My man and I went here for dinner to scope out this place as a possible place for a wedding reception, and though it wasn't our style (cape cod/new england style decor), we still had a very nice dinner. The view was nice, but the fog covered the views of the bridge and the city.... in any case, it was not the highlight of the night. The piping hot french rolls were absolutely addictive; crusty and delicious...we kept slathering them with butter and salt (they give this cool red salt... there goes our blood pressure!)
In between waiting for our dishes, the chef sent out some small bites: a fried shrimp cocktail with sauce and a raspberry sorbet (very refreshing). My man had escargot, which were unshelled and very generous in size (he loved them). For our entrees, he had the rack of lamb, which was also a generous portion and very well cooked. The only complaint was that the potatoes were quite cold by the time we got them. I had the scallops, which were ENORMOUS (about 1.5-2" diameter x 4 pieces = very full) and served over a green risotto. We were too stuffed to have any dessert.
The service was attentive, but slow-paced, so you can't go here for a quick bite. Total with a glass of wine each = $104+ tip. Definitely a nice place for special occassions, esp. if you want to get out of the city.
As an update to my previous post, here is a message I received from the General Manager after my initial poor review:
"Our chef was not here the night you dined with us. It's no excuse but I thought I would let you know that all of these reviews are read to the entire crew so we can make adjustments when there are specific complaints."
So, just beware. The chef might not be there that night and you may end up with a low caliber meal that you pay a grip for. And, as far as I can tell, they will put forth no effort to make it up to you.

I wish I would have paid more attention to the smattering of bad reviews here. I just figured a… Read more »
So I was looking for a place a bit unconventional. I asked a couple of friends of romantic spots that they like to take their special someone- the list came out: Ame, Perbacco, and Foreign Cinema. All reputable establishments to be sure but I wanted something different!
And so I looked outside of San Francisco.
I looked to Tiburon.
Tiburon sits in a covelike enclosure with prime views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the Northern parts of the City. Setting your reservation so that sunset will hit halfway through your dinner is prime to make it that special moment. Ours surely was. Caprice sits right on the water, windows all around. Quite beautiful.
The restaurant is intimate, the staff excellent, and the food was amazing. Definitely coming back.
Also- you can take the ferry from the Ferry building. It drops you about a 5 minute walk from the restaurant.
Great view, great service, great food! My wife and I went to Caprice for our anniversary and was very impressed. Make reservations before sunset and you will see birds making there way home and a view that you will not forget. We ordered from the pre fixe menu and brought one of favorite bottles of wine. I think corkage was about 10 bucks. The pre fixe was $35. It included 2 courses plus dessert. To our surprise it came with a complimentary amuse bouche. Great Lamb, great scallops, great chocolate cake. We also ordered the foie gras which was on a carrot type cake and creme fraiche which I thought was weird but surprisingly excellent. The service was great very attentive and knowledgeable waiter. Overall must see, must go restaurant
I wasn't gonna review this place right away mostly cause I'm lazy but when I saw a 2 star rating by someone I felt that it was necessary. Kind of funny she gave Olive Garden 5 stars. I guess it was because the authenticity of that place. You know the Chefs go to Italy to train. haha
I am really just echoing the other comments I have read. View is awesome. Food is good, but not great. Service was great. My wife can't eat gluten, and the staff was very accommodating, even remembering to omit the cracker on the amuse bouche, which was probably the tastiest element of the dinner. The grapefruit and mint sorbet between the courses was also a nice touch to clean the palate. The wine selection was more limited than other places in this price range, but the wines we had were great.
This is a great place for a sunset dinner. Parking can be a bit tricky. I will go back based on the service and the setting, and hope the food is slightly better next time.
Such a cute place to go on a date, or even if your parents are in town. The view is amazing, and the restaurant has a great beach-town-but-classy vibe. The service is totally outstanding. They have a great wine list and to-die-for bread rolls that they serve piping hot while you wait for your meal. Believe me when I say these are the best rolls you will ever have. That said, everything else is good here, too. The Beef Wellington is great, scallops are awesome, and the oysters are fabulous. I've been here twice now in the past two months and can't wait to go back!
