I finally got to drop in here last weekend hoping to see some Memorial Day deals going on.  Unfortunately, there was no such thing.  CC has impeccably-stocked independent labels, a rack of vintage goods, a table of jewelry, and fun miscellaneous gift items like candy and cards.  However, after flipping over the price tags, I decided I wouldn't be adding any of CC's merchandise to my collection.  I'm not a cheapo by any means when it comes to clothes, and I'll shell out good money for good quality items, but I couldn't justify paying upwards of $250-$300 for some of the dresses there because I've seen several of them at other SF boutiques for less.

Another thing: I was eyeing up a cute leather bag hanging on a rack.  "Oh that's one of a kind," the salesperson walks over to me.  "The designer makes each one out of vintage leather jackets so they're all different."  I thought this was a cute idea so I asked how much.  "$300," she tells me.  Upon closer inspection I can see that the leather material has some scuffs and wear.  If the bags were in pristine condition, I could understand forking over some good cash... but the quality was just lacking.  I know it was an artistic idea and probably took the designer a while to make, but still..

I will give CC props on their card & gift section.  Very cute stuff for reasonable prices.  I picked up an awesome journal/ notebook that I totally love.  The customer service here is also superb.

I'll be back sometime soon, even if it's only to browse.

Heard about this place through Daily Candy and receive their emails but only recently made a trip out to the actual store.

The selection is good: lots of indie designers mixed in with typical brands you may find in other boutiques here and there.  I am constantly searching for a unique piece and found just that here.  Prices range from relatively inexpensive to slightly expensive.

The customer service is good (so long as you initiate communication) and it's a great place to pick up small trinkets and inexpensive gifts for friends.  The men's selection tended to be small.

This boutique is definitely worth checking out for pieces from new designers.

Fun, girly ,well-designed pieces by locals.
Oh, they have a small selection for guys as well.
Today I picked up the recycled leather Obi Wrap Belt
by taxi CDC. They were recently featured at the indie mart street fair.
Bright airy space with lots of room to maneuver around other browsers.
The fitting rooms are spacious and the staff is  helpful without being
overbearing. Be sure to check out the shoe selection hiding in the corner.
The name "CandyStore" isn't just for fun, look over the old-school candies for purchase on display at the counter while your purchases are totaled at the register . .

I have to say, going into a store where the women working there are normal-sized is an incredibly welcome change of pace. Add to that the fact that they were both really friendly, and one of them helped me embark on an epic jeans search, and you have a very happy customer at the end of the day. Their stock is chock full of cute stuff, but it is somewhat limited (though I get the impression that I hit the between-season slump), and they do cater to the smaller ladies which is a bit of a disappointment, but overall, I do believe I'll be coming back for a treat or two sooner rather than later.
Also, cute housewares and coffee table books! Ach! Kitsch I can't keep my grubby fingers away from!

I needed a birthday card ASAP and Candystore saved the day. They have such a great selection of unique cards. I hate sending notes to my friends and getting an email saying how they saw the card in stores and thought it was cute then, too! Boo.

Anyway, the one I chose (yes, I am going to describe it to you) is small and white and is from pancake and franks (eww, wouldn't want to have that for dinner). According to their website, "Pancake & Franks paper collection is for those who appreciate little pieces of art. Artisan quality and design, our beautiful letterpress cards are sustainable, we print locally on 100% recycled paper post consumer waste."

Sounds good to me! The card has a bunch of yellow bees on it and the phrase "Happy BEE day". Get it? Hahaha. Yeah, I laughed in the store, too. Worth the $5.50, I'll say.

Friendly cashier and I was tempted to buy some candy but my boyfriend pinched my muffin top and I refrained. Ugh.

"Nope, nothing fit me, sorry!" Is generally what I get to say when walking out of the dressing room at boutiques. It really makes shopping at those nice little stores so easy. I get to go and play with the pretty clothes without actually having to shell out the cash for them.

Unfortunately, this is not the way it worked at CandyStore.

I gathered up my three adorable items and headed to the dressing room figuring that the puffy sleeves would make my arms look fat, the tunic shirt would hit my knees and make me look like an Ewok, and the hoodie...well, I guess I'm not sure what could have gone wrong with the hoodie. Regardless, they all fit, they were all cute, and I simply had to have all three of them...and you know....while I have my wallet out...I guess I'll take a better look at the accessories. Uggh...

And so went the story of me at the CandyStore, and it felt familiar, a little too familiar. Actually! This is what I was like as a kid...a kid in a CANDYSTORE!

