I am in LOVEEEE with Cardio Barre!! It is my Favorite workout by FAR. I grew up as a dancer and danced in high school and for a couple years in college, and have always struggled to find a workout that I truly enjoy. I've had personal trainers at 24, taken kickboxing, zumba, and bikram yoga, and although those classes were fun, none were comparable to my experience at cardio barre.
I originally was referred by a friend and went to their customer appreciation class and LOVED it! The teacher played fun upbeat music, and made every student feel important. The class is full of movements that trim and tone your muscle without any that are high impact. (Especially great because I have bad knees from running treadmills all these years.) Then I purchased 10 classes through Living Social and fell in love with this place even more. It is awesome because I've tried over 3 different teachers there, and each teacher's class differs a bit, but all are still challenging, effective, and fun. I really love how the teacher's emphasize correct form, because it really helps with building muscle in the right places and with preventing injuries. I just finished my 10th class and am going back in tomorrow to purchase a set of 10 more! Plus, you know a workout is truly effective when each time you get back from class your bf comments on how much tighter your body looks! =)

Although I truly enjoy this workout because it reminds me of the dance classes I loved as a child, I have  referred multiple friends here who do not have dance backgrounds, and they too agree that this is the MOST enjoyable workout they have experienced. I have a couple friends that drive down from Walnut, which is a good 45 minutes away, just to take class!

    * Keep in mind, as a new customer the first few classes will be challenging, as with any new experience, but keep with it and you won't regret it!

Solid 3 stars because 1. I don't think this workout is for me and 2. Class schedule could be revamp. It is a decent workout and I feel challenged (i.e. the BURN) in all of my classes even the intro class.

My favorite instructor by far is Micki. A. She is TONED and a great motivation. B. before the class starts, she actually ask whether anyone has any questions and go over some of the more confusing moves. C. She is tough. She will yell at you of you mess up right and left so concentrate.

In general, I find the classes to be like spastic ballet moves when ballet moves are meant to be done in a slow and controlled fashion. I understand that it is cardio but I don't think it is particularly good for my joints and it does not take me to a endorphins charged place (my happy place). I like the burn but personally I feel like I should concentrate an hour to strength training and an hour to cardio instead of doing cardio barre and hope that it really does kill two birds with one stone. Again it is a personal preference.

I choose to go to the 5:30pm beginner classes because I like that there is not another class right before me and I don't feel the heat and sweat still radiating from the carpet from the previous class. They need at least a 15 minute gap between classes. It will help with the parking situation and people get a chance to fight for a spot before the class begins.

Glad I got to try it and thanks for working my buns. However, I don't love it enough to come back after my 10 classes.

Like many others I came here on a Living Social deal.

First of all, like most other reviews the front desk chicks arent that friendly and welcoming. They dont really help you unless you walk up to them and they definitely dont great you.

Parking here is the absolute WORST! There is no lot so you got to try to find street parking. The class always seems packed and its a residential neighborhood so be prepared to walk a few blocks.

I came to the beginner class with my friend. We hadn't been to the gym in a bit but figured its beginner they will go slow and teach us.

There was no stretching, no warm up, no nothing. She began teaching the class before the entire class that just wrapped up was able to exit. It felt tottally rushed. Everything was super fast paced, no patience to help others learn - it just felt so rushed that I was trying to catch up half the time.

The instructor was also a bit too assy grabby for me. I understand that she was trying to help me adjust my body correctly but I dont need you to pinch my hips/waist, poke, grab, touch and lay on my ass - thats just not necessary and completely made me uncomfortable.

But beyond all that - the work out itself is tuff but really good. I was huffing, puffing and dripping sweat in the first 20 minutes. I definitely think there are things they can change about the customer service and the program itself but over all not too bad.

