Amazed...
I normally don't believe the yelp percentage, but reading everyone else's reviews I figured I'd give it a shot.
I've tried every little Italian deli that I've come across and this place is a gem. I hold my standards high for Italian subs having an off the boat Italian father.
simply put, it's Italian subs done right. Ample meat without 20lbs of toppings bloating your sandwich and killing the flavor of the meat like most places do and the toppings they DO put on are fresh and delicious, perfectly shredded lettuce and finely chopped tomato in the middle of January was a treat! (not frozen old and tasteless)
I had a soprasatta sub and the #2 focaccia (wanted leftovers), w/ fresh as hell basil & what tasted like homemade mozzarella and roasted red peppers... Let's just say it is so good you don't want to finish it cuz that would mean there's no more...
If you live in the area and you love a good homegrown Italian sub, go there now! -

Legit.
I've had Capri Deli & Pizza in my 'to try' bookmark pile for quite some time now but got around to giving them a go only just this weekend. I guess I was worried there wouldn't be much beyond pizza for a vegetarian like myself so it was easy for me to skip over Capri time and time again as my hunger pangs called.
Walking in this past Sunday I was surprised how large the inside was. From the outside, I was thinking it'd just be a small order and go operation with maybe a few 2-tops for people to sit and wait. Pleasantly surprised = me. The dining area (still just counter service but nice to have the option to sit and enjoy with crushed red pepper flakes table side et al.) fits approximately 40 people and judging from the size of their back kitchen, they're equipped to handle large catering orders as well. One thing that wasn't such a pleasant surprise, however, was looking around and seeing that even though there was no one in there dining at the time, every table had table had more than a few crumbs on it. I know there's no dedicated bus service but a wipe down in between diners made the difference in us taking just a few things to go or staying and ordering more.
As far as the menu goes, it was very tempting to not go back to my old meaty ways. All the spicy Italian slices and deli chat just like I remember hearing when I was younger and my Grandma would take me to pick up her ravioli order from the local Italian market made for a nostalgic visit. For veggie options, you're certainly very limited but luckily, that doesn't mean you have to sacrifice taste. I went with their special caprese salad and the 6" veggie sandwich with all the fixins, as the deli man would put it. I really only ordered the salad because I splitting the meal with another and I was looking for a little more variety than just a pasta or pizza. I was skeptical since I'm not the biggest fan of a lot of oil, or even tomatoes for that matter, but something about Capri told me I was going to leave satisfied with that sucker. And I did.
The Caprese salad was large and beyond delicious with copious amount of basil (the way to my heart) and Italian spices served with a half loaf of fresh bread and butter for dipping in the pesto remnants. #Win.
The veggie sub was a decent one as well, but certainly not best I've ever had. I was somewhat disappointed in the veggie factor here as I was hoping when the man at the counter asked me if I wanted to keep the tomatoes, lettuce, oil, and mayo on the veggie sub that it meant those were just the extra little topping options, like on the meat subs, and that there would still be some base veggies that came on the veggie sub. Not the case... unless you count cheese as a vegetable, which my Italian friend told me is the correct way to do it. At least they don't skimp on the cheese with several different kinds all packed together for a not so healthy but pretty darn tasty sub. I just couldn't help but think that if I hadn't opted to keep the lettuce and tomato toppings on my sammie that there would literally be no veggies on my veggie sub. I would suggest calling it a cheese sub unless some base veggies go into it- just seems kind of bunk otherwise.
I would go back again with my meaty Italian friends and family as I know they'd fall head over heals for these hoagies but for me, I just prefer a few more hearty options for my grinder. I'll head back around lent and see if they can do me up a nice pepper and egg or something. -

I had a slice of pizza and an Italian sub. I don't really remember how the pizza was, but I think it was worth getting.
I loved the Italian sub! The bread is great, which makes it stand out from most places. They bake their own bread if I remember correctly. The whole sandwich has great flavor. When I go to a restaurant I am looking for a special reason to go back. This place gave me that reason in the Italian sub. If a restaurant does not give me a very good reason to come back, then I would rather try a new place. I have only had the sub once, so I need to go back again soon to make sure my review is accurate. -

This is my first review. A friend and I tried this place on a Saturday afternoon and were really impressed. We were looking for a new place to have a good sandwich and my friend found this place on Yelp. It had almost perfect reviews. We each tried a focacia and were blown away. Even meat and cheese over the whole sandwich, down to the last bite. The 4" was very filling. We both would highly recommend this place and we don't do that very often.

