You gotta love this place!  You eat in a f-ing train for f* sakes!  It's amazing how they converted a train from years ago to a hot dog restaurant!  It's super cute to eat in here because I felt like I was in a romance movie, minus the part where I was pigging out on my carney's hot dog with ketchup, mustard, chil dripping down the edges of my mouth!  I love to eat here because people will not judge you if you eat like slob!  Make sure you have plenty of napkins beside you while eating.

The service is good.  Service is good the moment they call you by your name instead of "Miss."  They have small restrooms which I think is pretty cute as well.

Carney's hot dog was delicious.

Institution or not, I have space in my heart for anything place that serves meat in a casing.  What's great about the dog is that you literally can hear and feel the snap when you bite into them... they remind of the Casper Dogs that I grew-up on in the SF Bay area.

My visit here consisted of ordering a trifecta of dogs that they are known for, the Carney, the New Yorker and the Chicagoan.

While I love the actual "hot dog", each of them has their own distinct accoutrements on the dog, and each of them is truly tasty and messy.

Of the three, I enjoyed The Chicagoan the best.  Though it wasn't a true Chicago dog, it was still filling and t-t-t-tasty tasty.  The bun needed the poppy seeds, and it was missing the pickle and peppers, but they do an ok alternative.

The New Yorker, I think was ruined by the over-abundance of the sauerkraut.  I love kraut as much as the next, but too much of it can throw off the entire balance of dog and kraut mixture when chewing and swallowing.  I still like the New York dogs off the carts better.

Finally, the Carney dog, while I applaud the appeasing look of it, at the end of the day, the chili really was a huge disappointment.  No real spice or flavor to it.  I don't mind getting down and dirty with a chili dog, but the chili has to be worthy and this one was far from it.

What makes Carneys a favorite among locals and visitors alike is the atmosphere.  Whether it is noon, 4 or 1am... the place is ready to serve up some unhealthy but worth waiting for bites.

Make the trip, the workers are friendly and overall the place is not a horrible place to stop and check-out.  Next time, i'll need to try the burgers everyone speaks of.  The fries looked fairly basic.

This is probably one of the few places where people wouldn't mind if they saw you licking your fingers.

That being said, I use napkins.

Anytime I head into LA just to eat I call it a Road Trip, no this is not a Road Trip place. But its a great back up if I'm heading for Pinks or Mel's and those plans dont work out.

Its another one of those places that you must enjoy the whole atmosphere. After all your eating in railroad cars Luv It #1 inside they have pictures on the wall of celebs and history of the place Luv It #2
Its on Sunset the people watching capital lol oh I luv to people watch
Luv it #3 The Food its Hot Dogs and Chili Fries and such Luv It #4
I always get a couple of Dogs and an order of Chili Cheese fries very good. I'm always happy with this.

Now saying all that, dont get me wrong I dont think the food is all that I do think its worth a 3.5 rating. But I do feel you need to look at the overall experience and thats what makes this place =)

I think I had my favorite chili dogs, or hot dogs, for that matter, here.

I was trying to find a better chilli than what is offered at Pink's and was pleasantly surprised to find even more flavor combinations. Definitely better chili, definitely messy. I think it has a more rounded, complex flavor, a better texture (which is to say Pink's serves something closer to a meat mush) and goes really well with its juicy dog and cheeze whiz. I also appreciate the chunky but consistent vegetable toppings and i thought it was the perfect amount for the dogs and bun.

Delicious french fries, and great, fresh, loaded YUMMY burgers too. And I loved eating on a train. That was sweet. It is open late, which is a plus - I need somewhere to eat after hitting up Viper Room.

Great dogs and burgers, CHEAP, free parking, fast.  Love it.

Thanks to some terrible service, I left another establishment on Sunset hungry on Friday night (see me last review before this one).  Zipped right on down to Carney's and the evening took a decided turn for the better.

If have to be dragged down to the tourist-saturated hell that is Sunset, I will return to Carney's.

Do you want onions? Why yes. Here you go. Well I didn't mean so much onions that I can barely see the bun let alone the dog but thank you.

Decent food. They get points for the railway car of course. They have a bunch of framed photos showing it being put in place and newspaper clippings (I think) explaining what it took to get it to where it is.

Not open late enough for being on Sunset. Midnight! Like every other eatery in this town, waaaay too early.

The lines at Pink's truly mystify me.

I don't even really like hot dogs, but I do like the Chicagoan (with chopped tomatoes) at Carney's.  I haven't tried anything else on the menu aside from the dogs--although the red hots kind of make me slightly queasy.  So I just stick with the regular dogs.  It's cheap, and there aren't absurdly long lines at all hours here.

If you find yourself cruising down the Sunset Strip in WeHo and hungry for some good affordable eats, stop off at Carney's. Sit down, relax to a nice juicy burger, a beer and a view of the Strip. Plus they are open very late on the weekends, so perfect for grubbing before or after a night on the town.

They have a simple menu of basically burgers and dogs with or without chili. I typically stick to the burgers without chili as I always some how find a way to get it all over me. Their burgers are still excellent without chili.

