Woof it! Woof it good!
Have loved the Carmel Valley Lodge for years now.... the nicest dog friendly place and they even extend a warm paw to my beasts.... who are not of the "small dog" variety either at a respective 80lbs each..  The rooms are a litle run down (supposedly, and sadly, there is a condo conversion on the way, or so it looked like that way in the lobby with the signage and drawings on the easel)., but the place is low key and relaxed.  They even looked up the number of the woman who painted the picture of their dog Lucky in the lobby- very cool.   I love the pool area which has a large clean pool, chaise lounges and small spa.  You are usually rolling with other dog people here who don't mind a drooly smile or wagging tail....Carmel proper is beautiful, but can be foggy in the summer months, so head to the Valley and enjoy the warmth of the sun....
Check ouf Corkscrew Cafe, you can actually walk to it, as well as Earthbound Farms (now in their 25th year) on the way into Carmel Valley.

They are upgrading the rooms and trying to sell them off as condominiums, which the new "owners" are expected to rent out to weekenders like us when they are not living there.  Like the 49er condos at Mammoth.

They have done away with breakfast, Monday thru Fridays.  They ended the free newspapers.

astonishing.. simply astonishing.  I have a lot of love for this place, especially as it is dog friendly.  It has ADORABLE grounds, a great pool, a private parking area in back perfect for playing with the pooch, with great grounds.  They have a great continental breakfast as part of the rate, offer smores in the room by the real wood burning fireplaces.  The rooms need updating.. this is obvious.  Very quaint, minimalistic rooms, but they *are* large.

The staff is incredible.... very accomodating, very friendly, and consummate community members.  They have helped me out of a jam twice now, in regards to needing to cancel last minute.  They were compassionate, understanding, and totally gracious.  Their attitude and approach to business will keep *ME* coming back, and sending other their way.

Thanks (written moments after a last minute cancel because my lady's sis is sick and the family can't get down there.  Why would I go with my inlaws to Carmel during Valentine's, AT&T, *and* President's Day weekends?  I am not totally sure.  But C'est La Vie!)

Carmel Valley Lodge is a very nice place.  The grounds are beautiful and the people are extremely friendly.  The rooms are a little old school but are being updated.  The updated rooms are spectacular.  The best thing about CVL is that my dog is welcome.   I got a room with a fireplace and it was a nice perk.  The newer rooms have gas fireplaces which turn on with a flip of the switch.  Some rooms are complete with kitchens. Fancy!!  The breakfast is nice and it is very close to shops and restaurants.  If you stay here check out the Fish House for dinner.

We love it at Carmel Valley Lodge! Both times we were booked for a single room with a king-sized bed and they bumped us up to a fire-place room, which we really think is neato. For Carmel, their prices are decent (we usually can budget for one night at about $175/night). Even though it seemed as if all the other guests had at least one dog (if not two or three), we had a quiet stay and our room was clean and pet-dander free. My husband is actually allergic to dogs and he had no reactions. This last trip we particularly enjoyed playing ping-pong, horseshoe and using the hot tub. I also appreciate that each room has its own mini-fridge and coffee maker (the coffee provided in the room is awesome and even trumps the coffee they provide at  the complementary breakfast).  If you want to go away to Carmel and stay in a peaceful accommodation try Carmel Valley Lodge.

I have so much love for this place- I don't even know where to begin. First things first: my friend got married at Holman Ranch last year and this was one of the hotels she chose to have her guests stay at. She also stayed there every night except the wedding night. It was so great to have all of the wedding party and families together, at the same hotel and the Carmel Valley Lodge was overly-accommodating for us. A few things I love that are definitely worth mentioning: 1. Pet Friendly- we have a kitty who is three years old and has become quite the good little traveler. However, sneaking her into this hotel and that has proven to be a bit difficult at times. CVL not only allows pets, they welcome them. People don't generally travel with their cats but our little one loved the room and was kept quite busy watching all of the birds and squirrels play in the trees and on the grounds. 2. Video Library- This place is definitely a little dated in that they don't have on-command movies but what's great is that they have a video library in the main office that you can come grab movies from because all of the rooms have a VCR in them. It was great to come home after the wedding, already exhausted, and just zone out to an old flick. I like that this place truly goes for the "home-away-from-home" feeling and I think they accomplish it rather nicely. 3. Smores in the rooms with fireplaces? Um...awesome! Literally, you get a bag with some marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate squares next to your fireplace- it's such a fun and somewhat romantic little touch- I loved it! (And my husband did as well, seeing as how they replenish it daily!) The Carmel Valley Lodge has really pretty grounds, open rooms with a few different layouts to choose from and their staff is super friendly and eager to please. I stayed there because I was part of the wedding party and it was the hotel of choice but I will definitely be returning on my own, just to have a little peace and quiet in an adorable little spot!