I've been a big fan of Capri since the first time I stopped in, and here's why.
The place reminds me of the first place I ever worked. It was a small storefront deli/pizza joint and that's where I cut my teeth, literally and figuratively on Italian deli food.
Their "Capri" sandwich is the classic Italian sub/grinder I remember growing up as a kid. Mortadella, Capicolla, Salami, italian dressing, lettuce, tomato, onion and provolone on fresh made bread.. Fantastic!
Their meatball sandwiches are hearty and drenched in their own red sauce.
They offer a 6" / 9" and 12" sandwich and they are generous with the cut.
One of my most pleasant surprises was picking up a fresh uncooked pizza for $7. Take it home, pop it in the oven at 450 and in about 20min you're good to go.. For $7!!!.. I even deconstructed the pizza bit and slapped additional ingredients on it at home. Good stuff.
It's not fancy, but it is inexpensive and excellent food.
If you're looking for a bit of Elmwood park in Palatine/Arlington Heights/Barrington/Deer Park, I highly recommend Capri Deli. -

SUPER DELICIOUS! I would highly recommend this place if you want a alive of pizza, sandwich, or anything at that. Pizza is warmed up when you order it and everything is made fresh.

OK...now I'm becoming an "oldie" as I've been back five times in two weeks. They are consistently delicious, portions are VERY generous and the people are very nice.
I love the 4" focaccia sandwich with everything. I've also ordered the American sub and Italian sub for friends going to Ravinia and they RAVED about both sandwiches.
Tried the pizza last time and it was also delicious--the crust was thin and had just enough crispiness but was still flexible.
When you visit, be sure to take a look at the floor leading to the bathroom. Funny surprise.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Came here for lunch on my way to IKEA. I ordered the #1 focaccia sandwich with hard salami and provolone. Definitely one of the better italian-style deli sandwiches I have ever had. It was piled high (but not too high) with meat, and had enough cheese to taste but not to overpower the other ingredients: lettuce, tomato, red onion, dressing. The dressing/seasoning seemed to be just oil, and it got everywhere, making the sandwich a bit messy and greasy. The bread was fantastic, lightly toasted on the inside, baked with rosemary and tomato slices on the top. It was a bit oily as well (as is usually the case with focaccia). But this sure beats Jimmy John's and their anemic bread anyday!
I would definitely come back for a fast lunch, if I was in the area. -

Capri has a great selection of sandwiches, pizzas, and more substantial meals - and they're all really tasty. My favorite is a simple roast beef with provolone, but the meatball sub is excellent too!
Oh, btw, you might think you want a 9" or 12" sub if you've been to subway. You don't. A 6" is a pretty hearty meal.
Tony is the owner and is usually there - he makes an effort to remember people's names and enjoys what he does. -

Been here twice myself twice, but my girlfriend ordered sandwiches for us here a couple times before. They were great. The first time I went, my sandwich took way too long to make, I was the only customer, and the two people behind the counter didn't seem to even start making it until about 10 minutes after I ordered. The sandwich was the best I ever had though, so I decided to forgive that and go back.
Second time, much faster service. Sandwich was done within 4 or 5 minutes. It's a little pricey, but you WILL get full from a 4" sub even if you're a grown man. It's all quality, fresh ingredients, the bread is the best I have ever had. 5 stars. -

Fantastic place. My barber kept recommending it for months and I finally tried it. I was wowed.
I normally have nothing good to say about focaccia bread sandwiches, preferring to keep the messy stuff inside the bread, safely away from my fingers. But when I asked the cashier for a recommendation, he recommended a focaccia sandwich, so I bit (and bit and bit, and bit...).
It was one of the best sandwiches I've had in years. The people are friendly and very polite. It's not a hoity-toity kind of place. It's the kind of place where people who work for a living would stop for lunch.
I've come back there several times since. Each time, I've been very pleased. Everything I've had there has been great. I've heard great things about the soup, too, but haven't tried it yet. Maybe this winter. -

Whenever I'm out this way I make sure I stop. Get there before noon or after 1 pm to avoid the line out the door.
Gotta go with Focaccia Sandwich. I do the 4" and split a slice of pizza with someone if I can. The 8" is too big for me to handle. Subs and Italian Dishes are really good as well. Don't let Tony (Eugene Levy)give you a hard time at the counter either... -

Forget about JJs...
Don't get me wrong, JJs makes a solid sub but if you're looking for a real Italian sub and a true sandwich joint experience then you have to visit Capri Deli. You wont find rock music playing, funny wall decor or college hipsters working behind the counter here. What you will find is Tony, the owner operator, who looks straight out of Good Fellas. This guy is classic and you could tell he is passionate about what is does.
This place follows the golden rule of Italian cooking: Only use simple, high quality, fresh ingredients. That's it. Their bread is baked daily and it's perfect. The meat is sliced per order and the only condiment used is oil - really good oil. It's a simple sub that's very well balanced, not too doughy and not too meaty.
We need more of these places in the burbs. -