The view , the food is surely great !!!
I want to give them 5 stars because of their fantastic service .
we came really late & the restaurant almost empty ...But the chef willing to stay over to cook our meal ! the waiter is so friendly .
The set up of the restaurant is abit behind , they should improve more on setting ,decor ....to make the restaurant worth 4-5 stars overall :)
I was there 2 years ago , plan to go back there for visit & surely want to eat there again , Glad to see many 4,5 stars update from others !
American cuisine with a French twist.
for my 28th barf day, he treated me out to the caprice ... it's a small place, that was once a home roughly 40 yrs ago ... there was no valet service, but there was quite a number of parking spots within a few steps from the restaurant.
i don't necessarily think it was some fancy place... but what can i say? it was cute ... the service was truly OUTSTANDING ... i couldn't have asked for better service in years ...
the food? well, i wish they would cut down on the sodium, it was a lil bit too much for me, and he even agreed ...
the prices were extremely reasonable, considering the fact that the view was amazing ... unfortunately, my birthday fell on an ugly, muggy, cold ass day that we weren't able to witness a sunset view ... it's a beautiful location, overlooking the bay, and the golden gate bridge ... it was definitely a fun moment when i spotted the palace of fine arts from afar ...
this place is all about pick and choose your own creation ...
4-course: $64
5-course: $72
6-course: $78
each person has to order a course set.. i was SURPRISINGLY full after the 2nd course .. surprise surprise ... OINK
we started off with their oysters & their seared sonoma foie gras. oysters, it was aright, nothing all that spectacular, and their foie gras, well, ive tried better .. it was good though ... the foie gras dish actually came out with french toast on the side, and THAT, itself, was TOO sweet for me.
main course:
*pate a choux gnocchi: it was pretty light, and i must say, it was probably my favorite .. the beans were fairly good and the corn, was tasty..
*day boat scallops: SUPER salty. you get 2 chunks, and honestly, it was bleh for me.
*oregon lamb: im not much a lamb lover, but it was fair ... you get 6 slices and they even had this smokey flavor thing to dip your lamb in, and i must say, it was good, but i would probably say that the angus beef was byfar better ...
*creekstone blk angus beef: you get 3 chunks and i must say, it was good, it wasn't AWESOME but it was good ... fair, to be exact.
dessert: we got their chocolate cake, (pic uploaded), and the chocolate cake was too gooey and too rich ..
overall food rating? 3 stars. SRY. it was definitely creative and well presented ... very cute, and all coming in teeny weeny portions, but well kept ...
for wine, rather than ordering a bottle, i decided to be different and got myself tea for $5 -- SHOOT, it was FRIKKIN COLD!!, and he decided to go for a glass of wine.. we left it up to the manager to decide what would taste best and what he would pair each dish with .. it wasn't all that ... but we did appreciate his kind gesture and his humor ...
photos uploaded.
i think this is a great place for any sort of special occasion especially since it's a bit aways from sf, but not really ... it's always so forever nice to get away from the hustling, bustling scene ...
Caprice is one of those restaurants that gets extra stars for being pretty...
...but don't get me wrong. There's nothing wrong with that! Dining is an experience, right?
Caprice has such a great vibe. It's fancy but feels casual at the same time. It's not at all pretentious as you would expect. You can just relax with a glass of wine while munching on some tasty food. You can watch the little boats go by as the fog rolls in and feel like you're on a date straight from a chick flick. Very lovely indeed.
The food is definitely good, but for the price, I wouldn't rave about it. It's right about average for "fine dining". One nice touch: they'll bring out this awesome pear wrapped in prosciutto thing right before your starters come out. Delicious!
We were quite pleased with Caprice but agreed to come back in the summertime - when we can actually see more than just city lights. I'd imagine the view to be even better with sunset. :)
Really good and perfect ambiance. I would definitely go back.
I brought my wife here on our 5th wedding anniversary. We both enjoyed the dining experience and would definitely come back again.