Oh well, don't feel too bad the clothes are mostly made by independent designers and priced between $60-$120, this is something I could save my allowance for - and I picked up some Dots :)

My favorite boutique in San Francisco, they've got a bit of everything, retro dishware, locally crafted goods, cool jewelry and DOTS!  Those candy dots on long strips of paper!!!  I have a ridiculous sweet tooth and a thing for amazing customer service and this place satisfies.  Always have good music playing, Mason Jennings was playing last time I was there - great shopping music!

unfortunately, minus one start for being 'spensive.

Update: I just bought some hot vintage Tony Lama cowboy boots here, Travolta look out!

One of my favorite boutiques in the Mission, probably all of SF. This certainly is a store, and they do have some candy, but the real draw is unique art, cool clothes and home accessories, fun t-shirts, all with an eye towards indie style.  Sweet selection of men's ties too.

Ungh, everything here is so heartachingly beautiful. It just kills me that nothing really fits me here because I have the most nonstandard body shape and my bank account and credit cards are crying from constant abuse.

I've always complained that clothes shopping in San Francisco seems like more of a task than an act of leisure. The Candystore however, has brought so many hip and amazing up and coming designers together in one store and merchandises their wares in such a clever and creative way. So although I can't really buy anything, this store is certainly a wonderful departure from any other clothing store in the city, and besides...a girl can always dream.

they are ridiculously overpriced.  but sometimes ive found some swell stuff on sale.  i got some pants there once, but the zipper kept falling down.

i feel like thats the perils of independent design though, right?  its innovative, so its bound to fail.

i like this store--well curated selection of kiddie stuff too.

though i wish they'd keep their markups in check.  i will not spend $3 on a button, for chrissakes.

Hey, who knew Cheap Monday discriminated against Christians? Wow, that is a selling point in my book if I ever heard of one. Everytime I shop here I normally drool for the Del Forte jeans because the fit kicks ass, they are locally produced and they are made with organic cotton. Also I can find the perfect top that would go with the jeans and then I move on to the shoes that I envision on my feet. While I can't really afford the pricepoint, the stuff isn't really outrageous (the woes of being a student). It seems accurately priced for small designer lines. Take a peek for the clothes, jewelry and the shoes. If you can't afford that, you can always walk out with a handful of candy.
I myself will be saving for the anti-Christian jeans. Thanks fellow Yelper for the inside scoop.

I love this place for reasons other than the candy they sell. I know it's hard to believe, but sometimes things besides food really steal my heart. Such as the darling dresses and jewelry on rotation at the CandyStore.

Offering a fabulous marriage of vintage and new items, this shop provides thoughtfully selected accessories, clothes, cards, home items, and, of course, candy. Definitely a great place to hit up when shopping for others, but because you're selfish as hell--yes, you are-- CandyStore's even better for buying something for the most important person in your life: me.

Oops, I mean you. For you to buy for you. Or me. Whatever.

Love this store. It's a bit expensive, but if you're wise and shop the sale racks there are some cute things to be found at reasonable prices. And for a nice boutique, well, the prices aren't crazytimes at all.

Practically everything I bought at Candystore (dresses, jeans, blouses, bags, scarves, jackets) has earned me a compliment or two. I'm your average size 8, but shopping the ricockulously small sizes at most boutiques leaves me mistakenly believing I've been crowned Queen Pigling of Fatlandia. Not so at Candystore. I always find something I like.

Plus, the staff is always friendly and never, ever condescending.

I'm terrible at buying shoes. Really, really terrible. Little did I think that of their 10 pairs of shoes I would end up buying one, but I did. The woman who helped me knew a lot about shoes and didn't pressure me.

So now I have new shoes and a place to find expensive gifts for expensive friends. I almost ended up gifting myself a new, more feminine wallet but it's not quite the holiday season...yet.

EVerytime I walk down 16th street, I always pass this cute store but never got interested in coming in until one day I was walking back from Carnival.

The store is really cute, so is their stuff. I really like the interior design of this store. It's very clean, bright, and slightly Victorian. I guess they have a little bit of everything from home decor to accessories. I like their clothes collection the best. They carry most of the brands I've seen at Doe, but only better =)

Two things I like the most about this store. Their dressing rooms. I love their coat hanger. The fact they also sell candies! Everything is so yummy!

CandyStore is cool because even if your bank account is a little anemic, you can at least afford a piece of candy while browsing through their sweet clothes.
They are now carrying DelForte black jeans.  I own a pair and wear them jeans almost everyday.  They are heartily endorsed by my boyfriend, who thinks they make my ass look "hot".  Also they're made with organic cotton and come from a locally-owned company.

There are many reasons to love CandyStore: It's a bigger and better version of their original Hot.  They carry our favorite jam (Pomogranate by CMB Sweets, so good we put it in our wedding cake, yum!), the clothes are adorable, the accessories are unique and fun (I just picked up the coolest red vintage purse that has pink jellyfish painted all over it)...and they even stayed open late on Sunday night so we could pick up a last minute birthday gift.

