Apparently we are super damn lucky to live right around the corner from this shop as before mentioned by fellow yelpers, but here's my two bits.

Solid good Italian delicacies.

A word on the mozzarella; come on, it's not THE BEST, but it's pretty darn good. ( If the little old man wants to dip it into the salt bath, let him because it gets complicated if you say no)

AMAZING subs - I recommend the Italian on Ciabatta

Olive Oils Galore

Pickled accouterments

Pastas abound!

Sauces everywhere!

You get the point, so go!

Once upon a time some of my friends fell in love and got married.

They then got pregnant and moved to Brooklyn.

The story of life.

A couple times a month aunt Lisa would come over bringing goodies from Caputo's in order to subject the cute little spawn into food comas so that the mamas and papas could get their drink on with her.

Caputo's quality more than justifies its Brooklyn Heights price--- you couldn't find better mozzarella in Italia. The skin is so sweet and each milky bite melts those "how did I end up spending 43 dollars on 4 pounds of groceries?" thoughts away. A very distinctive and fun collection of foodstuffs that will probably make you ooooh and ahhhh.

...Unfortunately, it turns out that parents are usually more prone to food comas than children.

More booze for me. Wait, who am I kidding? I'm taking a nap, too.

Best fresh and smoked mozzarella in the world, bar none. And the owner makes it fresh in back, and brings it out in a big pan and puts it in the salty water right before your eyes! It doesn't get any more authentic than this.  It's a real treat.

Everything else in there is also wonderful!

Uh, this Italian girl hasn't found better mozzarella(nothing comes close) in the neighborhood and their grilled artichoke hearts are not to be passed up! The fresh pastas are great and they carry some of my favorite Italian sweet treats that you can't find elsewhere. I am lucky to live a couple of blocks away, but if you're not as lucky it is still most definitely worth the trip!

Just awesome... and like walking back in time.. as soon as you step into the tile flooring and walk along to the homemade pastas and cheeses. Excellent italian sandwiches. Family-owned & very friendly. This is the stuff of movies -- this is why people come to New York, much less our area of Brooklyn. Good thing we have places like Caputo's and Esposito's along Court St., even D'Amico's down a few more blocks and the Court Pastry shop -- they add a dimension and taste of what this area still is... food-wise, can you imagine what is was, 30-40 years ago?

The only reason I'm not giving this place a 5th star is because of the patrons that go there and cause the most impossible of lines and confusion of the likes I've never seen before. If you go to this place, for the love of God and all of her majesty, know what you are going to order before you get there. Don't "uh, uh, ooh, hmm" in front of the counter.

... oh, and go to the damn bank machine and get $10 out. Don't charge $10 worth of cheese. Geeze.

That being said, we got some Gorgonzola (cheese) from this place and I've seriously never had anything so amazing and delicious in my life. My husband made me a "french omelet" (yes it's different from a "western omelet") and I almost passed out from glorious taste bud ecstasy. Serious.

Their bread is really, really delicious. They've been making it for like 120 years or some shit like that. Crazy! They probably baked the bread for Al Capone's wedding when it was at the church across the street...!

Then there is that crazy amazing olive and "other stuff" bar that should be illegal. The motz is out of this world and their pasta... I would live on that stuff if I wasn't afraid of getting sick of eating the best and most flavorful food I've ever had over and over again and getting "tired of it".

It's good alright.

I was never a huge pasta fan, but the frozen ravioli and their basil pesto sauce make an amazing, quick, and easy meal at home. I haven't tried any of their ravioli's that aren't amazing - and I've tried most of them.
Also a great selection of artisinal cheese and prosciutto. Ane the vegan pate is a perfect party spread. Yummyness!!
I love that it is one of the remaining old-fashioned stores in Brooklyn. Maintains the authentic feeling and warmth - an overall fun and satisfying shopping experience.

And as my Yelp walk down Court Street continues, I must mention Caputo's Fine Foods (as distinct from Caputo's bakery further north on Court).

Caputo's is one of the proud holdovers from a bygone era, and when you walk inside, you can immediately sense the history (they speak Italian behind the counter), as well as the quality of their food.

Many of their offerings - pastas, sauces, cheeses, etc. - are made either in house or by local purveyors.  They've got a great selection of cheeses and all the italian cold cuts and cured meats you could imagine.

My favorite thing in the entire store, however, is the smoked mozzarella.  They keep it in the middle of the store, by the olives.  Two sizes, each wrapped in cellophane.  Get some of that and a loaf of bread (they sell loaves from Caputo's up the street) and you're in for a simple yet awesome food experience.