I was initially skeptical of a place known for their great views, but was pleasantly surprised that the quality of the food was on par with the gorgeous views of the Golden Gate bridge and surrounding area near Angel Island. Very romantic and definitely a place to go for special occasions.
We both opted for the 4 course tasting menu and ordered the following dishes (description from their menu)
Firsts: OYSTERS (Yuzu pearls, Champagne citrus sorbet, mignonette foam) & KAMPACHI (Sashimi, avocado, sea bean, icicle radish, Meyer lemon, chive blossom)
Definitely a unique way of serving oysters (there were two types, Kumamoto and I think Olympia) Kampachi was very fresh.
Seconds: SPRING PEA CONSOMM (Crab, Meyer lemon, fennel squid caviars, crme frache froth, mint ) & PTE CHOUX GNOCCHI (Ricotta milk, nettles, French asparagus, morels, fiddlehead ferns)
The Pea Consomme is a cold soup and very brothy. Gnocchi was tasty and the exotic vegetable accompaniment made a it very unique dish. When was the last time you had fiddlehead ferns?
Entrees: DAY BOAT SCALLOPS (Foie gras, morels, pea leaves, fiddlehead ferns, green garlic pea puree) & OREGON SPRING LAMB (Fava beans, fava leaves, purple potatoes, olive, asparagus, cipollini)
The scallops were jumbo size (3 total), like the kind you would find at Costco, perfectly pan seared and went well with.. there it is again.. fiddlehead ferns. The lamb tenderloin was pre-sliced and cooked medium rare. Very tasty and went well with the sides.
Sweets: CHOCOLATE CAKE (Espresso, chai ice cream, hazelnut almond biscotti, caramel) & BLACKBERRY (Angel food cake, mascarpone, orange ice cream, citrus pearls)
Chocolate cake was pretty standard fare. We were very impressed with the Blackberry dessert and could not get enough of it (pictures posted of our desserts).
Overall, great food, presentation & service, awesome views, very romantic and worth the drive to Tiburon if you're not living in SF.
Food: 3.5 stars
View/Ambiance: 4 stars
Service:3.5 stars
It's highly recommended by my girl friend, and she said they have the best foie gras. So I went. It was late, so the view was not really that spectacular. They light above my table shines right into my eyes, making me almost blind. The waitress switched the angle, so it was better. However, they should figure something out to improve the lighting, like putting some light outside than inside at night or something. The waitress was very friendly, and nice, but sometimes unattentive. And she messed the wine we ordered, which is fine since they are both white but I could tell immediately.
First Course:
Seared Foie Gras: Overall I liked the taste very much, the foie gras was so small, though seared perfectly. It lies on top of a bed of something that tastes close to the texture of a pancake. I loved the bourbon icecream on the side, it's a great accompany to the foie gras. And there's some sweet powder on the side too, goes well, but not special. Chapeau makes a killer foie gras, so I was not impressed here.
Second Course:
Lamb with cranberry beans, cherry tomato, smoked eggplant. I loved the lamb, it's cooked to perfection. It's sliced after it's pan seared and baked, so the inside is perfectly pink and juicy, exactly the medium rare I liked. It almost tastes like a fillet mignon to me, with a slight hint of lamb. The waitress said it's the spring lamb so it doesn't have the strong lamb taste.
Third Course:
Goat cheese with quince paste, apple pear, and brioche. I liked the cheese, loved the combination with quince paste, but other than that, the pear didn't really go well with the cheese, and the brioche was too delicate that after it's toasted, it crumbles everywhere. And, TOO much cheese. My friend and I shared it, and we almost couldn't finish it. It would be perfect if there are 2 kinds of cheese instead of 6 slices (or 4? forgot.)
The dessert:
Local berries with panna cotta, creme fraiche. Very light and refreshing, not overly sweet.
Overall:
The chef makes a great effort to explore the possibility of the ingredients. But there's a common thread underlying every single courses last night: whatever on the plate don't really go harmoniously. Everything is perfectly executed, but they don't present ONE perfect dish together. The large picture is missing. The chef is probably young, but has lots of potential.
