I stayed here for two nights for a state conference. This was my first time visiting Topeka in several years and here is my experience:
Location: This hotel is a few minutes from the state Capitol. It is conveniently located near a gas station and five minutes from Wal-Mart.
Ghost confirmation/Check-in: I was skeptical about the check-in process because after booking the room late last month, we did not receive a confirmation email. It was strange and something I have not experienced before. We called prior to arriving to confirm our booking and the front desk clerk was not pleasant and he rushed my husband off the phone. The bar was in hell at this point. However, after arriving, Genevieve gave me hope. She was friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable about our stay. I was relieved to have an easy check-in that was no hassle. Bonus points for not waiting at all to get our room.
Pricing: The total price for two nights was $250 plus a $50 incidental. This is for weeknight rates and I am sure it increases for the weekend.
Room 301: Upon entering our room, I immediately checked the bedsheets and mattress. The mattress had questionable stains and bed bugs! The bed skirt was dirty, dusty, and was covered in random hairs from previous guests. We immediately alerted Genevieve, who was quick to get us into another room, thankfully with no questions asked. She reassured us that maintenance would be called to correct the situation. Thank goodness our next room was bed bug free. It was very dusty, especially on the bedside table and the headboard. I brought my own cleaning supplies and deep cleaned our room. It was surface level clean but it had not been deep cleaned in a long while. (The handprints and stains on the walls were proof of this for sure.) The bathroom sink had a crack in it and the water was slow to warm up. Once it was warm, it had excellent water pressure and was very hot.
O for Old: While we appreciated the mini fridge, microwave, and the LG flat screen, the room and the furniture are more than twenty years out of date. The lobby and hotel bar are very nice and were the only amenities that have been recently updated in the last few years. (FYI-the bathrooms located near the lobby have stall doors with broken locks.) There is a pool and a hot tub, but we did not check these amenities out. The only thing that seemed newer in our room was the carpet. Also-the toilet was low to the ground and leaked around the base with each flush.
Ghostkeepers: We did hear housekeeping running a vacuum for thirty minutes in the main corridors after seven this morning, but I did not see anyone going into any rooms to clean them. They definitely did not come to ours during the day. This may explain why our room was only surface level clean.
Conference center: For an event space, it was just okay. I have definitely been to nicer conference centers. I wish the conference rooms were regulated better for temperature. The main conference room was frigid and the smaller break out rooms were saunas. Thankfully, the food provided for us was decent, minus the melon for fruit. As mentioned above, the bathroom stalls had broken locks. The staff were very accommodating and friendly and I appreciated how efficient they were.
Overall: I cannot recommend anyone to stay here. The bed bugs alone were the ultimate nail in the coffin. Plus, the rooms have not been deep cleaned in such a long time. The upside was the free Wi-Fi, which was solid! The continental breakfast is $12 per person and there was plenty of parking. The water gets nice and hot but the pricing for how dated the rooms are is severely overpriced. Please save your money and heartache and stay somewhere else. And no matter where you go, check for bed bugs!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Amanda W.Chandler, AZ65436Jul 27, 2023
This hotel was very outdated and minimal. The sheets were so thin and uncomfortable. There was no alarm clock, shower supplies and many things were broken. Customer service was good but I would not stay here again!

I recently stayed at the hotel in Topeka for a bowling tournament. I really like the hotel. It is an older place. However, the staff is amazing. The breakfast was excellent and the beds were extremely comfortable. I don't always sleep in hotels and I got some great sleep there. The rooms were clean and quiet.
but the most important thing about the hotel is the staff, they are friendly they were pleasant they were genuine they were extremely helpful, and I really liked my interactions with them. They had great conversation as well as great service.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jemarilda A.Vallejo, CA21141Jul 8, 2022
If i can give this hotel 0 Stars I would. CHOOSE ANOTHER HOTEL. Not worth it. Didn't even making it to booking...staff had a disgusting attitude.
Called to make reservations for tomorrow, doing a cross country drive. Wanted to check prices, see how customer service was, and to let staff know we would be checking in late.
A dude answered the phone so I told them we needed a room for 2 adults and 1 child, I also asked for pricing. He said we could choose between 2 rooms and price would be about $120-$140.
I informed person on the phone that the websites prices were $94 for. 1 bed 2 double bed room. Dude freaking told me, "then get it on the internet then!"
I said, "excuse me?"
Dude replied back with, "if the room is cheaper on the internet, then just book it on the internet!!" He was hella rude it was disgusting.
No wonder this hotel is rated 2.5. It should actually be rated lower. Choose elsewhere!!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Charleen S.Chesterfield, MO20449741Sep 12, 2021
Occasion: Conference at the adjoining center
First off, let me say that there was a lot of confusion regarding this hotel's name. I'm still not sure what to call this place because it shows up with different names in different places - maybe it's changed hands or something, I can't explain it.
When the husband said he was attending a conference here, Piper and I decided to join and visit my company's Kansas City office. We booked one of the larger King suites and this ended up being one of the nicer setups I've experienced to date with my Service Dog. There was an outer room with a door where we could put her crate, a floor-length window for her to look out, and a fridge for her food and treats. The place was obviously old and dated but everything was clean and worked.
Additionally, this was one of these places where they have the toiletry dispensers in the shower. I love a place with conditioner and bath gel! Water pressure was also what I like (basically blasting the dirt off my body lol). In room coffee service left some to be desired but they hand it out at the restaurant hostess stand so that nicely covered the morning coffee requirement.
The staff was also really kind to us. We had a few hiccups but they were immediately corrected.
Would I recommend? Yes
Would I return? Yes

