I used to eat at Capitol Pub every Sunday for brunch.  Other than that, around when they first opened, I found it a good place to meet people before we all headed out.

They have awesome brunch specials and I would highly recommend trying their bloody mary's, my fav.  The Eggs Benedict and the BLCT with fries and extra-crispy bacon are two staples in my brunch habit.  Their screwdrivers were good and strong, and after two I was ready for a nap :)

With its increased popularity, I would suggest showing up early if you want a table.  It is usually crowded, especially on nice days, and it's a good spot for people to hang out and talk a while.  Parking can be a little tricky, too.

The CMYE from last Monday gave several of us an opportunity to shoot the breeze about anything (from deep sea fishing to hot yoga), get some Yelp swag, and enjoy a few bites and stuff courtesy of our Dallas Ambassador.  If you can get yourself a seat on the patio on a cool day, you may be able to enjoy the fireplace too - aaah, Fall.

Onion rings were battered just enough and were good with all the sauces, although the chutney threw me a bit.  They're a little more on the thin side so be prepared to scarf down 4 at a time if they stick together.  Whatever goes into the marinade for the Tandoori Chicken made this my favorite, and thankfully whoever was at the grill knew when it was done and not dry.  Since I'd eaten a lot that day I went against my usual sensibilites and ordered a salad as an entree - good but not really a good idea for large appetites.  Seared Tuna Salad was pretty medium sized at best but everything was fresh, the tuna was done well and served with a nose-opening ginger sauce.

Next time I make it down here I'll have to try real food, something more substantial like shepherd's pie or the capitol burger.

Clean, good staff, decent food and good bar selection.
I like the pizzas, but everything is decent I've had.
Bottles of wine, and draft beer.
Sometimes a yappy overly self loving crowd, gets packed.
pub setting of warm wood and shadowy booths.

the highest praise i can give a place is that i go there on purpose.  that's not really saying much.  if i suggest it when friends are talking about where to go, that means i like it.

capitol pub is not one of those places.  i won't disagree if someone wants to go there.  i've been there on a very awkward date (election night, and i'm a politnerd) and for brunch with friends.  i'm not sure if i am turned off by the parking situation, the people who go there or the sketchy service.

i'd rather go to vickery or old monk.

Good place all around.  It is starting the get packed and a little more trendy and yuppie especially on weekend nights, but it is still a good pub.  The food in surprisingly good and the outside wrap around patio is nice.  As the area continues to turn over, it gets nicer and nicer but also busier and busier.
I definitely recommend Capitol Pub

This is one of my brunch favorites.  For some reason I always like places with good bottomless mimosas. Maybe that's because I drink a lot and feel like I always get my money's worth.  I've only had the burger and fries there, but they are really good.  I have a bad habit of ordering the same thing over and over and trying anything new when I find something I like a lot.

Saturdays and Sundays are a great day to take your dog and chill on the patio.  If you don't like dogs, don't go because they are everywhere.

Perfect for my first time on a week night in the rain.  I'm sure it's different when it's packed on the weekend but last night I could pull right up and park myself.

I love the dark wood, the cool bartender and the atmosphere.  Our bartender came outside on the patio to tell us we had a phone message (so nice of him).  We did not eat as time slipped away from us having too much fun.  It reminded me of the Old Monk in some ways - which is a good thing.

As one of my buddy's favorite pubs, I hit the Capitol Pub pretty regularly when I'm in Dallas, so I had to contribute a review. Plus, as a Houstonian, I just wanted to encroach on another buddy, Lance H's turf.

I haven't (read: I don't remember having) tried their food, as we're usually there for bacchanalian purposes, but I do love their beer selection, as well as their fantastic patio. On a beautiful day or a cool evening, with their friendly and attentive waitstaff (thanks for hanging on to my card from one wedding weekend to another two weeks later), Capitol Pub is tough to beat, and has definitely made a fan out of this carpetbagger.