Dont know if I would ever pay full price for these classes though.

i am upping it a star as after i finished my 10 classes, i do have the hang of it, (not that i can actually fully keep up with all the older and even fatter ladies in the class, but that's partially due to my own un-athleticism...) if you are a true beginner and not just a bored housewife/ex-dancer that hits the beginning class because it fits into your schedule, i recommend trying to go to one of Demian's classes. Out of the 4 or 5 teachers i went to, he was the only one who gives you any personal attention to correct the wrong way you are doing things, and all the female instructors tend to mumble into to the wireless mike so you can't really understand half of what they're saying over THE AWFUL music that blares (but i think this is true of all workout music on earth?), and they seem too concerned with their own workout/showing off to really help those of us less fortunate, though i've noticed them occasionally helping some students that are just a little bit off form, but they prob thought i was too far away to bother with a lost cause? Anyways, you will sweat, you will burn, you will circle for parking, good luck!

The good: This is really an effective workout.  I've been coming for about 9 months and have seen a  big difference in my body.  Even after all this time, the workouts continue to be challenging because there's always room to do more, push yourself further.  instructors are motivating (I've tried them all) and great at fine tuning my movements to help me get the most from my workout.  It's also fun!

The bad: When Cardio Barre offers Groupon-type deals, the classes get ridiculously full.   As a previous post put it, it feels like a zoo!  The instructors are less available and it's just more chaotic.

    A few suggestions:
First, to those who say things move too quickly and there is no instruction:
There is a weekly Intro class, which is meant for first timers.  I often see first timers in my advanced class thinking the class will slow down for them, which isn't fair to the rest of us.  Even the beginning class moves quickly.  If you can't follow and that frustrates you, please take an intro class!

And now to Cardio Barre: PLease consider spacing your classes (like they do at the Bev Hills location).  These reviews show that many people are fed up with parking, and that would go a long way to helping that problem.  We have every right to park in the neighborhood, and I don't mind politely saying so to anyone who gives me a hard time, but it would just help avoid frustration on everyone's part.  And please consider offering more classes during Groupon-type promotions.  You're driving away a lot of your regulars!

This review is based on the customer service I received while trying to redeem a Groupon.

I purchased a Groupon for $39, good for 10 classes. Immediately after purchasing my Groupon, I had badly injured my ankle and was advised not to do any type of exercise.

Unfortunately, my Groupon had expired before my ankle healed. I sent an email to Cardio Barre requesting that they honor the $39. I received an email back stating that they would not. ? I was not asking for the same deal of 10 classes, I was simply asking to use that $39.

Per Groupon, "When a Groupon expires, customers can still redeem for the price they paid for the period of time defined by state law." Under CA's gift card laws as stated on the CA Department of Consumer Affairs website, gift cards NEVER expire. Meaning, the $39 I paid should have been honored to use towards Cardio Barre services.

Cardio Barre, please educate your employees or have them do simple Google searches before they bark a rude "NO".

This place is undeserving of 1 star. I would put - 5 if I could.

My friend has been trying to get me to go to Cardio Barre for a while now, and I finally ran out of excuses.
I had to drive all the way to Eagle Rock, but at least I did it and she cant bug me about it anymore.

My experience was ok. I gave it 4 stars bec the instructor was really enthusiastic about her job and made it a little more fun.

The smell is what turned me off the most. Ugh, jut disgusting. Ok, I understand the smell of sweat, but at least do something to cover it up!
The studio was a bit too tight for my liking, and there were way too many people around for me to feel comfortable, but when I got into the groove of things it wasnt so bad.
At the end of the class I cant say I didnt get a good work out. I know how much out of shape I am now thats to this class, and I took the beginner one!

    I AM IN LOVE!

Cardio Barre is my dream workout for two main reasons: 1) I simply want to tone and maintain my current body shape/size and 2) I'm an asthmatic....spasmatic, high energy workouts can potentially kill me! :) LOL.

The Eagle Rock location is a stone's throw from wear I live in Pasadena and they even have a couple awesome evening classes! I definitely recommend Cardio Barre, it's great for everyone whether you've never danced a day in your life, are still dancing today or if you've retired your point shoes and simply want to get back in shape.

