4 reviews for Capriccio Pizza
I grew up on Capriccio Pizza. Every Friday night, my Dad would head to Capriccio's and chat with the owners while he waited for 2 pies. They were always delicious. In high school, my friends and I would even walk a little further just to grab a slice here at lunch.
Visiting my parents this past weekend, I enjoyed pizza for the first time in years from Capriccio and wasn't disappointed. The crust is thin and it's always heavy on the cheese, but it brought back great memories. It's a great local spot that shouldn't be missed when in Croton.
Capriccio's was always a treat as a kid. It had it's ups and downs, but the highs were usually very high and the lows were always understood to be temporary forgivable errors. When I return these days, I can't help but expect it to serve the same lousy pizza with fake cheese that is prevalent elsewhere today. But Cappriccio has yet to disappoint. The pizza is as good as it has ever been. Capriccio II just up the street does not compare.
I have to start with a warning- DO NOT expect reasonable sanity on a friday night. Outside of that I was amazed by the way the pie making staff worked together.
Hubby and I walked in an order and wandered next door to choose a movie or two for rental, thinking it would be ready when we returned, Not only was it not ready- it was lost. Here is where it gets good- they got right on it even though they were making and baking pies as fast as they could get them out the door.
We had heard they were the best pie in town, but I have to say I was not overly impressed. They were average to me. I have not lived in the metro area long but we are doing a bang up job of trying pies out to find the best and say we did our duty by NY style pizza pies.
Personally we will stick to the pie place closer to our house but Capriccio's is not bad by far.
I hear they are the only place around with Chicken Marsala pie.
All in all, it is "ok" not bad or amazing either way and prices are reasonable. Remember that we were in on a crazy friday night- maybe it is better when things are a little more steady?
I haven't been to Capriccio's pizza in more than ten years, but I have a lot of good memories of delicious pizza and calzones. Capriccios is probably what I've compared all other pizza places in my life to, and haven't really found anywhere better. If you're in Croton-On-Hudson for some reason (hey, it's a stop on the Metro North) and you want some AWESOME pizza, check out Capriccios!