Caputo's makes me smile. My only Brooklyn residence is at Luquer and Clinton, so I'm just a short jaunt from this old-world-feeling establishment. Frank is great, his wife is wonderful and always positive, and his kids are adorable.

Frank knows good cheese. There's quite a selection here, and he can provide quite a depth of information about any that are in stock. The "tronchetto" is fabulous, but the stock comes and goes.

He also makes all the pasta. The pasta is quite good, and if nothing else you know it's made close by with fresh ingredients and thought. The olive oil selection is broad enough to meet most needs. The Italian meets are local and quality, the soft cheeses are made on-site, the vibe always comforting.

Caputo's is not a top-dollar gourmet micro-establishment offering you rare items from around the globe. Caputo's is a wonderful return to a neighborhood shop that shares your vested interest in good food, family, and Italian influences. It feels home in Carroll Gardens and I'm so thankful it's so close.

I never walk out without a couple bags of items, even if I went in just for guanciale.

Yum-Diddly-Umptious.
Mozzarella like I've never had, better than Italy. They ask you if you want it salted. YOU DO, trust me here. I won't lead you astray.
I've had a mozzarella and tomato sando there with olive oil and balsamic. Possibly best thing I've eaten in all of Brooklyn.
Oh- they have fresh pasta and olive bars and so much yummy cheese that isn't mozzarella but oh the mozzarella...

Keep this place going and Brooklyn keeps it charm!!

I randomly found Caputo's on a stroll down Court St. and immediately fell in love. The owner (a proper Barese) spent a good amount of time schooling me on olive oil - then sold me a bottle from the huge selection. Though I wanted to buy everything in there, I only got the oil and some fresh mozzarella, but they were both well worth a trip to Carroll Gardens from anywhere in the city. I will be back soon.

Now that I am no longer lucky enough to live around the corner from Caputo's, I have to make pilgrimages to Carroll Gardens periodically to get my fresh mozzarella fix.  My mom, for her part, comes down from Westchester for the homemade raviolis, sauces and meatballs.

Everything house-made is worth trying at this venerable family-run shop.  Others have commented on the exemplary fresh mozz (which they'll dip in salt water for you if you want it seasoned) but equally wonderful is the selection of soups (I like lentil) and the take-out sandwiches.  Today I had my regular: Genoa salami, fresh mozzarella, sun-dried tomatoes, basil and balsamic vinegar on ciabatta.

In addition to the store's fresh pastas, sauces, antipasti and tiramisu (good!), there's a selection of specialty items like cheeses, oils, vinegars, olives and jams.

It's a real family operation.  When the Caputo matriarch, Flora (who could often be seen in the kitchen in a large cardigan) died two years ago, the family's sons and daughters-in-law became more present and keep an eye on their grieving dad, with whom they speak in Italian.  The two young men who work the counter are great also, super-friendly and helpful.  Everyone is ready to talk - about the store, the food or the neighborhood.  You'll want to be a regular - and, once you taste the food, you will be!

I just wanted to add another 5-star review for this place. I'd give it more if I could! This place is great. This neighborhood has lots of family owned businesses and this is one of them. Great fresh-pasta, mozzarella, sauces, olives, breads (from their bakery up the street) and a whole ton of other very yummy things.

Keep local family stores alive and go here for the best ingredients (or meals!)

I've walked by this little store a million times but never thought about going in until the other day. My brother suggested it because our parents were in town and we'd just bought a few bottles of wine and needed some olives and bread.
Wow! So much is packed in here that I definitely could have spent quite awhile investigating every detail of every product on the shelves They have meats and grilled antipasti and the extensive cheese selection looked wonderful--and this is coming from someone who can't eat dairy. I can definitely vouch for the two olive bars (we bought spicy oil cured Moroccan, Kalamata, green Sardinian, and some broad beans, (or, maybe they were fava beans?) in olive oil and some rosemary bread. Holy. Moly. Yum. Is it possible for one person to consume an entire loaf of rosemary bread? Hrmmm.
They had shelves of fresh, dried pastas and refrigerators full of homemade sauces and tortellini, ravioli (the artichoke ravioli caught my eye), etc. My brother also commented that it's one of the only markets that has the longer style fusilli.
Now that I'm familiar with Caputo's, I'm most definitely returning. I'm so happy to have been introduced.

Oh, the olives! And sausages, and cheeses, and bread, and pasta... oh oh oh oh oh. Yes, that was possibly my first Yelp food-gasm.

My usual weekend ritual entailed popping into Caputo's to pick up a loaf of olive bread, two hunks of cheese, some sopressata, and a small container of mixed marinated green and black olives. Absolute, total sensory heaven. Weekends just aren't the same now that I can't do that anymore...