Good food, great patio. Fun people working there! This is the kinda place where if you're a bitch, don't expect to get your ass kissed by the staff. They tell it like it is, and are usually Dead On. With the many jerks that cram into this place on occasions (eg Friday and Saturday nights and the occasional brunch) the staff handles them very well, and doesn't take any crap from pretentious customers! The last time I was in there, a guy (overweight, sunburned, popped collar douche) sat down next to me and asked the bartender if she knew how to make a "bad ass Bahama mama?" the bartender replied "there is no such thing!"Cheers to that! He then grew a set and ordered whiskey and beer. Hey, if you don't like it...well than you can go to uptown!

You know, it's kinda a shame that Capitol Pub has gotten so many bad reviews. I've gone here three times now under different (ehem, states of mind), and it has yet to disappoint me.  Was a great place to close down the night, to celebrate a low-key birthday with close friends, and meet for a co-worker happy hour.

If the other reviews have dissuaded you from going, here's a suggestion. Take a couple of friends or meet with co-workers for a weeknight happy hour. Sit outside by the fireplace or inside at the large pub table. Check out the novel's length menu of wine and beer selections. Order, eat, and share tapas-style. The cheese plates are large, varied, filling, and delicious. The fries with three dipping sauces is also a favorite.

Finally, sit back and enjoy the breeze from the open doors, lots of windows, great rustic pendant and chandelier lighting, and the latest game on one of the strategically-placed TV's. It's a laid-back atmosphere with good energy. One of the few pubs in Dallas that I feel immediately comfortable at. No warming up to the place here.

Give yourself most of the evening to enjoy it. I agree with the other reviewers. Service is slow and a bit sporatic here with the place not half full. Sometimes, though, it's nice to just slow down...

Pretty much The Old Monk but newer (same guys, go figure). Great outdoor patio and the service is really good but it's just missing a certain worn character to it. Maybe they should invite the patrons to bring some chains in and we'll beat all the furniture up to 'antique it'.

Spicy mango pork shank... you are the best single item of food in Dallas-Fort Worth.

Today I planned my work schedule around getting lunch at Capitol Pub on the one week day they serve lunch: Friday. We ordered the pork shanks, an order of onion rings and the veggie capitol pizza.

The pork shanks had a bitch of crunch on the outside, super tender and moist inside, not too spicy, perfect. HUGE value at only $7.

The onion rings were awesome and home made with your choice of three salsas. We told them just to bring three of whatever and two out of three were great.

The veggie capitol pizza is great with cherry tomatoes and carmalized onions, great choice.

I will go back JUST for the pork shanks. Great selection of beers, great service, cool location and great decor... I don't understand the low ratings. From someone who is very critical, Capitol Pub is leagues ahead of places like The Porch.

Just met a friend for lunch here for the first time.  Got here at 3pm.  Was surprised how busy it was for a Sunday afternoon.  I think having a tat is a requirement to working here.  Eccletic crowd, decent pub food.  Remember the "pizza only" rule between 3pm and 4pm.  Service sucks.

Its one my favorite bars in Dallas.  Great seating, excellent beer selection, and the food is pretty darn good as well.  I would recommend the fish & chips, but other items on the menu would probably rate high also.

I ususally end up at Capitol Pub on a Friday or Saturday night, which tends to be pretty packed.  But mid afternoon on the weekends is a great time for patio drinking.

This is just a review of their brunch. The menu selection is minimal and the omlette I ordered was burnt. Besides being burnt, it just didn't taste good.  The drinks were good but overall I would not recommend this place for brunch.  Their are too many better brunch places in Dallas.

It is still a great happy hour place with a great patio.

A good decision:  Sunday at about 10am we said "Let's call the sitter and go to brunch and have bloody mary's and then see a trashy movie like we were dating.  Maybe even pull on the business socks""*

We headed down to the Capitol Pub for the first time, goaded by the "Best Eggs Benedict" review in D Magazine.  We settled in, checked out the menu, ordered our Mary's and sipped them, commenting on how awesome the pickled green beans and Oh-My-God spiciness of the drinks were sure-fire ways to get us back here.