The classes are very affordable at $16 per class (you can cut a few bucks by signing up for one of the package dealas).
P.S. Besides the fact that Cardio Barre is an amazing workout, the Eagle Rock studio is gorge! Huge mirrors, plenty of ballet barres and glass windows/doors (and we can't forget about the exposed beams).

If you've got an hour to spare head to your closest Cardio Barre and get your tushy toned!

Pretty sweet studio. Exposed Brick. High ceilings, exposed beams. Rocking staff. Clean & awesome atmosphere. I LOVE the cardio barre method. I must often frequent the original in Studio City.... I would def recommend this location to anyone. I am health & fitness obsessed and this place definitely delivers!

Not to mention that it is DEF the best work out ever. EVER. You wanna be lean and hot?? Rock out CB a few times per week... you're golden.

There's also a cute little coffee/froyo place next door that I might've gone in after class to grab a sensible almond milk latte. Perfect ending to the perfect workout.

    GO FOR IT!

I love this place! the people who gave it a poor review sound like they are out of shape and are not ready for the high energy, efficient and fun workout that Cardio Barre is! Yes it moves fast, yes the music is loud, and yes you kind of have to be in some shape to keep up, but thats why I love it! It completely tones your body from head to toe, its doesn't bulk you up it leans you out! It's low impact so its a great alternative for people who have injuries. And yes it does get packed with people! But thats because its amazing! If you really want to get in shape this is the place!

After I took my first class using my Groupon deal ($39 for 10 classes) I called Groupon and asked for a refund. I even mentioned that I'll pay for the one class I used because there's no way I'm going back there for another 9 classes. Groupon was nice enough to give me a full refund. Cardio Barre is a joke. The front desk was not welcoming at all, it was horrible customer service. As a first time customer, I pretty much had to figure everything out on my own. No shoes, so socks.. barefeet yuck! Not to mention, the studio smelled like sweat. No thanks. I arrived 5 min before class and there was literally no room at any of the barres. I literally had to squeeze in between 2 people. If people are cramped next to each other, how could it possibly be a good workout? The whole time you're worrying that you might kick the person next to you. It really felt like being at a zoo.. Imagine animals trying to get out of a cage.. that's how a Cardio Barre class looks like.  Everyone is moving in different directions because the teacher goes from one excersice to another at a really fast tempo. There's no way you can perfect your form at the pace of the class. Yes, you sweat becuase you're jumping up and down looking like a monkey. This workout could easily tear a muscle, sprain your ankle, or incur more damage if you're injured. Do yourself a favor and save an hour of your life by doing something worthwhile. This class is a disaster. If you really want to change your body, go to Bar Method.

This workout is a recipe for disaster and injury. They don't warm you up, but rather jump into lurching quick exercises and don't focus on form at all. If you're not careful, you're going to pull a muscle or worse. I've practiced yoga and been a runner for 15 years, and thankfully I know the limits of my muscles. But if I were not a regular exerciser, I could so easily hurt myself.

The workout is spastic and so many people (myself included) were not given time or instruction to get proper form. I liked the arms and abs section (off the bar), and actually felt some burn and satisfaction from it. But honestly, either slow it down, or call it a jazzercise class with less leg extension and don't risk beginners pulling muscles or overextending.

The front desk was so-so. I didn't get any welcome or instruction as to where to go, what to do with my stuff, but I figured it out. Instructor was peppy and nice, but quite often I couldn't hear her over the loud music.

I'm not sure who other reviewers saw at the front desk, but the young girl who checked me in for my first Cardio Barre experience was sweet and encouraging. She also joined the class (last one of the night). The instructor was great, Kamilah, and though I got lost a few times, I just watched the more experienced ladies around me and got back on track.

The workout BURNED my legs, arms, and butt. I could barely lift my legs at the end. The cool down was perfect and the class flew by.

As some one who was one of the bigger girls in class (I'm a 16/18) I thought it was a welcoming environment, a class I can handle (it was the beginner one) and a class I plan to return to 2-3 times a week.

The main things that stuck with me when I first walked into Cardio Barre in Eagle rock was:

    1) The smell - I can understand sweaty smell, but this was one of the worst smells I have experienced walking into a workout place.
    2)  Carpet.  That just scares me.
    3)  Street parking.. come early.

