Love the view, the food and ambiance. Thank god for the valet parking... my boyfriend took me there when he proposed to me over dinner and I was wearing 3 inch heels - so I appreciated not having to hobble down the street to the parking lot down the hill.   Apparently my fiance had arranged with the staff to work out his proposal and it went really well . We were well attended to by the staff and from the chef bringing us some "romantic" treats to eat.  We stayed until the place closed down when my fiance fell to one knee to propose.. it was very sweet.  Great romantic place.

We came here to celebrate our anniversary while in Tiburon for the weekend.

We had reservations at 7:30pm from Opentable.com but over slept so didn't wake up in time. We called to ask if we could move it to 8pm and were told by the maitre d that he wasn't sure if there was any space available at that time. So fine, we rushed there (it was actually only 1/4 mile from our hotel) and made it. There were only a few tables with ample space left (only 2 servers with about 4 tables total). I really don't understand why we couldn't have moved it by 1/2 an hour. No one else came in that night. I understand it's a hassle for them to move everything around but not like space was tight at all. The dinner would have just lasted a little bit longer so I can only deduce that they didn't want to stay too late.

Anyway,  service was excellent. Our server knew to leave us alone for a romantic evening and was not intrusive. He explained how to order and explained all dishes very thoroughly and intelligently. Everything from microsalad to truffle gelee. Although my boyfriend jokes that everything about the dinner was micro. But he's a piggy! So we'll just have to ignore his strangely large appetite. I felt the food was sufficient.

The bread was soo good! But maybe I've been bread deprived so any bread tastes good. But I think it was so good because it was baked in house and the butter was fatteningly creamy.

The chef came out to say hello. He was pretty cute and young. Definitely added some eye candy to the end of my meal. Hahahaha. His girlfriend is one lucky girl. Wait..unless I was too tipsy from the wine and had wine goggles on...but really I am pretty sure he was cute!

Basically the menu ranges in price depending on how many courses you want:

Three course ~56, Four course ~66, Five course ~74, Six course ~84, Seven course ~94

The course categories are Firsts, Seconds, Seafood, Meat, Cheese, and Dessert.  However, you are not limited to only 1 selection from each category. You can double up on different Firsts , etc. Also, each person do not have to order the same number of courses.

This is great because my boyfriend and I ordered different selections from some of the course categories so we could get a taste of each others'.

And the Chef visits nearby farmers' markets to update his offerings seasonally or even monthly. So pictures and menu from website varies.

The view is nice but it would have been equally romantic if we had come a bit early to watch the sunset.

Overall, I had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed trying each dish. We also received some complimentary  amuse bouche plates.

It was also nice how they wrote Happy Anniversary on our dessert.

SEE PICTURES.

Was not a fan of the Monkfish served 2 ways though. I love red meat!

4.5 stars.  I liked this place.  Classy and cozy at the same time, great view.  Beautiful presentation of the food.  Good quality ingredients (included natural, organic items as I remember), and with enough interesting/rare items to add adventure into our dining experience there.  My only complaint is that when we when there one night and got a rack of venison, and went back there the next night for the same thing, then gave us the 2nd night's one (same price), but only 1/2 the thickness (1/2 the amount of meat!).  But all in all still a positive experience.  Service was great.

Service was excellent, food was good.

The quality of the food matched the lovely ambiance.

I had the monkfish, scallops and beef.  I would advise ordering three entrees and skipping the dessert, frankly more bang for your buck.

Regardless, everything was delicious. Food would go excellent with a big Kali Cab or Barossa Shiraz, especially the more gamey dishes. Naturally, the sav blancs and chards go much better with the seafood, but a light pinot can still pair well.

Went back after a few year absence and was very impressed.  Enjoyed the coursed menu and great service.  Although it was too dark to enjoy the view the restaurant was quiet and the server was great.  Well worth the money for a nice evening out.