I had the Benny, he had the Steak and Eggs.  The Benedict had eggs that were perfectly poached: firms whites, nice and runny yolks.  Thinly shaved canadian bacon, and enough hollandaise to make me happy while I dipped my cripsy and well-seasoned potatoes into the slightly bitter, buttery sauce.

The steak and eggs were cooked to order:  medium was pink and juicy on the flat iron steak.  My husband and I actually had a debate as to what was more delicious to dip potatoes into:  hollandaise or steak juice.  It's a draw.

Good prices, good service.  People smoke in the dining room, which isn't really a problem for me except I won't bring my baby here because of it.  That may be a bonus for the management who doesn't want kids in the place, but it sort of blows for me.  I want to try the fish and chips.

In a nutshell:

The Good:

1. Best fries ever (try the trio of sauces).

2. Great Patio (if you can get a seat).

3. Good food

4. Good location

The Bad:

1. a bad manager

2. slow, incompetent, unfriendly, dirty looking tattoo covered staff

3. Too busy

4. terrible crowd of  consisting of

a. young, annoying loud drunks
b. 40 yr old British wasters who spend every night on a barstool.
c.  loud obnoxious boys in their early 20's doing shots.

5.  valet parking, really for a pub????

Maybe I am just bitter, but when I first went there after it just opened, I liked it, but after a while it changed, which I blame on a poor staff and different type of crowd emerging there. There is really a lot to be said about having a good, well trained, professional staff who actually cares about taking good care of their customers.  I would still like to be able to have lunch not brunch (denied on the menu) there on the weekend during the day, but I will not go there at night.  The food really is good bar food, but it can be difficult to enjoy in the atmosphere.

If you like good fries....this place has them. They're crispy and dusted with sea salt. The onion rings are really good too....plus you get a few different dipping sauces.   I have not been here at night, so I can't comment on the bar scene.  But they have awesome food for lunch.  Good Reuben sandwich and a nice side salad.  The dressings and sauces taste homemade as well.

Capitol Pub is always a good time. The first time I went it was a Saturday and just saw it, went in for a beer just to check the place out.
Me to Bartender: When did ya'll open"
Bartender "Wednesday"

Since then it's been a packed house of craziness but I like it. The food is good, I really like the Shepard's pie. I've had tastes of the other items but I like the Shepard's pie the best. The fries are a good choice for a nibble if you don't want the whole shabang and you have to try the roasted red pepper aioli and the loaded potato dip, they're the bomb. The curry is actually like a 'chutney' which if you're unsure actually means more like paste than dip. Maybe some people like that?? When it starts to get cold out and you think you might want to sit next to the fire outside you shoulda had a friend leave work around 8:30AM to save the table for you, but if you're the guy or gal to get that table, you're one lucky sucker for the whole night.

Last Sunday I went there for brunch with one of my friends we went around 12:30 and were able to get a table outside which was nice, since it was good patio weather. The service was, well pub service, they're not clinging to you every waking moment but they get the job done.

So Capitol Pub you're back on my list of places to go!

A perfect neighborhood bar with some good grub too.  You will catch me here every Tuesday along with the Elm St. Tattoo Panther Girls Soccer Team after our game.  You can tell by how sloppy we are if we won or not. Actually......maybe you can't.  HA! The staff is super friendly and the vibe is chill.  I enjoy the decor.  Big bold pieces and beautiful wood.  I love a dive, but this is too nice to be a dive but has the same zen.

Cheers!

I had lunch there a few weeks after they opened.  I ordered the grillled chicken and fries. The chicken was cooked fine, it just was a tad bland.  The fries were bland as well but they sprinkle the herbs on top.

Still, it seems like a good spot to hangout and toss back a couple. To me, the food was quite average.

