1500 K StI've only been here once at night and it was on St. Paddy's Day and I had been pub crawling all over downtown sacramento and was smashed at that point, but I had alot of fun. Usually I've gone in the day time and gotten their Pina Colada smoothie which is quite yummy.

This review can be summed up in five words... "All You Can Drink Mimosas"!!!
Honestly... I haven't had a chance to eat dinner here, but I have had many happy sundays here!
Every sunday, they do brunch with ALL YOU CAN DRINK MIMOSAS!!! You can't go wrong with that! Right?
And don't get me wrong... It isn't all about the drinks... The food isn't your average cookie cutter breakfast plates. They have a variety of specialty dishes that make you want to slap your momma! I guess a good comparison would be to the Tower Cafe (don't hold me to that though).
The atmosphere is always light and friendly due to the mass consumption of ALL YOU CAN DRINK MIMOSAS!!! The last time I was there I met a very interesting group sitting at the table next to me.
As far as a price goes, you are looking at spending about $20 a person, but the food, drinks, and atmoshpere are worth it... Now say it with me now... ALL... You... Can... Drink... Mimosas...
***On a side note, they also have strong ties with the music community as well. You can always find some local or tour band playing there when you want to get out and here some good music.

I grew up amongst greasy diners and Chinese restaurants (Donner Lake Kitchen, Lai Wah (back in the day), Ernie's in S. Lake Tahoe, etc.) that had great food and slightly shady surroundings. So in context of showing up with a hungry belly on a Sunday morning, a little dehydrated and craving some tasty cuisine, this joint can certainly satisfy.
Unfortunately, outside of the food (which I'd even consider a "4" at times), your wait is generally pretty long for your food. The line for your seat may be long as well. But if you're at a table, reliving the night before, whacking back the endless mimosas and coffee with patience, you'll be OK.
Back to the food.
The portions are large and in charge. So don't roll in thinking "bagel w/ light cream cheese and lox." Think generous portions of homestyle potatoes and fresh fruit with whatever you order. The eggs benedict are tasty. Simple. Classic. Yum. The ham is flavorful, the eggs perfectly poached and the house hollandaise is surprisingly flavorful and savory, rather than that tanginess that often ruins a good hollandaise. The Monte Cristo sandwich is also extremely tasty as well. Big portions again, and once you get pass the messiness of it, it treats you well bite by bite with fresh turkey, ham and cheese between texas toast and a unique aprioct aioli. (Tell 'em easy on the aioli!)
When it comes to breakfast, it's hard to differentiate, and based upon the food I will certainly add this place to the list. The Fox and Goose (http://www.foxandgoose...) holds their own, Crepeville has its moments, Ernies in S. Lake Tahoe is uniquely "breakfast legit" and the Tower Cafe (http://www.towercafe.com) is great if you navigate their menu well.
Give it a whirl. Come with a bit of patience and nowhere to have to sprint off to and you'll enjoy a nice cup of coffee, a mimosa or three and a delicious wakey-wakey eggs and bakey.

*I've only been here for Sunday Brunch*
I'm always down for all you can drink mimosas on Sunday morning
The last time I went, the service was really good, he was personable, fun, lively and real. He hooked us up with awesome Bloody Mary's and looked away when we shared our all you can drink mimosas -
Previous time I went there was the exact opposite. Server was cold unfeeling inattentive and seemed extremely chored with our presence.
Both times I've been for Sunday brunch the food has been amazing but they've run out of "all you can drink" mimosas! (Maybe I should told them I was coming)
Being as that I've been there twice and it happened both times, I have to assume this is a regular occurrence.
I've eaten potato stack, garage gourmet and something else but I was too faded to remember... ALL DELICIOUS
Summary :
Pros: BOMB food, my last service experience rocked so I think I'll ask for that guy if I go in, fun atmosphere
Cons: Um... why are you offering all you can drink mimosas and running out of champagne, had horrible service before, really really loud.
I'll give this place three stars until the next time I go. If they don't run out of champagne, then it bumps up to four...

Since I work around the corner, I hit Capitol Garage up at least once a week. The staff is always really friendly. The weekday morning crew is especially cool.
I often stop by to grab a bagel and I LOVE their steak salad- although its a little over priced.
The only prob I have with Capitol Garage is that sometimes your order is out in a minute or two...other times it seems like an eternity passes before you get your food. And it doesn't seem to matter how many people are there so its not a good place to go when you are in a hurry (unless you want to grab a pre-made salad or pastry to go).