My girlfriend took me to Caprice for my birthday - a total surprise.
The food: we had the tasting menu. The food was top-notch. Very tasty, creative and extremely well presented. I was impressed quite impressed.
The service was just right. Very attentive waiting staff with minimal intrusion. The chef checked on us personally which I thought was well done and a nice touch.
The ambiance is breath-taking. The restaurant is sitting right on the edge of the water, across from the Angel island and overlooking the SF bay. Without the fog, you can clearly see the city, the GG bridge and Belvedere. The rustic building features minimal decor but windows are huge and provide all the view you can enjoy.
Overall, I love this place. Highly recommended.

We came here to celebrate our anniversary while in Tiburon for the weekend.
We had reservations at 7:30pm from http://Opentable.com but over slept so didn't wake up in time. We called to ask if we could move it to 8pm and were told by the maitre d that he wasn't sure if there was any space available at that time. So fine, we rushed there (it was actually only 1/4 mile from our hotel) and made it. There were only a few tables with ample space left (only 2 servers with about 4 tables total). I really don't understand why we couldn't have moved it by 1/2 an hour. No one else came in that night. I understand it's a hassle for them to move everything around but not like space was tight at all. The dinner would have just lasted a little bit longer so I can only deduce that they didn't want to stay too late.
Anyway, service was excellent. Our server knew to leave us alone for a romantic evening and was not intrusive. He explained how to order and explained all dishes very thoroughly and intelligently. Everything from microsalad to truffle gelee. Although my boyfriend jokes that everything about the dinner was micro. But he's a piggy! So we'll just have to ignore his strangely large appetite. I felt the food was sufficient.
The bread was soo good! But maybe I've been bread deprived so any bread tastes good. But I think it was so good because it was baked in house and the butter was fatteningly creamy.
The chef came out to say hello. He was pretty cute and young. Definitely added some eye candy to the end of my meal. Hahahaha. His girlfriend is one lucky girl. Wait..unless I was too tipsy from the wine and had wine goggles on...but really I am pretty sure he was cute!
Basically the menu ranges in price depending on how many courses you want:
Three course ~56, Four course ~66, Five course ~74, Six course ~84, Seven course ~94
The course categories are Firsts, Seconds, Seafood, Meat, Cheese, and Dessert. However, you are not limited to only 1 selection from each category. You can double up on different Firsts , etc. Also, each person do not have to order the same number of courses.
This is great because my boyfriend and I ordered different selections from some of the course categories so we could get a taste of each others'.
And the Chef visits nearby farmers' markets to update his offerings seasonally or even monthly. So pictures and menu from website varies.
The view is nice but it would have been equally romantic if we had come a bit early to watch the sunset.
Overall, I had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed trying each dish. We also received some complimentary amuse bouche plates.
It was also nice how they wrote Happy Anniversary on our dessert.
SEE PICTURES.
Was not a fan of the Monkfish served 2 ways though. I love red meat!
Awesome food and superb service!
And an incredible view!!!
I wish I had known about this place before!
View is 5 stars, the service was great until we were seated. Food ehhhh, not what I expected from the location and reviews...am I too picky, no I don't think so...not one item I would recommend that we tried.
What can i say, shocking views paired with great service and decent food. This place sure does come through for me. I will return.
The view was a 5, the service was a 4, and the food was a 3. I wouldn't rush back here. I think for the money there are much better places to eat with views just as impressive.
One of my favorite restaurants yet I cannot give a full 5 stars given some slight inconsistencies of the food. Nothing terribly worrisome and certainly overlooked when sitting at a window table at sunset. Overall, agree with the high praise this restaurant receives and I look forward to dining at this fine restaurant shortly.
Caprice's menu certainly offers a variety of meals that can be composed into layered courses. It was easy to see why this restaurant's namesake enticed diners to change their mind- I found it hard to compose my course selections fluctuating with the menu choices as I read along.
