The view, rooms, binoculars in the room and tub took this hotel to the 5 star rating! We enjoyed our stay.

My only comment would be that the staff could learn more about making recommendations to guests. We overheard them tell someone that there weren't many espresso shops in Astoria and then directed them to Starbucks. We saw over 9 coffee shops on our way out of town, it would be nice if they directed people to local businesses.

We got a ride in the classic car one night - it was great and the driver was full of good information.  Directed us to an awesome breakfast place for  the next day!

It is expensive, but with the view of the ships, water, bridge it made for a very nice and romantic get away!

I want to stay at this hotel next time.
The lobby and room is so comfy and beautiful. (The staff showed me one of their rooms.)
This is one of the newer hotel there. The hotel is a replica of the old cannery.
They have this old classic car takes guests to the restaurant and places.
FUN!

This is hotel is just fantastic. I've stayed all over the world, high and and low end and except for the breakfast the place is right on the money. You are right on the water, so really bring a picnic to your room, llioght the fire and you never have to leave. Our room had a window at tub level, we soaked in the jet tub for hours watching the moon rise over the bridge. They are very accomodating to those with accesible needs, a rarity in the industry. Like most of the other reviews, we also checked in after happy hour and they gave us a glass of wine and some lovely smoked salmon and carried it to our room.

Now if they could only have some plain yogurt instead of stuff full of fake sweetners. I never understand why breakfast in the US is either dounuts or waffles or low fat yogurt? Oh well, coffee was good. I would stay here again in a heart beat. Really fantastic rooms and fantastic service.

Great hotel. Recently built and with excellent service. Justin, the front desk clerk was awesome at his job of making us feel warm, welcome, and always helpful. Even though our rooms were not ready when we arrived, he quickly contacted housekeeping to move it to the top of the list and provided us with a few ideas of what to do around the Astoria area while we waited. The rooms were beautiful with a soft bed and huge view of the shipping canal. The binoculars in each room was just a great touch. Perhaps the only drawback was that the wifi didn't seem to reach our room, but really, we were on vacation anyway! Definitely our first choice to stay in Astoria again.

I have not even finished the stay and i am won over!

First off, this place is a bargain. I don't know what it is like in summer (and I am sure it is more), but we got a killer deal on the internet and we are spending Comfort Inn $ on a swanky room sitting right on the water. A tanker just went by our room and scared the hell out of me. Looked like I could have made a jump for it and started a new life!

When they say on the water, they mean every word! This place is an old cannery that sits on a pier w/ one of a kind views of the river and the bridge. I watched fog roll in under my feet tonight!

We get here late and they hand us cookies while informing us about the evening wine tasting that we missed! Then get this! They offer us a glass and bring it to us! They offer to take us into town if we are hungry. No asking for anything... they got you covered. In 15 minutes we are in the back of an old buick, chatting to the driver (same person that  got the wine in our tired hands!) and she is taking us to a local brew house for some good beer and great food.

How can you beat this? Well... there is the fire place... the huge old style deep claw foot tub that must be 6 feet long... the rain head show encased in glass and a porch that sits on top of the Columbia river. Did I mention the blinds that open the tub to the hotel room? I am a fan of this style. We have stayed at the Opus in Vancouver, BC (double tub that has a window to the rest of the room!) and the Ace in Portland ( sliding wall that opens up claw foot tub to entire living area!).

I still have not gotten to try out the exercise equipment, the hot tub or the sauna (all open 24 hours!!!). it is all located in the on site spa. I don't think I want to ever leave!

Add breakfast in the morning to the wine in the evening and you have a solid winner!

I will try to upload some pics of this place later! Right now it is late and I need to get some rest for the adventures to come!

Tell how to get back...to the Cannery Pier. Gotta get back...

Romantic weekend. Two years ago. They gave us bikes. Mine was pink and had a bell. Our room wasn't ocean view, Baby, it was over the ocean.

There is free breakfast and happy hour and pulled all the smoked salmon off my crackers and I'd do it again.

A man in a hat drove us to town for chowder to go in an antique Plymouth.

I walked around the room petting the fixtures; they were so perfect.

Every weekend getaway I've had since has been chasing this one.  Watch for the off-season rates and specials. Well worth the $200 but I think we only paid about $90 in October.

Best kept secret in the Pacific Northwest!  Kudos Cannery Pier!

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights between a visit to Portland and back to Seattle. We LOVED the Cannery Pier Hotel! From the beautiful, original decor to the comfortable bed to the absolute most helpful staff, this is one of my favorite hotels in the country.

David on the night shift was so extrlemely helpful and friendly and was our chauffeur to dinner on our second night. He also helped us with breakfast recommendations for the following morning.

We enjoyed the whirlpool, the water view everywhere we looked, and the lovely bathroom with a claw foot tub that has a window to the water. The toiletries are Crabtree & Evelyn - a special treat! There are classic beach cruiser bicycles available for guest use and the hotel is located right between 2 trolley stops.

The only thing wierd was the brick colored painted walls and ceiling in the water closet - i found it to be a little creepy.

Great place!!  A couple of notes I didn't catch in other reviews.  Some positive, and some negative.

1. The hotel is located on Astoria's river walk - a paved multi-use trail (the trolley being one of the uses) which stretches 2 or 3 miles along the waterfront.  I had a fantastic, scenic morning run.

2. The whirlpool and sauna are complimentary.  They are in the spa area, but they are free and open 24 hours.  Also, loaner swimsuits are available at no cost, if you don't mind something salvaged from the lost & found and then sanitized.