The staff is completely indifferent to complete/correctness of your order. When I asked for a Lemon from my beer they asked why, does it really matter! Then the staff came back and said they did not have any cut, Lemons, when I asked him to cute one he brought out a whole Lemon and a knife...WTF. The food is medicore. The only good thing is that it is in walking distance of the Capitol and it has a cheap happy hour.

Horrible service! Slow and rude. I thought I'd give them a second try, it was worse than last time...
My hubby and I just ran in for a drink. Just to stand at the bar, drink a drink and go. We waited awhile for service, the server came...to the guy next to us who had a FULL pint, and asked him if he needed a water. WTF?! Thinking he would be to us next, he then introduced himself to the fella, shook his hand, and walked away. So we walked out.
I'm sad. This place used to be so cute and cool when it was across the street from the park.
The only good thing this place has going for it, is it is downtown.

I can echo what many other reviewers have said about the new Capitol Garage. I only ventured in there once to check it out and grab a brew, but the impression was very clear - apparently, I wasn't dressed cool enough to warrant common courtesy by the server and bartender. The bf's food took forever and was mediocre. Maybe some people like a little snotty attitude with their overpriced beer and food - but not me. Here me now - especially if your from out of town and looking for some place nice to dine and drink - pass over the Capitol Garage. I wouldn't want you to get a bad first impression of Sacramento. P.S. I used to go to the old CG all the time. I know many people who've played there. It used to be such a great showcase for local talent. Don't know what happened.

I agree that as a bar Capitol garage leaves something to be desired. The staff is very cliquey and can come off as rude on occasion. The covers are retarded and the drink prices can be a little weird.
But.
But on Sunday afternoons it's a whole different place.
The brunch menu is wonderful and every item my friends and I have tried has been delicious. It's the one day a week they do table service and the waiters are actually personable and on point.
If I could rate Capitol garage separately just for Sunday I'd give it 4 maybe even 5 stars.

I woke up Friday morning in Sacramento starving and looking for a place to get a yummy breakfast. I am not really savvy to the Sacramento area so I (of course) yelped it...and I was not disappointed!
I ordered the Garage Omelet which was awesome. It had portobello mushrooms, tomato, basil, sausage and some awesome sauce. It was my dream! I was not a fan of the potatoes. They were not crunchy and not as flavorful as they appeared to be. The coffee was really good.
The staff was awesome. I walked in not knowing how to order and ask one chick about how everything works. She was very kind and explained that it's counter service Mon-Sat. The guy that took my order was kind and laid back. My breakfast came out in less than 8 minutes and they checked in on me although they were busy at the counter.
The place was clean, funky and had a beautiful full bar!
I was overall really impressed with his place. Next time I am in Sac I know where to go for good eats!
I work in the area and have tried Capitol Garage take out for lunch on a few occasions. I would not recommend this establishment under any circumstances.
The staff is completely indifferent to speed, efficiency or complete/correctness of your order. The food is medicore to bad.
My last completed order for a meatball sandwich turned out to be two pieces of bread with a single meatball that was chopped in to small pieces and mixed in with the sauce. If that isn't bad enough someone took the time to spill what must have been half a bottle of crushed red pepper flakes into the mix.
I tried one more time to get a simple salad but after waiting in line behind three people who took 15 minutes to decide what they wanted, with a line out the door and the staff making no effort to move things along I was fed up and left.
Avoid at all costs.

It was fun for coffee, wine and dinner. We were there for convention- and the guys behind the counter were very entertaining. Saturday afternoon after three long days in flourescent lighting- needed their good coffee and the thai pasta salad. Thursday evening was good for salads and wine - and a nice night to be outdoors! we managed to stay away from the desserts- although that tiramisu still is calling me back in the Bay Area.....
I stopped in here to grab a quick bite and was pretty happy when I saw the turkey avocado sandwich on the menu. When I ordered, the bartender seemed to have attitude and completely forgot my beer until I reminded him. The sandwich was OK, but would have been a lot better if the turkey wasn't factory packed kindergarten sandwich meat. I wasn't too impressed. I stopped by again that night when it turned into a bar and heard some music from inside. We showed the bouncer our IDs and he asked for a $10 cover. I looked at my watch (1AM), then inside (15 people in hoodies gathered around a couple Stockton kids trying to rap) and then to him. "Are you serious?" I told him we'd pass and he started trying to negotiate. Half-off, two-for-one drinks, free drinks. If you're looking for a fun bar, or even a respectable one, pass this place by.

