Carolina Pops Orchestra
1 review for Carolina Pops Orchestra
This is one of the best things to happen to Greenville. The orchestra is run by professional musicians and the programming is designed to please the audience, not the conductor. Each concert combines light classical, show and movie tunes and symphonic rock. The last is a real treat, since two of the conductors are top orchestrators and have turned out some amazing arrangements of Jethro Tull, Rod Stewart, AC/DC and movie and show stuff, like Pirates and Wicked. (They performed the world premiere of the symphonic version of Wicked.) Each concert comes complete with lots of food, 2 drinks and all sorts of fun. The conductors love to dress in costume and surprise the audience. At the last concert in April--A Celtic Celebration--the conductor came as Rod Stewart, a leprechaun, one of Dexy's Midnight Runners, and a Scottish drum major. They had an Irish fiddle band, and a bagpiper and Irish dancers. Two audience members sang When Irish Eyes and the bartender (who used to be a Broadway actor) sang Danny Boy. Tickets are scarce, so I recommend acting quickly. They do 3 shows a year. Tickets are $50 or $135 for the season. Well worth it.