It was an intro class.  Thank God.  And yes, you may have to take a few intro classes to feel comfortable, but being someone who is relatively body conscious, I felt that the pace was still a bit fast for introductory.  Most of the movements I really hated (and by hated.. I mean loved for the idea of sexy body.. but hated for the pain, sweat and tears in the moment). :)

    My main gripe:
I have to assume that most people haven't danced or lifted weights before.. and have the knowledge of proper technique because that can really save you from injury in the future.

I don't know who the teacher was, I really liked her and her encouragement.  She was also quite aware when she'd see people lifting their shoulders, arching their backs to get height, people not squaring their hips and shoulders (which normal people wouldn't even know what that means), but maybe cardio barre should have an intro to barre class where they explain posture, how to make sure you're not cheating by using other muscles to help you work out.. what it feels like to square your shoulders or hips....  If a few more people understood the correct form, they could get a better workout and save themselves from injury.

On the upswing.. overall, I liked it.  I was a little nervous that it would be filled with skinny mini's wearing little tops and short shorts, showing off their dancer bodies -- but there were body types of all sizes and no one was showing mid-drift. Which was encouraging to me.  :)

I would say, pace yourself accordingly, technique is more important than speed.. I know that is the cardio part.. but maybe fling your arms less widely or lift your legs lower so you can get the speed and reps in a controlled manner (which the instructor did continue to mention).. but pay attention to your body, do it right and do it to your pace and you will get the results you want.

Next time, I will wear socks and bring a giant towel. :)

Cardio Barre was just what I needed to get me out of my non working out funk. I grew tired of the treadmill and the elliptical and my squeaky knees won't let me make it through a step class these days. As a former dancer (who is basically now a wannabe dancer) I thought I would try Cardio Barre after reading about it in magazines , etc. This workout was created especially for me! We do a fast paced, low impact work out , based on ballet and pilates to awesome booty shaking music (we heard Brit and Beyonce today) ! I'm in LOVE!

I have been going to the 6:30pm Tues/Thurs beginner class and have enjoyed both instructors I have had so far. They are enthusiastic and really take the time to correct your format.

It's a little pricey but worth the sacrifice. I look forward to working out and I feel the BURN. I have only been going consistently for 2 weeks so I can't see a change in my body yet, but i definitely feel better inside and out and enjoy the hour I have on Tuesday and Thursday to relax and unwind after a long day at work.

    Dear Bar Method,
I'm cheating on you.  With Cardio Barre.  I'm sorry, she's just nicer, peppier, and with a better soundtrack.  She doesn't make me call in advance to reserve classes, the studio is huge, and it's close to Oinkster (because what better to do after working out then undoing all of the work with pastrami).
Don't worry, I'll be back some day.  I just bought that 10 class Groupon, and I really don't feel like paying $10 a class after that expires.  You're more convenient and the instructors are more focused on the individual students, and your studio is a bit nicer.
    XOXO,
    Me

    Loved it!

Tried it through Groupon and was pretty impressed. Good energy and very full class. My first try was with Kamilah and really enjoyed her! Seemed sincere and like she enjoyed teaching, rather than being cheesy and fake like a lot of instructors can be.

I was surprised that everyone in the class was so "with it". I danced growing up and haven't in over 10 years, so I wouldn't call myself a dancer, but it made it easy for me to pick up on the routine my first time. I would think that for anyone who has had no dance training in their life, jumping right in might be a little daunting because it might be hard to get the alignment/placement right in this large setting.

But the level of student here was pretty great!

Not sure I will keep coming after my 10-class package expires, because I have a gym membership and it is pricey in comparison.

Would def recommend to friends to try and see if it is for them!

Love, Love, Love this place!  I bought the groupon earlier this year and have been coming 2X per week ever since.

It is a little difficult when you first get started but keep with it and you will soon love it too.  It took me about 4 classes before I started to get it and I'm still learning new things as I'm now taking advanced classes.  The classes are fast paced and designed to keep your heart rate up.  The trainer comes around and helps you with your form.  It's also helpful to find a spot near someone who's been there a while so you can follow them.