They have plenty of easy parking and you get to dine is a cool looking train car. Plus they have cheap domestic beers for $1.50 during Happy Hour,  which is M-F 4:30PM - 7:00PM

I enjoy coming here a lot as it is one of the best bang for you buck in this area of fancy hotels, cars and clothes.

I have to give this one a lower ranking than the other Carney's.. Mainly because while they offer up some amazingly good hot dogs and a pretty cheap enough price, they're still on the Sunset strip and by that very nature alone, that makes them pretty damn pricey.

If it's not out of my wallet in the form of money, the price factor kicks in when I have to waste so much time in getting past the Sunset traffic. Or have to deal with parking. Something that will always drive someone crazy.

But make no mistake about it, I love the hot dogs here. I love the atmosphere of eating in a train and I love the servings of food they give you. Just the very nature of it being on Sunset alone makes it just A-ok for my book.

I wont come here very often. if only because the sunset strip is a vast wasteland for all that is scary with L.A. traffic.

This place is a effin landmark. Any1 living in LA will recognize this place.

Been coming here since I was a kid and I like it more and more every time I go. Always get the Carny's with no tomatoes and chili cheese fries which are bomb. Never tried the burgers but I heard theyre great as well. Then I finish it off with a chocolate covered banana becuz we all know what kinds of food are shaped like dicks?? The best kind!

The place itself is cool cuz its a train!  Also fun to watch the traffic and everyone crusin down sunset. If you live in LA and haven't been here wtf is wrong with you?

Ok, here's the thing...

I'm a health nut.  99% of the time, I eat nothing but the finest, organic food, and even eat about 80% raw most of the time.

But there are certain places I will allow myself here and there, and Carney's is one of them.  Now, if they used organic beef, all natural hot dogs, healthy french fry oil, etc...I would give this place 10 stars, take the restaurant hostage, and keep all of you other folks out forever.

But alas, they use poor quality, as most places like this would.  However, you'd never know it.  Because whatever they do use, is so good it's a joke.

I mean, I NEVER order chili cheese burgers.  Here I do.  And as I even think about it, this protein shake to my left here is starting to eyeball serupticiously , knowing what my next move may be.

The fries are thin, and cooked to perfection.  I mean, not too soft, and not too overdone.  PERFECT.

Place is no frills, in an old choo choo train.  Pretty cool.  They deliver too.  And they deliver BEER! SCORE! Love this place, just don't make a habit of it!  Enjoy!

I like Carney's way better than Pink's.

if you're craving for a hot dog and cool atmosphere, go down Sunset, Carney's is it. You can order your food and eat it in a train cart that was dragged half way around the country.  And it takes you a shorter amount of time to order and eat than it would for you to stand in line at pink's.

It's a fun place, and kid friendly.

Carney's is located right on the Sunset Strip where $12 cocktails and $8 beers are all too common.  But you won't find any of that nonsense in this old traincar turned divey haven.

The Monday happy hour special is a deal that cannot be contested.  For $4.53 (including tax), between the hours of 4-7pm, you can get a cheeseburger with the works and all the fixins, a serious helping of fries, and a domestic draught or bottled beer.  The burger is grilled to perfection with the cheese placed on top for perfect melting.  They also press the bun on the griddle for that great toasted texture and flavor.

The sheer amount of food they give you for the price is enough to make this a frequent haunt for any burger lover, however, their burger and fresh fries are so delicious that you may find yourself wanting to cough up a few extra bucks into the tip cup.

If any of this isn't enough to make you pay a visit to Carney's, they also feature outside picnic tables right on Sunset for great people watching any time of the day.

Headed over here after my friends and I were pummelled by the sensory overload that is the Saddle Ranch.  It was a wise move: good prices, pretty good food, and a low-key atmosphere.  I had the Chicagoan dog and a Pepsi, and was surprised that the dog seemed a little thin.  If it's Chicago-style it should be pretty hefty, right?

Asked the guy at the register what they had in the way of desserts and he handed me a Blue Bunny ice cream sandwich.  So, not much invention there.

Ambiance is kind of divey and cool, and it's a good place to sit and chat, though everything feels a little narrow (you're in a train car, after all).  If there's a wheelchair ramp somewhere around back, I didn't see it.  I imagine wheelers would have a difficult time navigating the narrow spaces.

I have been going to Carney's since I was a little kid. I even had them grill in my backyard for my high school graduation party. When asked what I would eat for my last meal, Carney's Chili Cheeseburgers is part of that meal. Although their burgers are almost exactly the same as Tommy's and a little more expensive, the train and memories make it worth the extra $$. If you go to Carney's do not get just a regular burger or Hot Dog, you must get a Chili Cheeseburger with everything on it. If you are going to get a dog, you must at least get a Chili Cheeseburger or Chili Cheese Fries to go along with it. I only have one complaint and that is that the Sunset location closes at 2am on Fri and Sat. The bars close at 2, so I think they should at least stay opened till 3am, as that is a peak Chili Cheese time for Sunset bar goers.