There were certainly a few interesting ones worth trying like the Kampachi or the Lamb with Burgundy Truffle sauce. The vegetarian fares featured three vegetable entrees (a particular one I would like to try: the Gnocchi with chanterelle mushrooms).
The restaurant occupied a solitary building by the bay. The indoor fireplace was the main attraction with various tables alongside the panormic window providing the view of the bay and the distant SF city skyline. The decor was rather sparse which made me think of the previous tenants of the building- I think the furniture belonged to the previous restaurant?...There was an intimate ambiance- but most of it emanated from the serene and twinkling city lights outside.
The following entrees comprised the courses (3 plates selection) for each:
Course A:
ESCARGOTS porcini truffle gelee, garlic froth, lemon thyme- This was an interesting presentation- shaped like a fish, I did not find it visually appealing. The frothy garlic foam that ummmm reminded me of slugs did not whet my appetite...I did however try it (ahhh things you do for yelp) and for what it lacked visually tasted quite well.
VENISON celery root, pomegranate, pistachio, evergreen - The medallion pieces of venison was well prepared (medium well) with just a hint of rosy center- it was plainly seasoned which was right for this entree. The pomegranate reduction was rich and thick only a slight dip into it was needed.
PIERRE ROBERT fresh fig & fig compote, honey, brioche, arugula- This was a wonderful cheese plate- sweet, fresh, dewy soft brie that was complimented with the succulent fig slices and buttery brioche.
Course B:
OYSTERS Gewrztraminer sorbet, mignonette air, yuzu gelee- Oysters were deliciously sweet and fresh- their accompanying preparation 'sauces' left lingering taste of melon, sweet and tarty shallots and quince jam.
PRAWN nettle risotto, Serenita, shellfish consomme, lobster mushroom- I was disappointed by this plate (there were only 2 prawns!!!). The risotto was not quite cooked it arrived lukewarm. It was hard to pinpoint what I didn't like about this plate- was it the heavy parmesan taste? the nettle in the risotto had a lingering metallic taste and the consomme although a fine broth was lost in this presentation.
APPLE tart tatin, pink pearl, butterscotch, apple ice cream- I liked this dessert- but I was hoping to find a rich shiny caramelized layer of apples- but I settled for the apple pie rendition. The accompanying ice cream was an added bonus!
PS- Don't forget to ask if a plate is still available as some plates are popular than others (the halibut was out on my visit).
Please clean entry carpet as it looks quite used. Sorry but I can't help but notice...I give this dining experience a solid 3.5 stars. The service was courteous and simple.
FYI: Three course ~56, Four course ~66, Five course ~74, Six course ~84, Seven course ~94
Looking for an office holiday party location and you want to get out of the city? Take the 4:25 ferry from the SF ferry building to Tiburon and watch the sun set behind the Golden Gate. Arrive at 4:45. Take 10 steps to Guaymas and have drinks on their fabulous deck until 6:00. Walk 6 minutes up to Caprice and prepare to have a friggin' ball at Caprice. After having a friggin' ball, prearrange with Events West to provide a shuttle back to the city. We were 55 people of all ages and all tastes, and everyone had a blast.
This is the letter I am writing to Caprice for the fantastic holiday party they provided for my firm:
We had the absolute best time at The Caprice! You provide for an amazing party. The restaurant looked beautiful, the service was impeccable and the food was outstanding! I couldn't have asked for anything more. It was completely faultless. And the fact that you make a phenomenal margarita from scratch (I never would have expected it), just had people positively singing about the restaurant... We are huge margarita fans. All night I was commended on my restaurant choice. And every time we reached a new stage of the evening, I got an onslaught of compliments. You made me look REALLY good!
And on a personal note, your professionalism and calm demeanor were the ideal accompaniment for a slightly frantic crowd. Nervous employees were soon at ease and thoroughly enjoying themselves within a matter of minutes. You provide such a welcoming environment. And on top of everything, you made it easy for me to relax and enjoy myself. I really couldn't have asked for more.
