2 reviews for Canoe's Lanai Restaurant
I'd really like to give this place 21/2 stars. Ambiance is definitely lacking, menu is limited. I characterize it as "early rundown". Having said that, we found the service to be good, food to be yummy (we just had breakfast) and the locals just kept flocking in and out. The price is definitely right compared to the breakfasts at the Four Seasons (omelette - $20+, oj $7 per glass) but of course the Four Seasons setting is something to behold. They are only open for breakfast and lunch, but come watch what the locals eat and enjoy the ALOHA spirit which abounds on this island.
I just got back from Lana'i and let me tell you, I have a new favorite meal. I'm not kidding. I love fried, cheesy food, so if you're a health nut, this may not be the place for you. My boyfriend is into healthy food and he got an Ahi Salad, which he thought was okay, not bad. The service and the ambiance was good for me because I wanted a local, homey, modest, and undecorated restaurant. I definitely didn't receive different service than the locals. I got the Tanigawa signature recipe Borges burger... AMAZING! Apparently, Ms. Tanigawa is the founder and her recipe has held through all this time. The Borges burger is a hamburger patty with bacon and cheese, "special sauce," and a fried egg. I had it for brunch on TWO days I was in Lana'i because it was so good I had to go back. I know, an egg on a cheeseburger may sound weird, but it changed my life.