If you are looking for the same old boring stuff, don't bother.  But if it is something unique you are after, get your butt down to 16th and check it out.

If you are still not convinced, I have 3 Words for you - Bit-O-Honey.

$220 for a cardigan? What the hell?

I don't really know what to think of this place. I should state that I'm all for independently designed, non-sweatshop, stylish clothing. On the other hand, the exorbitant prices really put me off. I will say that this place definitely leans more towards the female demographic, but they also have really cool cards and yes, they do have candy.

I think the ultimate decision on what to rate this place would be to determine whether, if money were no object, I would buy clothes here. I'm not sure that I would.

I was expecting more from a cute boutique that garnered 4 stars nearly across the board.  Some of the clothing is fashionable and unique, but none is affordable (for me, anyways), and there isn't much of it.

On the plus side, they carry fluffyco stuff, which I love.  Also, I like their affordable knick knacks such as mini sock monkeys, accessories, and paper goods.

I wasn't greeted upon my entrance, like two customers who followed me, but as soon as I inquired about a product, the salesgirl showed herself to be very helpful and amiable.  In fact, she was so chatty that I was nearly out the door before I could extricate myself from the conversation.

What girl doesn't enjoy a visit to the CandyStore?

I love this little boutique, with it's eclectic assortment of locally-designed apparel, jewelry, tableware, cards, and a bits and pieces of miscellany.

The vibe is bright, friendly, hip, and slightly tongue-in-cheek.  Shoppers & staff seem to enjoy hanging out there.  Whether you are buying a new dress for yourself, a fun T-shirt for a guy-pal, a quirky baby gift for your cousin, or an original piece of jewelry for your best friend, you are likely to find something at CandyStore.

Very cute and welcome boutique. Candy Store raises the bar for the Mission boutique store and thank god: walking past Dema makes me gag.

Clothes are awesome. I also love the cards, which are dangerous because you find a perfect one for someone and then you see the card costs $4 and you think, omg 4 dollars! but then you feel guilty because isn't this person worth $4?

Some things are a little *too* precious/weird, like the cloth rocks that look vaguely made out of dryer lint.

Also I have to dock one star for the service. She may have been new, or couldn't handle the influx of people that emerge on a sunny day but that's no reason to bark at a woman who wants to put her shopping bag behind the counter (so the woman can shop more!) or humiliate a guy in front of his girlfriend because he's checking to make sure he's gotten exact change. Yes, older, blonde, crazy saleswoman: I'm looking at you.

Some stores tease with their names, making you think they sell one thing instead of something completely different. Case in point: Needles & Pens (just up the street on 16th) made me think it was a tattoo parlor. The name completely makes sense once you go--it sells things that are made with needles or pens--but I wouldn't have known without visiting. This store, on the other hand, really does sell candy. It has lots of different kinds in big glass jars behind the counter. That said, they also sell cool clothing and accessories that, while out of my price range, are totally the kinds of pieces I'd love to rock. It's the high prices that knock CC down to three stars, so maybe, when I'm rich (and/or famous) I'll be able to shop here and put the rating up to four or five stars.

Candystore is one of those Mission boutiques that I head to always hoping that I'll find something I adore and covet immediately, and that it coincidentally happens to be in my size and the right fabric and color (and on sale, to boot).

What usually happens is that I start browsing the clothing racks [still in high hopes, mind you] and will find 2-3 items to try on. They're usually  pretty dresses by smaller labels like Fremont, Soni & Cindy, or a whimsical print by Orla Kiely. So it's hard to mask my disappointment when the fit is a bit off or they run out of my size. The price point is a little high for my budget even when marked down on sale, so I'll opt for a tunic from Park Vogel ($88) instead of splurging on a 300+ dollar dress.

So in summary: I head to Candystore hoping I'll find something new for my wardrobe, but usually depart with some crafty, more inexpensive goods (Pancakes & Franks cards, an acrylic diamond silhouette ring, or Mambly Screen Prints rub-ons in owls and Victorian housewares shapes) or an SF Map Tote in hand. And the hope that next time, they'll have something adorable in my size.

P.S. The menswear lines are decent, lots of Morphine Generation, hoodies, and clean-cut polos and shirts from lines like Trovata.

I stopped by the shop, thinking it would be a great shop, but it's just OK.  The decor is cute, but the clothing selection for women consisted of baggy, boxy, and "mature" clothing.  Not very hip or stylish.  Same with the shoes.  My BF passed on the mens' clothing, calling it, "What a skateboarder would wear on a first date."