All the trainers are great and each one puts a different spin on the class.  I usually enjoy Micki's class (she gives a lot of direction & explanation in the beginner classes and will answer questions if you come early to her 5:30 class) but I also like to switch it up once in a while.

Parking is a pain as the residents don't seem to like us.  Allow extra time.

Results will speak for themselves.  Put in the time and you will not regret it!

Clean, attractive, and conveniently-located studio. Friendly staff, great instructors (motivating and upbeat). I definitely get quite a workout here. However, as a beginner I do want more opportunity to improve alignment- not sure how they can do that since the class is pretty fast-paced--- maybe a little info sheet on the common moves? Or a slow intro class (slower than beginner) that you can take once or twice? Every once in awhile I encounter an action where I'm not sure if I'm doing it right and I don't feel the burn (sooo I doubt I'm doing it right). I just look around at other people but notice a lot of people are doing it differently from one another anyways. Maybe it's just a matter of going to a few more classes. Anyways, I enjoy the class and the very efficient workout.

i can tell you that i walked out feeling great right after the workout!  lately i have more time to myself than usual, so i finally decided to try and do something good for myself and muster up the courage to start working out (again).  i have been doing so intermittently because i have been lazy or tired, but more lazy than tired.  so i yelped Cardio Barre, found one in my area.

anyway, so i had to ditch the intro class because (1) it's once a week and (2) beginner classes fit my schedule.  though my positioning needed a little work, laura, the instructor, was very encouraging in helping me with my form.  and at the end, she commented on how well i was able to follow the class, being that it was my first time.  i will admit that i did have trouble with using 2lb weights. honestly, i thought.. yeah 2lbs is nothing, but not when you are doing consistent reps in different positions (i had to stop using them for a bit), so next time, i will just work my way up with 1lb then 2lb weights.  this was a good class and i have found something to keep me going.  it's $16 a class, and there are packages as well.  i probably have found something to commit to, because i got a little keychain thingy that was scanned for my first class.

based on other yelpers, yeah i wished i had done the intro class first, but laura was easy to follow.  i did not feel an ounce of intimidation here, but just women that want to work on their fitness.

Cardio Barre is SO addicting! It's a mix of ballet + cardio + weightlifting and it burns...but in a good way! I came here about 3x a week for 2 months before my wedding, and noticed that my scrawny arms and legs finally became toned! I felt a lot stronger and healthier after taking classes here. All the instructors I had were awesome, but Demian was my favorite. I miss it a lot and hate that I'm living on the east coast because I can't go here anymore.

I took a class for the first time here today and already feel great. I definitely want to go back. I took a single class for $16 but am considering buying ten classes for $150. The workouts were energetic and just what I needed to get back into shape. I bet one week of these classes and I will be back on my path to being fit!! The instructor was really nice and helpful too.

I started Cardio Barre in March 2010.  I have been doing this, in combination with pole dancing classes since Nov 2009 and have lost 23 pounds to date.  I have 17 years ballet background; I am talking 5-6 days a week at the peak of my training, with pointe.

Anyways, in being classically trained I still got a great workout from Cardio Barre.  I came my first day into a beginner's level, and was approached by Kamilah, who was the instructor that day, to definitely come in to Advanced level.  I appreciate that the instructors can see immediately where you should be.  After just one class, I purchased the 10 class pack.  I break a huge sweat every time, and haven't felt like I've hit a plateau.  Granted I don't get to use my technique as much as I'd like, but my opinion is that it's a CARDIO class, not a classical ballet class.  We do plies on steroids, which I looove and make me shake and sore afterwards!  I like how they integrate light weights, and love the Pilates and Yoga stuff they throw in at the end with floor work.  For me, it's a great mix of my love for ballet combined with rockin' beats to do it to at triple time!

ANNND there is this awesome Acai bowl place right beside it that I treat myself to every now and again after my workout :)  Makes it fun to go and keep up the routine, which is the key to any form of exercise we undertake so we can stick to it!

