Based upon the excellent reviews Capitol Rehab received from patients, I decided to use them for my post-car accident PT needs & I'm VERY impressed! I have worked with lots of different PTs over the years both on a personal and professional level and NONE of them have been as professionatl, competent, problem focused or as excellent a practitioner as Chasity. She knows her stuff & addresses your concerns fully & effectively every time.
Most importantly, Capitol Rehab offers "manual therapy" which is totally different from "exercise-based therapy." Manual therapy is a hands-on therapy, where the Physical Therapist uses myofascial release, massage, and certain muscular releases, amongst other things, at as treatment modalities. You spend the entire appointment with the Physical Therapist so they can see and feel what is going on. There isn't an in-office exercise component (you do have exercises at home though) and there aren't any PT assistants who just make you do the exercises. IMHO exercise-based physical therapy just doesn't offer a comprehensive approach to improving a patient's musculoskeletal issues and manual-based therapy, what Capitol Rehab offers, does.
I have also seen Drs. Beck and Booker for chiropractic manipulations. In the past, I haven't had much symptom improvement with adjustments. BUT after seeing both of these guys, that has changed. They have varying approaches with Dr. Beck being gregarious, high-energy and easy to talk with and Dr. Booker is a more reserved. As someone who prefers a dynamic, interactive provider, I seem to gravitate to Dr. Beck's personality more.
From the ease of registration to the honestly friendly receptionists to patient privacy (curtained bays) to excellent appointment availability, Capital Rehab is great! I have recommended Capitol Rehab to friends & colleagues and will continue to do so. -

I initially went to Capitol Rehab for knee issue that I had been managing for several years and which had just taken a turn for the worse. With three international distance triathlons this summer, the knee issue was really affecting my training and ability to the do the races. Having read about Capitol Rehab in The Washingtonian, I thought I would give it a try. If things went well with my knee, I could then see about treatment for all those other accumulated injuries from skiing, high heels etc :) Note: I had seen all the usual docs through my insurance: my regular doc, sports doc, podiatrist, physical therapy, etc. etc and even had an MRI with no diagnosis, no relief. But, given that my knee hurt a lot and cracked with every move, I knew it was not just in my blond head that I had a problem!
Well, the results have been great, wonderful and way better than I expected. In the first appt, Dr. Booker figured out what the problem was, did a bunch of adjustments, and gave me stretching and strengthing exercises, which I did as prescribed (and they were not too time consuming or difficult). I had an appt with him every week or so and viola! Six weeks later my knee is feeling better than it has in 10 years!! I have two tris down, with my best run time in a while, so something is working right. I also had him assess my sore wrists from a previous injury and some other pains that were just annoying, but not super bothersome and same good result. I am now down to seeing him 1 or 2x per month which is completely reasonable, given their great deal where you pay for each appt as you go and the cost is way less than any other chiro I have seen w/o insurance (my ins does not cover chiro). Note that if you don't want to do exercises and stretching, this might not be the chiro for you, but in my opinion these are required to really fix most problems. Dr. Booker also happens to be very nice, chatty, and is pretty darn cute too! Who can complain! The office staff are really nice and professional too. -

I wasn't sure what to expect with physical therapy after a tibial plateau fracture and torn ACL in my right knee, but based on the good reviews and convenient location, I chose Capitol Rehab.
I love this center. The first day I crutched in, the receptionist helped to open the door for me and when I realized I forgot my prescription in the car and needed to add more quarters for the meter, she kindly ran outside to take care of both for me. Wonderful! I was given an appointment with Chasity, and she performed a thorough consultation to find out the background and healing options for my leg. She immediately iced and gave instructions for care and exercises at home to keep the muscles moving. The following week when my foot was completely swollen, she massaged the extra fluid out of it. With Chasity's instructions and techniques, my tibial plateau fracture healed well and I my muscles were in shape enough to begin exercise fairly quickly. As my ACL was completely torn, I'm still considering ACL reconstruction surgery (thanks to Chasity's urging as I am very active) and will certainly go back to Chasity if this happens for my intensive post-op physical therapy.
Capitol Rehab is an excellent facility and I highly recommend Chasity as a physical therapist. -