With wondrous food and an even better view of the City this is truly one of the classiest places in Marin County. It is however quite expensive for a leisurely dinner but a perfect spot for a special occasion. Be prepared however if you are under the age of sixty. My girlfriend and I went here for Valentine's Day a few years back and were the youngest people in there by about forty years. The wine list is also very exceptional with plenty of Stag's Leap and Silver Oak to go around. Luckily for them though, they have valet parking as well because the parking lots in the area are small and ridiculously priced!

Beautiful View.  Window view of the Golden Gate Bridge.  Come for the view and stay for food.  But..."Not a destination restaurant."

Come here if you have out-of-town guests or you have a date to bring.

Lots of seafood on the menu like the crab & lobster bisque and Alaskan halibut.  Fish seasonally changes..  Always, for the non-seafood eaters - the duck breast, lamb, filet mignon.

Looking for an office holiday party location and you want to get out of the city?  Take the 4:25 ferry from the SF ferry building to Tiburon and watch the sun set behind the Golden Gate.  Arrive at 4:45. Take 10 steps to Guaymas and have drinks on their fabulous deck until 6:00. Walk 6 minutes up to Caprice and prepare to have a friggin' ball at Caprice.  After having a friggin' ball, prearrange with Events West to provide a shuttle back to the city.  We were 55 people of all ages and all tastes, and everyone had a blast.

This is the letter I am writing to Caprice for the fantastic holiday party they provided for my firm:

We had the absolute best time at The Caprice!  You provide for an amazing party. The restaurant looked beautiful, the service was impeccable and the food was outstanding!  I couldn't have asked for anything more.  It was completely faultless.  And the fact that you make a phenomenal margarita from scratch (I never would have expected it), just had people positively singing about the restaurant... We are huge margarita fans.  All night I was commended on my restaurant choice.  And every time we reached a new stage of the evening, I got an onslaught of compliments.   You made me look REALLY good!

And on a personal note, your professionalism and calm demeanor were the ideal accompaniment for a slightly frantic crowd.  Nervous employees were soon at ease and thoroughly enjoying themselves within a matter of minutes.  You provide such a welcoming environment.  And on top of everything, you made it easy for me to relax and enjoy myself.  I really couldn't have asked for more.

Absolutely all the best to you and to everyone at The Caprice!  You guys are pros.

This is one of our favorite restaurants. The food is amazing, especially the chocolate sampler dessert plate and how the chef writes "Happy Birthday to - " in drizzled chocolate on the plate. I like how formal the food is yet how local and "sailor casual" the diners are. It's a great "apres yachting" crowd in there, and I can appreciate the sailing buzz even though I don't have a yacht. You just can't beat the view.

This restaurant is so good that we named one of our daughters Ella Caprice! (-:

I went here for Thanksgiving dinner with my dad, as a compromise.  He likes amazing views, and I like really good food.

Pros:
The view was indeed amazing.
The turkey special was really well cooked.  Probably one of the more moist turkeys that I've had.
The prawn risotto was really really tasty.  Even though it had a very modern looking foam on top.

Cons:
The waiter was a little bit inattentive, although that could have been because my dad talks a lot, so we always looked busy.
They weren't able to substitute a desert into the prix fixe thanksgiving meal, even though the desert was the same price - something about the software inventory system.
Every table does have a view, but the view is usually better from one chair - for example, I had my back to SF, and was looking out a Tiburon.

I'd go back, if i had a really special occasion, and had the spare money. I was impressed, but not wowed.

Caprice's menu certainly offers a variety of meals that can be composed into layered courses.  It was easy to see why this restaurant's namesake enticed diners to change their mind- I found it hard to compose my course selections fluctuating with the menu choices as I read along.

There were certainly a few interesting ones worth trying like the Kampachi or the Lamb with Burgundy Truffle sauce.  The vegetarian fares featured three vegetable entrees (a particular one I would like to try: the Gnocchi with chanterelle mushrooms).

