy, one rep had the shrimp Po Boy and the other had some kind of fish. We also had the onion rings as an appetizer. First off, service was great, we had Angel. The rings were good, not great, but they were hot and big enough for three of us to share. Having had Po Poys in NOLA I was not expecting much. However, my oyster PB was fantastic. The oysters were HUGE, juicy and fresh. My rep's shrimp PB was also very good. One of the best PB's I've ever had. They are very generous with the oysters and it filled me up. I tasted the fish and it was good as well. With not much choice of good food in MB, I can heartily recommend The Roadhouse.
This is another fav. They have one of the best hamburgers for the price in town, and they substitute steamed veggies rather than french fries without charging extra or even batting an eye. Large and noisy though, but many places are today. Just ask for a place away from the bar (and children too, if possible) to avoid smokers. Too bad that is still going on in these times!
3 in any other town, 4 in Myrtle. Cut to the chase, not a bad joint. We were looking for some sort of BBQ and found it. My husband ordered the baby back ribs, I ordered the beef BBQ sandwich. No complaints. We sat at the bar with families all around us (hence, sitting at the bar), the bartender was new but very, very nice and honestly interested in how our day and meals were going. The food was good, the atmosphere was fine and overall, I'd recommend it if you're trying to stray away from the likes of Chili's, Carraba's and a multitude of very scary looking seafood buffets.
Pretty big place. To be honest with you we walked in and sat at the bar and I really didn't look around too much but the decor was alright. The menu was pretty much a mix of everything from sandwiches to ribs. I got the Killer which was a hotdog topped with a pile of fries, chili and cheese. I honestly couldn't finish it and I usuallyl eat everything on my plate even if I get stuffed! My husband ordered the Beef rib which he liked it was a pretty nice size and it came with the bbq sauce on the side. Nothing special but nothing I could complain about either.

Let me start out by saying that this place is impressive. It is a log cabin style open plan restaurant which is very pleasing to the eye. There is lots of space inside and the tables are far apart from each other so you are not cramped in and forced to listen to someone else's conversation. The menu is your bog standard steak menu, not overly expensive with a few alternatives for those who are not meat eaters. You definitely need to look out for the honey croissants with the salad are to die for. My steak was cooked to perfection and the sweet tea was just like momma used to make it. So why only 3 stars,? Well I have to say that we had really bad service. Our waitress was having a bad day and she transferred that vibe to the table. So when the croissants came out they were delivered with a po face, I know this is nothing major but it was just enough to sour what was an awesome restaurant. When we asked for ketchup, we got that how dare you look, and when the ketchup arrived 10 minutes later our fries were cold. Now I should say that I don't think this was indicative of the place as a whole. All the other servers seemed to be very happy and pleased with their jobs, so I think we just caught someone on a bad day, but it was enough to ruin what should have been an enjoyable experience. Nevertheless, I would recommend this place wholeheartedly.