New businesses come and go now that Carroll Gardens is gentrifying, but it's comforting to know family-run places like Caputo's are still sticking around.

Best mozzarella ever -- you'll want to run home to eat it.  Get it salted.

Pumpkin ravioli is also damn good, although too sweet to make a whole meal around -- more of an appetizer.  The other raviolis i've tried (the mushroom gnocci and walnut gorgonzola) were a little bland and disappointing.  The place has really good meats and cheese too.  But the mozzarella is seriously a must try if you're in the neighborhood.

Best.  Mozzarella.  Ever.
The last time I was there, I requested mozzarella and the elderly owner held up a finger and walked to the back.  He returned a few moments later with brand-spanking-new, freshly made mozzarella.  As in, still a bit warm and gooey.  By the time I got it home it had taken on the shape of the container.  And, it was a little bit of milky, salty, chewy, gooey, heaven.

Caputo's is great. They have fresh mozzarella that you can ask to have salted in your presence, a full olive table, tons of different packaged pastas, gnocchi, and ravioli, that are frozen but still very fresh.

The one store they might have more in common with is Esposito's because you can also get soppressata and other italian specialties. They also have a large cheese selection which is quite good.

I've easily convinced friends looking for some appetizers to spend a lot of money here. No need to go to Fratelli's when you're this close to the
real deal.

Great italian foods shop like you might expect to find nearby Mulberry & Grand in Manhattan.
Cheeses, breads and olives worth fixing a meal around.  Good coffees, pastas and pestos too.  Can't speak to the meats but ppl are always ordering from their sandwich/deli counter.
Very friendly and helpful staff keep ppl happy even when the line gets long.

Caputo's is a wonderful find.  Unfortunately I wasn't the first one to give the First Review.  I am beaten out by ten other muthas who had the good sense to go in and try the food.  I have passed this place numerous times and havee always thought it was just another Boar's Head and Citterrio brand Salumeria store like A&S and Pollio.  I could never have been so wrong.  Their imported Italian cured meats are second to none.

I tasted and bought the following.  Smoked herbed Parma Cotta, steamed Parma Cotta, speck and Piedmontese salami.  Both Parma's are moist and taste as described.  Speck is inundated with smoke.  All three hams have the right amount of fat on the outside.  The Piedmontese is air dried and though it has a high fat content it doesn't feel like you're chewing and salted pork.  It is seasoned perfectly.

Having worked at Bellamellio's of Park Slope in the early '80's, a gourmet store t\which specialized in hard to find and delicious cheese, I will unequivocally state that Caputo's has a Grade A cheese selection.  Better than Blue Apron, D'Vine Taste and Bierkraft.  Saying this their mozzarella comes in second place to Casa Deli of Arthur Avenue and Claudio's of Philadelphia (both are tied for first).  If Caputo's mozzarella had more fat, if it tasted creamier then it would be first, hands down, no tie.  I am in no way putting down the mozzarella.  In fact I urge you to buy it, dunked quickly in their version of sea water.  The Pecorino Romano Genuino is mildly sharp and tangy.  It has no "flour" aftertaste.  Parmigiano Reggiano is very sharp.  Its taste lingers on your tongue for one minute without giving you the ammonia aftertaste one finds in other inferior sharp cheese.  If you like putting these kinds of cheese over your food, or eating it as is with whatever wine and fruit you consume buy these cheeses.

Finally, the olive di calcia.  Extraordinary, at first I thought they were baby Gerginola olives.  One taste pot that notion to rest.  A fine sheen of olive oil on the skin and a lightly seasoned brine soaked meat make for olives you're proud to serve people or horde for yourself.

Caputo's is one store I intend to patronize for a very long time.  I pray they don't close down because some demographics can't handle fat and skin on their meat, or from high rent.  I suggest you ask the owners, who are lovely people by the way, to bring back their pork loin wrapped in smoked Pancetta.

I feel like there aren't a whole lot of friendly, family owned little places like this anymore. There's always a long line (and if there isn't when you walk in, it forms quickly while you're in there), but the wait's worth it for the fresh mozzarella, olives, bread and specialty cheeses. Plus I get a kick out of hearing people order in Italian, which quite a few regulars do. I love their pumpkin ravioli (with a little fresh parm on top), but it tends to fly off the shelves...

This is a truly great shop.  A family run business that makes terrific Italian specialties like grilled vegetables, sauces, mozzerella, olives.  It is too bad that these family run places are closing at an alarming rate in Brooklyn.  I could eat here every night.