Awesome.
This might be my new favorite breakfast joint. I went with a friend this morning and had what might just be the best omlette EVAR. The eggs were super fluffy, perfectly done. It was the "farmers omlette" which contained veggies and feta. Oh.My.Delicious. Then there were the potatoes, which apparently have changed recently - I asked what was in them because they are fantastic. Had a sweet-spiciness reminiscent of chipotle in them, with marinated bell peppers and onions, sprinkled with the perfect balance of asiago.
Yum.
The guy serving us was incredibly good- I've read some bad reviews on here, and either we got lucky or they've had a change in staff, because our server was nothing short of super attentive. In fact, he and the bartender (a woman) made us Mimosas with some Peach Schnapps in them for the regular price, just to stoke us out. I was pleasantly surprised.
I'm definitely going here again. I've heard great things about brunch/breakfast, and I would say they have been proven.
4 stars only because it's not a five-star restaraunt.
But it's definitely kickass breakfast.
Like others on here I found the staff to be totally repugnant. They are rude, indifferent, and even worse, they avoid you when they know you're unhappy.
I went there for brunch at noon and waited 45 minutes after I placed my order for eggs. When I asked my waitress what was going on she said it's normal to wait 20-30 minutes. Well, it had been 40. Completely ridiculous for something as simple and quick as eggs. When the eggs arrived they were cold and overcooked, nor did the waitress apologize for the wait.
I also had the unlimited champagne option. The champagne was virtually undrinkable. It was like drinking syrup. Waaay too sweet.
In addition thereto, due to the architecture of the dining space or lack of insulation (it's a cement room), the sound reverberates and you have to shout to have a conversation. A restaurant is a fairly loud environment and cement isn't conducive to lots of people talking.
Rio City Cafe and Sweetwater Restaurant blow this place out of the water as far as brunch is concerned.
45 minutes I'll never get back. This review will change your life.
Don't waste your time here unless you like spending your pesos on inconsistent food and bad service. It's like all the employees want to be famous reality television celebs but this job and all the customers are in the way...or maybe they are all so worried about global warming that my lunch was a big pain in the ass.
I love it when the manager; she acted really important; looks at me like I'm Quazimoto the bell ringer because I ask for a refill ...don't stare at my hump. Even if the food were super duper yummy I'd skip this place and eat cabbage instead.
Here is the problem as I see it. Management is not really paying attention or just does not care. I'd go again but only if someone else drove, someone else ordered the food, some else paid, someone else ate the food but I get to drink the Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

Wow, this is a tough crowd! I've never found hair in my food here, and find the cover very reasonable. There's not a bad seat in the house!
Fine dining it's not, but I've found every entree and drink to be very tasty. Prices are on the high side of reasonable, and the owners are very friendly. They're always in control of what's happening without putting a damper on fun. They have three televisions, live music, and a great location...and portions are large. I think it's a great value for your buck.
I would not go back.
I went there 5 times for carry out (close to the theatre where I was working)...and NO JOKE there was a hair in my food every time!!!
And no...it was not my hair.
One time...ok...everyone makes a mistake. But 5 times???? Thats insanity!