I'm home, writing a review of Capital Pub, and I can smell my own smoky hair. *sigh*

That's my only big complaint. I like this place a lot... actually, I like Capital Pub much better in the winter. I like sitting outside, by the fire pit, a little cool, drinking beer, and eating hot food. Being hot and wishing they would shut the damn door isn't so much fun. So hot outside you feel the need to sit inside. So smoky inside you wish you sat outside. I thought the law was that smoking was a-ok if they served more ETOH than food... I think Capital Pub serves a lot of food.

GOOD food too... for a pub it's miles above other places in town. Himself, Etienne, has gotten the short ribs in the past and they are awesome. Meat just falls off the bone. I have had the Shepherd's Pie. Both, like I mentioned before, I prefer in cooler weather. Get the french fries with the dipping sauce. All of the sauces are great, and it's a great snack when you've had 2 beers and kinda want a 'nacker.

The people are pretty cool. Crowd is older than other areas, but you'll still have some young-ins making you feel like you maybe should have put on those heels after all... if you know what i mean. :)

They have a good beer selection, and my beer-snob husband can find his Fuller's London Pride here. That makes all of us happy!

I can't count the number of times that I have driven by this place... No I really can't count. Like at all.

I was so excited to finally take a gander at this cool pub off Henderson. I must admit I had some great company (wink wink) so it made for good times. I figured the place would be packed at 6pm on a Friday, but it was actually pretty tame. There was a comfortable crowd leaving open tables outside and in. We chose to stay inside since it was still a bit sticky outside. Me no like sticky. But me DO like Hefeweizen, and Paulaner was on tap. That'll do, Donkey. That'll do.

Other beer offerings include Ace Pear Cider, Harp, Blue Moon, Stella and Guinness, sweet wonderful Guinness. They also have combos like the Snakebite, Priest's Collar and Taxi Cab. What the eff are those? I dunno. But I like drinks with silly names. Check their website out for the baziliion other bottled and draft beers.

We drank up quite an appetite so Etienne P had the genius idea to order the fries. Both Leigh P and I said we weren't hungry, but as soon as those bad boys came out, my hands never left the basket. The fries are hand cut and seasoned oh so perfectly. You can choose three sauces to dip them in. Choose from flavors like roasted red pepper aioli, smoked tomato ranch and loaded potato dip. We were just snacking, but I'd like to come back for a full meal. A few items that stood out to me were the Tandoori Chicken Skewers, veggie Capitol pizza and the warm goat cheese salad. I think I could scarf down the homemade chocolate truffles made with Bailey's and Chambord in two seconds flat.

The waitress was busy, but still dropped by a couple times to check on us. The crowd was a good mix and the beer.. well it was beer. Good beer. I'll be back to spend more time with the menu. I definitely suggest this place for after work drinks, or even a casual date.

I should pay rent at the capitol pub.  or at least put them on a retainer.  this is our "meeting place."  Happy hour, lunch, brunch, dinner, after dinner drinks, no matter the occasion somehow we end up at this place at least twice a week.  And if we aren't already going with friends, we run into someone from our posse there.

We bring our dog (which is a MAJOR score because I have a 150 lb black gorilla of a dog that is not welcome at very many places).  But they love my dog, and bring him water.

Another score for this place, huge patio.  Another score: GREAT food.  Interesting menu, not just your average "bar food" and everything on it is great.  (Although I agree, the habanero shrimp aint no joke. I'm cajun and it burned my lips off).

ANYWHO - the final and most important points it receives from me is the Bloody Mary.  Again, I'm from Louisiana and i know some shit about Bloody Marys, possibly from all the times i have peeled myself off the floor wishing for death when someone brings me a perfect bloody mary and renews my spirit.  especially in New Orleans, after the saints lose...but, I digress.

The Capitol Pub makes one of the only maybe 2 or 3 marys in town I will actually drink.  And that says a lot.  Bf will tell you, (as he rolls his eyes) that I order marys all over town, take one sip and make a face, sigh really loudly and let everyone within earshot (and sometimes even those West of 75) know my exasperation with the difficulty of finding a decent mary in this town.

oh, and one more thing.  they have $1 bacon.  where else in town can you get a side of thick, perfectly crispy bacon for $1??? Definitely not La Duni!