The restaurant occupied a solitary building by the bay.  The indoor fireplace was the main attraction with various tables alongside the panormic window providing the view of the bay and the distant SF city skyline.  The decor was rather sparse which made me think of the previous tenants of the building- I think the furniture belonged to the previous restaurant?...There was an intimate ambiance- but most of it emanated from the serene and twinkling city lights outside.

The following entrees comprised the courses (3 plates selection) for each:

Course A:
ESCARGOTS porcini truffle gelee, garlic froth, lemon thyme- This was an interesting presentation- shaped like a fish, I did not find it visually appealing.  The frothy garlic foam that ummmm reminded me of slugs did not whet my appetite...I did however try it (ahhh things you do for yelp) and for what it lacked visually tasted quite well.

VENISON celery root, pomegranate, pistachio, evergreen - The medallion pieces of venison was well prepared (medium well) with just a hint of rosy center- it was plainly seasoned which was right for this entree. The pomegranate reduction was rich and thick only a slight dip into it was needed.

PIERRE ROBERT fresh fig & fig compote, honey, brioche, arugula- This was a wonderful cheese plate- sweet, fresh, dewy soft brie that was complimented with the succulent fig slices and buttery brioche.

Course B:

OYSTERS Gewrztraminer sorbet, mignonette air, yuzu gelee- Oysters were deliciously sweet and fresh- their accompanying preparation 'sauces' left lingering taste of melon, sweet and tarty shallots and quince jam.

PRAWN nettle risotto, Serenita, shellfish consomme, lobster mushroom-  I was disappointed by this plate (there were only 2 prawns!!!).  The risotto was not quite cooked it arrived lukewarm.  It was hard to pinpoint what I didn't like about this plate- was it the heavy parmesan taste? the nettle in the risotto had a lingering metallic taste and the consomme although a fine broth was lost in this presentation.

APPLE tart tatin, pink pearl, butterscotch, apple ice cream-  I liked this dessert- but I was hoping to find a rich shiny caramelized layer of apples- but I settled for the apple pie rendition.  The accompanying ice cream was an added bonus!

PS- Don't forget to ask if a plate is still available as some plates are popular than others (the halibut was out on my visit).
Please clean entry carpet as it looks quite used.  Sorry but I can't help but notice...I give this dining experience a solid 3.5 stars.  The service was courteous and simple.
FYI: Three course ~56, Four course ~66, Five course ~74, Six course ~84, Seven course ~94

Needed a place for early dinner before a 7pm concert in Belvedere, and Caprice was happy to oblige.  A 5pm dinner might be early for anyone, but when it's next to a window that looks at a Golden Gate sunset and is filled with the most delicious food imaginable, it's OK with me.

The 3 of us decided it was the annual holiday event so splurged with the 4 course option (we did after all have to hit a concert so couldn't linger).  Hamachi, escargot, the veggie / gnocchi dish and scallops were my 4 choices. I love that you can pick 4 of anything - "firsts", "seconds", "vegetables", etc. etc. - instead of being required to pick a meat or fish.  They adjusted the size of my fish dish to entree portion as a result, and I was REALLY full by the time we were done - 4 courses may be a stretch for those of lesser appetite.

Hamachi was flawlessly fresh and done with a citrus-based dressing - not sweet though, more flinty.  The snails were with an earthy, deep mushroom ragout sort of thing (hard to remember now, all those flavors!)  I love brussels and they were the featured veg, not many gnocchi to weigh it down - delicious and warming. Then 2 big scallops and a fantastic piece of foie gras (I don't have that more than every 10 years or so, and it was worth the wait.)

The service was very good, especially when we explained our concert timeline. They felt as if they were rushing us a little, but it was our schedule.

GREAT place, would go back for a special event where the food and the view - not the interior ambience - are the focal points.

First time here was hubby's 30th birthday.  Surprised him with a limo waiting and off we go...  Traffic didn't bother us as we enjoyed champagne and exchanged sweet nothings to each other - silly us, we were young...totally dressed up for the occasion.  Him in a tux I got him as the b-day gift and me in floor length evening gown...looking good!