This is a really fun hot dog/burger joint. It's in an old train car. I take my preshooler when we visit his agent down the street and he looks forward to it. Very clean and all food handlers have certifications. It's located across from The Standard Hotel and you can pick up their wifi. They also serve beer and wine, and are open til 3 am on Friday and Saturday nights! To save a buck and change it up come here for a few beers and cheap eats then head over to The Standard. The chocolate covered bananas have loads of chocolate if you get a fresh one. Lots of veggie options. Large parking lot.

With a name like Carney's I was hoping there was a bearded lady flipping my burgers and midget clown taking my order because at least then it would take my mind of the ordinary food.

Needless to say I was a little disappointed after eating at this place.  The food was nothing more them mediocre at best and indeed "I've experienced better."  In fact the only good thing about this place is that you get to eat in a big yellow train, they have beer, its open 24/7 and it was walking distance from the Comedy Store where a friend of mine had performed earlier in the night.  In retrospect even though my friends and I were starving I think we would have passed on this place if in the same situation.

The prices were decent for my dog with kraut and chili fries but the serving size was nothing to rave about.  IMHO I think I'd rather wait in line at Pink's or stop by a Tommy's even though it might not be much better you get better bang for the buck and occasionally there I do meat a lady with rather hairy facial features =x

I was a little disappointed that upon my visit, the restaurant was out of  Red Eyes (polishes).

I ordered the signature Carney's Hot Dog and fries.

It is a nice alternative when Pink's is super busy and crowded. Better than Tommy's.

The hot dogs aren't are massive as those at Pink's and Tommy's. But still good tasting.

The fries are pretty weak though. I won't order the fries again. They reminded me of the stiff frozen fries from elementary school.

This place has got to be your best bang for your buck on Sunset.  We ordered 2 Heinekens, 2 burgers, and chili fries for about 20 bucks.  Everything was pretty good and totally hit the spot.  Not the best burger I've had but I would eat here again.

Also, the decor is super cute and the service was great.

If I'm ever hungry on Sunset, I will be here.  Would I make a trip for it though, probably not.

A very good place for hot dogs and burgers, etc. with chili smothered on whatever you like--your dog, your fries,  your leg, your lady's breasts, whatever.  The chili doesn't have the same spicy "kick" as the other fast food joints in town, but it's a thick, brown sludgy paste (doesn't that description sound appetizing?) which  has a good flavor and is still very satisfying.

You can also order other "fancier" items off the menu, but I'd like to meet the guy who orders a green salad or pasta primavera at Carney's just to see how crossed his eyes really are.  Bonus:  They serve cold beer and that, with a spicy chili dog on a hot day, will really hit the spot (note to the 19 other idiot Yelpers who indicated they serve no booze--not true!).

The restaurant is located insideold train cars perched above Sunset Boulevard and you can either sit inside and watch the fancy cars on the street below cruise by (or crawl by-depending on the hour), or you can watch the same scene on the outside patio down below closest to the street.  There is also free parking behind the restaurant and that's a huge plus right there.

Finally, beware the aggressive panhandlers if you dine outside--they may actually be sporting heavy pans in an attempt to redistribute your wealth from you while you dine.

Cool little train on Sunset Strip.

I Always hit this place on Monday Night before Open Mic'ing @ the Comedy Store. Sometimes on Sundays also.

I dig the place, it's unique, food is average, outdoor and indoor seating, service is quick, and the guy at the register speaks English.

On Mondays, the after work special gets you a beer, fries and burger for like $4...nice!

I was pretty let down when I found out we were to eat in here.  My friends and I actually parked and walked past carneys and thought how funny it would be to eat in here.  (funny only because it was my friends birthday and we had different plans....any other time I would be totally down to hop in)  Then we found out the wait at the place we were supposed to be at was insane soooooo we walked on back to Carneys.  I love the fact that it's a train car! and you can eat inside or outside on the numerous picnic tables.  They also have a wide variety of food.  My group got anything from a burger, hot dog, chili cheese fries, speghetti, and i got this salad w.bowtie pasta YUM! really it was great.  Plus there are lots of people but theres not much of a wait for a saturday nite in w.hollyy.

OOH omg they have chocolate covered bananas!!! HELLO my fav....but to bad we were short on time and I was full as heck to run back in and grab one...but I saw this girl walking out with one and I felt a twinge of jealousy hhahhaha next time Carney next time!

Beats any chili in the LA area. Went here a couple of years ago after a night at the House Of Blues. Perfect for after a night of drinking if you ask me. If you're curious about the chili. Go in and ask for a taste. They will give you a sample. That is what i did and man i have been in love with it ever since. I don't even go to tommy's . . . i had a bad experience. Haha.

Alright, now i am craving it. On my way there right now.

The food was pretty much how I expected it. A big juicy hamburger smother with mayo, mustard and some veggies, and tasy chili cheese fries...all of which left me feeling extremely full and a little bit disgusted! The fresh lemonade (although they have tiny sizes) was a nice surprise!

Wasn't crowded at all late on  Wednesday night, except for a large party of bikers! The service was fast and we had a nice view of the Sunset strip sitting at one of the tables outside. The only thing I missed out on was the choco-covered banana! Dinner for 2 (sharing a drink and fries) was $12.