3.  Our room was 60 degrees cold when we checked in at 10pm.  I was already cold from a football game, so this was disappointing.  I didn't know about the loaner swimsuits yet, so I opted for a hot bath.  The room was so cold that it was hard for the bath to heat properly because the lovely clawfoot tub is the ceramic or clay kind which gets cold when the room is cold.

4. Though we missed wine & cheese by checking in at 10pm, the desk clerk offered us a glass to take to our rooms.  Nice touch.

5. The gas fireplace in the room is wired to the thermostat.  So, it goes on & off at will, according to how you set the room temperature.  When it went off in the early morning, it woke me up with the clanking sound metal makes as it cools.

I would definitely stay here again. I'd like to catch the 10K they have on the bridge next year.

When this place says they are on the river, they mean they are ON the river. The hotel itself is on a pier 600 feet into the Columbia. If you got any closer to the river, you'd be swimming with the fishes!

I stayed here for a business trip, and the hotel generously took government rate for Astoria, which is a whopping $85. Generally, the room I stayed in would go for $179+, which I think would still be a good deal. This is one of the nicest hotels I have stayed at in recent memory.

THE VIEW:  Columbia River. The hotel is situated just west of the Astoria Megler bridge, and I could easily spot the lighthouse at Cape Disappointment during my stay. Tugboats and barges travel what seems like mere feet from your private deck, or you can sit safely inside on the window seat and spy on people across the river with provided binoculars.

THE ROOM: I booked a "Deluxe Room". King bed, nice TV, small dining table, small couch, window seat, private deck and the amazing bathroom. Separate shower and claw foot soaking tub, the bathroom complex is almost as large as the bedroom/sitting area. Shutters between the room and the bath allow the person in the tub to see the river while lounging in Mr. Bubble. Nice gas fireplace to warm things up, microwave, wet bar and fridge.

THE STAFF: Very polite and accomodating.

OTHER AMENITIES: Finnish sauna, hot tub, small exercise room. Good continental breakfast, nice fresh fruit salad. Lox, cheese and wine each evening. Free chauffered 1939 Buick, and doggies can stay too! My pup got a nice comfy bed, chew toys, tennis balls and other treats. There is an onsite spa for those who wish to indulge.

The fact that this place is so amazing makes up for its few shortfalls: hardly anywhere for the dog to go potty (have to walk up the pier for a small patch of grass), no closet  - only a combo dresser/wardrobe/entertainment center. When I visited, there were some very heavy-footed ODOT workers housed on the floor above me, and being on the 1st floor, when the tide comes in, the water makes a fair amount of noise UNDER your room. I'd suggest booking a 3rd floor room just to be safe.  But that's really being nit-picky. This place is swell.

(get it? har har)

I stay here every year to celebrate my wedding anniversary and always have a great time!  It's a quiet, relaxing and well-appointed hotel with large rooms.  Each room has a gas fireplace, sitting area with sofa and beautiful river view.  There is a small day spa on the first floor complete with a Finnish sauna and a whirlpool.  I recommend the romantic couples massage with aromatherapy and hot stones.  When looking for food, walk over to the Bridgewater Bistro and get the clam and mussel chowder and the swedish meatballs - you won't be disappointed!  If you don't want to walk, reserve one of two classic cars that will drive you wherever you want!

This is an excellent place to stay in Astoria.  It's not in the little "downtown" area, but Astoria is a small town, so no biggie.  Our room was right on the river, you could stand out on the tiny patio and feel the water splashing up.  We were there on a spring day and caught an amazing rainbow over the bridge.  The room we stayed in was 2 queens, very nicely decorated, with a fireplace.

The only reason I wouldn't give it 5 stars is we all got a little sick from the complimentary wine and cheese (I blame the lox) that evening.  But we can't be sure, its just the only thing all 3 of all ate all night.

But the room and decor were gorgeous.  We will stay here again.

This hotel is hands down the only place to stay if you want to have an awesome room, and an unbeatable view of the ships and water. Youa re literally IN the Columbia River. It can be a little pricey, so a long stay may not be affordable. We had friends visiting from out of the counrty, they stayed here, and said they would come back just to stay in the hotel again! This is a great place, don't miss it!

We stayed in a suite (rm 401) and it was amazing. Nice fireplace & tub, and fun to watch the ships go by and enjoy the river. I would give it a five except for a few drawbacks - it's alittle boring in astoria and the place is definately not hip. But bring your own bottle of wine and enjoy the room.

Astoria is the town many people may know from 'Goonies' where the Goonies house is still a tourist attraction twenty years after its release.  What was a sleepy coastal town in Oregon has recently seen a wave of Californians, Seattle-ites and Portlanders flush with new fortunes buying second homes here after Tahoe and Bend got too crowded.  Astoria is a great little town and its recent resurgence is reflected in the construction of several new hotels along the edge of the Columbia River.  The Cannery Pier Hotel, housed in a former packing plant, is one of the entries into the hotel scene and in my opinion, the only one worth staying at.   The hotel is a relative bargain for the amenities and service you receive here: the hotel owns a vintage 1939 Buick available to chaffeur guests around, free of charge, internet access is complimentary and the front desk service is some of the best I've seen.  The hotel also offers complimentary lox and light snacks every afternoon and the staff knows every restaurant inside and out -- they booked dinner for us at a local seafood restaurant where we were able to eat salmon that had been caught that day.  Every room has a view and from the bay window seat you can watch ship traffic on the river with the thoughtfully provided binoculars.  If you do visit, be sure to leave some time to visit the Columbia River Maritime Museum and the weekend Farmer's Market -- they make for a very fun day in Astoria.