Right, back to the restaurant.  We had expected this fancy dig...but it's not.  Don't get me wrong, it's a nice place but somehow we had expected something really grand but turns out to be a non-pretentious place with a great view, great staff and fantastic food.  It's also very cozy.  It's a great place to share with a special someone anytime.

One time we decided to just swing by after a day in Sausalito for dinner - we were in casual gear (shorts and tees) and we got the same fantastic service, and no funny look from the staff.

We have yet to be disappointed so you won't!

They now have prix fixe menu...

I was trying to impress my girlfriend, so I took her to Caprice for Prom.  The place was really nice and cozy.  We were in our Prom outfits, so, we weren't underdressed, maybe a little overdressed.

I don't really remember what we got, but that was 3 years ago, and I'm planning on taking her here again.  It's expensive but, it gives you brownie points if you are on a date because of the good food and nice view.

And if you take your girlfriend to the Prom, don't forget to watch a movie at the Tiburon theater.  It's like a classic prom; Dinner, Movie, Dance.

Awesome!

Lovely. The food didn't surprise me, but the view made up for that. My friend ordered the wine sampler and one glass never made it to our table. The waitress reasonably took it off the bill. I ordered the steak but when my dish came, the steak wasn't there! Again, the waitress apologized and took the dish with only the garnish and side vegetables back and put the steak on it. Unfortunately by then the meat was overcooked. The service was wonderful dispite the little mishaps. But the waitress had a long night because we had a party of six and one of us came super late. He was coming from LA and on his way he stopped by an accident scene to save life before the paramedics arrived. Caprice didn't have much decor because it didn't need any. The desserts are not anything special (Clementine in SF does a better job), again, the view made up for that. Will go back.

I've been here a couple times; most recently a couple nights ago.  This is a cute and cozy restaurant known for having a great view from every table - sitting right on the water with a gorgeous view of the golden gate bridge and angel island.  Usually, with such a great view, I'd be a bit skeptical of the food.  Don't be fooled  by the amazing view- this place also has great, seasonal, fresh and creative food with a changing menu.  I had a fantastic and impeccable meal the first time I was here in the beginning of 2007 and a great meal a couple nights ago.  We got the oysters on the 1/2 shell, market vegetables (squash blossoms and a corn panna cotta), corn and tomato soup, pea soup with crab (I think they had run out of crab that night and replaced it with lobster) truffle,  scallops with truffle, Kurobuta, and lamb.  Everything was delicious.  I would've given this place 5 stars but the pea soup was a bit under seasoned and the scallops were slightly sandy (but perfectly cooked).  The service was great - attentive and friendly.  I'm definitely going back here again.

K says: A cute and cozy little restaurant with a big city view. The ingredients were all extremely fresh, and the menu was well composed. I especially liked the venison with dandelions and potatoes.  We're looking forward to great things out of Gregg Sessler! A rising star.

J says: Had too much wine (nice wine list!) to remember all the details, but the shrimp appetizer with pancetta was tasty, and the scallops in my entree were huge, super fresh, and seared just right, though I didn't care for the risotto (a bit bland) underneath.  Fantastic views of the bay!  Makes for a nice romantic night out.

This is a very romantic setting for contemporary American cuisine with a French flair, with an emphasis on fresh seafood. Buttery roasted escargots or sauteed prawns with prosciutto are nice preludes to the main event, such as poached salmon with lemon-caper-anchovy dressing or vegetable couscous with chervil-almond pesto. Not surprisingly for a room with a view this spectacular, everything is on the expensive side, with entrees in the $23 - 34.00 range. Service is attentive without being obtrusive. Try to time your dinner to coincide with the sun setting over the Golden Gate, and should the fog roll in before you arrive, cancel your reservation, because without the sweeping vista of the bay, you'll be less likely to find the high tab was worth it.
