worth every mile of the drive to reach this magical trail. I was fortunate to be here on a sunny day, but would have been just as awe-struck on a rainy/windy day.

Worth every hour of time it took to drive and hike to this point. The views are breathtaking and beautiful. The hike itself isn't bad, but definitely further than I thought based on websites, reviews, etc. Be prepared for it to be muddy. And, of course, it will likely be windy and rainy. But it will also be an amazing experience. And besides the views, it feels pretty cool to be able to say I stood on the most northwest point of the continental US.

Upon having a weekend out of the city, we drive to Cape Flattery - the furthest northwest point of the contiguous of the US.  Driving from Neah Bay to the parking lot of Cape Flattery consisted of a drive on a gravel/dirt road for a good portion.  Surprisingly we did not get a flat (those potholes are awful) and we were on our way.

From the parking lot to the end of the trail is a walk, mostly with boardwalks.  Those that aren't boardwalks are normal trail material - which on this day, was very flooded.

The view was great, albeit it was super rainy so the weather could have been better.  I'm glad I went, but doubt I'd ever make the drive up there again.

If you are on the West side of the Olympic Peninsula, Cape Flattery is definitely a place that you must make time to see.

It is the most northwestern point in the lower United States.

It is about 6 miles from Neah Bay, 18 miles from Clallam Bay, 16 miles from Sekiu, 42 miles from Forks and about 2 hours west of Port Angeles.

The trail has been enhanced and maintained which now consists of both a well groomed trail and some parts that are a cedar boardwalk.

There are 4 separate viewing areas while winding yourself down the trail which can be reached via a 20 to 30 minute walk (3/4 of a mile hike).

In the last viewing area you will see Tatoosh Island where the lighthouse is located and the public is not allowed to visit.

There is no admission cost to hike the trail, but you do need to purchase a Recreation Permit upon entering the reservation. These can be purchased at the Makah Marina, Washburn's General Store, Makah Tribal Center, Makah Museum, Neah Bay Charter & Tackle, Makah Fuel Co. and the Makah Smoke shop.
They Cost $10 per car and are valid for the calendar year in which they are purchased.

Wow!! What an amazingly magical place. I could have watched the waves come in all day. The peaceful walk out to the Cape...the path was even picture-worthy. When I arrived at the point I was greeted with the most amazing green in the water below. I really would have stayed all day if I could have...amazing, truly.

...and the roads paved now so you can easily drive right to the trail head.

Hand cut cedar planks perfectly placed take you out to the Western-most tip of the U.S. and the tip of the Makah Nation - land that's been kept in this tribe's care and has been part of their lives since the beginning of time.  If you can't feel the magic in these woods and as you gaze from these cliffs... well...  fling yourself from them.