Absolutely all the best to you and to everyone at The Caprice! You guys are pros.
I went here for Thanksgiving dinner with my dad, as a compromise. He likes amazing views, and I like really good food.
Pros:
The view was indeed amazing.
The turkey special was really well cooked. Probably one of the more moist turkeys that I've had.
The prawn risotto was really really tasty. Even though it had a very modern looking foam on top.
Cons:
The waiter was a little bit inattentive, although that could have been because my dad talks a lot, so we always looked busy.
They weren't able to substitute a desert into the prix fixe thanksgiving meal, even though the desert was the same price - something about the software inventory system.
Every table does have a view, but the view is usually better from one chair - for example, I had my back to SF, and was looking out a Tiburon.
I'd go back, if i had a really special occasion, and had the spare money. I was impressed, but not wowed.
Food used to be more expensive but much more creative before the chef changed. Now it is more casual and simple food.
*Those pictures posted here are from old chef.
Still, it is very good Marin restaurant. so you shoud try once.
Seriously? Has no one noticed that quality of food in Marin is inversely proportional to the view. The 3 most disappointing restaurants are Caprice, Spinnaker and Horizons. There are a few more water-afront restaurants in Sausalito that are not worth even remembering how disappointing they are.
Caprice is ok, but just ok. Go for the view and the nice people, but low your expectations on the food.
The view is great. Had dinner here a couple of months ago (yes, I know my review is late) and the sunset was beautiful. It reminded me of looking out of a cruise ship.
The decor inside is simple and elegant - very relaxing.
As for the food, I remember it as good, but nothing that blew my mind. The prices aren't ridiculous for fine dining, and you get what you expect. If you happen to be in the area ( I had just come back from Angel Island), or if you're driving down from Napa and don't want to get muddled in the city, this might be a great choice for dinner for a date.
First I would like to say I have been dining at the Caprice for decades, albeit just a few visits per year. For me, this is more a "special place" to dine rather than a regular hangout. Recently, Chef Gregg Sessler left the Caprice to open a new wine & Tapas bar in Portsmouth, NH. I feel Gregg did a great job elevating the menu while at the Caprice, but he had a chance to be part owner of his own place in the town where he was from and he moved away mid 2008.
Christmas Eve I was excited to see what the new chef was cooking up. Was it the same bill of fare or something new? The answer... Something new! The menu is fresh and offers the kind of simple straight forward meals you would expect for a restaurant that has such delicious views of the San Francisco Bay. Since menus change, I recommend you check their website.
I can only mention that service may be a little slow and we did have to ask three times for more bread, but they were very busy. Still, we shouldn't have had to ask more than once.
Caprice is one of my two favorite romantic restaurants in Marin. You may want to pay the corkage and bring a great bottle of wine with you, but they do have a full bar for starters.
Enjoy!
Gorgeous and I mean gorgeous view of the Golden Gate Bridge. It's nice to come right before sunset so you can see a clear view of the ocean and the far shore houses on the opposite side. Tiburon seems like a quiet and peaceful neighborhood. I really liked how the restaurant and the roads weren't so crowded. My boyfriend took me here for a lovely birthday treat and boy was I surprised! Totally romantic scenary and the service was great. We ended up ordering a 3-course meal and I must say all the food was superb. We started off with cocktail shrimp and oyster shoots for appetizers and the seafood was fresh as can be! I love it when my seafood is good quality, because I mean most seafood is raw, so getting the best is important to prevent future food sickness. Afterwards, our entree was ready with scallops and fresh garlic-basil baked salmon. I ordered the baked salmon and I loved it! Probably best salmon I had in the longest time. It came with vegetables that were seasoned just perfectly to fit the pairing with the salmon. My boyfriend also loved the scallops and thought it was perfectly seasoned. For our dessert, we ordered a type of banana split and it tasted so good. I have a sweet-tooth for good sweets. This is definitely a keeper and I am so coming back when I'm in the area again.
