Carmen must be psychic. I've been going to her for over 8 years now, and trust her to get me out of any bad hair habits I might slip into.
There are times I can go to an appointment with no ideas, just hand the decisions over to her, and leave the Salon joyfully surprised.
All the staff is super helpful and polite, and the massage chairs during shampoos are almost worth the whole trip!
I'll be going back again and again...

Sandra D is my all time favorite hair stylist.  I honestly have never been more satisfied with my haircuts.  My husband went to her too and felt the same way.
I even had her do my hair in 1930s pin curls for my wedding and it turned out amazing!  Her vintage hair-dos are phenomenal.  She teaches classes even at Revamp!
Every time I'm in town from the Bay area, I have to go see her.   Shes worth every penny and a sweetie pie to boot!

My best friend is a Girl with Curls. One year, when I lived in New York and she flew in for a visit, her other friends and I chipped in and got her an appointment at the Deva salon as a birthday gift. Since she lives in L.A., she searched for a Deva-trained stylist and ended up at Capella.

I've lived here now for a total of 5 years and never once have I had a haircut that put that bounce in my step and that smile on my face! They've always just been adequate. My sister-in-law is a stylist and I would always try to wait for her to cut my hair, but since we live on opposite coasts and I need more than a couple cuts a year, I've had to visit several LA-area salons.

In total, I've been to 8 salons. Frustrated, I asked my curly-haired friend for the number to her salon, since she was so loyal and her cuts and colorings always looked great, even though I don't have curly hair. It's thin and mostly straight.

I received my best cut, by far, from Adrian at Capella.

I hold all my stylists up to the standard my sister-in-law set, and Adrian met it very easily! I sat down in her chair with an overgrown, badly-executed, A-line cut that had been finished off with thinning shears. Did I mention I have thin hair? The previous stylist even left one side of my hair about 2 inches longer than the other. Rather than go back to her, I just dealt with it until my next cut.

I was expecting to have to lose some length in order for Adrian to be able to "fix" my hair issues, but she managed to pull off a beautiful, easy-to-maintain, symmetrical, a-line cut that still frames my face and which definitely put a bounce in my step and a smile on my face! I'm sad that I have finally found her and will only have time for one more haircut before I relocate to another city!

Parking is easy, Starbucks is next door, and everyone I came in contact with was super-friendly even though it was clearly a very busy Saturday. I would give it 5 stars, but I'm reserving that for my sister-in-law. :)

For those of you with curly hair wondering who cuts my best friend's hair, I believe her name is Megan and from what I understand, she is Deva-certified but has limited availability, so book early!

For the straight-haired girls who want a great cut that's chic and easy to maintain, Adrian is your girl!

Okay.  Changing my review to one star.  Wish I could leave zero stars.

Shai saw the review I wrote here on Yelp and called me personally today, several times, on my cell phone.  When I was finally able to talk to him, he YELLED AT ME for writing him a bad review.  Some gems from our conversation:

"Well, if you need your hair fixed, you know, hair is an art, I can't get you in right away because if some layers are messed up, it is not that big a deal.  I'm not going to move my whole schedule around just for you."

"You wanted your bangs straightened but this is LA and it's not 1994, I'm an artist, why am I going to do that?"

Um, maybe because you're a business and I'm giving you money to cut and style my hair the way I want?  And if I'm not happy, it's MY fault,  not your fault?  Oh, and you're going to insult my hair too?  Nice.  Well, I'm sorry I didn't enjoy my soccer mom haircut.  Wait, no I'm not!

And if I'm dissatisfied, you're calling me to berate me about how I feel instead of trying to make it right?

Yeah, uh - thumbs up!  Mission accomplished, I'm changing my review!