I went here on a regular basis a few years back for a nagging back problem. Dr. Booker, a chiropractor, works out of here, and I think he runs things.
When I made my initial appointment, it was with a physical therapist, Lynn, and she was very thorough. In fact, just by the way I was standing for the initial exam, she quickly noticed I have low arches, and speculated that was what was probably contributing to my back pain. I had never noticed.
It isn't lovey-dovey rehab. You're gonna feel some pain. They'll probably start you off with some strength-building exercises first. They're easy to do and they'll monitor you to make sure you're doing them right.
Then it's on to some bodywork. Massages here aren't a sensual affair with scented oils, new age music and gentle kneading. They're designed to break up scar tissue and loosen taut muscles. There were a few points where I know I reached my pain threshold, but they're very good about listening to you and working deep enough to loosen things up without being sadistic. There were a few times I was gonna blurt out my SSN or PIN number to stop the interrogation :) But in all seriousness, they know when enough is enough.
My physical therapist even let me see the chiropractor for a few spinal adjustments too. While I'm not 100% positive, I think Dr. Booker treats his chiropractic work like sports medicine. You're not getting crap about subluxations and unlike other chiropractors I've seen, doesn't make you sit through several propaganda DVDs assuring you chiropractors aren't quacks. He's all about getting your body into proper shape. In fact, I had a coworker who also saw Dr. Booker first, and after several visits, he moved her on to physical therapy. So he's clearly out to do what's best for you, even if it means passing you on to someone else.
Oh, and during your initial consultation, the front desk staff will check your coverage with your insurance provider. This way, you'll find out before you leave how much your insurance will cover so you can schedule visits accordingly.
The verdict: I'd gladly and wholeheartedly recommend Capitol Rehab to any of my friends who needed physical therapy. I went several times a week for several months and always felt like a valued client.Listed in: DC area doctors

If you need physical therapy for an injury and you are jaded with the hurried nature and lack of follow up that most doctors practice nowadays, then this is for you.
Dr. Beck and Dr. Booker are energetic, they greet you when you walk in and they love what they do. They are chiropractors who actually want to engage with you. They want to understand why you are visiting them and ask that you share any questions or concerns with them so that you are "both on the same page."
Did you get that??? A doctor. That cares. And wants to know what you're thinking. Because he wants to be on the same page with you. How refreshing!!
In any case, I went in for some random knee pain that I was having. After about 5 weeks of electro-stim, exercise assignments and muscle work, the pain had subsided considerably. They inflict pain like it's nobody's business because they never wanted to see me again. And I was okay with that. :-)
The front desk staff is great, too. They actually greeted me and talked to me. Doctors set the tone in their offices and you can tell immediately when you walk in that this is a place where the staff is happy and the patients are even happier (though little do we know the torturous exercise contraptions that lay behind those doors just waiting to inflict pain on your tight IT band- an innocent foam roller?? I think not).
Go here. Get fixed. Be well. -

I was being treated here for a back injury for almost 8 months. Top notch care all around. Barb is the BEST PT ever. I would recommend her to anyone.
She has become very popular recently, so getting appointments has been more difficult, you have to plan a few weeks out.
Dr. Beck and Dr. Booker also do a great job working with Barb to make sure you receive great care. -

Unprofessional office staff warrants a negative star rating. I was injured in a surgical procedure and needed rehab for nerve damage in my neck/arms. I called this place, recommended by office colleagues. They said they had no problem with third party billing since the surgeon is responsible for my post operative care.
The day of my appointment, 15 minutes before, the secretary called to cancel-- saying the therapist wasn't comfortable treating me. I was upset and had to start over to find a PT. The owner called only after my office colleagues went in to complain. While he and I finally spoke a week later - I would still steer clear of this place. When you are hurt -the last thing you want is for irresponsible office staff to make you feel worse...Comment from Beth M. of Capitol Rehab 5/10/2011

