So I came from California to visit a friend and he insisted I try this place!! So as far as diner's go, this is a true diner. There are so many Johnny Rockets type mock up diners now, it was nice to get the real thing. So I have not been to many diners, but as far as what I think a roadside diner should be, this is it! Totally cheap and get more food than you know what to do with..

I went twice on my trip and well, I could not help but have the same thing twice. I had the shaved steak omlette, and it was awesome, I could not see my plate! This is truly a place to go if your really hungry and your not planning on any type of healthy eating. This place pulls no punches. Order of bacon and you get 8 strips??!! What!! That in itself is awesome! Most places give you 2 if your lucky. Wobbley built in bar stools only add to the compact  place, and go during peak time and expect a possible wait...If they changed it, it just would not be the same.

Forget paying attention to detail in this diner, there are just random funny products displayed around the place. The staff was super friendly both times, even recognizing me and my friend the second visit, having a conversation with us while scooping the wad of butter onto the griddle, and the thick Bostonian accent sprinkled with F bombs just made it feel like I was truly amongst the natives..If you finish be prepared , they will ask if your  sure you don't want more. If I had more, I would have  been carried out...This place was just fricken wicked awesome!

Carl's Oxford Diner- A review by S.Osper

Okay, I know I will probably get some hate for the two star rating. But let me state that this is just my opinion and I have nothing for or against this establishment. Carl's Oxford Diner is a corky little diner near the Charlton/Oxford line. This place serves huge portions of foods for a remarkably low price, which is good if you think on the system less for more. But, I just think it tastes bland. The bacon is very good I will state, but the pancakes tasted like flour.

Another problem is the seating. You have a peninsula bar for people who want to eat up high, and you have a few areas that are high off to the side, there is a separate dining room but it is small. I wish the bathroom was in the same building but it is not that big of a problem.

I can't continue this review. I really don't know. You either really like it here or you hate it. This is a place I wish I liked, but sadly I don't. I would recommend trying it, however, because yo may just find that you really enjoy it.

Husband dragged me here after seeing it featured on Phantom Gourmet.

Negatives:
VERY cramped, not much seating and no waiting area
On the greasy/sticky side...not the cleanest place
Have to go outside to use bathroom
They wash the dishes right in front of where you are eating.
French toast a little soggy/mushy

Positives:
Large portions (ordered 2 eggs, and got 3)
Reaaallllly good bacon
Friendly, charming waitstaff that seem to grow on you over the course of the meal

I loved this place. I read all 10 reviews before writing...We had excellent service and food. Now, I am a "foodie" when the context is appropriate...but this is diner good, not gourmet. This is an excellent diner. Food and portions are ridiculously large....um...I got *9* pcs of bacon with my order (did not order extra; that's just how it is!) I think my meal was 6$ and change...woah! Thier cheesy eggs were yummy with melted american cheese, and homefries are yummy.  Iced coffee wasn't bad!

Doggie bag in fridge waiting for tomorrow!

Bf''s waffles looked delicious and beautiful with strawberries and whipped cream!

As some other experienced, I did not feel that this place was dirty or that the food was greasy...it is a diner.... not a posh place in the south end (which is wonderful too....)

My brother and dad were raving about this place so we drove over an hour here for lunch two days ago. We first were going to sit at two separate tables but they have seating in the back room too.

I walk in and I read the menu and my first thought is "Wow, it's $4 extra for any side of meat." That's a little pricey until you see that you get 12 pieces of bacon plus some potatoes. I'm vegetarian but this was heaven for my meat-avore brother. This was the perfect side to his five piece of french toast that he demolished.

My dad got the omelet with shaved steak. More appropriately it should be a small cow covered with a tent of eggs, with a farm of potatoes on the side. It wasn't actually a small cow but it was a ridiculous portion. They must use a least 5 eggs and there were at least 3-4 potatoes plus all of the shaved steak made the omelet stick up over half a foot from the plate.

My mom and I got the pecan waffles and we should have split it! They were each two huge Belgium waffles with chopped pecans topped over. The only downside was that they put literally a half cup glob of margarine on the top of the waffles. Just a huge dollop that overpowered all of the maple syrup flavor with buttery-taste spread flavor. If they could switch that to real butter, I would give them 1 more star.

You would never know this place was here but if you do, you're lucky! I would definitely come back because the portions here are amazing and the food is pretty good too.

A dear friend of mine took me to this diner because of 2 reasons...#1 all time reason is because I LOVE breakfast and #2 is I am addicted to great diners for their breakfasts.  Carl's is right up there.

It's not so much the food as is the atmosphere here.  The locals that seem to visit or should I say live there every morning are very colorful as is the owner and omg those waitresses!!!!  What a HOOT!