I went to another instructor's class and found it so much better than the last 5 classes I've gone to because the instructor spent a lot more time educating the students in proper form.  She spoke very clearly and loud enough for everyone in the room to hear so I'll raise the bar to a 5 star but only if you go to Micki's class!  The other instructor seems to mumble a little bit or perhaps the music is too loud?

I'd like to preface this review by saying that cardio usually is just not "my thing." I HATE running on treadmills and the word "elliptical" makes me cringe. That being said, Cardio Barre is one of those great solutions for people like me who need to get their cardio through some kind of fun activity. I starting taking these classes after buying a Groupon and I have been ADDICTED ever since. I haven't had an instructor I didn't love. Everyone is amazing, and I've left each class drenched. This is an excellent way to get your heart rate up while doing something fun. That being said, it's really important to listen to the instructors and get your form down because once you do, you will FEEL THE BURN. I'm definitely going to keep coming back. I love this place!

I bought the Groupon and I am really pleased with Cardio Barre so far!  I am a fitness instructor myself and I must say that the instructors I've had here have been pretty great.  High energy and very helpful!  The classes have been packed due to the Groupon but I have a friend who is a regular client and she said there are usually less people.  I think the teachers do a great job working the room and correcting people considering how many clients they have to attend to at once.  Demian is my favorite!  I do wish he would teach some advance classes because the beginner classes take too many breaks for me.

I have actually taken Bar Method before and I like Cardio Barre better... it's more dance-based which is what I was looking for.

One piece of advice:  I have a ballet background (nothing amazing but I've taken some classes) and the workout moves so fast that sometimes I get a little behind.  It's OK.  Don't get frustrated.  You'll get a great workout here even if you're lagging a little so keep at it : )

Eeks, sorry CB - not trying to hate on you or anything but I am just not a fan.  I had purchased a package off Bloomspot and came in here to redeem it.  This was after spending 2 months or so over at Bar Method (which I fell in love with - great music, friendly, knowledgeable and personable instructors) and I had no idea what Cardio Barre was like.  My workout buddy and fellow Pilates enthusiast raved about the place so I figured I would, too.

After signing my info and release at the front, the girl said, "All right, you're all set to go!" I appreciate the tone and all, but umm..a LITTLE explanation would be nice? Like where to put my stuff, where to set up, what I need for the class, where the bathrooms are, etc...anything? Nada..I literally had to ask her every question. When she responded she was nice, but really, no explanation for anything? What if I had health issues or limitations? I settle myself in a spot and the class starts.

I can't quite describe my initial reaction but the class is kind of like Costco-style Bar Method on crack (think about the commercial where the girl smashes egg and says "this is what happens to your brain after snorting heroin").  The room was huge, the music was loud and there were tons of people.  I'm a stickler for form and efficient workout but o-m-g I think at least 15-20 people had different forms from each other, let alone the instructor.  It was ugly to look at and I did not feel squat before, during or after my workout.  Just when I thought something *might* be effective, we switched to another position.  The instructor wasn't helpful and barely acknowledged any first timers and I KNOW I was doing some of the stuff wrong.  I may not know what is right, but I do know what half the class was doing will do absolutely nothing for their bodies.  Hey, I was trained as a Pilates instructor after all.

Truth be told, I can't see the resemblance between CB and Bar Method at all and prefer the burning and shaking I experience in a more intimate studio over the large mirrored studio facing the street.  (My stalker could find me so easily here!) Nevertheless when I broke the news to my friend she was disappointed, she loves this place!  I have yet had the chance to drag her to Bar Method with me though...see you later Cardio Barre!

