I can't understand the way these reviewers have dissed this gym. No, I haven't had any billing issues, I admit, but they didn't give any of the positives. Friendly employees who know you by name, a huge variety of machines, several classes, cycling and yoga "on the side," a community feeling, and most of all, a very diverse clientele. This is very important to me.
I've never noticed any real cleanliness issues, and have never got sick after going to the gym as they supply plenty of antiseptic cleaners for the machines and hand cleaner as well. There's always plenty of soap & hot water in the locker room and the toilets are clean.
That said, the locker rooms are somewhat run down and they do have a pervasive odor -- probably due to poor ventilation. Easy solution. Minimize your time in the locker room. The monthly cost is very reasonable. As for billing issues, go straight to your bank or credit card company with any issues. (Cancelling an automatic withdrawal of any kind is tricky)
To me the pluses far outweight the minuses.
Their rating with the Better Business Bureau is a D+ if that tells you anything ( http://www.bbb.org/ral... )
I cannot convey how much I wish I could take back ever being a member of this gym. They are dishonest with everyone. And you will have a heck of a time getting them to stop drafting money out of your account even after your membership is over.
Their billing office (which you cannot speak to ever) is called Carolina Business accounting. And if you have any problems you can only leave them a message and then they will not call you back. I have watched numerous friends go through this problem and I have as well.
Do not trust this business.

I originally enrolled at Carolina Fitness for free due to a contract between the gym and my apartment complex. After management changed at my apartment complex, the contract was broken and we had to either pay or find another gym. Without hesitation, I signed a contract for a GREAT DEAL!
PRO:
-Extremely friendly staff
-Not crowded, no wait time for machines - even from 5p-7p!
-Good, solid equipment
-Plenty of treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, etc
-Large quantity of free weights/machines
-Great price
-Always open!
-Great location
CON:
-Equipment is aging - slowly upgrading
-Not super fancy (not exactly a con)
If you're looking for a great gym for a good price - check it out!
Cheap, usually plenty of machines. Often filled with meatheads and usually smells like feet. The joint is a veritable petri dish, but membership includes yoga classes and only one of the instructors is creepy. I'd join somewhere else but I'm lazy and it's only a few blocks away.
These people are crooks! Do not sign a contract with them - they will not stop drafting your bank account even after your contract expires and you cancel. And the bit about being able to cancel if you move is total hogwash. Good luck getting someone there to call you back about that. After being a good paying customer for 2.5 years, I canceled and had to dispute charges and stop payments to get them to stop stealing my money. Do yourself and your blood pressure a favor and pay the extra $10 a month and support the chapel hill Ymca. Not only do they have better equipment (like pool, indoor track), you will actually probably save money in the long run, because they're not crooks. In addition to all this , Carolina fitness's facilities suck - only one working shower in womens locker room, old falling apart weight machines, nowhere to stretch and do floor work, and buckets eveywhere to catch water from the leaky ceiling.