Hands down probably the best breakfast in Sacramento. I had the a scramble with carmalized onions and sausage with a mustard horshradish sauce sooooooo frickin good (called the "leaky" something or other) and it's hard to find good breakfast potatoes these were tasty. The other 3 people I was with were equally impressed with their choices. A little pricey but worth the eats and the unlimited cheap mimosas was nice.
I have had their coffee before and it is just okay. Nothing too special. They have tons of goodies for sale. I have been there at night. Sometimes they have hip-hop shows and other times the have a dj night. On Fridays they have Reggae night. This is fun and they monitor the amount of people that go in because the place is super small. The drinks are a bit pricey for their strength and the place usually is super messy by half the night. but hey .. you only pay $5 to get in!
This review has to do with my Sunday brunch experience- I've had better experiences there for dinner or snack...Based on my recent trip, i give the place two stars only because I liked my omelet, The Farmers Market Omelette, with portabello mushrooms, feta cheese and sundried tomatoes. However, the service sucked big-time. My group of 8 had a reservation for 12:30, however we had to wait about 20 minutes before we were seated. Then after we ordered, our food took an hour. Unfortunately, after an hour of waiting and being starved, my order was completely wrong- they brought me some kind of seafood omelette. The server made a half-assed apology and insisted it would be ready in 2 minutes, but it was ready in about 10. By the time my food came, my firneds were halfway done with their food. I realize I chose to come on the busiest time of the week and mistakes are made. i used to work as a waitress in college and I know I am guilty of fucking up people's orders too. However, I ALWAYS made an effort to give good customer service, by way of comping an item on the bill, offering a free desert, whatever. They did NOTHING. Barely even apologized. Then our server left in the middle of our meal and didnt' say anything. Some other server had to ring up our bill and then I finally took our payment up to the cashier. Everything was so slow and disorganized. Seriously, there are so many great places to go for brunch in Sac, why go somewhere that makes so many mistakes? If they consistently have bad service (as it appears so from reading these reveiws) why don't they just put more staff in the kitchen or on the floor or whatever? Or at least drop the prices because the food isn't worth the chaos.

I used to like CG at the old location. Now it's an overly hip, snotty space with servers who can't be bothered to serve, bartenders who don't know how to mix a drink (should I have to tell them that a martini is made with gin unless vodka is specified, or that a screwdriver is vodka and orange juice?), and the food just plain SUCKS.
I've been here twice for breakfast and won't go back. To wait 45 minutes to get a menu when we were one of 3 tables in the place? And then an hour for our food, which they said wasn't done before that (and everything was COLD when we got it, so obviously it had been)? That's just not right.
A piece of fruit fell on the floor while the food was being served. The waitress picked it up and put it back on a plate - and then denied it when my dining companion asked for a new piece of fruit! I wish the health inspector could have seen that. And the floor was not clean, either.
We never got forks. I had to go get them myself, since the staff were hanging out, drinking cocktails at the bar and laughing all morning.
Also, they don't refill your water or coffee ... you are expected to do that yourself I guess - and they don't apologize when they spill fruit juice down your back as they are serving. Not even an "oops - sorry." They weren't in much of a hurry to get paid, either, as it took almost 15 minutes to get rung up. Not going back, even though we all work right across the street...
All in all, a very classy joint :(

* Review based on breakfast/brunch only*
Yes, the old location was much better, but life goes on.
I think the breakfasts here is really good. Prices are a little on the high side for breakfast, but the portions are insane big with a huge pile of potatoes and a ton of fresh fruit along with your main choice. I have yet to finish everything.
The egg benedict's are pretty darn tasty with a couple different choices. Ham, pastrami, crab cake and a veggie one. The croissant sandwich was really good too. If you happen to order the chocolate chip french toast, ask them to ease up on the chocolate or your french toast will be swimming in it. Might sound good to some, but it was waaaay too much for me. I wound up having to scrap a lot of it off.
Oh yeah, and they have $4.95 all you can drink Mimosa's until 2pm on weekends..well hello there, Capitol Garage!! Not the best mimosa I've ever had, but at 4.95 for all you can drink, well worth it.
The service has always been good when I've gone. Food always come out promptly. The last time we were there our server was filling up our mimosa before it was even 1/2 way done. Excellent!

I like the new location. It's more Faith-style. I went there today to meet a couple of friends for coffee. I love the layout of the Garage, and they have great outside seating. They open the huge windows on nice days and it gives the place a nice, breezy atmosphere. I'm into the more modern look. I had a breakfast burrito and a mocha. I can't say the mocha was great, I've had better, but I did like the burrito, and it was HUGE. The staff was extremely nice and helpful, always appreciated. I'll go back.
Edited to add: I, or anyone I've talked to, have/has never found a hair in their food at this establishment. I think I'd stop going back after time #1 (maybe 2 if I wasn't worried about self-preservation) if that were the case, but that's just me.

