Great, informative wine tour. I admit i'm not a wine person, but this tour was chock full of information. Our tour guide, John was rattling off statistics and lots of information about wine making in general. In talking with a bunch of the other people that were at the tour, they were also pleasantly surprised-- a few of them had been on previous winery tours and did not have as informative tour as this one was.
We got to taste i forget now half dozen perhaps? wines that the vineyard produces and ended up buying the apple wine, and a white. -

Upon arriving to this place, it reminds me alot of Napa Valley wineries. Has a decent parking lot and a huge entrance that opens into a high ceiling warehouse. The place offers tours of which we didn't go since we didn't have time but it's probably a thing to do if you're in Cape May.
We went straight to the bar for wine tastings. Since we just bought reds from their neighbor vineyard - Turdo Vineyards, we were keen on trying whites. We tried the Reisling and bought 3 bottles. Since we're fan of reds, we tried their Red Reserve and bought these too. If you buy half dozen bottles, you get a 5% discount. -

My family and I did a tour of Cape May Winery and Vineyard last Tuesday. In season, they do tours each day at 3pm. Tickets are normally $20 each, but we had a Groupon for half-price. I think $20 is a bit overpriced, but it was definitely worth $10-15.
The tour was about 1.5 hours. We got a large Cape May Vineyard wineglass at the beginning of the tour, which we got to keep. We went through the entire process of making wine- from the vines to the final product. We got to taste wine along the way, and learned tons of interesting facts. I've been on vineyard tours before- in multiple countries- and I think this was the most factual tour I've been on. Definitely interesting.
My family had minimal expectations for the wine, but we were pleasantly surprised. We got to taste a good number of wines (maybe 7-10 wines over the course of the tour), and most of the wines were really good! We bought a few bottles to take home with us. The gift shop was small but had some fun stuff.
Overall, we really enjoyed the tour- it was informative, we got to taste lots of wine, the wine was much better than expected, and the vineyard was beautiful. Definitely do a tour if you're in Cape May, have time, and like wine! -

When we first approached the winery, I was unpleasantly surprised by the location - near powerlines and across the street from a school. However, once we entered the building, it was a different world. Wow.
The wood building and a light, restive yet inviting atmosphere. From the tasting area on the balcony, all we could notice was the vineyard and surrounding trees. A cool wind whipped up as we started on the sampling. Six wines for $6 with a glass is generally a good deal, but the portions were very small even for a tasting. There was barely enough in each glass for both my girlfriend and I to have a sip. All the wines were tasty, but most memorable was the Isaac Smith Port. The tasting including two small pieces of chocolate. I regret not taking home a bottle.
The Cape May Winery Summer Grill Night Wednesday is amazing! For $28 each, we were expecting merely a decent location and a cash bar. But we were amazed by the catered food, live music, good service, and atmosphere. As the sun slowly set to the west, we enjoyed a fresh cheese assortment; tomoato, mozzarella & onion salad; marinated chicken breasts; grilled prawns; and brownie for dessert. All the food was served buffet style with limits of one entrée per customer which is fine because the portions were sizable. The winery's wines by the glass were reasonable portions and went well with the wines.
We were also impressed that servers were available to get food for people who were mobility impaired. Everyone was polite and friendly the entire evening. The winery is a great place for a date or to pick up some tasty bottles. -

Beautiful scenery and great wines! A sampling of six wines plus a wine glass to keep was just $6.00. The scenery is beautiful and there is both a patio in the back and a 2nd floor deck that overlooks the grape fields where you can relax as you drink and snack on cheese and crackers. Must come here if in cape may!

I can't speak to the winetastings at this establishment as I attended on of the special events that they put on each month. The event I was at was described as a "seafood grill" event which I found to be completely unsatisfactory. Supposedly these events are catered by The Washington Inn (they own the vineyard), which has an excellent reputation for food. If this is so, then they should be ashamed of the food provided. One pays in advance for the events and seating is limited so the winery is aware of how many people will be in attendance. You receive a souvenir wineglass when you arrive and 2 tickets: one for food and one for wine. For your $28.00 admission price you receive one small glass of wine (your choice from reds or whites). Additional glasses of wine may be purchased for $5 to $7 per glass (or you can purchase a bottle). I would rather forego the wine glass (note to Vineyard, I have my own Reidel glasses at home and don't want your cheap wineglass) and get a second glass of wine instead. There was a small platter of nondescript cheeses (3 ) placed on a very small table in the winetasting room. Get your cheese quickly upon arrival because there is very little of it and once gone, it is not replenished. People even took the meager grape and strawberry garnishes, but again, there was very little provided. Tables were set up both inside and out for dining. The "seafood grill" consisted of grilled mahi mahi slices and hamburgers...not sure how hamburgers qualified as seafood. The side dishes were baked beans (ordinary according to my husband), a lima bean/corn mixture and a pasta salad which did contain shrimp. The best of the 3 was the lima bean/corn dish which is saying something since I ordinarily do not care for lima beans. There was no dessert provided, although a small amount of thinly sliced watermelon was placed on the table that formerly held the cheese.
There was waitstaff circulating so they could easily have passed a small finger "dessert" . As anyone in the food industry knows, you want people to leave happy so offering some lovely chocolates, dipped strawberries or macaroons would have been a very lovely touch. Instead, nada which made for a very flat end to the evening. The Washington Inn lost my future business. If they feel this is an acceptable "event" then they are not an establishment that I would choose to frequent. There appeared to be an owner or manager at the "event" but he chose to speak only to people that he knew. If he had come by my table I would have been happy to engage him in this discussion because the venue of the Vineyard is lovely. However, you can't eat the view. Save your money and go elsewhere. -

Went here a few summers ago. There are actually a few wineries in Cape May County. Who knew?! I was pleasantly surprised to learn about this one. I would have liked to do the wine tasting but it was not available when we went. We did get to sample a few kinds. Then, went outside with a glass, sat at a picnic table, and enjoyed the afternoon. We even walked around the vineyard a bit. I ended up buying two bottles which were pretty inexpensive.

my fiance took me on what we call "dateventures" to the cape may winery. pulling up, i loved how the outside looked. inside was really nice, and the staff were welcoming and friendly. we did the $6 wine tasting and got to try 6 wines and keep the glasses. i wish the pour was slightly more generous but that is the only complaint i have, if that even counts. we were the only ones tasting so it would have been nice to get a little hook up! :) obviously we still gave this place 5 stars bc everything else was so perfect. the wines were surprisingly good and it felt great to check out a NJ winery. We went on a warm beautiful day and were so excited when the lady pouring us samples told us about the deck. we bought a bottle of wine and a cheese platter and went upstairs to sit out on the deck overlooking the vineyard. it was so relaxing and pretty! we could have drank another bottle up there bc we didn't want to leave! we went on a friday so we had the place to ourselves up until a family of 4 came onto the deck to enjoy their wine too. it was a great day trip. we drove 2.5 hours and i feel it was worth every minute of the ride! other than the winery, cape may has many other beautiful places to explore, making it a fun NJ destination.