    SHORT STORY
Still love the workout after all these years.
Would continue to suggest it to my strong, injury free clients who have excellent body awareness.
Its a clean and bright and open space.
Wasnt thrilled with the "interesting" reception at the front desk...kinda cold and creepy
If I hadnt enjoyed such a wonderful class from such an excellent instructor on Saturday morning, I probably wouldnt have considered returning, but I know I will.
    4 stars for the workout
4 stars for the venue (the uneven floor kinda had me a little whompy)
    5 stars for the instructor
    -10 stars for the "reception"

    LONG STORY
On Saturday I took a Cardio Barre Class for the first time in several years, at the Eagle Rock location.
    Interesting...
I used to teach at the one in Studio City for 4 years.
I Have always LOVED the workout and the people who came to my classes...certain other things that came with that studio: not so much.
    Saturday was no different.
I LOVED the instructor (Micki Duran).
She used to take my classes back in the day and I had seen her doing her instructor training. I knew she would rock the workout! Yep, she is even better than ever! Such a delight, she's motivating, she's detail oriented, and she really cares that the participants are doing it right and having a good time.
HOWEVER, the reception at the front desk was beyond-ICY!
Too funny, since the 2 gals at the front desk (the owners) also used to take classes from me back in the day and acted as if they had no clue who I was. I look exactly the same! (ok, 3lbs heavier)
Now, I wont take it personally since they were just as cold to everyone else who came in. A shame since this was a FREE Client Appreciation day and you'd think they'd have on a happy face...guess not.
The gals were even cold to my friend/client when she arrived. I felt bad since it was her first time and I had suggested she try it out : (
I should have known since a couple of my friends/clients who have been going on and off since I told them that this location opened had mentioned to me that they have had the same "icy/rude/curt experience.  A few just ignore it and still attend, a couple never went back.
    : (
I should note that there was a gent at the desk who was pleasant. : )
It was fun to revisit a workout I used to really enjoy teaching as much as doing.
I was happy to bring one of my clients along so she would have another workout option on the days that I am not in town
Her verdict:  "not my cup of tea".
I had also made it a point to tell several other friends and clients about the FREE Class day since they are always looking to add something to their fitness routine on TU/TH and weekends when I am not in town...it embarrasses me to think that I may have sent them to have a dismal encounter at a front desk. eek! Luckily no one else was able to attend on such short notice...I told them at 8pm the night before.
    : /
I had also wanted to purchase a class package since they were doing an awesome special on packages, but I left with a bad taste in my mouth and didnt want to had them any $ on that day.
    : (
I know I'll get over it, and probably go back.

    FOOD FOR THOUGHT
They have excellent instructors! These are the ones I am familiar with:
MICKI:  Cannot say enough good things. She is the type of instructor I crave...she will kindly kick your bootay yet will make newbies feel welcome. Other friends/clients have really enjoyed her classes.
MARITA:  I used to teach with Marita at Cardio Barre. She is an excellent motivator with an extensive Pilates background (certified, with many years of experience) and understands the needs of pre/post natal participants.
DEMIAN: I only know that he is an incredible dancer, has incredible work ethic (several year ago he was dancing in a piece where I assisted the choreographer and found him to be a outstanding performer and technician) and his body speaks for itself.
BYRON: I have heard nothing but great things about him. Several of my clients take his class here and at another location where he teaches other classes. What they say: "so much fun" "I love his class" "you have to take his class!"

Hopefully when my schedule permits, I will get to pop in and try some other instructors.

    LAST WORD
    Give it a try!
If you are looking for ballet, go to ballet class.
If you want an intense, fast-paced workout, and don't have any injuries, go for it!

    Happy Sweating!
    :)

What an awesome workout this class is!  I loved everything about it.  Its positive spirit (BTW, Kamilah is an amazing instructor) the crowd, how nice everyone is, including the ladies at the front desk, and its kick-arse workout!  I am totally sore today!  But in a good way!

I've done ballet from the age of 7, even through college... In high school, Mon and Wed were pointe and Tues and Thurs were slipper.  And ballet is typically MEAN!  And catty!  I mean it's no joke that your instructor walks around with the yardstick and humiliates (at one point) everyone in front of the whole class!  Maybe I just went to a total old school place... I probably have post tramatic stress from that, which may explain my bag of neuroses!  :/  But Cardio Barre is the polar opposite, embracing a positive, energetic, self motivating environment.  I was pleasantly surprised.

