Capoeira Irmandade is an awesome place to train capoeira! The group is very friendly and welcoming. From the first day I came, I felt like family. They offer a range of classes from beginner to advanced and also have kids classes. It is very reasonably priced. Capoeira has helped me develop strength, coordination, musical ability, and is also a great creative outlet. We work hard but also maintain a playful atmosphere. Also, I've visited a few capoeira academies, and I think this group plays the most beautiful music. If you are even slightly curious, you should come visit!

Whenever I'm up in Nor*Cal ... it's ALWAYS guaranteed fun and 4-5 star place from Shannon L. and this place is no exception! Usually, we just eat at interestingly delicious places, but this time we tried something new. You may be wondering what capoeira is...? It's that Eddy Gorda (from Tekken) fighting style. Half-breaking/half-fighting. It's something you have to try at least once. And this place let's you try it out for FREE! As a beginner, all the regulars are really nice, they're patient and try to teach you. The class is pretty fun. They make you do some drills and then cartwheel around the room. At the end, you play a beat and "spar" with someone else. Overall, it's definitely a workout! The Master is welcoming and nice. Some girl even took him down! Awesome!!
I have a rule of not "working out" or doing any "active" during my vacations. I made this the exception, and fully regret it, not that it wasn't fun, but because there's a super duper embarrassing video of me doing a cartwheel somewhere in the Facebook world!! =( -

I had never heard of Capoeira until my friend (Shannon L.) decided to bring all our friends here for a unique experience. It was definitely a unique experience! Wikipedia describes Capoeira as an Afro-Brazilian art form that combines martial arts, music, and dance. If you've ever played Street Fighter, it's also the breakdance-like moves that Eddy does in that game!
Our friends were actually pretty nervous going into this class, so 5 minutes before the class started we stood outside debating whether or not we should go in. The owner came out and told us to just come check it out since the first class is free anyway (nice! we thought it was gonna be $12/pp).
The staff and seasoned students were all veryyy welcoming and friendly. We learned some basic dance moves, played a game that taught you how to use your listening senses better, crab-walked, and clapped a lot to different instruments. However, I just don't think Capoeira is the art form for me. Good experience though.Listed in: Burn Baby Burn

There is no Capoeira school in the South Bay that is as warm and inviting than Capoeira Irmandade. The commitment between the master instructor (Contra-Mestra Risindinha) and students drives the energy of the class environment, making it a great place to learn and achieve challenges/new skills you never thought you could do on your own. If you are new, don't worry because everyone will probably end up helping you. If you are more familiar with Capoeira, there is a lot more to learn and CM Risindinha always has something for the more advanced students.
Capoeira IS for everyone, no matter your size or shape.
Come to Irmandade Capoeira! Excellent for kids as well who want to start early. -

Capoeira is such a scary activity to try for the first time. It challenges your coordination, your openness (in "playing" capoeira in front of everyone in a tight knit circle), and your endurance (with brutal warmup activites). But to be part of such a friendly community - more like family - with so much energy is refreshing!!
Remember that your FIRST CLASS IS FREE. They have a class for All Levels on Saturdays from 1:30-3pm but I felt like us newbies were intruding on the practice time for the more experienced. They were so nice about it though and each person really went out of their way to help us. As I had previously mentioned, some of the brutal warmup activites included walking on all fours (just hands and feet, no knees) back and forth, crab walking while kicking each others' hands down (punishment for falling was 10 push-ups), walking on all fours making animal sounds to find your fellow animals, and lots of one-on-one kicks, cartwheels, and the like. They even let us play some of the instruments during play time.
The place is humble looking and could be an easily hidden building as you drive down Willow. The studio isn't terribly large but with 24 people, we made it work. I can imagine that it is underappreciated, underrepresented, but I seriously recommend you try it out and get the word out. Challenging yourself is a great feeling. -

After researching various martial arts forms & places offering classes, we chose Capoeira Irmandade for our youngest son. I'm so glad we did! It has really transformed him! It provides self-discipline & self-esteem. He seems to have a natural talent for this art, and the people there have not only recognized it, but nurtured it & made him part of the family there.
It is a very friendly atmosphere. Everyone I've encountered is very helpful, patient & enthusiastic. It's a great value for the money & I'm so glad we chose this school! I cannot praise it highly enough! -

If it wasn't for Capoeira, I'd probably be 400 pounds, sit at home, eat 500 jars of Nutella and watch TV. Luckily I have Capoeira Irmandade to keep me in shape Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Contra Mestre Risadinha really helped push me to my limit each and every day I come to class. In Capoeira, you not only learn about the movements but also songs and instruments in which are crucial to your growth as a capoerista. I really appreciate this class and I hope others get a chance to come try it out.

Capoeira is the best thing that has happened to me. Not only is it a great workout, but it has all the elements that you need in life. You learn these moves but it also has a philosophical aspect to it that you could really apply to your daily life. You learn music, tap into your creative left brain, put yourself in uncomfortable movements, learn history and culture, and smile while doing so. The people you train with here aren't just your partners but they become your friends and a part of your community. Contra-Mestra Risindinha is a great teacher, he wants all his students to advance and will patiently take the time to guide you. I love capoeira!

I like this place, even though i've only been there twice. I got pregnant and haven't been able to go back. But I will be going back next month.
Capoeira is a good workout and will whip you into shape quick. That is if you put effort into it. The people here are really friendly and helpful and patient. You don't need any experience to start.