I fell in love with The Caprice when I was living in Tiburon. As far as cuisine goes, Tiburon itself has little to offer. The Caprice is like an undiscovered jewel. I suspect many of the locals just haven't visited since Greg Sessler has lent his talents--and let me tell you, they are missing out. The food is perfection. Creative, well-executed, fresh, delicious. I like how the menu is setup. You can decide how many courses you'd like and have a few dishes to choose from. The view is amazing. Like Cliff House amazing, but with great food. The place itself could use a little renovating but they do well with what they've got. The ambiance manages to be romantic and the table settings classy. I recommend making reservations so you can enjoy sunset, then walking along the water to Sam's for a nightcap. Perfect!
K says: A cute and cozy little restaurant with a big city view. The ingredients were all extremely fresh, and the menu was well composed. I especially liked the venison with dandelions and potatoes. We're looking forward to great things out of Gregg Sessler! A rising star.
J says: Had too much wine (nice wine list!) to remember all the details, but the shrimp appetizer with pancetta was tasty, and the scallops in my entree were huge, super fresh, and seared just right, though I didn't care for the risotto (a bit bland) underneath. Fantastic views of the bay! Makes for a nice romantic night out.
First time here was hubby's 30th birthday. Surprised him with a limo waiting and off we go... Traffic didn't bother us as we enjoyed champagne and exchanged sweet nothings to each other - silly us, we were young...totally dressed up for the occasion. Him in a tux I got him as the b-day gift and me in floor length evening gown...looking good!
Right, back to the restaurant. We had expected this fancy dig...but it's not. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice place but somehow we had expected something really grand but turns out to be a non-pretentious place with a great view, great staff and fantastic food. It's also very cozy. It's a great place to share with a special someone anytime.
One time we decided to just swing by after a day in Sausalito for dinner - we were in casual gear (shorts and tees) and we got the same fantastic service, and no funny look from the staff.
We have yet to be disappointed so you won't!
They now have prix fixe menu...
6 of us had some time to kill on Sat. 10/11/08, waiting for our reservation at the Mexican restaurant nearby, so we decided to go for a walk along the water. We just chanced on this place (it is pretty inconspicuous), and, on a whim, decided to get some wine and appetizers before our dinner at the Mexican place.
What a good decision that was! We ordered a botte of this wonderful Santa Barbara pinot, and the cow's cheese and Patacabra goat's milk cheese appetizer with the bread, jam and pistachios. That, along with the piping hot rolls, the wonderful waitress and the awesome view (it was a gorgeous day that day) made it such a delightful experience. I figured that if the appetizer was that good, the rest of the food must be, too. The other reviews posted here just confirmed my hunch!
We almost ended up canceling our other reservation, but in the end we decided to honor our original reservation, so we left for the Mexican place. In hindsight, we all felt that we should have just kept our rear ends at Caprice, and continued with the rest of the dinner!
I definitely want to go back there again, and spend the whole evening, enjoying a good dinner, wine and, of course, the view.
This is one of our favorite restaurants. The food is amazing, especially the chocolate sampler dessert plate and how the chef writes "Happy Birthday to - " in drizzled chocolate on the plate. I like how formal the food is yet how local and "sailor casual" the diners are. It's a great "apres yachting" crowd in there, and I can appreciate the sailing buzz even though I don't have a yacht. You just can't beat the view.
This restaurant is so good that we named one of our daughters Ella Caprice! (-:
The view is incredible--you feel as though you're on the water. The ambiance is charming and romantic, with a level of elegance that requires dressy attire.
This restaurant is simply lovely, absolutely perfect for those 'special ocassions.'
I was trying to impress my girlfriend, so I took her to Caprice for Prom. The place was really nice and cozy. We were in our Prom outfits, so, we weren't underdressed, maybe a little overdressed.
I don't really remember what we got, but that was 3 years ago, and I'm planning on taking her here again. It's expensive but, it gives you brownie points if you are on a date because of the good food and nice view.
And if you take your girlfriend to the Prom, don't forget to watch a movie at the Tiburon theater. It's like a classic prom; Dinner, Movie, Dance.
Awesome!
