Capitol CasinoAs usual I will start by saying that I don't give out 5 stars very often, but I could not find 1 flaw with this place. The location kind of sucks but complaining about it would be ticky tacky yelper style and I'm not a ticky tacky yelper. Anyways I saw a sign out front proudly proclaiming a steak and eggs breakfast for $5.99 or something. The steak was alot better than you would expect for that price. It included hash browns and toast. They left a carafe of coffee for me and one person with us. The other person with us was a weirdo who wanted sprite so they left him a carafe of sprite. The damage for 3 of us was like $28 bucks. A excellent deal IMO especially considering the quality of the food. I'll be back. (No Schwarzenegger)

I was in a huge pancake breakfast mood this Sunday and my friend could always go for waffles. We had wanted to go to Jim-Dennys, but being Sunday, it was closed. The reviews for Capitol Casino Cafe (and the I-5 shutdown) made it sound really good.
When we got there, it was about what we expected. There weren't a lot of people there, and the decor is pretty spartan-generic, but that was fine. I ordered the 2+2+2 (Two pancakes, two eggs, 2 sausages) and my friend ordered the Strawberry Belgian waffle combo. They were both great... very filling and very tasty. It was just good comfort food. Capitol Casino Cafe provided exactly what we were looking for at a great price. We were both able to get very good sized plates of food for less than $15 on the whole tab.
Also, service was spectacular. The waitress Sarah was friendly, attentive, helpful, and had a great attitude. This place won't replace Jim-Denny's or Tower Cafe when I'm in the mood for something a little nicer, but it's great for what it is and at what does.

I have drove by this place a gazillion times . . .and, due to the over-tinted windows, I always thought this place was closed . . or happened to be closed during my drive-bys.
Fact is . . this place is open 24/7, it's a LOT bigger than it looks like from the outside and a LOT nicer too.
As we inadvertently took the long way around from the back to the cafe located in front . . . I was amazed at all of the people here "pokering", and/or "blackjacking" . . . and around again through a full-sized bar . . . and finally to the cafe ( I was starting to feel like this place would never end - I was HUNGRY). Enter from the 16th street side to avoid the field trip through the casino part, if your tummy is-a-rumbling.
Bonus for you smokers . . . they have a "smoker's room" . . that kinda looks like a glass-surround sound-proof booth, where the future Miss Americas wait while the competing contestant responds to the "how would you save the world, or bring about world-peace" question. Even though I don't smoke, I thought that lil room was pretty damn cool.
HUGE menu of Asian cuisine, and a small, but nice menu of breakfast items. Seems like the steak and eggs for $5.99 is a daily standard.
I LIKE this place. And, I like Ruth . . she is cool and ran out of the place after me when I forgot my leftovers . . . as, I forget alot . . I was most grateful for this added awesome service from Ruth.
Attention! Caffeine-heads - how could you not love a place that'll leave the whole carafe of coffee at your table . . and offer to split our orange juice into two separate glasses cuz we just kinda wanted a lil' bit of OJ?
The servers here are cool and seem to remember the regulars (Bob, Rich, and Walt . . come to mind), as I overheard the servers saying that "Bob is here and Walt just joined him" . . and hearing the server saying, "yep, I saw my boy Bob", by name - a LOT of regulars frequent this joint. . . , or the servers here must just have excellent memories. Since Jim-Denny's is now closed on the weekends . . . this has been a decent alternative. . . and the hollandaise is wonderfully lemony.
Did I mention that I like, no . . possibly LOVE this place and the servers too?

This place gets 5 stars in my book for three reasons. 1.) It's open 24 hours 2.) I have ordered a Club Sandwich, French Toast, Eggs, and Garlic fries; So help me those were the best garlic fries I've ever had. Same with the club, it was amazing. 3.) Honestly, I don't believe you'll find a better bargain in Sacramento.
BEST FOOD FOR THE PRICE! Everything was fresh and the service was fabulous. I highly recommend this cafe for an inexpensive night out when you are craving some bomb ass diner food.

Probably one of the sweetest waitresses I've had in a long time.
I loved that the coffee came to the table in a carafe.
The food was pretty good, nothing to write home about, but it served it's purpose. The prices weren't bad.
How's that for a glowing review?
It's actually the waitress that inspired a 4 star rating.

They serve breakfast ALL DAY LONG......outstanding value and quality according to my wife, who ate here yesterday.
Everyone should know (by now) that Matt C's wife is a very picky person, who is very sensitive to food additives in restaurants, particularly coffee shops. She loved this place, she said the breakfast was very filling, tasted great, and did not make her sick!
Four stars for the food.....one extra star for making my wife super happy, which resulted in my being happy....(won't explain further, TMI).
After driving past here umpteen billion times, I had the opportunity to eat breakfast here this morning. I was very pleasantly surprised!
They have a sign out front advertising $5.99 steak and eggs, but I decided to go with the french toast. Everyone around us was eating the S and E, so I got to check it out. I think I'll get that next time!
The coffee was strong, the hash browns crispy, and my eggs were perfectly poached. My french toast was pretty good, but nothing spectacular. My boyfriend got the biscuits and gravy with sausage, and it was delicious.
I usually go to Cornerstone for weekend breakfasts, but I think I might switch to here because it seems cleaner, the food is less greasy, and they aren't cash-only.
Considering the neighborhood that it's in, I never gave this place much thought, especially in terms of a place to have breakfast. But seeing that Sacramento doesn't have too many good breakfast joints, I figured I'd give them a try. Walking in, I expected to find a smoke filled room, with lots of tables with bleary-eyed card players. Well, the players part was right.
What really took me back, was the environment- quite a bit upscale compared to other card-houses I've been in, but not tacky. Nice, comfortable and welcoming. Taking a seat at the booth, the waiter was right on top of things, quickly providing a menu, and ready to take an order seconds after I set it down. Impressive! a short and reasonable time later, my food arrived.
The house special, as expected for a casino, is steak and eggs. But I decided to take a chance and order the scramble, which was quite good.
The price is pretty average, but considering the quality of the food, the service, and that I could see my food being cooked, I'll be going back again soon.

my definite go to place when i don't feel like going all the way out to del paso for the uptown. they always cook my food very well and the waitresses are very friendly. their onion rings are perfect and their milkshakes are some of my favorite in town. i've never had the hollandaise but one of my picky friends says it's very good.
This place is attached to Capitol Casino although you don't have to be in the mood to gamble in order to stop by. All in all its a good place to find reasonably priced food. They mainly serve sandwiches, soups, breakfasts and Chinese food items. They also have a great Steak and eggs special for about $7 that ends at noon or 1pm. I usually stop by if I'm taking an early lunch to grab this special.
Their sandwiches decent and fall on the larger portion size. I'd say the American menu resembles the kind of thing you would find at Denny's or Lyons but the food tastes better all around and its a dollar or two cheaper than most diner type places around.
I would pass on the Chinese menu items. The fried noodles are a bit too oily, the seasoning is pretty salty and the fried rice tasted too dry. Won ton soup is the only item I would consider ordering off the chinese menu.
At least the prices are reasonable probably because the place makes more than enough profit on the gambling side of their operations.
Also a good late night option. They stop serving the american food items at 10 or 11 pm but you can order off the chinese menu until 4 am. Again, not the best late night chinese food but at least its another option.
