Cape Pogue Wildlife Refuge
1 review for Cape Pogue Wildlife Refuge
A beach can't get any better than this. Even in the summer you can find a place all to your own and in the off season walk for miles and not see another person. The best way is to bike out to the Chappy ferry and ride east to the beach. Can't really ride in the heavy sand but you can park your bike and walk along the ocean.
A great walk is north out to the Cape Pogue Lighthouse. The lighthouse is 55 feet tall and constructed in 1893. Because of the wild and exposed a lighthouse out here has been either rebuilt or moved at least nine times. Getting out here is the problem and you either need a four wheel vehicle and a permit or walk. It's about 5 miles, so it's a pretty good hike in the sand, and you have to bring your own water because there's nothing out there, But that's the whole point. You have a piece of paradise all to yourself. Can't think of a better way to spend a day.
