4 reviews for Car Toys
I've bought a lot of car audio equipment in the past, and I used to install high-end gear in high school years ago. But these days I'm older, married, and too busy working so I have to leave the installation fun and gear knowledge to a new generation.
My wife and I bought a Honda Element which had a pretty bland factory stereo and no techy features. So I popped into Car Toys on Aurora Avenue and met Omar. I told him I wanted Navigation, Bluetooth connectivity for our phones, and of course great sound. He brought out the installer, Richard, and together we talked over the available equipment.
They had a killer deal on a Kenwood Nav unit that was a closeout. We went over the bluetooth module, amplifier and backup cam option, which I knew my wife would love. They gave me a good price and I went home to do some research online before committing. Searching Crutchfield and other online sites, I found their prices were very good, and the equipment they recommended was top shelf and well reviewed, but I found a few items for a couple dollars less online.
When I went back they matched those prices and gave me an even better deal than I found online for the most pricy piece, the Nav unit. Richard installed everything perfectly and we all got in the car and played with the features. Most amazing was that my T-mobile G1 connected by bluetooth instantly. Not only was the hands-free awesome, but I was able to stream Pandora to the system over the 3G wireless network. Fantastic!
I can't say enough good things about Omar and Richard. I paid the lowest price for top quality equipment and had an outstanding buying experience. Your experience will always be dependent on the people who help you, and right now, this Car Toys location is stacked with a likable, talented, and helpful crew.
If you need a car stereo for Christmas 2009, don't wait, get in there now.
Had to write a review after reading previous reviews. Actually the thing that sucks the most, is trying to switch cell phone carriers. I went to Car Toys when I realized I had to switch carriers because I couldn't get a signal at my new home. T-Mobile was reluctant to let me go despite the fact that they couldn't get a reliable signal at my house. I was on and off the phone for two days with them.
At one point a Car Toys employee, Miguel Garcia(?) stayed on hold and dealt with T-Mobile and then Verizon for me for hours to set me up with new service. The Sales Manager at the time Raul, was very helpful as well, and they even let me stay past closing time to finish the long process.
In the end, I bought the warranty, because I know how it works. If you don't use their warranty during the set time period, you get that same money back as credit towards anything Car Toys sells. The sales guy that an earlier reviewer dealt with did sound like he was being a jerk, but I don't want that to reflect on all their employees. They actually let me return a 8 month old car charger that died for free, sure the company that made it said its warrantied for life, but I was happily surprised by the lack of BS. Thank you to the good employees at Car Toys, and maybe certain sales staff should be taught some etiquette and manners in dealing with customers, it will help everyone in the long run.
the car toys staff on 130th and aurora are the party people! I often see those boys bbqin'...listenin to hip hop at 11am...and chain smokin. Homeboys hooked me up with a sweet slide phone for 100 bucks. Then right as i was leaving the sales guy said "when your ready to get a real phone, come back". Hilariously rude. I like it.
Nothing sucks more then buying cell phones. Second only to buying cell phones is the sale guy trying to sucker you into buying the warranty for the cell phones. I came here because it was close to home and I hard heard good things about it. I was not happy with my experience. We stood around for about 20 minutes before anyone asked us if we needed help. The sales person seemed inexperienced with the different servers and phones and wanted to push the most expensive model off on us. He was unable to answer some of my questions and would usually state, "Its in the manual." Once we found the phones we wanted the plan that would work for our area, it was time for the salesman to try and sell us the warranty. This is sort of how this went:
SM:OK, for an extra $200 you can have a warranty for these two phones.
Me: But these phones are only costing me $100.
SM: Yeah, but they will cost you more then that to replace them.
Me: But for $200 I could buy one more phone.
SM: What if you break both phones.
Me: Then I'm an idiot.
SM: It could happen.
Me: Then I'll buy cheap phones because obviously I can't take care of my stuff.
SM: Why not just buy the warranty?
Me: Why don't I just put the $200 in the bank and collect interest. Then if I break one phone I can use the $200 to replace it, and if I break another I'll use the interest from the $200 to buy a cheap phone at Value Village?
SM: You know, I've seen lots of people come back in here after getting phones who wished they had gotten the warranty because the phone stopped working.
Me: Are you telling me you sell crappy phones?
SM: No... That's not what I meant. I just mean that your better off with the warranty.
Me: I think I'm better off with the $200.
Needless to say, I still hate shopping for cell phones...