Total convert.
I had a minor pain in my ankle - I generally figure these things will go away with ice and rest but after a few days, friends convinced me to seek out a doctor. A sports medicine doctor, my roommate suggested.
And it was a pretty ordinary doctor's visit experience - paperwork, waiting room, pretty polite and helpful staff - until I actually saw my doctor.
My default personality is best described as skeptical - and admittedly, I was a little turned off by the introductory video I was instructed to watch (which prescribed hope and a positive attitude to my ankle woes). And I had my reservations with going to see a chiropractor in the first place as opposed to, say, an orthopedist or podiatrist.
But Dr. Beck was pretty freaking awesome. He was friendly and energetic and open-minded. He was sincerely interested in hearing about my pain and frequently encouraged questions. He was thorough and personable and enthusiastic.
And, most importantly, I felt not only feeling better - but with a plan to help me stay better.
Would totally recommend Capitol Rehab, even for those skeptics (like me). -

I am a runner. And I admit--as someone who has ended up with nasty stress fractures in both femurs (yes, the two biggest bones in the body)--I might have a slight addiction...However, the last thing that any runner wants to hear from a medical professional is, "Perhaps you should find another sport." Or, "Instead of running, maybe you can just go to the gym and use the elliptical machine." No, unless there is a serious problem (see aforementioned broken femurs), I want to get fixed up and dash back to the trails and roads.
A few years ago, I was sidelined with a case of Iliotibial band syndrome (ITBS). With a prescription for approximately eight weeks of physical therapy, I selected a PT office between my home and workplace, figuring it would make the twice weekly visits a tad more convenient. Unfortunately, the treatment couldn't have been less effective: zero improvement over the course of two months--and I had to get a second job to cover the additional expense. There I was: broke (and living in fear that my PT appointments would lead to problems at my full-time job), sans social life (the part-time job sucked up all free hours), and unable to run (to alleviate the stress that one accrues with two jobs, no social life, and atrophying muscles).
Bemoaning my frustrations to a friend, he recommended that I contact the physical therapist who successfully treated his shoulder injury. He assured me that not only was Barb an excellent practitioner, she was a serious runner (and a fellow former collegiate athlete--thus, I reasoned that she would understand the need for intense activity).
One appointment with the spectacular Barbara Fallon Wallace, MSPT, DPT, of Arlington's Capitol Rehab and I had a renewed outlook on life. Barb was attentive, insightful, knowledgeable, professional, and extremely easy to talk to. Rather than suggest that I become a cyclist or a gardener, Barb assured me that my injury was treatable and that I'd be back in business before long. [Side note: turns out that the other PT office (with its assembly-line treatment style) was focusing on the wrong part of my IT band!]
In addition to the PT sessions, Barb gave me exercises and stretches to perform at home and thoroughly explained what to expect, what to watch for, and never failed to answer my frequent barrage of questions. Within a few weeks, I gently returned to my running routes and continued the healing process. PT is never a walk in the park (that damn foam roll--you know what I'm talking about; you've seen those styrofoam cores innocently lying around the stretching area of your gym--initially doles out excruciating pain), yet, when your sessions are conducted by someone who genuinely cares about your treatment, takes a multi-faceted approach to the problem, has a great sense of humor, and encourages you every step of the way, you find yourself actually looking forward to your PT sessions! Barb's patients represent wide spectrums of activity level (from professional athletes to folks recovering from severe trauma), age, and attitude: and she is amazing with each individual. In addition to the ITBS (Barb successfully healed that up), I have received treatment for a lower-back injury (courtesy of an overzealous round in a krav maga class) and I couldn't be happier with my progress.
I have nothing but resounding praise for Barb's abilities and I recommend anyone with a PT prescription to pay a visit to Capitol Rehab. The office is easily reached (located between two metro stops) and the staff is absolutely wonderful, patient, friendly, and extremely helpful. Whether it's a glitch with my insurance company or fitting in a last-minute appointment, Deborah (the office manager) is outstanding.
Even if you don't have an injury, I would recommend a visit to the office to treat yourself to a top-rate massage: Sam (Samantha - the office's licensed massage therapist) is phenomenal and I promise that you will exit the massage room with a new lease on life!
Clearly, I can't say enough positive things about the crew at Capitol Rehab. Again, whether you have an injury or you'd like to end your quest for one of the area's best (and affordable) massages, give the folks at Capitol Rehab a call. Tell them that Tracey sent you ;)Listed in: So Necessary