I finally took the 25 minute drive to Capri, because hearing the words "Italian Deli" turns me on in an unhealthy way... There aren't very many good ones in the 'burbs, so I had to give it a go.
I ordered a 9'' Italian sub and a slice of sausage pizza for two people, and we had food left over. The slice of pizza was huge, and even though other places usually go for quantity over quality, Capri's actually delivered on taste. The slice was definitely big enough to eat as a meal, but since we split, we ordered a sub too. Everything about the sandwich was enjoyable, from the bread to the cold meats, and I'd definitely pick one of these over any chain sandwich shop, but I doubt I would make the drive again specifically for one.
I had trouble choosing between 3 or 4 stars... I liked everything I ordered, and if I was in the area I'd go again, but it wasn't life-changing (then again, not very many sandwiches are). If you're craving an Italian cold meat sandwich and you don't want to drive all the way to the city, I'd recommend trying Capri. -

If I could eat a sandwich everyday for the rest of my life Mama Capri's Deli and Pizzeria would be the place from where I would get my fix. The freshness of their sandwich ingredients and breads are top notch. I ordered a 6" Italian sub, 4" focaccia sandwich, and a slice of sausage pizza for my family and it was more than enough food to feed the three of us. Honestly, I could have eaten the 8" focaccia sandwich because the 4" was great.
I will be frequenting Mama Capri's Deli and Pizzeria on every occasion I can.Listed in: Seconds? Yes, please., My Neighborhood

This is my favorite Italian deli in the Chicago area. They've got delicious, fresh bread, perfect meats, and enormous portions. Seriously - this ain't Subway, your 6 inch sandwich will be enough to fill you up for the rest of the day. I can't even imagine eating a 12" sandwich.
Friendly, family owned, and they make their own bread and slice their own meat. Go there now! -

Skip the chains and check out the Capri.
The meats are fresh, the service is courteous and the sandwiches taste great.
Sure, you'll pay an extra dollar or two but you get what you pay for.
There's a lot of food for your dollar.
The decor is a bit dated but who cares? I'm there to eat a delicious Italian sandwich and not to soak in whether or not I like the retro-style chairs.
Long and short - it's delicious and worth checking out! -

Whenever I refer to "The Deli", this is where I am referring to. Think of when you met that truly perfect girl and said, "this is who I'm going to be with for the rest of my life." Now, add some significance and replace "girl" with "sandwich" and you have Capri Deli.
The Capri style sandwich is the perfect Italian sub, and while the muffalettas are not made in the traditional way, they are still very large and very amazing. And I haven't even begun to mention the pasta! (which should definitely be tried)
Get there early, and watch the curb on the north side of the parking lot: my car damn near bottoms out every time
My only gripe is the hours... I sometimes need a night time (or late dinner) fix! -

The Capri deli is a neat little place. The first time I was there, I went on the recommendation of a former employee.
On that first time visit, it was way after lunch time and not close to supper time. The owner was the only one there at the time, and I told him that a former employee had recommended I try the place. I hadn't had lunch and was planning on a quick early supper, so I ordered an Italian Sub to take home. The owner threw in a slice of pizza that was left over. I got home and put the pizza in the oven for a bit. It was ok even though it had been under the infra red lights at the deli for quite awhile.
Recently, I had contractors in re-doing my kitchen, and floors. they said I was in the way so I said I'd go out for lunch. I went to Capri Deli, which was somewhat crowded, but managed to find a table. I had ordered an Italian Sub, bag of chips and a can of Coke. All together, it was a little pricey for the type of place it is. I think it was around $12 for what I got.
The reason for the 3-star rating is this: I had to wait for what I thought was kind of long, for this kind of place [I ate 3/4 of my chips & drank half of my Coke] before my sandwich was ready. Also, there was something about the sub dressing that I didn't like. It had kind of a bitter after-taste, like maybe old oil or something. Other than that, the sandwich was OK.
If you've read my other reviews, you know I'm kind of stingy with the number of stars in the rating. I will probably go back there sometime, but not in the near term. -