I have very curly yet very fine hair.  The girl was very friendly BUT the cut was not for me.  She cut it dry, gave me some spiel about how shampoo is bad for ones hair, especially curly hair.  My hair is super oily and it has to be washed daily.  It does not dry out.  After the one size fits all curly heads cut an spiel she put all sorts of goop on my hair and scrunch dried it with a drier that looks like a hand.  I tend to air dry my hair when I decide to go curly.  I ended up looking like a wet poodle after she rolled in the mud AND it cost $95!

Sure, I've paid that in Beverly Hills and Silverlake but I also get a good cut that takes into consideration that I have FINE, SOFT curly hair that does not need to be weighed down with a bottle of gel.

If you want a good cut in the Valley go to Salon True in Sherman Oaks or go over the hill.

I love this salon. From the second you enter, you feel like you are visiting your girlfriends. You will be taken care of every step of the way. LISA is one of the best colorists in the valley (and even maybe beyond). I have honestly frequented manyyyyyyyy salons in the SFV and haven't been TRULY satisfied. I always end up getting nervous halfway through the process and freak out at the results, but with Lisa, I just sit back and let her work her magic! I leave with EXACTLY what I wanted. That is really rare. I would recommend Lisa to anybody who wants the perfect cut and color (and the BEST scalp massage). The assistants are also great and sooo hospitable.

Also, I have seen Shai work his Devacurl magic and every time I'm there, his customers leave extremely happy. I was actually surprised to see negative reviews, but I guess everyone has their own experience!

Rosie is fabulous! I've been going to her for 6 years, and have followed her to Capella where she has been for awhile. Her haircuts are great as she has great  style herself.. and she's a great colorist.. always willing to try new things.. She's easy going and fun to be around, too!

I've only been to Karen at Capella Salon and will only go to Karen because she does my hair so perfectly.  Since I have cut my hair short recently all I get are compliments on how well she cut my hair.  She is truly an artist.  Highly recommend her to anyone!!!

I went to see Shai as he was recommended on the naturally curly website.  He did a really good job with my very curly hair.  He has studied the devacurl method for cutting curly hair which means he cuts it dry and doesn't touch it when it's wet.

I didn't have to wait long.  The salon is large and bright.  He sells all the products you need to take good care of your hair.  He was also very friendly.  An overall good experience.

Shai has always done incredible work on my hair. I have been going to him for 10 years. 3 of which I lived in LA and the other 7 I have flown out from Phoenix every 3 months. There is no one who does color as well as Shai. He gives his honest opinion and is willing to try anything that I want.

I adore him and highly recommend him.

Anytime I see one of my "girl" friends looking hot with a new hairstyle I always ask - Did you go see Meagan?

And they always say "Yes!"

She's so great, I started going for my simple Dude Haircuts.

I'm so thrilled that I found Keyanna at Capella.  I was on the brink of having my hair permanently straightened when I stumbled upon http://Naturallycurly.com which recommended a "deva" cut for curly hair.  Keyanna is the stylist that does deva cuts at Capella and she did a phenomenal job.  She cuts it dry and then goes through the process of styling it curly but her and her assistant guided me through it step by step to make sure I could do it when I got home.  I bought a bunch of the products but thanks to her I've been having great success.
I saw Keyanna for highlights a month later and again she did a great job.  I also needed her to do a blow out for and although she wasn't available (despite her generous offer to move her schedule around) she recommended Andrea.  Andrea gave me a bow out and curled my hair for my engagement pictures and did a meticulous job.  I got so many compliments on my hair.
Capella has been a great salon for me and highly recommend it.

This is a follow up review.  Shai did my hair again, and it was even better than the first time.  He also colored and highlighted it, and it looks great.  My sister predicted he would be mad, because I used color remover the day before I went in, but he didn't care at all, which was really cool.  That just proves, he's not like most hairdressers.  He just wants what's best for you, in every way possible.  The color remover worked and didn't hurt anything, so it didn't bother him that I did it.  (That said, it turns out he has access to a better product not available at a beauty supply store, so you might as well have him remove your color, if you need that.)  Oh, one more thing -- one of the negative reviews on this site is from the competition down the street.  Tacky