The jewelry selection has mostly small pieces, which I like a lot.  I would go back to take another look at them.  I also like the cards displayed on salvaged wooden doors.  The candy was tempting, as I am a candy fiend!

Cute store... I guess.  I thought it was full of exceedingly impractical things though.  Maybe my thoughts were showing through to my face, and that's why I was ignored by all of the employees.

It reminds me of Rare Devices, expect that it has better selection, better sales, and slightly more reasonable prices.  The stationary and decorations are adorable, but again, I just can't imagine a need for stationary that costs $6 a card.

If you have too much money though, definitely head on down to Candystore - I'm sure they can take care of that for you.

Swoon-worthy everything!

There are few places in the city with such impeccable stock.  I want to faint and/or vomit (but in a good way....?) every time I come in here.  I mean, this is also one of the most depressing places on the planet for me because the ratio of things I want to buy myself here is almost as high as the price per item.  But it's so lovely inside and the staff is so nice/funny/wacky, that even if I can't afford anything it gives me a kind of serene feeling walking in here.  It's so full of prettifulness that sometimes I'm even able to put aside my bitterness at not being filthy rich and actually want to CURE my malaise by going inside.  I actually derive comfort from Candy Store.  Because if things this beautiful can exist in this world, then things can't be all bad, can they?

And occasionally I can even afford something, and then it's like the Hallelujah chorus and the angels flying down and being all like "DAMN GIRL YOU LOOK SO FINE IN YOUR NEW PRETTY FROCK/HOT NEW JEANS"

and I'm all like "Shit angelz, I KNOW, jelas???"

Update: am removing a star because of the limited size selection. The last two times I've come in here, they were out of my size in all the clothing that I liked/wanted. Yes, that is kind of a "cry me a river" problem, but can't they better manage the inventory to match demand?

This is a great boutique! Kind of has a hodge-podge of stuff - vintage and new clothes, home stuff, and other random odds and ends (vintage french matchboxes?). I think that their true strength is in the selection of jewelry that they have, mostly by local designers. Most of the pieces are really edgy and unique, and fairly affordable.

More stores need to have bars in them, cuz there is nothing like drunk shopping. Except maybe drunk dialing.
I am really liking this place! Cute litle fabric animals for kids, that I want. Little tea cups with ships or guns on them, I want. A bar at the art opening serving home made strawberry margarita, I got. Too much cute stuff- this place is chasing down my other fave 16th St store Therapy. This is my favorite boutique in SF. Great dresses, cool tops and a small, but fun shoe selection. they recently beefed up their jean collection too.

Some stuff is really pricey, but other stuff is surprisingly affordable.

the best part about this place is that they refresh the inventory really often, so every time you go in, you find new stuff (I've found some Mission boutiques will have some of the same stuff for over a year!!).

They are also willing to pull stuff out of the back for you to try. The service is excellent. I have friends from NYC who always make a stop here when they're in town to stock up. Their jewelry selection is also really great.

This has to be one of my most beloved... of all of the SF boutiques (why aren't there more? Uprising people!!! ) THIS is my most favorite.
If I am ever, which I frequently am, in one of my " Fuck, what am I gonna wear tonite" moods. Candy never lets me down. $ is no object when this neurosis occurs, and although I often find good deals here, what I find more often is QUALITY NOT QUANTITY. This is my kind of candy land....

Beautiful stuff here. It was hard to concentrate on helping with the Yelp event yesteday, with all the vintage goodies and little trinkets in this place. The Candystore is artfully laid out, with tons of subtly placed vintage touches: such as old TV guides or dated board games. The candy jars lined up behind the counter are wonderful; packed with nostalgic rare candy delights, that I  can remember getting painfully caught in my teeth and hair as a child. I had a wistful eye on some of their hats and an especially gorgeous silk blue dress. If you're in the Mission, I highly recommend a stop over. The staff are cool, as are the clothes and deco.

i do like this store. sometimes i want to hate it, but then i end up finding some sweet purchase that i am immediately obsessed with. for example, that vintage, red hard-shell wallet that i convinced myself i was buying for a friend's birthday then immediately stuffed with my own cards/cash/credit.

they carry good lines here, independent designers, and clothes with just the right amount of chic flare. i get a weird vibe from one of the women who works here - she's all nervous energy and rule-bound. but, hey, i'm willing to let that slip considering how she facilitates my internal rationalizations for unnecessary but fun purchases.

It's a really cute boutique of mostly women's clothing, although they do stock other items, such as jewelry, shoes, and home furnishings (e.g., throw pillows).  It's hard to walk by and not be tempted to go in.  Unfortunately, I'm stuck with browsing, as I can't afford at least half the things in there.