I ordered a cream of potato soup after asking the cashier if it was vegetarian. He said it was but I didn't believe him so I had him ask the "chef". The chef assured me it was and there was no meat or meat base. So, i get back to my office and stir the soup around. Well, big chunks of bacon or ham were floating around. Dang, I threw it away immediately and lost out on lunch.
This was my second time trying out CRAPitol Garage. The first time was terrible as well. I ordered a grilled cheese and there was a small sprinkle of shredded cheese on the sandwich, barely enough to stick it shut. At home, I would have put 5 times more cheese then that.
What a let down.

I'm sure that this will be the standard review.....Capitol Garage was way better in it's former location. True, true. They also had better shows and the beer was cheaper. It was also one of the few all-ages venues left in town. C'est la vie.
Now the Capitol G. has grown-up and left it's nest. It's got a full bar, a full restaurant and a cleaner, more "modern-ish" feel to it. Bar, whatever, beer is expensive. Restaurant? Food is not good. Sorry, folks, but it's gross. What is nice about the new location are those giant glass window thingys that open up to the outside.....you can be sitting outside and be 2 feet from the tiny stage. Unfortunately, they haven't booked any shows that I want to see. Apparently it's all bad comedy and reggae nights. Whatever.

This is a lunch review only. Stopped by for lunch at the "new"(ish) Capitol Garage. This is the new place which replaced the old "hip" CG a few years back (where the Park is not located). While the old CG was never a garage... this new one is a attached to a garage, so now the name is much more fitting. They have huge open windows, and some nice outside seating.
I ordered their recommended spicy tuna sandwich (comes with fries) and a Sierra Nevada (came out to $12+). I've eaten here a few times before, and the food quality has been pretty consistent (tasty). However, while the spicy tuna sandwich was tasty, I didn't think it was spicy (maybe could be considered mild spicy). As usual, they had some spiced fries which I always enjoy. I didn't have to use any additional salt or use the ketchup bottle either, they were fine just the way it was presented. I think if you eat the sandwich and fries (plus beverage), you should leave the place full.
Staff were pretty friendly, and food service was quick, even though it was lunch time on a weekday, there's a lot of customers from the many government offices nearby.
Hits: Tasty tuna sandwich, full bar, everything still looks "new", open windrows make spring/summer eating enjoyable, parking shouldn't be a problem.
Misses: Outside seating limited, prices are a little on the high side for the "state worker" crowd (or maybe it was just the beer??).

Reading the other reviews, it seems the townies are too cool for this place, but for a person attending a convention, which I was last week, this place is a slice of heaven.
Located near the convention center, the garage had great, fresh, interesting food at inexpensive prices (compared to LA, at least). The wait staff was consistently friendly and quick. The place is clean and cute.
The highlight of my trip to Sacramento was sitting outside at the Cap and eating a Leaky Roof.
Highly recommended.

I remember the old Capitol Garage when I use to go hang out with my high school friends and listen to John McCrea perform solo....ah, take me back to those days of wanton innocence, warm fuzzies caused by the invisibilities of aging and the curfew enforced by my militant parents.
It has definitely grown in leaps and bounds, but now, it has dropped the old original location and moved into a more dapper and updated modern take on a chopper shop. True, the interior seems to reflect the modern appeal due to competition from Mikuni, PF Changs around the corner. But I miss the old Capitol Garage!
We went for some coffee, baked goods, and a salad that my friend was craving. I noticed a group of law enforcement officers waiting inside for their drinks and I was busy checking to make sure my ID was in my purse. Hey, you never know!
We sat outdoors because it was one of those cool clean evenings, where all the smokers sat on the other side. I was dismayed to see that the group of 6 officers sat right next to our table.
My latte was large, strong, and nicely layered. My friend's salad was large, atop a bed of mixed greens, feta cheese, cranberries and a light dressing. Sitting there watching him eat that made me want to order something of more substance. I was getting cold due to the sudden shift in temperatures so bought a chai latte. It was smooth, creamy, and very spicy. Loved it. Inside, music was starting from some sort of rap group and I was happy to be sitting outside. It was wayyyyyyyy too loud for me and my stomach to handle those rap beats.
The officers were getting louder and there is definitely something that makes me feel the urge to sit up straight, although couple of them were pretty darn cute.
Went back on a Friday night since we could not see any movies starting around 11:00 and decided to come here to see what music venue was on. Sounded like reggae, but classic, so we paid the $5 cover charge and went straight to the bar. I purchased a $6 small plastic cup of a gimlet and immediately became drunk from the strength of the drink. Music was loud but fun. Crowd was funny and diverse. We kept on seeing someone who reminded us of Ludacris and this was a gropefest. Several men used the crush of the room as an excuse to cop a feel. I felt like I was a sardine. Two pickup attempts later from someone uttering "hey, beautiful" finally got me on my last nerve.
I sound like a loop, but I do miss the old Capitol Garage, but if this is now the new and finished, then I'll gladly take it.