I've had some of the slowest service in Dallas here... and recently they went to an all-valet parking, which is free before 8 but, oddly $5 after.  I wonder if they make you pay before or after you get your car back?

I will say this: the food I've had here has been very good at worst, and excellent at best.  The other yelper who talked about the french fries was SPOT ON.  They are the BEST fries I've had in a LONG time, and the sauces/aoili that come with them are wonderful.

Everything here seems about $1-2 more than it should be.

Solid 3 stars.. wonder if it will head down the "douchebag in the mist" path as gentrification heads down Henderson, though?

Came through here after a wedding and definitely felt surprisingly overdressed for a Dallas "scene".  The staff was super friendly and people were casually dressed inside.  They had a great selection of drinks and pretty good service.  We ordered some bar food (which is meh), had some good conversations and some good drinks.  There's plenty of seating available for parties big or small, or maybe they just weren't as busy that night. AND I forgot my ID but the door guy still let me in. Woo hoo! or perhaps my Asian face is failing me and I don't need to be ID'ed anymore...Boo hoo.

Disclaimer: I went on a Sunday afternoon, and personally I would avoid this place like the plague on a Friday/Saturday night. Just not my scene anymore. I'm sure the Cool Kids can pull out some strange really easily, but I've lost all semblance of game. However, on a Sunday afternoon, I had a good time. Good draft beer selection, but at $6 a pint, a bit on the steep side. I guess you can charge that on Henderson.

I like the Cuban sandwich and the fact that their fries come with dipping sauces and have fresh garlic on them. Yum!! Although I have never been to brunch here, every time I pass by its packed! Their cheese pizza is thin and crispy, just the way I like it. Service is OK so sit at the bar where the bartenders are super attentive and friendly assuming you are also polite. They have a great selection of beers on tap. This place gets super crazy busy packed on some nights.. and they have a DJ sometimes. After being towed to Arlington once, I am a valet gal so I was happy to see they have it. Great patio with a fireplace...

This place has so much potential. It's huge inside and has a huge patio outside with a fireplace. The beer is about average, I would really like to see more imports on tap and not have to pay $10 for them to come in a bottle. The service was awful here. We had a very bizarre waitress that asked for our dinner order before the appetizers and drinks had arrived. Then we didn't see her for what seemed like half an hour. Maybe this place is understaffed? Our food was interesting too. The calamari looked like mozzarella sticks and tasted very chewy. The fries were soggy and heavy ala Snuffers. Barf! The rest of the menu wanted to be like the Old Monk but the chef is no bueno. Also over-priced. And there's a valet, because you totally need a valet for a pub? Just don't go here. Go to the Old Monk or the Flying Saucer. Trust me, I go to lots of pubs : )

Over the past year, the food has remained solid.  Crowd transitioned from eclectic to standard for the nabe.  Service is generally fine.  Maybe it's just that the glow of novelty has worn off for me.  Still a pretty cool place to hang out.  Love their fries with choice of 3 dippers.  But something's just missng nowadays.

I can dig the Capitol Pub.  Went there on Friday night at about 6:30 and it was packed.  The crowd seemed slightly older than what you get on Greenville, which is good, it will keep me away from those young boys haha.  A lot of the crowd also appeared to be people that I have ran into at the Dubliner, maybe the same guy owns it?  Lots of beer and they list the alcohol content of each one on the menu so you know exactly which one to get to do the trick.  The food was also good...I had the BLCT (the C is Cotswold cheese)...the cheese was kind of chunky, but MAN it was good.  They also have a pretty large patio which is going to be great when the weather gets warmer.

Update - had the calamari, it was great.  Also the fries were spicy and had a garlic touch, very delish!!!  There was also a table reserved, so I am assuming you can reserve a table for your party...cool!