This class really is ballet, super hyped on Madonna remixes.  You do the movements at a much faster pace than typical ballet, its concentration is not about presentation and art form, but more so on building and focusing your muscles.  A graceful version of pilates.  I hear that you could lose 5% of your body fat in a month if you consistently do this 2X a week!  I believe it.

Here is reason number 15 for wanting to live on the east side.  If I lived near here, I would come here 3X a week.  Really.  The hour went by fast, where in most classes I'm typically watching the clock.  The instructor walks around the class during the end stretching portion and massages your legs and arms!  How cool is that!  Can't wait to go back.  It's completely worth the trek from the westside.

OMG. this place kicks the bar method's butt.

    seriously.

i broke more sweat here tonight than i did running 5 miles or doing the bar method back to back.

i did the bar method for a month and by the end, felt the plateau. tonight i can literally say that i got my @$$ whooped.

i bought the ten pack, which is great cuz i don't have to use it up all in a month. i'm actually saving money cuz i did the bar method for a month but i went less than ten times.

    i'll update my progress.

My bf's mom took me to my first class four days ago, and I've already gone back for a second class and bought a 10 class package!

If I had to describe the exercise, I'd say its ballet aerobics; you work at a ballet barre for balance. You do not need to know ballet to participate, but the instructors do reference first position, second, etc, plus plies, so it is helpful to take the INTRO class. I started with a Beginner class and did fine, but am going back to take an intro class to get the basics down.

The reason I like the work out is because it is very low impact on joints (I have a bad knee and even Yoga sometimes bothers it) but you feel the results. Repetitious movements and core strengthening are focused on during the entire workout to fun (loud) music!

The instructors are great and walk around making sure you are doing the moves right; don't be embarrassed, they are helping you to get the pose right and not hurt yourself! The instructors are nice and friendly, and their toned figures motivate me even more during class!

The one thing that concerned me was the carpet. You do the exercises barefoot, so I understand that sweat on hard wood floors may be a safety hazard, but I wasn't sure if I liked the idea of my feet rubbing the carpet filled with other people's sweat and toe jams (no offense, I'm a germ freak). I did, however, see them cleaning the carpet at the end of the night! I asked them if they clean the carpet everyday, and they said YES. PHEW!

    Some tips:
    - bring a large towel to lay on
    - bring water
    - prepared to go barefoot
    - stretch!
    - take an Intro class first
    - prepare to sweat

    Get your body summer-ready! Enjoy!

I'm in love. Mixing ballet with cardio?? WTF! Best idea ever, and I'm officially addicted. Not to mention that the Eagle Rock location is less than a block from my office... The instructor's are fabulous, the music is upbeat and motivating, and let me tell you - these are some of the most tough, relaxing 1 hour work-outs I've ever done. Very happy to have been introduced to Cardio Barre and I plan to be working out here for a lonnnng long time. :)

So I liked it the few weeks that I went and if you're thinking about giving Cardio Barre a try you totally should do it once or twice, but for me it isn't the best option.

    pros:
-It is a good workout, and the classes are pretty full most of the time so people seem to really enjoy it.

    - the teacher I ended up with every time was really great. He seemed like really knew what he was doing and made some funny 80's dance jokes.

-The people there are all really nice, the other ladies in the class were very friendly.

    cons.
-It's pretty expensive, $15.00 a class. If you can afford $15-$60 a week to work out, then great but I was expecting some more technique related exercises for that price. There isn't much of a discount if you buy the package either, and I was near the Simi Valley location and they have a $100 a month for unlimited classes price which made me think, waaaiiitt a minute, that seems off compared to the Eagle Rock location. I know they are privately owned... but its a pretty big difference in price.

-It is more of a group exercise class than a ballet class. Yes you're doing ballet sort of exercises but there is no emphasis on doing them correctly, which is what makes them even more effective. I was sore after the first class, but not really after that.

Bottom line is if you can afford it and you're looking for a toning workout then I think it's great. But, if you're on a budget and you're looking for more than just a workout, maybe look elsewhere.