This pains me to say- but I have to give this place a sharp NO! for service alone. OK- our friends recommended it to us for breakfast, said they had the best breakfast ever! and we had to go. So we bolted there. Things started off well... our server was friendly, our drinks came quickly and we were happy. Then it all went south. After ordering our food we proceeded to wait. And wait. And wait some more. It was empty except for two other tables in the whole restaurant, and one big (about 8 people) group. After about 35 minutes of waiting our server came out to tell us the big group was holding up our food, but it would be right out. We waited for about 15 more minutes before I began to stare dolefully at the kitchen entrance. Then after we were ignored some more I started to panic. I believe our waitress could tell we were pissed off because she wouldn't even look at us anymore. So what did we do? Threw a 20 on the table for our mimosas and left. We probably should have left nothing.

Wow, not only has this place changed locations, it's changed every else including price, clientele, originality, and anything else I can't remember. Capital Garage to me has always meant a red building that serves OK deli stuff, some beer and coffee, and a bunch of kids stuffed in as tightly as possible to hear some music. I guess it now means a cover charge, not so friendly door guys, lots of dudes with collared shirts (which may or may not be unbuttoned), expensive drinks, and music you can hear at any other "in" collared shirt haunt (loud electronic music). I dunno... I heard they have open mike nights and other themed nights which I'll have to check out, but based on a recent sat. night there... 1 star.

This killer coffee shop is right next to beers books. I love the mural of a guy surfing the coffee wave on the side of the building, it goes well with the funky fresh atmosphere of this place. They offer they usual coffee items like cappuccino or espresso. They also offer Italian sodas and other nice cafe items. Fragrant with rich smell of coffee this a great place to stop and grab a cup.
Capital Garage is small spot that's more hip than cute. The fries are delicious and the drinks are good too but I really go for the entertainment. Bands are booked there on a regular. Every third Saturday, Addict Merchants, a local hip hop band, hosts, there is reggae on Fridays, different local bands booked every Thursday, and an open mic poetry session on Wednesdays. Cover is rarely more than $5 and there aren't very many places around here where you can get a night's entertainment for that amount!

Came here for a coffee before watching my friend cross the finish line for the Sacramento Marathon. Super friendly people...good coffee...A+ atmosphere. Loved the grungy/chic decor and comfy purple chairs. The food looked really really tasty, but I didn't have a chance to get any. Had it not been December, I would have loved to sit outside on the patio.
I went to Sacramento for a week-long conference and seriously fell in love with this place. To start with, it was clear from the get-go that it had a great deal of regulars. I became a regular while visiting the city.
The waiters, owners and bartenders are friendly and personal. They will make you any kind of sandwich you want - any sandwich they make is fantastic. I asked for a peanut butter, honey and banana sandwich (my home favourite) - delicious. I asked for an on-menu sandwich called The Purist - amazing.
Desserts are also quite nice. The vanilla bean cheesecake was rich as heaven. And try their smoothies!
In the evenings the place becomes a bar. There are live shows, amateur nights and DJ's - a chill comfy joint to just hang out. The drinks are never watered-down and in fact the place boasts "the best bartender in town" - this was information I got at another bar!

This was much more fun when it was by the old Beer's space. But the sandwich I got was more than adequate and they have the same beer as the old cafe.
mmmm.... cute place, and good music! i had the purist -- great sandwich made with focaccia bread, tomatoes, basil and mozzarella cheese. it was light and lovely, with just the right amount of toastness. and their garlic fries, which my little cousin absolutely adores (along with the garden burger), were quite amazing as well. prices aren't bad either. i would definitely come again (if i do end up getting a state job...)!!