Needed a place for early dinner before a 7pm concert in Belvedere, and Caprice was happy to oblige. A 5pm dinner might be early for anyone, but when it's next to a window that looks at a Golden Gate sunset and is filled with the most delicious food imaginable, it's OK with me.
The 3 of us decided it was the annual holiday event so splurged with the 4 course option (we did after all have to hit a concert so couldn't linger). Hamachi, escargot, the veggie / gnocchi dish and scallops were my 4 choices. I love that you can pick 4 of anything - "firsts", "seconds", "vegetables", etc. etc. - instead of being required to pick a meat or fish. They adjusted the size of my fish dish to entree portion as a result, and I was REALLY full by the time we were done - 4 courses may be a stretch for those of lesser appetite.
Hamachi was flawlessly fresh and done with a citrus-based dressing - not sweet though, more flinty. The snails were with an earthy, deep mushroom ragout sort of thing (hard to remember now, all those flavors!) I love brussels and they were the featured veg, not many gnocchi to weigh it down - delicious and warming. Then 2 big scallops and a fantastic piece of foie gras (I don't have that more than every 10 years or so, and it was worth the wait.)
The service was very good, especially when we explained our concert timeline. They felt as if they were rushing us a little, but it was our schedule.
GREAT place, would go back for a special event where the food and the view - not the interior ambience - are the focal points.
We hadn't been here in quite a while, but with friends from London in town we thought we'd give it a try.
The view is absolutely superb, one of the best around. The service was great - very attentive without being overwhelming.
The surprise was the food. In past trips (admittedly before the current chef), it had been very good. This trip it was absolutely superb.
The chilled corn and tomato soup (actually two soups in one bowl) was a huge hit. Our other appetizer was the Kampachi, which was very good (although not quite as good as the soup). The Alaskan halibut was superb, the lamb was perfectly cooked and delicious, and the Kurobuta port (my choice) was an absolute delight (this from someone who almost never orders pork).
All-in-all, a simply delightful evening. The food alone will bring me back, and the view was merely icing on the cake. The only (little) note is that the building itself is rather old, so don't expect a slick, modern interior.
This is a very romantic setting for contemporary American cuisine with a French flair, with an emphasis on fresh seafood. Buttery roasted escargots or sauteed prawns with prosciutto are nice preludes to the main event, such as poached salmon with lemon-caper-anchovy dressing or vegetable couscous with chervil-almond pesto. Not surprisingly for a room with a view this spectacular, everything is on the expensive side, with entrees in the $23 - 34.00 range. Service is attentive without being obtrusive. Try to time your dinner to coincide with the sun setting over the Golden Gate, and should the fog roll in before you arrive, cancel your reservation, because without the sweeping vista of the bay, you'll be less likely to find the high tab was worth it.
Service was excellent, food was good.
The quality of the food matched the lovely ambiance.
I had the monkfish, scallops and beef. I would advise ordering three entrees and skipping the dessert, frankly more bang for your buck.
Regardless, everything was delicious. Food would go excellent with a big Kali Cab or Barossa Shiraz, especially the more gamey dishes. Naturally, the sav blancs and chards go much better with the seafood, but a light pinot can still pair well.
Beautiful View. Window view of the Golden Gate Bridge. Come for the view and stay for food. But..."Not a destination restaurant."
Come here if you have out-of-town guests or you have a date to bring.
Lots of seafood on the menu like the crab & lobster bisque and Alaskan halibut. Fish seasonally changes.. Always, for the non-seafood eaters - the duck breast, lamb, filet mignon.
Love the view, the food and ambiance. Thank god for the valet parking... my boyfriend took me there when he proposed to me over dinner and I was wearing 3 inch heels - so I appreciated not having to hobble down the street to the parking lot down the hill. Apparently my fiance had arranged with the staff to work out his proposal and it went really well . We were well attended to by the staff and from the chef bringing us some "romantic" treats to eat. We stayed until the place closed down when my fiance fell to one knee to propose.. it was very sweet. Great romantic place.
