I really enjoy the Cap Lounge. Their basement is a great place to shoot pool and look at the Russian-themed decor.

I was in town for the 4th and only went here once, sat in the window and never saw the rest of the place so I admit that's not the best way to write a review.

But based on what I did experience, I'd go back (if I lived there). The bartender was a nice woman who looked like she might bite your head off (and probably would if you gave her a hard time) but was sweet as sugar. I had the grilled cheese with onion rings. REALLY gooey and cheesy. Onion rings were a little greesy but aren't they always? We had the chicken strips appetizer and whatever they roll them in before dumping them in a deep fryer is really great. It makes them super crunchy and crispy. The sauce that comes with them was zingy and tasty; I wish I could have taken home a bottle of it.

My BF got the pizza and neither of us realized it was a big ol' pizza. So we wasted half of it, which sucked because I hate wasting food. But we were headed to the airport to go home. Damn. I hope the bartender ate it.

It's a dive full o' politicos.  Lots of cheap food and drink specials on different nights.  Dollar beers on Thursdays.  20's somethings, and packed during "intern season" (aka the spring and early summer).

Definitely not my scene, but I can see how many would appreciate the cheapness, convenience and pluckiness for being in business for so long in our nation's Capitol.

Its full of suits....but its divey....I like it. : )

Good happy hour specials (the house wine always came FILLED to the top of the glass, not classy but great for $3) and the food was good. The bar tender was pretty nice and the jukebox is fun. It can get crowded though.

Good times had by most.

"No Politics, No Miller Lite"

These are the words I am met with as I walk into this Capital Hill bar, which was actually pretty crowded on a Tuesday night at 11 PM.  Who knew the hill-billies stay up past 10?    Which is by the way, the crowd which will greet you- can't get past the conservative garb, suits and ties? Then head elsewhere, because this is this bar they all call home.

Still here?  It's a dive with personality- the first floor walls are covered in political paraphernalia, two bars, tables in the back, and a pool table, which is always occupied.  Head downstairs for the Cigar Lounge, complete with leather arm charms, another bar, some eclectic decorating, and several more pool tables, which you'll have a better chance of using.  I like it downstairs....kind of like hanging out in someone's secret clubhouse/basement....

If you're in the area, it's great for a beer.  Kind of a DC institution really.  I hear they have some great happy hour specials on bar food during the week as well- like wings, and pizza.

Whatever you do, don't order a Miller Lite.  It's banned by the bar due to some bad blood with the wholesaler....

How is it that this place hasn't been Yelped about?  Travesty!

I loved Monday's pizza specials.  Mmmmm...  Great house brew.

I heard the place burnt to a crisp in summer of 2005, but now it's back in operation.  It makes me sad to think about all the political memorabilia that was lost in the fire.

*** after Tony posted his review***

Geez Tony, don't get so bent outta shape.  You're lucky I know you in the 3-D world, thus I take your foul behavior with a grain of salt.  You're lucky I keep you around.

For the record, the Nixon stuff made me laugh.  I enjoy the kitsch factor in such memorablilia.

F-you Katherine for being the first to review this place! I was suppose to be! But Kat is right, this here was a very fine establishment. Not only did they have half off pizza on Monday, but $.25 tacos on Tuesday, and the best night of them all.....$.10 wings on Wednesdays. Boyakasha! How the hell can you not love that.  The place was always packed those days with Congressional Aides, sometimes having to stand to enjoy yer food. Next time I go to DC, I will have to check out Capital Lounge on wing night!

And if I remember right, there was a bunch of soccer memorabilia and a weird obsession with Dick Nixon.

Rock!

the first bar i've ever been in the states. 5years ago, i barely spoke english, still a big f.o.b., my american bro-in-law took me here for his company's happy hour. thought this place was super cool and nice. kicked some american dudes' asses at the pool table, smiled a lot, drank so much.

also been to their halloween party - it's pretty fun. lots of crazy people in awesome costumes.