I heard about the counter claim of piling on more food so we opted for the tables out back.  Very quaint and well very out back there.  I ordered up coffee, 2 eggs, home fries and toast.  What I got was at least 5 eggs, a plateload of home fries and at least 4 slices of toast.  They also threw in about 12 slices of bacon on top of it all.  My mouth fell open and I knew I was in breakfast heaven.

My friend ordered ham and eggs with home fries and toast....He got 2 huge slabs of ham, about 5 eggs and well...you all know about the bacon and home fries......

I have no idea how they do it!  But I love to go back when I have had a night of partying and I need tons of food for the hangover cravings.  Thumbs up Carl!! Keep on piling!!!!

OMG, so full!

The boyfriend and I trekked 1.5 hrs to Carl's and it was totally worth it. Even for a Thursday afternoon, the place was pretty full and we waited a minute before grabbing two stools at the end of the counter.

Despite knowing that the portions were ridiculous here, we both ordered omelets (sausage/mushroom/cheese and the kielbasa western) with homefries, wheat toast, and a side of bacon.

Holy heart attack, Batman! So yummy. The plates were loaded with some of the best diner food I've had. No, it's not fancy, but anyone who goes into this place expecting otherwise isn't very bright. It's a classic local greasy spoon with good, honest, food at low prices. The staff was friendly, funny, and fast and we tipped them accordingly. Our enormous omelets, 9-strip side of bacon, and two drinks was just over $25. Can't be that, even if the drive there was a long one.

Sat at the counter (not too many seats in this joint, it's a real Worcester diner - counter and a few seats against the front window) Exterior renovation but the inside seems pretty original.
I looked at the other plates of food around me and my breakfast date, and made a snap decision that it might be best to order one omelet and split it. A pastrami and cheese omelet... mmmm sounds good!
Soon there was a pile of pastrami (maybe 1.5 lbs or so) and what looked like 6 or so large eggs on the griddle right in front of us. Ok, a couple of other folks must have had the same idea as us and ordered the pastrami omelet (i mean, it's a no-brainer, right?)
A minute or so goes by and the rather gruff cook man-handles the mound of eggs and pastrami, throws it all on a plate, and drops it in front of us. We looked at each other in absolute disbelief.

This can't be...... It was.

I am not kidding when I say that we both ate our faces off and COULD NOT FINISH. I was almost embarrassed. We took a doggy bag!
Food insanity.
It was actually very tasty as well, home fries and toast above average, great service, good coffee, great atmosphere.
Don't know if I'll ever be in Oxford again, but if that fate full day ever comes, I'll be back to Carls for sure!

I used to go here for breakfast while skipping early classes at high school... went back several times since school and once on a recent visit back to the East Coast. The quality and quantity of the food has not gone down at all in the years.

I've only sat back at the tables once, but the helpings were still really big. It might feel a little "cleaner" back there, for those of you who are not down with Diner style establishments.

They WILL gladly give you more food if you still look hungry or finish something on your plate, at least while you sit at the counter.

They've been very pleasant and funny on all my visits.

Deff a place to go if your looking for Quantity over Quality. I agree with some of the other reviews, stating that to food is good but the cleanliness is a bit questionable.

Good place to go if your really hungry for breakfast!

3.5 stars but comfortable with rounding up here. I'm surpised at how many reviewers are so worried with the cleanliness here, get over it its a busy diner they do their best. If you go on a weekend prepare for a bit of a wait as they are very busy and seating is limited. The portion sizes here are absolutely huge making the value for money here pretty darn good. It's just great all American diner food done right, not much more to say than that.

Great place to go for a greasy breakfast.  Sit at the counter and if you finish your plate, they'll plop more food on it for you.  Good if you're in the area, but probably not worth a special trip.

I've yet to see anyone finish all of their food at Carl's Oxford Diner. It's a great place to go if you're looking for quantity over quality. The food isn't bad. It's just not great. But for the price, I really can't complain.

Tip: if you're not that hungry, just ask for a kid's meal.

WE drove out to Oxford for breakfast, after serching for one with good reviews.  We love diners, love breakfast - this was one of the nastiest places we've been in a long (60yo) life.  What part of lots of really cheap food, drowned in dirty grease that leaves black spots on the eggs and potatoes is appealing?  There was dirt on everything, from the phone to the eggs to our table- the kind witih that rancid smell and layers of dust embedded.  There were drifts of broken egg shells crunched under the cook's feet, and not just from that day's service either.  On the bright side, anytime we have a bad breakfast, we can say "Well, at least it wasn't as bad as Carl's"!
