Category: Candy Stores [Edit]
Neighborhood: Fisherman's WharfSalt Water Taffy lovers galore. All different types of flavors. Not something I"m into.
They have tons of old school candy that you can't find in the the neighborhood liquor stores anymore.
Big Hunk, Bit o honey, Violet Crumble, Abba Zabba..you get the picture.
Just hate all the traffic inside.

If you're on a hunt for classic candy bars, you may find it here----but for $2 a pop. Oh Henry, Old Fashioned Taffry, Uno---those kind of bars.
There was this one bar my buddy was craving for called the Violet Crumble made in Australia. I yelped it and they had it here so here we came. It's a candy bar made out of honeycomb and covered in chocolate. Sorta tastes like smores. And there's this crackle (not teeth shattering crackle, but just a pop) that you hear as you bite into it. It's pretty good. And if you want to pay $2 for a bar, go for this one.
Once you enter youre just surrounded by candy every where. They have a variety of taffy from popcorn, watermelon, apple to root beer. But its $4.50 a pound. Insane huh? Well, it is located in Pier 39. You might as well go a few blocks down to a candy store called Chocate something (across from Boudin's Bakery) and get your taffy for half the price (and they have ice cream, a variety of chocolate and chocolate covered apples here.)
Anyways, I wouldn't really recommend coming here. Unless you are in a desperate situation where your cravings just cant wait and you have to have that chocolate bar that no one carries anymore.
Decent selection of candy but if you are seriously jonesin for a candy mainline who wants to fight tourists getting out there when you have other options.
CANDY!!! haha my friends and I were in SF for one of our birthday and went so crazy in here. there was no one in there so we were racing around the barrels of salt water taffy at full speed seeing who could find the coke bottles. Can't wait to go down again, but for now I'll stick to Powell's candy shop in Willow Glen.
They carry almost every piece of candy you can find ... a lot of people might like this place because it's kind of old school with the salt-water taffy (about every flavor of the stuff you can think of), candy you might remember if you grew up in the 80s, and all the popular candy of today. They also have an extensive PEZ selection as well. This place is literally wall-to-wall with candy, and this place is most definitely popular with anyone who has a sweet tooth. I'd rather go here than some foo-foo shi-shi candy store (not naming names) because when it comes to candy, I like keeping it real by sticking to what I know.
But seriously, anyone who features candy in the shape of pizza, hot dogs, french fries, and even a Mexican Dinner rules the world.

I find myself on Pier 39 quite often as being a tourist is sometimes part of my job.
I tell travelers where to go and what to see all day long. And most of them come into town already wanting to visit Pier 39. Don't hate me for sending them there! The guide books mention it as a not-to-be-missed attraction. I know. Crazy.
So instead of dreading going there with them, i see the positive side of it.
I'll have a great view of the bay.
I'll play skee-ball at the arcade.
I'll buy a bag of taffy at Candy Baron.
Yummm.
I always stop by the candy store.
They have so many different kinds of taffy it's like the candy castle.
I stroll throughout the store slowly, looking at all the delicious flavors.
I personally love anything caramel.
They also have sugar free taffy, for the health conscious peeps, but that's crazy talk.
The other thing I love is their old school sweets.
They have Buttons Candies, the Sugar Daddy one, the original French Taffy, the Bazooka, the Fun Dips... power to the 80s!
So I always leave with a big bag of candy.
And a mouth full of taffy.
Yummm.

I HEART this place....why cause they have chick o sticks.....one of my favs. They also have mary janes and so many varieties of salt water taffy. They also had zaps.....took me back to my youngin days. They basically have a lot of old school candy in barrels. Me likey.
I normally do not like taffy, let alone salt water taffy. The first time we walked by here I saw the barrels of colorful taffy and thought it would be interesting to go into another time. Well the next day was that time and boy was I glad I went in. They have every flavor you could think of from your fruits to those fruits as pies or wrapped in caramel to molasses and cinnamon rolls! Yes, cinnamon rolls just like you get at Cinnabon but in taffy form! So good! The apple pie and creamsicle is really good too. I ended up with a pound of taffy and my partner got almost a pound as well. 2 days later and it's almost all gone. I can't stop eating them!

Every time I go to Pier 39 I stop at Candy Baron and buy a bag of saltwater taffy. They have over 30 different flavors of saltwater taffy and it's located conveniently on the Pier, right around the corner from the sea lions.
After you buy your saltwater taffy, you can hope that eating it will distract you from the loads of tourists and the disgusting smells and sounds of the sea lions. Candy Baron is one of the few reasons I still venture to Pier 39 even though I feel as though I should be wearing a "I *heart* SF shirt," snapping away at Alcatraz or the golden gate bridge and munching clam chowder in a bread bowl.
The only problem is that the taffy is kind of expensive, but that's the price you pay for being at a tourist attraction. And be sure to hide the taffy in your purse or bag, or you can guarantee that it will be eaten by the time you get home!

The first time I went here a few years ago I really liked it. I bought some novelty candy mints in cool little tins. Most things are piled on top of wooden barrels.
I came here again recently with a friend who I was showing around town. Perty expensive. The selection seemed lacking to me. (But they did have a lot of great flavors of SALTWATER TAFFY and other classics-gummies, sweets&sours...)
I wish there were more unique, exciting candies that would make me feel like a "kid in a candy store." (The candy shop in the beginning of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.) They should re-create that look! Yeah, totally...Anyway, it's possible I just wasn't in a good mood at the time, ha.
It's still a neat shop though. Great location at Pier 39/Fisherman's Wharf.