The 5 stars are fir the Fantastic Service , despite the labor shortage. Not everything or everyone was perfect but people sure tried hard to fix problems, filling demands and needs. They all deserve a raise or bonus. I've seen some of them all day , that night and returned the next morning , with a damn smile !
I stayed for a week during a dog show held in its halls. Not the most updated, but things have been changed since my friend stayed before the pandemic. Looks like they are ready to remodel or other upkeep. Great place for pet/livestock shows or convention/trade shows.
Some questioned the security towards the rear of the building, being from NJ I really didn't think it was concerning. Take regular precautions and you'll be fine. Police regularly rolled through it seemed. Hotel staff did their best to keep us rowdy dog people quiet ! Again , great staff, asked us to keep it down but still let us party, that's awesome !
Food was pretty darn good for a hotel. Bartender for the events was kick ass! Everything was very good and fresh. The bar is touch and go based on clientele presence. Again, labor shortage, when we came out they opened or let us chill with a 6 pack instead.
The atrium is pretty but very loud and acoustic
Having the bar in the middle doesn't help. But hey it is what it is. And it is fun , especially if you all are together.
Topeka it self was cool too, lots of food options not far. Only a couple within walking distance.
I'd def. go back for another show. I'd stay elsewhere for peace & quite , not a knock just being honest. Great place to party, hope it stays busy and grows!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jessica B.Colorado Springs, CO935067Apr 10, 2022
I'll start with the positives, the staff was nice & helpful, however in a five night stay our room was never fully cleaned. I asked for new towels on day three, maybe that confused things. The photos of the rooms are deceiving with their fish eye lens. The doubles are full size beds, not queens, it was a snug fit for the hubs and I who are average size people. The a/c never worked properly, we had it on 60 and it was never even remotely that cool. The shower pressure was pretty good, but drain was super slow. The walls are paper thin. Since all the rooms open to the center of the open hotel, loud gatherings in the lobby bar could be heard well into the night. On several occasions, I could clearly make out a screaming conversation in the room next door. In general, the hotel was only so-so clean, common area bathrooms had broken doors, missing ceiling panels or no soap. The food was pretty good, the restaurant was only open for lunch, a $13 buffet. They catered our conference for breakfast and dinners, which were good. Again with the pictures... the picture of the pool area clearly shows a hot tub, which apparently has been filled in, disappointing. There is really nothing around, downtown is 5-10 minutes up the road and Walmart and other stores about 15 minutes away. Can't image I'll ever be back in Topeka, but if I were, I would probably pick a different place to lay my head.

The hotel is convenient because it is next to the Stormount Event Center and close to downtown. I stayed here only because my 2-day high school reunion was held here. I stayed 4 nights. Service and cleanliness are severely lacking. I love dogs but the hotel should not allow over 100 mastiffs to stay at the same time in the hotel.
1. Housekeeping was done inly when you called to request it. One day I requested service while I was out for the entire afternoon. It was not done and I had to check 3 times to get it done while I waited in the lobby for over 2 hours.
2. There was shredded paper in front of the 5th floor elevator for 2 days. It was vacuumed only after I informed the front desk on day 3.
3. I asked for some help to bring some oxygen equipment to my room. The front desk pointed to a luggage cart and did not even pretend to make excuses why they could not help me even load the cart let alone deliver it to my room.
4. There was a dog show starting the day I checked out. The show was for mastiffs, a very large breed. The front desk said there were over 100 dogs staying there. There was barking and general dog disturbance during my last night's stay. In the morning of check-out I had to dodge dog urine in front of and in the elevators. The hotel, room hallways and elevators smelled like dogs. It did not help that it rained because everything smelled like wet dog and urine.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Cheryl L.CO, CO225Mar 7, 2022
This hotel is convenient if you are going to an event at Storemont Event Center.
It has a great breakfast for $13 dollars and the people that work in that area are fantastic.
This hotel is ran down, doesn't have a microwave in the room, and people at the front desk were new we had an over charge issue...Needless to say they couldn't help us another lady came to "help" and was RUDE wouldn't even make eye contact with me.. while trying to resolve the issue.....
Room had a pull out bed... no bedding provided. I asked for and was told that the hotel was full... I clearly made reservations for 4 people.. which means I also needed bedding for that many people... $150.99 a night... not worth the money...paint peeling off the walls...
Also no hot tub it was filled in with cement.. no towels in pool area either.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
