For people who don't feel like taking a trip to the hood...you're missing out on some good grubbage. When I say hood, I mean the real hood of Houston. Forget about 3rd and 5th wards. Forget about Aldine Place. Forget about Montrose (kidding). Forget about all of those. I'm talking about Cloverleaf. That's the hood folks! Inside the leaf, as I like to call it, there is a little boat on a freeway called Cap'n Toms Seafood and Oyster Bar. This is truly a diamond in the rough.

Now I have been to the other Capt Toms, such as the Cypress and Katy boats, but nothing compares to this one. Did I mention its on a boat? How awesome is that? I used to come here once a week to get some lunch with the Madre and I have NEVER had oysters that can compared to Cap'n Toms. This place is packed full every time we get there and for good reason.

-The food is cheap.
-The oysters are fresh as can be and shucked right in front of you.
-The fried shrimp has that southern batter that I absolutely love.
-The gumbo is SO Cajun-ly authentic and fantastic.
-Did I mention this place is on a boat? Wow!
-They have amazing Micheladas (probably spelled that wrong) which go perfect with the Oysters and gumbo.

I'm not a fan of their etoufee, but I've never tasted etoufee as good as my father's, or mine for that matter. I guess I'm partial. Another great thing is that every waiter speaks Spanish, but very little English. So after about 5 months of coming to this place, you become bilingual! That's so awesome. Ocho Camarones Fritas y Papas Fritas es perfecto! Keep in mind this place holds close to about 50 occupants for lunch. THEY HAVE 2 COOKS! Only 2 cooks mind you. These 2 little Hispanic women rock out that kitchen! I have worked in kitchens before, but I have never seen that much skill.

It takes alot for me to give a seafood restaurant 5 stars due to the fact that I prefer my fish raw instead of deep fried, but I can't forget that I'm a country boy at heart. This is just plain ole down home seafood. So come on out to the Leaf and enjoy!