Best subs anywhere.
Really.
My wife, kid and I come here most weekends to indulge in the best subs we have found anywhere. I credit the baked-on-site bread which is both crusty and doughy and wonderful smelling, and the great Italian dressing Capri uses.
The Italian ice is a fun summer treat, to boot.
Oh! You can buy the bread to go. So, so very good with peanut butter. Buy a loaf, you wont regret it. -
Review from Ruthie M.
Capri Deli sells sandwiches that are above and beyond 95% of the sandwich places I have ever been to. When you get your sub sandwich, your going to look at it and think, "THAT is what people keep raving about?!" Then you'll take a bite, and the buttery, the fresh deli meat, the full-fat/full-flavor mayo, homemade dressing and crispy lettuce with register on your taste buds and make you say, "Hot Damn! Those Yelpers were right!". Capri does not offer crazy out-of-the ordinary sandwich ingredients, but they somehow make a standard turkey or ham sandwich taste amazing. Their fresh baked French bread is the cat's pajamas. The crust is crispy, while the inside of the bread is moist and buttery. The prices are very reasonable. I think it is about $7 for a 9-inch sub that will bust my gut (and I'm a big eater).
In addition to the flavorful subs, they have very good thin pizza. I also have to give kudos to Capri's staff. They are always so friendly and smiley. I want to give them all hugs. -

This place would be the most awesome spot to regular if I was writing a book or something, it's so cozy, the people there are really adorable. Especially the owner, and the food is DELICIOUS!
A friend of mine had told me that he had never heard of the place and had gotten a sandwich from there that was so good it made him cry. He was joking of course but when he took me there for lunch one day I told him there were tears in my eyes. We split this turkey sandwich on facatta bread (sp??) which had tomatoes baked into it. It was absolutely delicious. the owner even had originally taken our orders which were 2 of these things and I forgot why but he just gave us the bigger bread and split it in half and made our sandwiches a little differently on the half. He saved us some money, it is a little bit pricey but it's worth the money. It's not McDonald's after all, this food is so fantastic.
I saw a few other people that were there eating pasta dishes of sorts as well, they have a huge menu and I look foreword to going back and sampling some more of it soon! -

Very good and huge portions although a bit salty at times (hard to avoid for this type of cuisine). The focaccia sandwiches are stuffed with meat and a delicious bread. The pastas, especially the baked mostacolli come in a generous size at a great price with salad and bread on the side. Service is a bit slower since they prepare things when you order but you can clearly taste the difference when you take a bite. Only real drawback of this restaurant is the short hours.

Fantastic food, but a little pricy.. I'm a fan of the italian subs, and the pizza. The pizza by the slice is greasy, and delicious, but if you have the chance, order a whole pan pizza; it's incredibly better.
The place gets packed at lunchtime during the week, so plan to arrive around 11:30 or else you will be waiting in line out the door. -

Everytime I go to Capri Deli, I always get a 12 inch Capri Special. It might be expensive, but it is the most delicious deli sandwhich I've ever had! And you can taste that the bread was freshly baked on site! I hear that they use the same dough for their pizzas but I'm too focused on my Capri Special.

I love this place - it is on my permanent rotation. The filone bread is incredible - ask for a sub made with filone and you will not be disappointed. Their salad dressing is the best I've had at a deli. Their meatballs are so good my very picky grandmother asks me to get them for her all the time. Their thin crust pizza is so good I drive out of my way to get it - they even crumble their meatballs and put it on top of the pizza - yum! They also make great cannolis and minestrone soup. Everyone I know that lives in the area loves Capri - even though I moved away, I still visit every chance I get. Great food!

First of all, I must agree that the 6" sandwich will definitely fill you up for lunch, if not..you may need a gastric bypass. My friend says the pasta is excellent, but I usually get the same Italian sub every time I go there. A bit pricey for a sub, but the quality, flavor, and quantity cancels the price out!

TOP NOTCH SANDWICHES!!! There isn't much you can say about Capri besides Perfect. It is everything you could want in a sub shop. They also have a good pizza, a medium thickness(kinda like Tore and Lukes). The Italian Ice is excellent, the service is great, they food is delciious. I don't know what else you could want in a place. I found them a year or so ago when I was at home for a while and it was the best find ever. My wife loves it also. They are the best. Go Go Go!!!

Okay...This is by far the yummiest place to grab an Italian sub. I am in Love with their Foccacia Bread. Not once have they dissapointed me. Meatballs are always delicious too. It really isn't a great place in regard to dining atmosphere, but the staff is really courteous and the food is to die for. Still my favorite sandwich spot- much better than any chain or other Deli in the country.

This is my favorite place to get a sandwich from. The bread is freshly made and sometimes it's even still warm from the oven. I love the foccacia sandwiches and the soups and salads. Capri makes some excellent pizza too. The crust is one of my favorites. Every meat, cheese, and veggie is fresh and of good quality - no matter what you get.

Our office goes for lunch at least once a week and we never, ever been disappointed. My favorite is the Antipasto salad. This salad is to die for, it's fresh ingredients, the house dressing and the nice fresh loaf of bread makes this a PHENOMENAL SALAD.