I have been to several chiropractors over the years, so I have a good basis of comparison and would not give such a low rating lightly. This is not a good practice overall. If you have a specific condition or injury (especially sports-related), Dr. Booker seems knowledgeable about that type of thing and may have a staff that can put together a good treatment plan for you. But this is not what I went to Dr. Booker for and I was very disappointed in the way his office was run, his lack of attention to me and my history (what I will call "case management), his sloppy approach to treating me.
After happily seeing a chiropractor in Chicago on a biannual basis (more if needed - slept funny, overexerted myself, stress, etc), I moved here and had trouble finding a chiropractor I liked. A friend recommended Dr. Booker. I went to him and told him in so many words that I wanted to establish a relationship with a chiropractor for "maintenance" care. You know - next February I may slip on the ice and hurt my neck and need one, so I want to find one now, not rush around while I'm in pain, right?
Anyway, I went in to his office, said that and also had a short list of my small, chronic complaints, not tied to one event or injury (that I know of). This seemed baffling to him. He was more concerned about how I was going to pass this off from an insurance coverage perspective than how to approach a real treatment plan. He wanted to know, what is the ONE issue, when did it start? Well, I understand you need that for the insurance, but now let's get to the real world. That is not what's going on with me. Does he want to work with people like me? I don't know - he was willing to take my money.... Anyway....!
I didn't have confidence that his staff was well-trained in understanding the various paperwork/forms, chiropractic fundamentals, or the "pre-treatments" prescribed for me (especially EMS). I always felt like everyone was rushing around and I had to wait forever to be attended to. Very slapdash, very high churn kind of feeling in there.
That type of feeling may be acceptable to a certain clientele, but when you are coming at it from a more wholistic/wellness angle, that is not the vibe you want. You don't want to be a number. Bottom line, don't go here if you are not an athlete with a very specific end goal in mind and/or if you have never been to a chiropractor. -

customer service, customer service, customer service. I had two appointments in a month where I showed and the care provider did not, once the PT, once the chiro. I called and left a message after the most recent no show as I was the first appointment of the day so that meant I was the only one there, nobody else as the office staff doesn't show until later in the day
NOW, why the 5 stars? Because rather than take the attitude of, 'oh well, there's always another person with insurance to take your place', The PT herself called to apologize, determine what happened, apologized again, explained what happened from their end and apologized again. I really like that they didn't take the attitude of 'not my fault that my staff messed up so I don't owe you an explanation or apology and patients are a dime a dozen" and instead said, here's an explanation, but by no means is it an excuse and we do apologize.
YEAH! customer service is alive, at least at this place. every business will have times when all staff aren't up to snuff, but how those times are handled will keep someone coming back, or have them never come back regardless of how good the product is.
This place does great work and has terrific customer service. I highly recommend them1 Previous Review: Show all »

Went there earlier this year with some back problems. A little out of the way from DC, but still basically right off the metro. I mostly dealt with Dr. Beck, and he was very competent and attentive and you could tell that the main goal was to get me better as quickly as possible. I have not been back since, so it appears he was successful!