A nice casual place to meet up for food and drinks. The outside seating is great with the weather permitting. The crispy pork shanks were delicious. I'm still on the fence about the fish and chips.  Not sure if the batter was really my cup of tea. They reminded me of the awful chicken crispers from Chili's. The fries that came with them were seasoned nicely.  Never had anything less than a good time here

The capitol burger is awesome here!  Sunday brunch with bottomless mimosas rocks too!  I can't wait for the warmer weather to enjoy their patio again.

Great neighborhood bar.  If you are hungry the Capitol Burger is greatness.  I wish they had a better beer selection.  And I hate that your best parking option is valet.  Because valet is parking extortion.

I drove by Thursday night and noticed a good crowd so my hubbie and I decided this was the place to try on Friday night.  It was our anniversary (9 years woohoo!!)  and wanted to go out and have a good time.  It was about 9p when we arrived, we sat outside which I thought might feel too hot, but it was not bad.  To start we ordered the habanero shrimp which was SPICY HOT, if you are not used to eating spicy don't order this.  We enjoyed it, it was made with pineapple sauce which helped turn down the heat a bit.  For dinner I ordered the turkey and brie sandwich which was great, my husband ordered the drowned steak sandwich with goat cheese also excellent.  And for dessert I had to order the truffles which were AWESOME!!!  So it's not a true dessert it's more like candy but still I had to try them.  This has definitely made our list.

I can only remember one of the four hours I spent at Capitol Pub on my birthday. That must mean I had fun, right?

my uncle and i have been coming here since the early eighties, when peter was still dressing like a leprachaun five days a week and dancing for change on greenville ave., and feargal was leading pony rides at the fairgrounds.

back then, they used to serve ribs and the floorshow was of the unrivaled type, the likes of which went the way of jack ruby.  bobby darrin, the chocolate watchband, and the ramones were but a handful of the bands that used to play by the fireplace for under two bucks!  on a saturday!

all of this of course was waaaay before valet and guinness were even invented, so it was with a fond recollection of the past that found me darkening the doorway of this centuries old saloon in this, the new millenium.  the most notable difference came in the fact that they now allow women to drink in here.  and not behind the 'women's wall' of days gone by.

after freaking the fuck out on that lil' morsel of societal change, we settled in for 2 rum runners and some fermented shark.  yummo!  just like iceland!

16 hours later, we were escorted from the property by the local constabulary, but all in all, it was worth it.

here's to another 400 years capitol pub!

We like this place too, nice mix of people, good service and really good food for pub grub.  We haven't tried everything and mostly we go because we enjoy Maredsous beer on tap.

We've enjoyed the calamari fries- no I'm not big on calamari, but this was light and delicious and I would order this again.  We've also shared the Crispy Pork Shanks (appetizer) they come with 2 shanks tossed in a mango chipotle sauce served with cilantro lime cream.  Way Good- I could get this over and over and not tire of it.   Scallop Fritters- we tried last time and were disappointed but I think we were expecting more scallop than fritter dough... tasted like a seafood donut... just not my thing, the hubster didn't like it either.... but we've liked their other dishes so much we'll keep coming back and trying other things.... We also love the goat cheese salad- its warm goat cheese rolled in herbs and panko and lightly fried-  served over fresh greens, pecans and dried cherries.. I love it!  I may be my favorite goat cheese salad in Dallas.  We haven't had any of the sammies but the Turkey with Brie with cranberry mayo has my attention.    Another time we split their veggie pizza with caramelized onions, roasted tomatoes and yum, Gorgonzola.    (Can you tell I'm a cheese freak?)  We'd get the pizzas again too.   Sounds like I work for them but I don't,  just another nice pub to visit.  I really like the way they finished out the place- it has a nice atmosphere and a nice looking bar.  I really want to get there when its still cold to enjoy that outdoor fireplace too.

The bar is a good place to knock back a few during the week.   Peter is a real stand up guy who likes to kick back a few himself. so definitely head to capitol pub to stay away from the typical annoying Dallas crowd.   The menu is rather good, and the ambience is cool.  But I can drink inside a 7-11 and think its cool.

Edit;   the annoying Dallas crowd has found this place, still cool though.
