The Carleton Grange opened in 2006 on Milwaukee's south side. It is a take on a modern English gastropub, by former London residents. The carelton grange has twenty-four beers on tap and they are served in either american pints or a traditional imperial pint (20oz.). The beer selection is great, leaning predictably towards good and hard to find British brews.

The is one of the few places in the U.S. that I have been that serves traditional British fish and chips with honest to god chips, not french fries passed off as chips by someone whom has never been to Britain. It is also a great touch that every table is stocked with malt vinegar, a traditional British condiment.

I have been a regular since the Carleton Grange opened in 2006 and everything that I have had here is good. However recently the menu changed. The appetizer options have changed, the fried cheese curds (a favorite) were removed and there are no longer any appetizers under the $7 mark. The prices have steadily increased since the opening three years ago and the portions are now merely large instead of eye poppingly huge.

In the summer I would recommend taking full advantage of the phenomenal patio.  Lot parking can be a little tricky, you can pretty much count on parking on Packard, but since there are no other business in the area, street parking is readily available.

All-in-all, the location is a little out of the way, but the destination is worth it, if you are looking for authentic British pub fare and a little good cheer.
